It has been over five years since Nick Höppner left his position as A&R and label manager of Ostgut Ton, the Berghain inhouse label, he had not only founded, but also steered through it's most creative and influential years. Touch From A Distance is his new label, this time 100% his own. For the label debut Höppner enlisted the extraordinary talents of Desert Sound Colony from London. His outstanding skills at sound design, composition and arrangement have now culminated in his Fast Life EP for Touch From A Distance. The four tracker presents DSC at his most focussed and versatile, constantly shapeshifting between the rich, bass heavy UK heritage and Continental-European traditions of dancefloor minimalism. Opener „Fast Life“ is as huge as it gets: an undercurrent of electro breaks and a giant bass line push the track forward while celestial melodies elegantly provide contrast and relief. Next up is „Somehow I Talk“, a minimal banger not only displaying Desert Sound Colony's tongue-in-cheek humour, but also his incredible inventiveness in the studio. Deceptively simple at first listen, the track reveals an abundance of smart arrangement ideas keeping you locked all the way. The way the vocals twist and bend here is just breathtaking. On the flip, „Finger Flies“ ramps up the tempo and the syncopation for a bass heavy chunk of fun loving beat science, before „Glixen“ closes the ep featuring Desert Sound Colony’s friend Baby Rollen who helps to steer the track's bouncing funk into deeper realms.

Well you know what they say, home is where the heart is. I must say it feels all nice and warm to be back on the label myself as Desert Sound Colony. I’ve put together a few more rippers for you to enjoy. I hope they serve you well in the club and spin a few people from one side of the dance floor to the other. Imagine everyone’s brains are attached to yoyos and you have control of them. You could metaphorically be walking the dog with their minds if you play these at the right time. Doesn’t that sound appealing?

For their 5th release the London label born of the clubnight of the same name make a b-line straight for the dancefloor. The title track of Desert Sound Colony's latest EP is equal parts anthemic vocals, stabbing guitar lines and a motorik backbone which combining for a hefty slice of post-punk inspired dancefloor churn. Two B-sides take the themes found in Lose My Rhythm and head down the rabbit hole to drown you with a flurry of breaks led rhythms on Suffocation and put you to rest with the pitch black basslines of The Blacksmith. On the remix front local hero Scott Fraser delivers an acid drenched expansion of the title track.

After the success of their first release, DSC – Far Reaching/Too Hard, Holding Hands is back with their sophomore outing and as before it is taking no prisoners.Inspired by a Nicolas Lutz set as he warmed up Fabric for Villalobos a couple years back, the Furnace has a break beat that will push the subs of any club to the limit. With every build and drop it increases in momentum until you are left with no choice but to throw down on the dance floor with unbridled passion. The Furnace may be all about the big beat but it is no one trick pony. The tune has a depth and weirdness to it that will certainly keep you coming back for more…The Sorcerer is a collaboration with good friend of DSC’s, Guava. It is made up largely of recorded percussion and vocals at DSC’s studio in South London, which gives it a very special swing on the dance floor. The track lulls you into a false sense of security for the first third before finally letting the big freakiness out of the box. This is one for any DJ that wants to leave clubbers going nuts and scratching their heads at the same time. Both tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. They want big sound systems and dark rooms.Close your eyes, hold hands and experience transcendental space flight…
