Release:2010 / US – Reissue
Genre:Electronic / Dance
The newly remastered RVIVR s/t (2010) is the Don Giovanni debut collaboration with RVIVR. Olympia, WA, USA's RVIVR has been relentlessly touring the planet for the better part of the past decade. They've played sweaty, inspired DIY shows across North & South America, Asia, Australia & Europe and have released eight records since 2009. They're known for their genre bending catchiness, earnest, irresistible dual vocals and their outspoken desire for inclusion and accessibility at their shows. Especially advocating for women, queer and trans access to the stage and show space. RVIVR have a sparse internet presence and have done all this without the use of agents or managers, in collaboration with a network of underground punk rock scenes from around the world. Founded in 2008 by Mattie Jo Canino (guitar/voice), Erica Freas (guitar/voice) and Kevin Rainsberry (drums), RVIVR loves to play punk rock and is pretty good at it. "A band bent on complicating the meaning of pop-punk." - NPR "RVIVR is one of the best pop-punk bands of the decade. It's hard to recommend a band more strongly." - Maximum RockNRoll "Olympia, Washington's RVIVR is reputed for its catchy, thrashy, and triumphant take on socially conscious pop punk." - She Shreds

Release:2016 / US – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
Freas has spent much of the last decade touring and performing as a singer and guitarist in the Olympia, Washington-based punk band, RVIVR. On Patient Ones, Freas is a solo artist, operating at a lower volume with an acoustic guitar and minimal accompaniment from cellist Jen Grady. The music is pared down and raw, revealing a skillful guitarist unafraid to tread into dark waters with her lyrics. If you have followed Freas' work, you will recognize sparse arrangements of songs which have previously appeared in anthemic form in RVIVR ("Goodbyes") and her dream-inspired collaborative project, SOMNIA ("Silver"). Possessing dynamic and lyrical variations, her songwriting is presented from a different angle, creating a compliment to the full-band versions. In 2007, Freas founded Rumbletowne Records, which has, up to this point, released all of her music, whether solo, as a member of RVIVR, or in SOMNIA. She's been an outspoken advocate on the mic and in interviews for the visibility of women, queer, trans and otherwise underrepresented identities in music, production, and performance.Freas continues to adapt this conversation through touring punk and underground music scenes around the world, having played successful shows on five out of seven continents with more tours stretching into the indefinite future.
Outer Spaces - A Shedding Snake
Outer Spaces
A Shedding Snake
LP | 2016 | US | Original (Don Giovanni)
15,99 €*
Release:2016 / US – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
The genesis of A Shedding Snake can be traced back to the solo ventures of Cara Beth Satalino in the mid to late 2000S while she attended SUNY Purchase. Satalino's somber, solitary songwriter aesthetic was later informed by her tenure playing in the Athens, GA based rough-around-the-edges power trio Witches until they disbanded in 2012. Following the break up, Satalino's focus was directed back toward her solo material, and what would become Outer Spaces. Relocating to the artistically fertile city of Baltimore, Satalino formed a solid lineup for the group, including fellow Purchase College alums Chester Gwazda —who had previously produced Satalino's solo recordings, as well as albums by Future Islands, Cloud Nothings and Dan Deacon. The band had the opportunity to participate in the Matador Records Singles Going Home Alone 7" series, and released the Garbage Beach EP via Salinas Records in 2014. A Shedding Snake is Outer Space's debut full-length effort. The album is one of transition for Satalino. Some of the material was composed back when she lived in Athens and, stylistically, it shows: there's some definite Murmur-era Michael Stipe and Peter Buck influence in aesthetic and songwriting. But Satalino bridges the gap from what's in her rear-view to her present. "Moving to a new place is a chance for a clean slate in a way, and I think that the songs on this record reflect that feeling," she says. "It's a record about moving on, moving past, moving forward, and moving toward."

Predatory Headlights was completed over the course of three years with the assistance of engineer and co-producer, Justin Perkins. Pitsch has often cited Perkins' involvement in early 2000's groups Yesterday's Kids and The Obsoletes as a heavy influence. Perkins also worked with Tenement on their 2011 offering, Napalm Dream, as well as acclaimed records by the likes of The Goodnight Loving, The Sugar Stems, and The Mystery Girls. The bulk of Predatory Headlights was written and recorded at BFG in Appleton, Wisconsin - Tenement's home and personal studio. The house was symbolically demolished within days of finishing the record, and in a fitting display of finality, three years of sweat and nightmares and beauty and dissonance returned to the soil and found its way back into the water and woods with only this document to prove it ever even existed at all. Thanks to Don Giovanni Records, you hold the very document in your hands - Tenement's newest window into the nature of the human being and the complexity of life: Predatory Headlights.

Known as much for her rousing stage presence as she is for her prowess as a beatmaker and lyricist, Sammus has spent the past several years cultivating a strong following of activists, hip hop heads, punks, and self-proclaimed nerds and geeks, among others. Now ready to make her Don Giovanni debut, she is poised to cement herself as an artist who consistently thinks outside boxes and dances across lines (and does other neat things with geometrical figures). Armed with guest appearances from rap legends like Jean Grae, Homeboy Sandman, and Open Mike Eagle as well as her Don Giovanni labelmate Izzy True and Brooklyn up-and-comer Latasha Alcindor, the project aims to establish Sammus as one of the great MCs, beat makers, and thinkers of this politically charged movement.

Release:2016 / US – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
Fake Limbs are a four piece rock band from the west side of Chicago, Illinois. Since 2011 the band has been bro-trolling various parts of North America with their brand of "social justice street rock." Muscular riffs, a dense and reliable rhythm section, actual guitar solos, and a damaged holler into the void of present day monstrosities, in a vain and feeble attempt to right the wrongs that society has levied against the world. For their third album, Matronly, Fake Limbs returned to Electrical Audio with the crew that set the table their previous album, The Power Of Patrician Upbringing. What you have here is a gradual progression from the bands previous work--trip wires of bombastic rhythms, blown out echoey shouts of love and the occasional misgivings, and blinding, but precise guitar destruction. It's time to get up, it's time to love again, it's time for Fake Limbs.

Genre:Rock / Indie
Big Eyes, the brainchild of Kait Eldridge, is a band that has spent its career successfully defying classification. They're a punk band with pop sensibilities; they're a power pop group with a hard rock edge. Big Eyes are different things to different people, and yet have always felt ultimately content cemented "in-between" the scenes. Stake My Claim, the band's third full length, was recorded throughout the fall and winter of 2,315. It opens with their heaviest song to date, the title track, which sets a tone of Kait at a crossroad: "'Cause nothing stays the same / stake my claim." Her lyrics are centered around dissatisfaction and a need for change. Throughout the entirety of Big Eyes' discography, there is an undercurrent of sadness and frustration, but within Stake My Claim, Kait has found a sense of acceptance.

"Nope" is Izzy True's first full length release. In 2012, Isabel dropped out of school and moved home to deal with mental illness. The record was born out of that experience, and the desire for a cathartic and joyful way to combat those issues. Isabel says of the direction of the album "I've always played weepy, sad sack stuff. I mean I still do, but I consciously started to write songs that would be fun to see live, that would make me feel like a powerful guitar guy. I felt terrible, and playing sad songs all the time didn't help. I was trying to manifest something else." The end result is a rock and roll album which makes space for misery. NOPE is about magic, loneliness, and learning to like yourself. "This band has been incredibly healing for me," says Isabel. "My bandmates are my best friends...I hope that some of that love comes through on the album."

Thirty years ago, long before there was such a thing as Gilman Street, Green Day, or the East Bay pop punk explosion, three guys got together in an off-the-grid hippie wilderness known as Spy Rock, at the heart of Northern California’s legendary Emerald Triangle. They hooked their amps up to their solar panels, made up a couple songs about living on the backside of nowhere, and The Lookouts were born. It would be the first time 12-year-old Tre Cool ever laid hands on a drumstick or a set of drums, but over the following five and a half years he honed the skills that he would put to use in his second band, Green Day, headlining amphitheaters and stadiums, winning Grammy Awards, and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his second band. Guitarist and singer Larry Livermore would go on to co-found Lookout Records, the indie label that introduced Green Day, and many other bands, to the world. Together with bassist (and future forest ranger) Kain Kong, and with guest appearances by Operation Ivy and Rancid’s Tim Armstrong and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, The Lookouts produced two albums, two EPs, and several compilation tracks, the best of which are featured on this double LP. Also included is a track from The Lookouts’ very first demo tape, recorded in 1985, which features Tre singing backups in his as yet unbroken three-and-a-half-octave soprano.

On 77, Nude Beach occupy a unique rock ‘n’ roll plane of existence that finds harmony between radio-friendly giants like Tom Petty and reclusive underground kooks like Bill Fox. As a trio of musicians, they are loose without lapsing into sloppiness, earnest sans cheese, knowledgeable minus pretension. Over the course of a set as the band whips from one song to the next, they will echo the tones and moods of Springsteen, The Only Ones, The Flamin’ Groovies, The Replacements, and Badfinger, as well as anyone who released a record on Sire between ’77 and ’81. But when three people have been playing together in a band for as long as Nude Beach has, they begin to substitute influence for telepathy. Betz’s wailing Telecaster never collides with Naideau’s thrilling drum fills or Shelton’s nimble bass lines; call their brand of rock ‘n’ roll whatever you like, but it’s never short of eloquent, ingeniously performed and classically constructed.

When Joe Steinhardt started Don Giovanni Records, his goal was to foster a greater sense of awareness of bands from New Brunswick, to get their records heard and distributed. Beyond that, another original goal was to be able to press the first full length by STORMSHADOW, a short-lived New Brunswick punk band who provide a microcosmic look into much of what's so great about the New Brunswick, NJ punk scene. Coinciding with the first night of Don Giovanni's 10th anniversary showcases on Feb. 9th, the label is finally issuing the album-previously available exclusively via a limited run of CDRs, which they made to sell at their last show. The album's 16 tracks are mostly under 2 minutes each, all tight hardcore punk with scream-along meldodies, dissonant riffs, and lyrics that mix the political with the purposefully personal. The record opens with "Switched On," a quick intro to the record's tendency to make unexpected turns from harsh hardcore screams to melodic pop-punk lines. "Watson Break" recalls the most vital aspects of sing-song anti-authoritarian folk-punk, while "Stainless Stealing & the Wage Gap" is an aggressive and honest discussion of economic injustice that could have soundtracked the Occupy movement marches of fall 2011, asking "Profit over people, what is life's value?," then reminding that "the real war is for the mind" and concluding: "Life shouldn't be so cheap / never ever accept defeat." Like the other tracks presented here, though written over ten years ago, its energy feels just as pressing in 2012. Set On Destroy is angry and anthemic throughout, often feeling like a distillation of what's always so empowering about this breed of explosive protest-punk.
