Jerome Meyer AKA Von D is a master craftsman, well-known for releasing dubstep and bass music since 2009. On an increasingly prolific trajectory since last year, recent 12”s on Infernal Sounds, Trojan Audio and Scotch Bonnet have signaled his renewed focus on dubwise productions. We are proud to say that Von D’s Khaliphonic debut sees him fully committing to reggae and dub - in his words, “going back to my musical roots.”“Politricks” is a masterwork, cut from the same living rock as the classic Cuss Cuss riddim, a simply huge bass and drum workout that is truly one for the ages. Politricks is an anthem for now, a call to avoid the dead-end of politics-as-usual and a warning to beware of the lies politicians tell to keep themselves in power - full of promises but changing nothing. Von D says that “working with Don Cotti was very natural,” and their easy relationship is audible - the tune fits the vocal like a glove, and Cotti’s instantly-recognizable singjay style gives even more gravitas to an already heavy track. The dub version spools out the saturated echoes even further, and opens up spectral chambers of reverb that shimmer and glow.“Ygrec” is an equally massive tune, just as compelling if more meditative and mysterious, coming in both one drop and power-steppers mixes for maximum versatility and vibes. Both tunes and their versions feature an incredibly robust, warm, human sound - one that simply can’t come from machines alone - live drums, bass, and kete drum among other instruments maintain the tradition of live musicians in dub - to say nothing of expert desk-based mixing and deployment of live analog effects the way the elders intended. Both tunes dial in at 140 making them perfect for roots and dubstep selectors alike. Von D got his start as a drummer and engineer outside Paris, in the heady days of original jungle. Early releases on Disfigured Dubz, Hench, Boka, Black Acre and the seminal V Recordings, as well as his reggae-oriented Liquid Wicked project, cemented his reputation. Don Cotti is a prolific producer, DJ and MC with releases stretching back to 2006 on labels as varied as Bass Face, Studio Rockers, and Soul Jazz.Mastered by Lewis at Star Delta.Art & design by Polygon Press.12” vinyl only, limited to 800 copies for the world. Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
The visionary musician and record producer Augustus Pablo made some of the most unique and individual recordings in the history of reggae. As with his friend and mentor, Jackie Mittoo, the man born Horace Swaby was of mixed Indian and African heritage, and although his middleclass background might have pointed him in a very different direction, the lure of Jamaica’s sound system culture captured him at a young age, particularly after debilitating health problems saw him drop out of school. He began recording as a session keyboardist as the 60s gave way to the 70s, but everything changed when a school-friend introduced him to the melodica, a small plastic keyboard operated by a mouthpiece, which he used on seminal recordings for producer Herman Chin-Loy, credited to Augustus Pablo on release. During the early 1970s, Pablo crafted melodica instrumentals for all of the leading reggae producers, scoring ‘best instrumental’ for ‘Java’ in 1973, and launching the Rockers label to showcase self-produced work at the same time. This multifaceted compilation, first issued on Bunny Lee’s Attack label in 2005, compiles memorable melodica interpretations of some of Lee’s greatest productions, recorded over dub cuts of immortal numbers such as Cornell Campbell’s ‘Queen of the Minstrel’ and John Holt’s ‘My Desire.’

LP | 1975 | EU | Reissue (Radiation Roots)

Release:1975 / EU – Reissue
Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
Tenor saxophonist Tommy McCook is rightly considered a giant of Jamaican music. Chosen by Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd to be leader of the Skatalites in the early 1960s, he went on to become the chief exponent of rock steady as leader of the Supersonics house band at Treasure Isle. McCook remained a key session player throughout the reggae era, and during the roots reggae heyday of the mid-1970s, his expressive melodies found particularly strong outlet, especially on the music he created for grassroots producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee as a member of the Aggrovators, the studio outfit Lee hand-picked from the cream of Jamaica’s musical crop. When enhanced by the adventurous mixing experiments of King Tubby, the engineer that turned dub into an art form, instrumental Aggrovators music became positively ethereal, yielding an exceptional listening experience. On King Tubby Meets The Aggrovators At Dub Station, Tommy McCook blows mean sax and flute over dubs of outstanding tracks by Johnny Clarke, Cornell Campbell, Linval Thompson, Delroy Wilson, and others greats. First issued on Third World in 1976, this vinyl reissue comes complete with four thematic bonus tracks, and the whole disc makes for essential listening.

Electro-dub pioneers Dreadzone were formed from the ashes of Big Audio Dynamite and over their two decade plus career have been championed by the late John Peel, signed to the legendary Creation Records and Virgin before finally securing their independence by founding their own Dubwiser record label. 'Dread Times'is their 8th studio album from the band and the 3rd release on their own label. Their old skool dread sound comes bubbling to the surface on the album and it digs deeper into their dub and reggae influences whilst still managing to keep the beats fresh and the textures electronic. Conscious lyrics, social ills, matters of the heart and mind merge with 21st century dubwise flavour. Alongside core members Greg Dread, who produced this 12 track album, Leo Williams, Chris Compton, Earl 16 and Spee, Dread Times introduces younger blood into the mix. Newest member Bazil bringing an edge to the sonic process and Greg' son Marlon expanding the musical range further. Don Letts also returns with lyrical contributions, as does Lena Cullen on vocals for one track, with 90s ragga duo Louchie Lou and Michie One guesting on another. Recorded again at Mick Jones'Bunker Studio, arranged at Dread Central and mixed by fellow founder Tim Bran, this is classic West London Zone with an updated edge. Dread music for an unpredictable world, these are Dread Times.

The dub album any discerning House music lovers will enjoy! A playful mixture of modern beats with deep roots Reggae influences, all heavily processed in an old-fashioned manner with a political and social messages expressed through.Riddim Research Lab is a project from two UK based music outsiders, going under the names of Gordon Brown Jr and DJ Neeet. Lay-Far discovered their music by sheer chance, stumbling upon one of the members (DJ Neeet) in the notorious Reckless Records in London's Soho when browsing through the 'Dub' section of the shop. A brief discussion around the reissue of Mikey Dread's album ensued, revealing the stranger's knowledge of roots Reggae and Dub. Before giving recommendations on several classic albums and saying goodbye, the man handed over a CDR with what was described as "some dub-influenced beats I'm working on with my friend. If you like King Tubby and house - you may enjoy it."Lay-Far was excited by this unexpected gift but as it usually happens with globetrotting DJs he easily forgot it in the back pocket of his record bag. It was not until a year later when he discovered the long-presented artefact. What he finally heard was an exciting mixture of modern beats with deep roots reggae influences, all heavily processed in an old-fashioned manner with an obvious political and social message expressed through the music.Lay-Far directly got in touch with the duo via the email that was neatly carved into the CDR and motivated them to come out of the shadows, advising several labels they should try and sign their music to, one of which happened to be G.A.M.M. The result is now finally ready to be enjoyed by everyone, not just Lay-Far!

Unreleased tracks and version excursions 1981 – 1986.Inspired by Eno’s “vision of a psychedelic Africa”, English dub producer Adrian Sherwood and master Jamaican percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah collaborated on a series of studio experiments under the African Head Charge moniker, resulting in groundbreaking albums such as Environmental Studies and Off The Beaten Track. The otherworldly sounds they conjure up have touchstones in Count Ossie’s mystic revelations, Can’s ethnological forgery series and the post-punk underground, but ultimately inhabit a genre of their own creation. These radically different versions of early AHC classics and been lovingly restored and sequenced from the original master tapes by On-U archivist Patrick Dokter. Tom Van Zeytveld AKA Phuture-T is well known to followers of hard-edged dubwise jungle from his many stellar releases on labels including Alphacut, 45Seven, and Eastern Promise Audio. In a landscape of similar-sounding steppers, Zeytvelt reveals his Emperor T alias on his first outing for ZamZam, bringing a welcome experimental sensibility to the worldwide steppers arena, while keeping sound system priorities and dancefloor imperatives firmly in view. "Macka Step Dub" is a pounding 128 bpm killer that opens with congas, skanks, and a minimal guitar lick, but quickly ramps up the energy with a pounding kick, sick sine wave bass, clattering percussion and sirens, building the tension to a massive breakdown. When the smoke clears, magisterial horns and insistent skanks lead the way as the riddim rebuilds, the tape echo spools out, and the dance forwards on."Mek It Run Dub" is cut from the same sonic cloth but faster, and tweaking the template with a more organic bass sound, flanged skanks, and stark shocks from the spring reverb. With militant horns echoing from deep down the Well over a pummeling kick and bass attack, this one is a serious threat to a soundboy. Both tunes were mixed and dubbed out at Phuture-Studios in Amsterdam, mastered and cut by the one Lewis at Star Delta Mastering in Devon.

Brooklyn’s Dub-Stuy announces a new release series inspired by the tradition of Jamaican dancehall riddims and their enduring popularity. Taking a cue from Greensleeves’ rhythm album series, Dub-Stuy’s riddim series reimagines classic dancehall anthems with a bass music twist and a worldwide line-up of vocalists. The first in this new series is an update to King Jammy’s 1986 Punanny riddim by Brooklyn-based DJ Madd, who adds a double-time swing, pulsing 808 kicks and some serious sub bass pressure to the original while keeping the unforgettable hook intact. Taking turns to vocal the riddim is a cast of four MCs: Turbulence, Kingston’s rudeboy-turned-rasta whose breakout single Notorious still rings loud today; Mikey General, the British-born singer whose beautiful tenor is a fixture of conscious reggae music; Miss Red, the young Israeli female MC taking the European scene by storm; and Kurry Stain, an upcoming lyricist from Kingston who has been working with JA Productions. Each MC brings their own distinct style to the track, giving us four versions of a timeless classic.Punanny 2016 is released as a 2x7” pack - perfect for the vinyl fans and collectors - and in digital formats with colourful artwork that celebrates the legacy of this classic. A summer anthem ready to burn up the dance from Kingston to Tokyo!

We’re so pleased to finally be able to offer up a hard and timely digi stepper from Reggae Roast’s Adam Prescott alongside the unbeatable Macka B.Always insightful, clever, and serious-as-your-life, Macka B delivers a lyric tailor-made for these treacherous times, a deeply insightful essay on the many ways fear is deployed as a Babylonian weapon to keep us passive, obedient, distracted, confused, and compliant. From Brexit to Trump, the message is both universal and very local.Relicking a classic Horace Andy tune (we’ll let you figure out which), a twinkling melody leads the way alongside militant snares and a darkly addictive bassline for a riddim grounded firmly in the 90s UK dub tradition. "Fear Dub" cracks open vaults of dubspace with Macka B’s voice delaying into pure signal, and the bass heaving from reverbed depths. Percussion multiplies through the stereo field while skanks, synth, and tones cut through the darkness like thermal images in a dark night. Adam Prescott has releases on labels including his own Reggae Roast, Liondub, Grand Ancestor and Trigram. Macka B is a veteran with no less than 100 releases on many of the greatest reggae labels of all time, including Black Scorpio, XTerminator, Fashion, Penthouse, and an especially long and amazing run of releases on Mad Professor’s Ariwa label.Mastered by Lewis at Star Delta.

We are well-pleased to present the return of Tayo, veteran UK producer and selector absent from releasing music for a few years, now “coming in strong, strong…” as the champion Earl 16 sings on a sweet paean to roots music itself.Flanged guitar skanks, a classic Cry Tuff horns chop, and melodica sweet-like-honey set the tone and vibe, before the full riddim drops all at once - a deeply melodic bassline, binghi drum, and a pounding kick, forging a steppers guaranteed to move dancers and get the most out of any system big or small.Tayo started the Cool & Deadly club night at Fabric in the earliest days of what would be known as dubstep, booking Skream, Mala, Youngster, Iration Steppas and his good friend Rob Smith. Tayo’s own catalog stretches back to 2000 when he was crucial in the development of dubwise garage/breaks. His works include a seminal Fabriclive mix, and classic tunes alongside sparring partner Acid Rockers such as "Wicked Dub," “Bloodline,” and later “Vampayaa" on Scrub A Dub back in 2010.Originally written in a lighthouse in New Zealand, the riddim became a collaboration with Acid Rockers that we’ve been playing on dubplate for some time. Linking in the studio with old touring partner Earl 16 produced the lyric, completing a wicked return to form. Earl 16 should need no introduction, going hard as a roots singer since his debut album in 1981 for Mikey Dread. Even a casual look and listen at his catalog will reveal an artist of unique voice, integrity, longevity and talent.Tayo wishes to big up ZamZam "for contacting me and making me feel special again.” We wish to thank him for gracing us with this timeless single, his first in six years! “Play the music Mr. DJ…"Limited to 600 copies for the world. This is the first time reissue of this rare and obscure Germain produced dub LP from 1983. This LP was long a source of confusion for collectors. Only ever released in small quantity on the Germain label with no titles or credits, this LP came in either a generic disco jacket or in the jacket for the totally unrelated and (then) aborted Jah Life in Dub LP. The 8 tracks on this LP include some prime Germain roots rhythms of the day, including a very sound system/dubplate style choice of 3 different cuts of the “Dirty Harry” rhythm! We're happy to make this excellent LP now available to all, in a great looking hand silkscreened disco jacket, adorned with its fitting new title of Pre-Release Dub!

“When will all this stupidness end? And live in togetherness?” pleads the mighty Big Youth. “Stop killing the innocent ones.” We are proud to present this incredibly timely tune from the legend Twilight Circus, just the musical medicine the world needs in these days of division and strife."Why Can’t We Be Friends" is a rockstone riddim with a driving heartbeat pulse and deep atmosphere reminiscent of Rhythm & Sound’s classic Burial Mix releases. Fully organic in its sonics and construction, it nevertheless manages to recall the golden age of dub techno and late-night warehouse sessions. The dub version dives even deeper, bringing the hi-hats into crystal focus, letting the toms and rimshots rock, the skanks dub and invert, with occasional test-tones bubbling up as the riddim drives forward, ever forward… Twilight Circus is the dub & reggae project of multi-instrumentalist Ryan Moore, former bassist and drummer of the Legendary Pink Dots. Originally focused completely on instrumental dub albums and singles, Twilight Circus moved increasingly into working with voices - in addition to Big Youth, Moore has worked with a roll call of seminal roots vocalists including Michael Rose, Ranking Joe, Cornell Campbell, Fred Locks and Luciano. The Twilight Circus discography is truly massive, spanning dozens of LPs and singles, and remixes galore. This new single is a crucial addition to an already stellar career in sound system music.Moore recalls the extraordinary events around the session with Big Youth:“...the vocals with Big Youth we did at Steven Stanley Studio in Kingston JA, during sessions which later got derailed due to the arrival of hurricane Dennis in 2005! I will never forget talking with Bongo Herman in the studio parking lot & the wind went still, then started from the opposite direction - that was the point the storm announced itself. The eye miraculously veered off at the last moment so JA was spared destruction, but it was a crazy time as people realized what was on the way & started boarding up, panic-buying supplies... I too got provisions, water, candles etc to survive on my own in the hotel... as it turned out torrential rains & floods hit, but no devastating winds…"

Jah Wobble is one of the great English originals. Thirty years ago, his rumbling bass-playing defined the sound of Public Image Limited, and since then he has used his love for dub reggae to transform anything from avant-garde jazz-rock to English folk songs. After being influenced by his wife, Zi Lan Liao, an exponent of the guzheng (Chinese zither), he turned his attention to far eastern styles, with startling results. This album is a brave experiment in east-west fusion; yet it's also a typical Wobble album, thanks to that distinctive bass work and echoing dub effects, and the refreshingly rough-and-ready production. The album represents a cross-cultural collaboration between Wobble and a 22-piece outfit consisting of Mao and Tibetan ethnic musicians and dancers, Sichuan opera mask changers, and an Anglo-Chinese dub band.

Outstanding and miraculous, this record is an international effort, resulting in a great combination, relevant for both bagging it or playing out on a soundsystem. The original music is by one of Russia’s most prolific and gifted reggae musicians - Rebelsteppa. Melodic instrumental music, a swing-stepper with a saxophone.“None Shall Escape the Judgement”, vocals by Stikki Tantafari from Jamaica is on the A side of the record. This song is rough and tough, dynamic and persistent. Stikki Tantafari has previously released music with Paul Lush on Nucleus Roots Records. On the B side "Give Unto Jah” by Sista Sherin, the German singer. Compared to the record’s first side, this one is smoother, the voice of this young lady is glorious and captivating - positive vibrations. Both sides feature Rebelsteppa’s dub-mixes - His style is always a mixture of classical energy combined with peculiar intelligence of sound given by restrained echoes, created for the soundsystem.

Throughout the record, the Ragga Twins recall and explore a 30-year-long journey, where they uncover prescient lyrics and stories of their youth. Wrongtom provides the beats and riddims as a perfect setting for this celebration of the dancehall and reggae scene. The vinyl release comes as a 12”+7” package, all housed in full colour sleeve. Album download card also includes upfront ‘In Dub’ version of the album, these dub versions will only be available on the vinyl download card for the moment, until officially being released later in the year.

There are few producers in the world of underground bass and dubwise music working today with the breadth, depth, and genre-busting powers of Ognjen Zecevic, the man called Egoless. From post-everything blasts of wonky crunch & bass, to the most sparkling, orthodox reggae, his mastery of analog and digital production, and his free-roaming imagination and intuition make every Egoless plate a special, surprising, and rewarding experience. We’ve been holding this tune for some time… we kept it back as we knew right away it was fully deserving of the #50 spot in our catalog, a release we’ve been steadily working towards for a full 5 years. It exemplifies what we have tried to build with ZamZam - a body of forward thinking heart and soul music, message music, physical music, sound system music. For "Non-Immigrant Song” the Croatian Gorgon linked with rising sing-jay star Tenor Youthman (virtually unknown outside of his native Russia when the tune was recorded). Egoless says "It was one of those moments when I received a message and some tunes from a guy in Russia, expecting the worst English ever... Oh how I was wrong, this guy blew me away with the natural organic quality of his voice and we did this tune shortly afterward.”The lyric was extremely relevant when we first heard it, but we could not have imagined how relevance would turn to urgency with the rise of anti-immigrant extremism, Brexit, Trumpism and full-blown fascist infections spreading in so many parts of the world. A plea to all those who lose touch with our humanity when we treat anyone as ‘other’ - native-born as immigrants, immigrants as refugees, refugees as less than human. As for the music… an effortlessly swinging, massive one drop riddim in classic formation. Buttery bass and thick kick hitting hard in unison. Sparse and spare. Strictly analog effects and flawless instrumentation. We asked Egoless for a truly OUT dub version to back the vocal, and he obviously didn’t disappoint - absolute desk & tape madness in the tradition of the most dub-me-crazy Ariwa or Black Ark meltdowns. We couldn’t be more thrilled with this record and this milestone arrived at through so much work and so much support from our worldwide community.

A selected few of the cuts involve exciting collaborations that are not to be missed. Similar to King Yoof’s recent album endeavour called ‘Homage To The King’, Radikal Guru exerts his speciality in various tempo ranges with the ‘Dub Mentalist’ LP. The result is just as exciting as his existing back catalogue; all mastered to meet the requirements of the true Moonshine vibration. The polish producer once again shows appreciation to both the dancefloor fans and the more meditating listeners. Fusing his compelling sound in dub, reggae and dubstep with timeless, old school samples makes every release a reminiscing journey. The amount of dread and energy will most definitely spark a riot across the globe.Radikal Guru executes his mix-up of dub by incorporating a dose of happiness and psychedelics. The effects take over the mixes in wild fashion; delays spin off the tasty spring reverberation tails, delivering a comfortable setting. Radikal’s horns, including the trumpet, saxophone and trombone joined the Radikal Guru’s live melodica to complement each other in rhythm and sound. The collaborations featuring Moonshine familiars Jay Spaker, Echo Ranks, Solo Banton, Violinbwoy and Earl 16 bless the righteous sound waves, as the bassweight, immersive vocals and tight arrangements speak for themselves. Whether it is the bass weight, vocal parts or simply the rhythms, you know exactly when Radikal Guru’s music is being played on a true sound system. The contribution of the polish dub genius, to the healing of the nations and to global dub culture trembles, as he immediately reveals why his ‘Dub Mentalist’ LP forms an important chapter in our history of Moonshine Recordings material.

Mystica Tribe is the musical alias of Tokyo-based producer, Taka Noda. Drawing on a wide range of influences from dub, soul, bass music, rhythm and blues Mystica Tribe has quickly been developing a very distinctive sound that exists in a weird, freaked out zone between dub and techno. Noda is especially interested in deep, psychedelic music, and this is reflected in his productions, which are equally suited for late night listening sessions or bent, broken in dancefloors. His first track, Meditation Stick, was released in 2011 on Dutch label SD Records, backed by two remixes from label owners Syncom Data. This was followed by two more EPs on SD Records in 2013: Stars are Mine and Flowers. Artists like Gilles Peterson and 2562 have supported these well-received releases, and his track. His Temple recently appeared on Pangaea's Fabric Live 73 mix CD. In 2014, Noda is launching his own label, Mystica Tribe Records, through which he plans to continue developing his uniquely psychedelic take on dub and techno. His recent EP, "Lizard", was released on his label in 2014. "Jade Eye EP" was released on his label in 2016.

We are extremely happy to forward the first vinyl release from Cheyne Taylor Bush AKA Tetrad, a member of LA’s B-Side collective. From the moment we heard these tunes we knew we wanted to get behind them, and behind Tetrad. It is extremely rare for us to hear music from a young, as-yet unsigned producer that immediately strikes us as this fresh, original, mature, and self-aware.“Awaken Dub” is a 140 power stepper driven by a shimmering melodica figure, delicate guitar plucks, insistent photon torpedo snares and pure 4/4 bass and kick forward motion. “Awaken Dub” was inspired by Tetrad’s “return to dub-inspired music” after an absence, and the personal awakenings this return brought him.“Turn 1” is among the best ‘proper’ dubstep plates we’ve heard in ages, that perfect combination of eyes-down deep hypnosis for the mind and massive body-blow to the corporeal form. All about movement, “Turn 1” is among a set of tunes that got their start on the bus and train, inspired by the “bustling motion and feel” of urban transport. From the rocking, lurching drums to the deceptively simple single-note bassline that won’t let go, sweeping you away like a wobbling lava flow, to the reverb-soaked voice that is “Turn 1"s calling card, this one will focus the dancefloor as few tunes can do. Mastered and cut by the one Lewis at Star Delta Mastering in Devon.
