Tasha - Alone At Last
Tasha
Alone At Last
LP | 2018 | US | Original (Father/Daughter)
19,99 €*
Release:2018 / US – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
On her debut album Alone at Last, Tasha celebrates the radical political act of being exquisitely gentle with yourself. For years, the Chicago songwriter has dreamed hard of a better worldshe's worked with the local racial justice organization Black Youth Project 100 and has been on the front lines at protests around the city. But as she returned to the guitar, an instrument her mother first taught her to play when she was 15 years old, she began exploring the ways music can be a powerful force for healing. Across Alone at Last, Tasha sings mantras of hope and restoration over lush guitar lines inspired by the stylings of Nai Palm and Lianne La Havasboth artists who, like Tasha, opt for a sweetness in their playing over the masculinized bravado that often accompanies the electric guitar. Alone at Last is a powerful talisman in a demanding world, and a reminder that kindness toward the self can help unlock the way to a world a little more livable than this one.

Over the past decade, many of the best songwriters have come to the fore without explicitly trying to. Theyve written and recorded records in their homes, posted them on the internet, and all but avoided self-promotion. Yet, somehow, those songs have caught on. And in the case of Attic Abasements Mike Rheinheimer, even as his bands prole has been raised, he still follows that approach, creating work that speaks entirely for itself. Having been the driving force of Attic Abasement for over a decade now, Rheinheimer, a Rochester, New York native has amassed a back catalog of lo- albums and EPs. Each one was distributed via Bandcamp and short-run CD-Rs, and it was through those means that Attic Abasements name spread. In 2016, the band would release Dream News with Father/Daughter Records, giving Attic Abasement a home for the bands music without trying to change the ethos Rheinheimer had developed. And now, on April 6, 2018, Father/Daughter is proud to reissue Attic Abasements cult classic sophomore album, Dancing Is Depressing, on vinyl for the rst and only time. Not only that, Dancing Is Depressing (Expanded Edition) will feature a pair of songs that originally appeared on local Rochester compilation albums. Written and recorded by himself in 2009, the songs contained on Dancing Is Depressing are both plainspoken and complex, allowing Rheinheimer to not only reect on his own personal experiences, but encourage intimate reection within his listeners. Theres a reason why Dancing Is Depressing would routinely see people cite the likes of Stephen Malkmus, Bill Callahan, and David Berman when discussing the record, but even with those inuences present, what Rheinheimer created was singular.

The album is available digitally, on CD, and Milky Clear 12 Vinyl. The band will be touring along the East Coast in November and are eyeing SXSW in March 2018. Fits is undeniably shaped by band members experiences playing Brooklyn DIY spaces such as Shea Stadium and Silent Barn. (For one, Cummins first decided to take the Fits project seriously after playing the demos through a giant traveling Swedish log parked in the Silent Barn yard.) For another, songs are quick, loud, and rarely content with sticking to any one style, often holding for meditative intervals before launching into full-throttle caffeinated pop.

Uncontrollable Salvation
LP | 2017 | US | Original (Father/Daughter)
19,99 €*
Release:2017 / US – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
Pardoner is a San Francisco-based rock band and Uncontrollable Salvation is their debut album. The 45-minute LP pulls no punches, doubling down on the driving intensity of their earlier work and paying homage to heroes and contemporary experimenters alike (one could make a Sonic Youth and a Dinosaur Jr. comparison and both would be apt). However, there's a simultaneous disaffection and technical prowess that makes the music distinctly 'Pardoner,' placing them at the curious intersection of slacker-rock and punk, a space where songs are as fun as they are angst-ridden. The albums uncompromising 7-½ minute closing track somehow manages to juxtapose violent guitar riffs with an expansive rock opera outro before abruptly concluding. Uncontrollable Salvation brims with energy, ideas, and the lurking anxiety of change, but the tension is no match for the right combination of distortion and cathartic drums.

LP | 2017 | US | Original (Father/Daughter)
18,99 €*
Release:2017 / US – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
Austin-based quartet Alex Napping draws from the deeply personal and the sonically groovy to create storytelling with a beat. Founded in 2013, the group includes lead singer and guitarist Alex Cohen, guitarist Adrian Sebastian Haynes, bassist Tomas Garciaolano, and drummer Andrew Stevens. In 2014, the band released their debut album, This Is Not A Bedroom, on Punctum Records. With a guitar-focused sound, this first release reflects nostalgia for early romance and self-discovery, drawing from collective conversations about youth and its limitations. As an expansion of the themes found in Bedroom, Alex Napping released Trembles Part I & II in 2016, a pair of expressive singles hinging on a short story composed by Cohen. "Trembles" caught the ear of both NPR and BBC Radio 1, earning featured spots on their respective SXSW coverage.Mise En Place, the band's upcoming sophomore full-length, weaves together the uncertainty of adulthood with a personal desire to establish existential structure. It also marks the band's first release with San Francisco-based Father/Daughter Records. Revolving around a formative relationship, this album tells the story of Cohen's conflicting roles as both person and partner while highlighting a sophisticated, dimensional sound from the band at large. In Mise En Place, arrangements take center stage, overwhelming the guitar-centric sound that had dominated their early releases. This new band dynamic comes together articulately in the album's lead single, "Living Room." Moody and honest, with tracks that express both joy and isolation, Mise En Place explores the struggle to evade traditionalism, define personal success, and balance the expectations of love.

Diet Cig are here to have fun. Theyre here to tear you away from the soul-sucking sanctity of your dumpster-fire life and replace it with pop-blessed punk jams about navigating the impending doom of adulthood when all you want is to have ice cream on your birthday. Alex Luciano (guitar and vocals) and Noah Bowman (drums) have been playing music together ever since Luciano interrupted the set of Bowman's previous band for a lighter. The New York duo have since released the infectious, 2015 Over Easy EP that introduced consistent sing-a-long lyrics with thrashing drums and strums that never held back. Swear Im Good At This is the first full-length from the band and accumulates their tenacity for crafting life-afirming, relatable tales with a gutsy heart at their core. Luciano has the ability to write lyrics that are both vulnerable and badass, perfecting a storm of emotive reflection that creates a vision of a sweaty, pumped-up room screaming these lines in unison. Diet Cig make it okay to be the hot mess that you are. Wrapping up Swear Im Good At This on Halloween 2016, exactly two years after they finished recording Over Easy on Halloween 2014, Diet Cigs first, full-length LP validates the experiences of punks who arent always accepted first time around; the punks who throw their deuces up at the dominating bro-dudes and ignite the importance of owning everything that you are.
