Marco Bernardi, a British producer with quite a flamboyant personality is no stranger to the Burek family. Having already released an excellent 2-part 12" series titled "Laffer EP" for Barba last year, it could've been expected that he'd appear on the mot

California based producer Damon Bell could not find a more suitable home for his new 12” than Croatian label Burek. It's his first one since "Blues For The Libyan” LP released in 2015. for Deepblak, and it sounds as if the time off was well spent. Two words that perfectly describe this record are "rich” and "colourful”, and the description is equally applicable to all three cuts. "Stand By Me” is a synthheavy piece built around the interplay between track's rougher sounds and big lush pads. On the flipside, "Life” is slightly faster and more direct, with a wonderful guitar part that circles around the main theme throughout the most of the track. Similarly mannered, but slightly more intense " TransAtlantic Journey? We Been Here!” is the last piece and features an infectious groove with lead synth piercing through layers of delicate arpeggios playing in the background. All in all, it feels good to have Damon in the team. We hope you'll enjoy this record.

Ilija Rudman is quite a unique character. A fact reinforced by listening to some of the records from his vast catalogue, taking a walk through his next level studio or simply talking to him. Preferably, all three at once, as it is often the case. Authenticity is the word that comes to mind when describing the work of this leading Croatian artist or while listening to the material we are proud to put out on 12th Burek release. The record features three cuts. “Higher Ground” is Rudman’s solo effort while the two on the flip are coproduced by Boyd H. Jarvis, an American producer credited to numerous 12” on classic labels such as Trax Records, King Street Sounds, Movin’ Records and Dance Tracks (to mention a selected few). Although releases made in a similar fashion tend to sound somewhat unfocused, the result here is exactly the opposite. What we have here is 20 minutes of some of the slickest house music you’ll find, sounding so coherent that dissecting it track by track seems pointless. This is a 12” that will feel equally at home in a club or blasting through the speakers of your convertible while driving on the California coast in the summer.

After nearly a year has passed by - and kitted out with heavy hitting drum timbres, hook laden nuances and a textured palette of unique effects - South African born Esa makes a welcome return to the Burek family fold with another EP that skirts the boundaries of the dance-floor and soaks up the sights and sounds of those on the peripheral edges. A family that's consisted of many strays and deviants being welcomed in, Esa's EP is another mellifluous fit for the Croatian based house label that prides itself on beats that drip with greasy flavour and a fine follow on from his killer 'Serenity In a Forbidden Place' EP for the label in July of 2013. EP opener 'Time Of Planck' is the first collaborative production between Esa and classically trained multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Bennett. Laying vocals atop deconstructed, radiating cosmic transmissions, Esa cautiously adds the reverberating oscillators to maximum effect over a washed out, hazy groove, while Bennett also provides tinkling key stabs. Paradox Jaz (Recover) plays further on the synth tapestries and relaxing organ overtones, following a traditional Detroit journey before gradually stepping up-tempo for a cantering, melody-led approach to the intricate details of a modern electronic jazz record. Flip over for B-side opener Placid Universe, a light and dainty continuation of the previous side's atmospheric, worldly undertones before clicking snares and bulbous, low-end bass lines and acid squelches force their way into earshot. Drama Queen - perhaps the most schizophrenically visualized out of the collection - draws the EP to a close in attention seeking fashion, juxtaposing and flitting between light xylophone riffs and seething, pulsing and hell raising bass stabs, offering a resonating close to Esa's latest 4 track pack.
