In the summer of 1976, recording engineer/songwriter Barry Knoedl was asked to play bass and sing backup at a recording session. When the work was done, Barry asked if he could record one of his own songs, "Baby Don't Give Up." Backed with another original ("I Just Want To Make You Happy"), the resulting single became the surprising second release on Jim "Nipo" Antonucci's Death Records, home to Jimi LaLumia's "Death to Disco" movement and future label of Cracked Actor's KBD classic "Nazi School" 45. You'd never know it from the cartoonish picture sleeve or the name of the record label, but both sides of New Yorker Barry Knoedl's obscure, self-produced single on red vinyl offer a light, sweet pop sound fortified by piano and guitar and Knoedl's white-bread vocals. Sourced from Barry's digital remixes, this hand-numbered reissue limited to 300 copies includes liner notes featuring the history of the Death Records label and a download code.

The Bradburys hailed from the northeast corner of Illinois, birthed from the wreckage of two Chicagoland bands (The Stepping Stones and The Good). Their debut, introducing the Bradburys, was produced by Jeff Murphy of Shoes at his band's Short Order Recorder in 1999. (Murphy's longtime bandmate Gary Klebe turned up to provide background vocals as well.) Self-released on the Bradburys' own Vandalay Records imprint, introducing the Bradburys is nigh impossible to find nowadays. Luckily, the resident archivists at Frodis Records have dug up two tracks for the Bradburys' vinyl debut, including the killer "Marilyn," which features Ted Ansani of Material Issue. This obscure Midwestern pop gem produced by Jeff Murphy of Shoes and featuring Ted Ansani of Material Issue comes in a limited, hand-numbered pressing of 400 copies with liner notes from Bradburys’ mastermind Dan Pavelich and a complimentary download code.

Printed liner notes are included plus a comprehensive Toms discography, featuring commentary by Tom himself. It is a limited edition of 500 copies on hand numbered, black vinyl. One weekend in 1979, a cancellation at the home recording studio of New Jersey producer Tommy Marolda left him with two free days. So Marolda challenged himself to write and record as many songs as he could, as fast as he could all by himself. Over the course of the weekend, Marolda finished 40 tracks, releasing his favorite twelve as a full-length album, titled simply The Toms. More than 30 years later, Marolda as writer, producer, and arranger has worked with the likes of the Killers, Rod Stewart, the Smithereens, Richie Sambora, Frank Stallone, Elton John, Cher, and Harry Nilsson; his work on the soundtrack to the film Staying Alive even netted him a Grammy nomination. But Marolda never gave up the Toms moniker, occasionally pulling it out of mothballs to release handcrafted pop in the vein of his cult power pop debut. "Fake Christmas" rounds up a killer holiday pop song, originally appearing as a bonus track on Marolda's album of Beatlesque Christmas tunes, and a 1985 re-recorded demo of "It's Needless," which originally appeared on the debut Toms album. Out of print for much of the last decade, both tracks have recently made it to iTunes, but this is the first time either has seen wax.
