incl. MOSCOMAN REMIXFreerange welcomes Italian via Berlin producer/DJ/label boss Enzo Elia for his debut on the label entitled The Lost Guitar Tapes. Enzo is someone who has been releasing consistently great music for many years, although often hidden behind a myriad of pseudonyms and underground imprints. For starters he’s responsible for a mysterious yet established and veryexcellent edits label as well as being a member of Balearic Gabba Sound System alongside Bjorn Torske amongst others. Following the philosophy of this collective, Enzo is also producing lovingly and respectfully createdre-edits of long lost techno and house tracks as well as many new tunes for influential labels including Golf Channel and Compost. But for now we turn to The Lost Guitar Tapes and specifically the original mix of Drifting which opens up the release with a brilliant tensionbuilder. A rolling bassline, crisp minimal drums and a subtly Middle Eastern-influenced melodic line give just a hint of mysticism to this jewel of a track. For the remix we have none other than the Tel Aviv via Berlin producer Moscoman, fresh from his brilliant debut LP on ESP Institute and releaseson Eskimo and his own Disco Halal label. Moscoman’s organic, percussion-heavy sound and Middle Eastern roots make him the perfect choice to takeon Drifting and we couldn’t have wished for a better outcome. He managesto inject his own identity to the track with newly recorded live guitar and bass parts and taking in elements of techno, new wave and house, he’screated a sublime piece of dancefloor drama. Finally we have an alternate Dub version which lays down a firmer four on the floor, extra percussion and dubby stabs for a more driving atmosphericclub tool.

We hit you with the second single from Jimpster's acclaimedSilent Stars LP loaded with the good stuff! The album has received much love from DJ's and critics alike and it's clear that after 25 years in the business Jamie Odell retains his reputation as one of the most talented and consistent electronic artists in the UK. As A&R and DJ he also boasts a fine ear for emerging talent and here he hands over the reigns to two hotly tipped producers to rework his originals. First up we have the incredible Peggy Gou who takes on The Sun Comes Up ft. Jinadu. Her speedy rise through the ranks over the past 12 months has been down to just a handful of brilliant EP's on Rekids and Phonica and her skills as a club DJ. The Berlin based Korean sits somewhere between Detroit, London and Berlin in sound and her DJ sets are an assured, kinetic combination of dark, pulsing house and techno, broken beats and abstract compositions. Her influences shine through on her remix which goes deep and musical whilst retaining an energetic drive for the dancefloor. Perhaps the most mesmerizing, floor-focused track from the LP is up next; Silent Stars. An electronic tribal dance which builds to a speaker-wobbling sub-bass breakdown and wonderful chord section at the climax. Next, a remix from West Coast native Urulu who came to Jimpster's attention through his releases on Let's Play House, Dirt Crew and his own Amadeus label. Trying to describe his remix of Where You Areft. Khalil Anthony is no easy task, fusing elements of techno, broken beat and afro house, but check it out and if you can think of a suitable new sub genre to pigeonhole it with, let us know. Closing the release we have the slow-burning, balearic-tinged beauty known as The Sun Comes Up featuring Jinadu on vocals. This is one to drop in the warm after-glow of a crazy night under the stars when tired legs and happy hearts crave a soulful groove to give them one last lift.

For our 225th release on Freerange we welcome an exciting new Austrian producer who goes by the name Demuja. His Mary Janes Theory record caused something of a stir when it came out at the start of the year on his fledgling vinyl-only label Muja.Having now clocked up over 300k plays on youtube and reportedly being offered for silly money on Discogs it’s clear to see there’s a buzz on this guy, and when you check his music you’ll hear why. Taking his inspiration from classic deep house but with a rough and raw approach, Demuja can sit proudly alongside the likes of Ross From Friends, Mall Grab or Rimbaudian riding the new wave of fresh, contemporary house. On his Freerange debut, the Move EP offers up four original tracks, eachwith their own distinct flavour. Opening the release we have title track Move spring into action with simple Rhodes chords floating across a crisp, driving up-tempo groove showing off the deeper side to Demuja. Next up B.o.o.m offers us a simple yet captivating, dancefloor-focused affair with a lone, repeating piano stab hooking us into the action. Flipping over we have Into My Brain which brings some acid-tinged Italo vibes and a jacking beat to proceedings whilst the closing track Turn Me On cuts up a much- loved Paradise Garage classic for a warm, soul-infused slice of classic, bumpy house music.

Having been on something of a hiatus following the birth of his kids, Milton Jackson is back and in best form ever on Songs Without Words. His most recent releases have been on UK label Tsuba and is responsible for remixes for Recloose on Planet E, Al Kent, and M A N I K. Kito Jempere debuted on Freerange in 2013 but quickly got soon after got snapped up for EP's on Dirt Crew, Let's Play House and most recently Room With A View. He also owns and manegs the Fata Morgana label from his base in Saint Petersburg. Pittsburgh Track Authority are the genre bending trio releasing some of the finest house and techno from the East Coast of the US on their own label In The Machine Age as well as esteemed imprints such as Azuri, Argot and Finale Sessions. Kuniyuki is something of a Japanese enigma, staying resolutely below the radar despite being heralded by many (including Derrick May) as a major inspiration. The multi-instrumentalist has collaborated with Henrik Schwarz, Vakula, DJ Nature and Jimpster and has released on Mule and Sound Of Speed and remixed DJ Sprinkles, Joe Clausell and Ananda Project.

Freerange HQ says: "This is an exciting one for us, it has to be said. We're nearing our 200th Freerange release and in that whole time there's only been one rissue of a previously available track, that being Blackjoy's 'Untitled'. Almost ten years on and it's time to indulge ourselves once more by presenting you with two of our all time favorite house tracks, which incidentally both happen to be by Chicagoans Hula, Maurice Joshua, Martell Steward and Craig Simpkins - better known as Da Posse. Many of you will probably know 'In the Heat Of The Night' which was released on Future Records in 1988 and some of you might even have a copy on vinyl. If so then good for you because the original is currently changing hands for serious money because somewhat strangely there don't seem to have been any obvious edits or white labels of these particular Da Posse tracks and certainly no official re release on vinyl or digital. We hope you agree that with club music like this sounding every bit as mind blowing today as it did in 1988 it seems only right to help introduce such innovative, influential and timeless music to a wider audience."

A leading figure of the contemporary electronic world, Jamie Odell aka Jimpster sets his sights firmly back on the album format with this beautifully crafted long-player; Silent Stars. A self-confessed creature of the night, the Freerange Records and Delusions Of Grandeur boss taps into his nocturnal and escapist impulses to deliver a superbly executed modern-day fusion album. His seventh studio album and first since 2013’s highly-acclaimed Porchlight And Rocking Chairs, this is an album dedicated to the nocturnal hours. Silent Stars is a richly textured ride through the tapestry of house, from jazz-infused opener ‘Migrations’ through to the dense, orchestral euphoria of ‘Tau Tona’ and the minimal, percussive bounce of title track ‘Silent Stars’. The listener edges a touch closer to the dancefloor on tracks like ‘Yansa’ and ‘Power of the Doof’ - yet the grooves stay subtle with intricate percussion, dense sound design and a mischievous streak being palpable throughout.A range of guests are welcomed by Jimpster across Silent Stars. Hotly-tipped Londoner Florence Rawlings adds her vocals on ‘Crave’ and ‘Everytime’. Past collaborator and member of Kirk Degiorgio’s The Beauty Room, Jinadu weaves emotional soul on album centerpiece ‘The Sun Comes Up’. Khalil Anthony lends his vocals on ‘Where You Are’ and leading session drummer Andy Gangadeen (Massive Attack, Chase & Status, The Bays) lays down his immense beats on ‘Tau Tona’.Jimpster is a true veteran of the global house scene, a custodian of the authentic deep house sound and a producer who has quietly created some of the most reflective and sophisticated electronic music of the past two decades. 20 years on from his album debut, Jamie Odell continues to impress. The LP will be accompanied by two singles including remixes from Peggy Gou, Atjazz, Flabaire and Urulu.

Adam Port and Jimpster have had a special kind of ‘virtual’ relationship the lastfew years with a mutual respect for each others productions and output of theirrespective labels. Keinemusik, which Adam runs alongside Rampa, &ME and Reznik, has grown into one of the most consistent and hottest out there right now withevery release creating a big splash and bringing magic to so many dancefloorsaround the world. Adam recently remixed Jimpster’s Eel Pie Island to devastatingeffect bringing his own deep, late night atmospherics to the original andcreating one of 2016’s underground hits in the process. So now we’re verypleased to welcome Adam Port (alongside legendary UK artists Stereo MC’s) for afull release on Freerange in the form of Changes.Opening the release we have Adam’s own remix which sets the tone with a subtleand gently building groove providing the perfect backdrop for the Stereo MC’sesoteric vocal. This lesson in restraint shows why Adam’s productions work sowell on big systems, letting all the focus shine firmly on the vocal creating anintense atmosphere with not a single huge breakdown in sight!Next up we have the original of Changes which takes a more electro approach witha simple bassline and crisp hats and once again allowing the vocal space to takecentre stage for a deep and memorable track with a message. Finally we have a remix from our own Jimpster opts to push in a completelydifferent direction. Shuffling up the groove and laying down a repeating Rhodesriff we’re treated to an altogether more soulful and less stark version makingthe perfect compliment to the the package. This one makes us think of his remixof Osunlade’s Momma’s Groove which is no bad thing we feel! Enjoy!

Jimpster serves up the first single entitled Crave from ahead of his forthcoming Silent Stars LP complete with remixes from Atjazz and Flabaire. In its original form Crave, which features the vocals from hotly-tipped Londoner Florence Rawlings, is an emotionally charged electronic torch song guaranteed to get inside your head from the very first listen. The spacey chords and punctuating string stabs bring hints of the 80’s to mind whilst Florence’s gentle vocal floats in the air like a fresh sea breeze. In addition to the mesmerizing original we present two brilliant and contrasting remixes from one of the UK’s legendary producers Atjazz as well as Paris‘ rising star Flabaire whose D.KO Records has been dropping gem after gem since 2013. Atjazz spins Crave into outerspace with a fat, driving groove and twisted sonics making for an incredibly deep and forward-looking slice of aural gold. In contrast, Flabaire looks back to the early 00’s for his classic soulful house rework which calls to mind the sounds of Spinna and vintage Naked Music. Closing the release we have another original track entitled Where You Are featuring Berlin based US native Khalil Anthony. Here we find Jimpster doing what he does best, creating a sublime late night club track with his deft musical touch making this one that will stand out in the crowd.

inc. Eli Escobar RemixRed D is back for a follow up to his brilliant Chez EP which dropped last year and this time he’s going for the jugular! The man responsible for some of the finest house music of the last decade as FCL (with San Soda) and FCL vs VFB (with Motor City Drum Ensemble) knows a thing or two about what makes the dancefloor lose its s**t, with tracks such as Let’s Go Seven, It’s You and Can We Try all testament to this. When he’s not DJing at the likes of Panorama Bar or hosting his own stage at Tomorrowland, Red D can be found running his own mighty fine We Play House label from his Ghent HQ.Moan The Mania opens this release in suitably back to the raw fashion! A minimal drum machine groove and clipped bassline lay the foundations of this tribute to all things jacking with a sprinkling of porno groans to help you on your way. This is sleazy machine funk at it’s very best. Next up we have a remix from Eli Escobar, the native New Yorker who has recently been making major waves following the release of his LP Happiness on Classic. As someone who has remixed the likes of Lana Del Rey, Kim Ann Foxman, Honey Dijon and Holy Ghost we knew he’d be the man to take Red D’s baton and run with it.Keeping the overall vibe of the original intactEli cranks the energy further with additional in your face percussion parts and a couple of perfectly placed build ups. Flipping over we have Chase The Cat which takes a similarly stripped-back and minimal approach as Moan The Mania but goes heavier on the 707 beats. Finally we have Dusk Or Dawn closing the release with a deeper mood.Simple FM synth stabs and glassy chimes provide a tender and naive-sounding counterpoint to the basic beats.Red D proving once again that limiting your tools and not over-complicating things can often have so much more impact when it comes to house music.

DJ Aakmael is a producer we’ve been loving for many years and we’re proud to be presenting you with his Freerange debut. The US artist has had consistent releases dating back to 2004 and has graced the discographies of many a fine label including Uzuri, Earthrumental, Kolour Ltd, his own UnXpozd Entertainment and most recently the hotly tipped UK label Church. Here on his Daydreeming EP we’re treated to four original tracks of real house music produced by a true original of the underground. Kicking off we have Daydreeming with muscular beats laying the foundation for some widescreen orchestral strings and off-kilter and subtly deranged torchsong vocals. Rimbaudian steps up for the remix following what for us, is one of the tracks of 2016; Werka 8 from his Meda Fury release. The Swedish producer brings a very fresh approach with a loopy and hypnotic techno edge which draws you in with it’s repeating vocal and trippy sinewave melodies.Flipping over we have Basement 2 which drops the tempo slightly for a more heads down Detroit-inspired jam. A simple three note synth repeats throughout while moody pads bring the deep heat resulting in a track that you could get lost in for days. Beacot Road closes the EP in fine style with introspective filtered piano chords providing the magic on this simple, stripped back track, the whole thing sounding somehow blunted like it’s being beamed through a thick haze of ganja smoke. Enjoy, and please show your support for DJ Aakmael!

June 2016 sees Freerange Records celebrate 20 years at the top. The label, run by Jamie ‘Jimpster’ Odell and Tom Roberts, is marking the occasion with the summer release of a carefully curated and lovingly assembled 20 track, five vinyl box set featuring exclusive new music from associates old and new, as well as with a worldwide events series.Over the last two decades, generations of DJs and dancers have gotten down to the Freerange sound. Initially that was a mix of sample-heavy productions incorporating live musicians, flirtations with the broken beat sound and some ground breaking fidget house cuts from Switch and Trevor Loveys. Then, and most enduringly, the label settled into a rich vein of deep house. Shur-I-Kan, Kirk Degiorgio, Milton Jackson, Trackheadz, Stimming as well as Jimpster ushered in this most recent chapter, and in turn the label has helped make household names of many more previously unknown talents from Detroit Swindle to Manuel Tur, Andre Lodemann to Tony Lionni. Wherever you look amongst the hundreds of EP and LP releases on Freerange, you will find nuance and evolution, dance floor sensibility and genuine emotional impact. That same sense of timelessness characterises this new compilation, which is packed with great music from the likes of KiNK, Pittsburgh Track Authority, Kuniyuki, Kito Jempere, Soul of Hex, Clavis, Detroit Swindle, and of course Jimpster himself, as well as a whole host of other Freerange regulars. There are many highlights across the 20 track package including a warm and skipping house cut from Bulgarian live specialist KiNK, a typically slow burning and beautifully arcing epic from Andre Lodemann and spaced out jack tracks from classically inclined Liverpudlian Tony Lionni.Big name stars like Detroit Swindle return in style with a robust and acid laced banger, the ever-underrated Milton Jackson builds something melodically magical and Pittsburgh Track Authority layer up majestic string stabs and rubbery bass into soul infused future music. Jimpster himself bolsters the whole package both solo and with Luv Jam as well as remixing Tim Toh, and on each occasion proves why he is one of the pivotal figures of the UK deep house scene.Few labels make it to twenty releases let alone twenty years strong. Often doing so without making any real fuss, now is the time that Freerange Records deserves its time in the spotlight, and this compilation more than proves that.

incl. Jacob Korn RemixesIntroducing Red D, the Belgian DJ and producer, one half of FCL (alongside San Soda), long standing club promoter (since 1992), owner of We Play House and general all round good guy. With releases on Ferrispark and Delusions Of Grandeur (with MCDE), remixes on Eskimo, regular sets at the likes of Panorama Bar and anRA Mix under his belt you could say things are falling into place nicely. On topof all this his FCL project continues to go from strength to strength with a new EP dropping soon on Kai ‘KZR’ Alce’s highly regarded NDATL label. When he sent over two originals for Freerange it was love at first listen as the simple, warm beats and emotive chord stabs of title track Chez oozed from thespeakers. This sounded to me like house music in it’s purest form, from the dayswhen the focus was on a feeling rather than complex sounds or technologicaltrickery. And the proof is in the pudding with this one as you can feel the dance floor go into some kind of collective bubble of love whenever you play it.The second original follows drawing you into a false sense of security withfamiliar 707 beats and gentle pads before taking a left turn. Appropriatelytitled Into Darkness the blissful vibes of the intro begin to fall away as thetrack reaches a breakdown and we’re treated to the rudest of Chi-Town basslines taking us down a somewhat less wholesome path.Flipping over we’re treated to two Jacob Korn remixes, one of each of theoriginals and if the A side is the good cop, we can trust the Uncanny Valleyregular to deliver some pure badness on the flip. His Remix of Chez is clearlyinspired by his studio hardware as you can hear the improvised and ‘live‘ sounding arrangement, the machines taking on a life of their own as things twist and turn in a spontaneous and unpredictable way. A rattling white noise pulse drives the rhythm whilst bubbling synths add some lightness to the pummelingkick.Into Darkness gets the Korn treatment next and here he puts it right through the sonic mangler, tape saturation distorting the mix to within an inch of it’s life. Jacob puts the focus on the bassline of the original, keeping things simple atfirst before winding in layers of Juno chords and the bleepiest of synth lines resulting in the finest of raw, bassment house jams.

incl. Edward RemixSeems like something’s going on across the pond at the moment with seemingly blossoming, or at least rejuvenated scenes in the United States and Canada. Our last handful of releases on Freerange have included artists from Montreal, Tujuana, Pittsburgh and Chicago and we’re about to add Los Angeles to the list with this new one from Justin Jay and Ulf Bonde. The young producers have been steadily building steam with a number of fine releases the last couple of years and we welcome them to Freerange for their debut EP entitled Indecision. The title track sets the mood with a low-slung, super-deep house groove complete with an intimate vocal and a charming simplicity which contributes to the powerful end result. Elements come into focus then disappear in a fog of reverbwhilst playful guitar picks add a live jammed feel to the loping groove givingthings a Bob Moses/Francis Harris kind of vibe.Next up is Justin’s own Dub version which steers a similar course but focuses on a more floor-friendly arrangement and minimal vocals.Flipping over we have Giegling and White regular Edward taking the reigns and working his magic on an incredible, epic remix of Indecision. Those who follow his every move as we do here at Freerange might have some idea of what to expect. The result is a glorious, almost ten minute long fusion of ambient, dub techno and deep, sub-aquatic house to lose your marbles to. It’s fairly pointless trying to describe the delicate twists, turns and subtle details that make up this piece, suffice to say, it’s the kind of track that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.Closing the digital release we have a bonus track in the form of I See You. Once again, Justin and Ulf have created a heady mix of delicate vocals, dubby atmospherics and a crisp beats which drive the groove along perfectly.

The duo hailing from Montreal andconsisting of Hollis P Monroe and Overnite have been responsible for someseriously influential tracks over the years, not least Hollis’ bonafideclassic from 1997 - I’m Lonely. For The Rest is a slice of sultry, stripped back house heaven which dripswith soul and will melt the hearts of all who hear it. The key to thetracks beauty is in the minimalism of the production keeping everythingpaired back to the bare bones and placing all the focus on Overnite’svocal which twists and mutates thanks to some clever use of FX.Who better to work their magic on the remix than German producer Show-Bwho comes fresh off his incredible Jaap Ligthart Remix and Washint EP onhis own Lossless label . Turning to Part B we open with a brilliant track with almost as good a title: Hamburglar from Luv Jam. This guy has been responsible for killer cuts on esteemed labels such as We Play House, Tsuba and Phonica White so we wanted in on the action and thankfully he indulged us. We absolutely love the raw simplicity of this track which bumps along just perfectly with not much more than a kick, clap and single note bass line to keep you grooving. Apart from the repeating piano stab hooking you in and sending people nuts when everything drops out in the break that is. Esa & Mervin Granger come next with the sublime deepness of Goema Heat. Esa’s proudly wearing his Cape Town roots on his sleeves on this one and as the title suggests, has come up with the perfect track to warm up any party worth it’s salts. We’re talking heavy on the percussion and tantalizing synth FX and a lovely tension which builds subtly before taking things up a gear after the breakdown when the bouncing bassline comes to the fore. It’s fare to say a Freerange release such as this wouldn’t be complete without a Manuel Tur contribution, so while we’ve been busy putting together his forthcoming Remix Retrospective LP we’re happy to say Manuel found the time to put together this gem entitled Laguenesie. And last but not least we have Kito Jempere with his track This Is Why We Do This featuring Detroit luminary Jerry The Cat. St. Petersburg native Kito drops serious heat on this raw and dubby club jam which we feel is probably as close to an ‘archetypal’ Freerange track as it’s possible to get so sums up this special release perfectly.

Jimpster returns with his first original track since his 2013 Porchlight And Rocking Chairs LP. Andy Hart has been causing a stir with his new label Voyage Recordings becoming a real talking point after just three releases from Harvey Sutherland, Saine, M5K and Andy's own productions.

Massive remix package alert!! Whilst randomly flicking through his Itunes library Manuel Tur hit upon a selection of remixes that have been made of his music over the years and realized that, as well as many of them having gone criminally under the radar, many are absolutely solid gold and all of them deserve to be put together on one LP to showcase these beauties. The artists involved reads like a who’s who of underground house and techno with vintage names like Pepe Bradock, Ian Pooley and Isolée rubbing shoulders with young upstarts like Ugly Drums and Damiano von Erckert. For those who are already familiar with these remixes we wanted to make sure you had some brand new and exclusive music to get your teeth into so added three brilliant remixes of tracks from Manuel’s latest LP Es Cub to the package which is exactly what you have here on this sampler release. All three names need little by way of introduction, being Poker Flat honcho Steve Bug, Feel and One Track founder John Daly and Innervisions and Pets regular Aera. All three deliver their own unique take with their trademark quality and attention to the dancefloor all present and correct.

2012 was an interesting year for Manuel Tur. Having released his second LP Swans Reflecting Elephants, the Spanish-German producer moved to his fathers birthplace in Ibiza to spend a year on the island where he felt a strong connection despite having never lived there. One year spent on Ibiza might not be that out of the ordinary for a music producer and DJ but when you take into account that he visited not one single club in that time choosing instead to spend his days and nights in the hills amongst fig and almond trees just reading, watching films and contemplating his future musical direction then things become more interesting. Manuel fondly named his small studio set up at his Dad's place Es Cub (The Cube) and it was here in this sanctuary away from the distraction of clubs and friends that he began to forge the tracks that we present on this LP. As Manuel describes, what started life as a collection of little finger exercises and sonic experiments soon grew into fully arranged club tracks. These were clearly influenced by the omnipresent house and techno that he could hear drifting from the nearby beach club which rose above the rustle of wind-swept trees and chirping cicadas whilst he sat on his terrace. If all this sounds like a bit of a Balearic cliche?, then so be it because Manuel is happy to admit to just how much the esoteric, cabalistic nature of Ibiza influenced him in the making of Es Cub.
