Cooked straight on the searing streets of Glasgow and served up for mind-bending, floor-filling pleasure – Golden Teacher are back with Sauchiehall Enthrall, an all-new four track EP released directly by the band. Following a slew of snapped-up releases on Optimo Music, Soul Jazz / SOTU, Huntleys & Palmers and Akashic Records – which saw the band meld the worlds of acid-house, leftfield disco, EBM, dub and afrobeat – Golden Teacher have redrawn the boundaries of their sound yet again, giddily embracing jacked-up UK funky, dancehall, musique concrète and further tripped-out stylings from the badlands of Escocia. Slithering, rattling and snapping like a snake with a toothache, this EP is further proof that Golden Teacher are one of the most infectious and unhinged dance acts around at the moment. The EP comes in screen-printed silver sleeves made by the band's own hands.

Calibre’s proliferation remains at a high as we cascade into another year. His output during 2016 was remarkable even by his standards… This year looks set to be even more amplified and it starts this Friday with Grow, the title track of his last album that was never actually on his last album. It’s not as confusing as it sounds: the album Grow was released on Craig Richards’ label The Nothing Special. As a label focused more on the free-form, experimental fringes of techno and electronica, it gave Calibre a chance to really explore a deep, more technoid focused side to his work and present tracks he had never played publicly before. An introspective and very personal project; some of the album’s music dates back to the early 2000s and the album itself took Calibre and Craig several years to fine tune into the stark, dark and provocative experience that landed late last year on vinyl adorned with Craig’s striking artwork.

Both a necessary document of Marlon Silva’s early years and a crucial survey of Angolan kuduro’s formative phase and mutation in the clubs of Lisbon, the set collects nine cuts of contagious Afro-Portuguese dance music which maps strong parallels to the UK’s own transition and flux between grime and UKF, whilst also demonstrating why Marfox is now regarded as the main ambassador and catalyst for Lisbon’s colourfully influential and world-renowned style.Taking his name from Nintendo’s Starfox character (and establishing a trend for the -fox suffix so prevalent in kuduro and tarraxhina) DJ Marfox was instrumental in shaping one of today’s most vital dance scenes with a number of productions from his 17 year old self cropping up on ear-opening compilations such as the foundational DJs Do Guetto Vol.1 in 2006, and later on the Bazzerk - African Digital Dance Music set which turned a lot of DJs and dancers onto this sound. He’s subsequently released the first record on kuduro’s best alibi, Príncipe, and followed Visionist and DJ Rashad to release on J-Cush’s Lit City Trax, and has also appeared alongside his Lisbon crew on the Cargaa compilations for Warp Records. However, this set returns to his wildest early years; from the hyper disco-techno drive of Funk em Kuduro or the galloping darkwave-riding horsepower of Un Bes Bai from 2006; thru the killer jump-up downstroke of Sem Fronteiras or the inimitable, body-carving syncopation of Aiué Remix circa 2007-08, and his hollering A Própria with DJ Nervoso - which could almost be some ravenous Chicago house oddity - all of which illustrate the sound of a young producer firmly finding his feet and blazing a trail where others such as Arca, M.E.S.H. or Nidia Minaj would soon follow. Most of all though; it’s a proper dance record for summer and beyond, either as DJ tools or the soundtrack to backyard raves, BBQs and beach parties.

RP Boo returns with 'The Ultimate RP Boo', showing off six brand new cuts that mix a range of styles with his vivid use of samples and improvised drum programming. 'The Ultimate' kicks things off with a sliding synth riff that wouldn't sound out of place on a '91 Prodigy track with cut up rave vocal interjections over Bu's trademark pulsing bass. 'Bang with the Funk' crushes the 1-2-3-4-5 Sesame Street song, chopping its samples into hard shapes. Things turn dark and minimal with 'The King' which features a sample from Fresh, with strange atonal tones playing off against spooky chords and a tactile bass. On the flipside 'What Am I?' pairs syncopated snares and 4/4 bass pulses while percussion bangs and shimmers over clipped diva refrains and anxious piano. 'Bu'Moon' meshes together some pumping horn blurts and some old fashioned steamy synth wooshes that wouldn't feel out of place on a 50's sci-fi film into a relentless battle track. 'Electric Energy' finishes the EP, sampling an unusual pop source and chopping them over pulsing half time subs that pitch up and down around slipping and sliding drum hits.

Having already introduced the UK to Gqom back in 2015 — a variant of raw, stripped back South African house emanating from the city of Durban — London imprint Goon Club Allstars have tapped scene kingpin DJ Lag for an explosive four-track EP. Widely credited as one of the key players for shaping the Gqom sound as it exists today, Lag's eminence in South Africa is well-documented and on his new EP, he exhibits everything that makes it tick; fierce, powerful drums, mazy rhythms and bubbling club patterns. Like the sound he presides over, Lag's work is uncompromising, but emphatic — and designed to impact. Compiled from a vast back catalogue stretching back over four years, the EP showcases his sound to the fullest – from the bubbling sgubhu track, ‘16th Step', to the classic Gqom styles of ‘Ice Drop'. As with Rudeboyz debut Gqom 12” for the label in 2015, the EP also revels in a sense of discovery, boosted by a relationship between artist and label that goes way beyond the norm. More than prepared to put in the ground work, Goon Club Allstars have been proactive in reaching out to producers in SA over the last three years and, inspired by a shared love of the music, have played a key role in opening up Gqom to UK audiences.

Tell Your Vision EP

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Okzharp and Manthe Ribane return with their second EP ‘Tell Your Vision', a call and response between Manthe's vocals and Okzharp's production. Both bring their unique energies to the mix, manifesting in a raw confidence of new moods and temperatures that were brought out from their first taste of touring and living on autopilot. The EP's title is a reference to its opener, ‘Teleported', which was created in Okzharp's car on an exploratory drive through London and inspired by the art and energy they came across. The track opens with a ferocious bass line, with Manthe's rumbling vocals rolling rhythmically over the top. She takes us with her as she lets the music possess her as if dancing; quickly spitting the vocals back out, urging the listener to "Tell your vision!”. A much more gentle and reflective turn comes on second track ‘B U'. Okzharp's slow and soft lullaby melody and Manthe's warm and inspiring lyrics tug at the heartstrings. In the upbeat and playful ‘Maybe This', Manthe's vocals flit between a hum that softly swells over the top of Okzharp's spacey melody, into an energised and bouncing rap. The EP rounds off with the warm anthem ‘Piki Piki', with the chorus sung in the South African Sepedi dialect. Okzharp's long synth lines draw us in with Manthe's vocals melting and blending into the track. ‘Piki Piki' has an unmistakably positive vibe, which becomes emphasised when Manthe switches to English, with lyrics that advocate self-affirmation and self-love.

Back with that spice for Type, Anthony J Hart gets down to UK rave fundamentals on a killer 2nd LP under his Basic Rhythm pseudonym. Where his more prolific Imaginary Forces output is all about the push ’n pull of power noise and post-rave techno dynamics, Basic Rhythm fixes a steely focus on the physics of the UK’s hardcore continuum; decimating and distilling jungle, grime and garage into their common and most affective dancefloor denominators.Basic Rhythm offers Hart up as a sort Leyden Jar battery or vessel storing decades of absorbed and condensed pirate radio transmissions, and The Basics can be heard as his disciplined attempt to parse those muscle memories and sensations into something tangibly, rudely physical but, most crucially, leaving aside those bits he considers unnecessary in a defragging process of mental sonic décollage - breaking down outmoded values and replacing at a distance from the original medium. What remains forms a kind of refreshingly eviscerated halcyontology, recollecting and rinsing out the good times spending his p’s on new shells at legendary shops such as Music Power (Ilford) and Boogie Times; listening to Rude FM 88.2, Unity 88.4, Pulse 90.6, Weekend Rush 92.3, Kool FM 94.5; cutting dubs at Music House; and swanging his jaw at legendary venues and club nights like Stratford Rex, Temple, Labrynth, Telepathy, Slammin’ Vinyl and One Nation. In reducing those aspects to a pointillist vocabulary of sawn-off drums, harness-straining subs and tessellating, tussling stabs of flava, he leaves a spare air prompting ambiguous reading of ‘dread’ and ‘ecstasy’, depending on the listener’s own reception/perception. It’s a dichotomy at the core of E18’s postcode-warring sublow shift, explored in the crevices between rap and grime in Fake Thugs, or the way Silent Listener (Adore) is intended to illuminate dank bedrooms, whilst the ructions of Cool Breeze (Summer In Woodford Green) and the fractiously mapped road rave styles of Blood Klaat Kore lend an overlapping sense of deep topographical study to the mix.

Release:2016 /
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Blood Rite's A-Side comes in the form of two fast-paced tracks pulling guidance from juke, footwork and beyond. The opening bars kick-start with Blood Rite's aggressive rolling drums; all complimented with a jazzy trumpet call sitting comfortably atop of complex patterns. Huzzahh is equal parts high energy and smooth, with a keys led groove that is easy on the ears and takes listeners on a four minute journey through Classic Coke's influences. Flip the 12" onto GTi006's B-Side and the pace slows with the vocals of Days 2 Weeks overdubbing a glitchy juke base. The multiple layers add the signature G10 rawness and depth to the third track from the EP. The final roller, B. Tru, is a twisted edit of an instantly recognisable 80s singalong combined with dancefloor ready drum snares. Blood Rite is a four-track dose of screwed vocal loop rounds and powerful BPM measures.

Release:2016 / UK – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
London producer Dark0 has always created his music as a snapshot, a kind of journal, its sole agenda being to illustrate the thoughts, passions and frustrations of a given time and place. Previously releasing with tastemaker labels Lost Codes and Rinse, the 25-year-old’s debut for XL is the “Oceana EP”. “Oceana” describes the unstable relationship Dark0 shares with his environment, narrating the story of his city’s illusions of grandeur, mired by hypocrisy and a false sense of security. Dark0 weaves this narrative into a stunningly warm, sorrowful, yet optimistic sound creating a real cinematic journey for the listener. Dark0, who emerged as the pioneer of melodic, grime-referencing club anthems, breaks away from his previously known sound for his XL debut. Showcasing Dark0’s ease at creating tunneling melodic earworms defined by their punishing percussion and refrain, the “Oceana EP” journeys through love sick, dark-pop (‘Forever’) and total euphoria (’Luka’), before retribution (‘Plague’) and ending with ‘Heal’’s redemptive qualities. Having already gained praise from The Fader, i-D, FACT & Resident Advisor (“endlessly listenable”), Dark0’s “Oceana EP” cements the cult musician as one of the most skilled and revered producers London has today.

Nascent London label Ex-Local announces its arrival with a new 5-track EP from South London talent Kxngs. With an extensive back catalogue that includes a release on the LA collective Soulection's imprint (as Kings in 2012) - as well as self-released album earlys & EPs that can all be found on his Bandcamp page - the 25-year-old Brixton resident has been winning admirers on his own terms whilst studying Sound Arts at the University Of The Arts London which offered him an escape from a year living homeless on the city's streets. The scope of Kxngs work on this EP draws on global travels, particularly Africa, as well as Deepak Chopra's ‘The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success’ - a book that Kxngs cites as having helped him "gain enlightenment and self-awareness, helping to not only focus on everyday life but also my creativity". The Earth Sign EP draws on Afrobeat, Kuduro, Hip-Hop, Trap and further influences from South America and the Middle East. This passion for exploring world cultures and to base his musical projects on his experiences with them informs all his work, and through basing his musical themes on different areas of the world Kxngs seeks to manifest his dreams and become author of his own story.Earth Sign will be the first release on Ex-Local - a new label born out of the London club night that shifts venue every party. With a core of local artists who became returning favourites that regularly had sweat pouring from the party's ceilings, the next logical step was to start a label to help bring this young, exciting & creatively adventurous new talent to wider recognition. First stop, Kxngs.

Following on from last year’s “Your Charizmatic Self” EP, Night Slugs executive producer Bok Bok teams up with composer and keyboardist Sweyn Jupiter on a romantic new double A-side single. “Papaya Lipgloss” is a song about young love, presented in two distinct but equally weighty versions. Both mixes share a common melodic motif, skeletal yet sincere. The “Club Mix” draws on tribal House energy: a sweltering rhythm built of Latin percussion, Linndrum funk and pumping subs, over which melody gradually unravels in bursts of stark, juicy colour. Synths form a sensual narrative, remaining ever poised even as their pulpy goo engulfs all surfaces. This is intimate club music that brings a new kind of intensity to dance floors. Meanwhile, the “Sour Mix” is saturated and dripping with bitter-sweet nectar. This version sees “Papaya” transformed into an opulent bedroom jam, complete with quaking kickdrums and purring Moog bassline. A halftime drum kit of dumpster-drive 808s keeps things gritty while melodic goo leaks from between all the cracks.

With an extensive background of solo projects in the underground scene, the duo began their collaboration together as Unknown Archetype in 2015.The TRIPP EP is an abrasive, visceral EP of electronic body music underpinned by themes of Jungian psychology, symbolism and mythology. The industrial tech funk of lead track Voyeurism kicks things off - skittering breakbeats, squalling filters and blistering snares pile-driving the listener into ecstatic submission, while ‘Tripp’ see the duo employing sizzling bursts of white noise and caustic percussion over a jagged rhythm box figure. Matters are pared right back for the rigid austerity of closer ‘The Serpent’ - the dubbed out lead stab quivers over a strobing 909 drum groove and scything cymbals.Effortlessly balancing deep late night sounds with a unique character and intricate headphone centric programming, the TRIPP EP is a fitting and welcome addition to R&S’s storied catalogue.

* With 'Footwork Or Die', Chicagos own DJ Diamond returns to the spotlight with a strongly infectious and deep brand new masterpiece, a very worthy successor to his debut album 'Flight Muzik', originally released on the UK's Planet Mu Records in 2011. 2013 saw the release of a reloaded extended version of 'Flight Muzik' and now in late 2016 Duck N' Cover Records is very excited to have the opportunity to bring more of his outstanding music to the ears of a wide audience. * Already, with his first album DJ Diamond, aka Karlis Griffin, made clear that he is one of the Footwork scene's most original producers, with a very distinctive style of his own that is not repiclable. The epic quality and deepness of some of the brightest moments on 'Flight Muzik' is back and in some cases even topped with his second full length release. The most important factor that made DJ Diamond a local legend long before the debut album was available is the apparent musicality of his productions. The style lends itself also to outsiders, whilst not compromising on the frenzy that is needed to bring the Footworkers the necessary heat. A hybrid, only a genius mind can fabricate! * In 2016, DJ Diamond still stands out and shines with a bright light. Experience once again a beautifully sequenced album with stylish artwork for which Duck N' Cover Records is notorious for. A perfectly well balanced compilation of deep and hard hitting material, bearing the mark of a classic great album that will stand the test of time with a smile.

Apollo introduce Sieren, AKA Matthias Frick.A software engineer at Ableton by day, Sierens love for UK influenced bass music and field recording and experimental soundscaping has resulted in this masterly EP of atmospheric street-rave soul. This is his first release since his debut LP ‘Transients of Light, released earlier this year on Christian Lofflers Ki records.Fittingly, fellow Apollo cohort Synkro was instrumental in the curation of the Static Polymorphism EP - hand picking the tracks, as well as road testing them to memorable effect on Berghains hallowed system no less.Neglection opens the release, with billowing widescreen pads, a ghostly 2-step drum figure and pulsing subs, ‘Rebase ratchets up the intensity, with sinister bass drones punctuated by strafing perc and hissing ambiance while ‘Relictss angelic yet melancholic atmosphere pulls the listener in with heart-aching synth washes and whispered female vocals. Closer ‘How To pairs mechanistic slo-mo funk with caustic 808 kicks, muttered vox and juddering bass stabs. This is richly textured and intricately programmed post-bass music that is sure to satisfy fans of Burial, dBridge, Akkord with its soulful sincerity and warmth.

Having repeatedly proven himself to be one of the UK's most innovative rising producers, Impey returns with his debut EP, 'Midnight In Little Havana', on the critically acclaimed Astral Black imprint. The release follows his 'BangClap' single which comes off the back of two prolific years that have seen the 20 year old producer crafting soundscapes for viral campaigns for Converse, securing a residency on NTS, tearing up radio sets alongside the likes of Faze Miyake, and having the likes of Skepta, Trim, Capo Lee and Rocks FOE bless his instrumentals on sets from Slimzee, DJ Maximum, Kahn & Neek, Murlo and Plastician. 'Midnight In Little Havana' sees Impey serving up a diverse five track collection that showcase his versatile production skills drawing influence from Grime, Jersey club and Vangelis-esque synthscapes. The EP is as much for the dance floor as it is the after hours bus home. At its centre is long time crowd favourite 'Bleepz' which finally sees its official release, having been a go-to track exclusively for DJs such as Boofy & Hi5Ghost and Kromestar. The track is framed by 130bpm dance floor melters 'Pep Talk' and 'Pong Song' as well as showing Impey's more intricate side through its title track and 'Inner', both of which resemble Astral Black releases by the likes of Drae Da Skimask and Jaisu moreso than its club-focussed vinyl releases. 'Midnight In Little Havana' is presented visually with another stellar effort from Astral Black in-house designer Oscar Whale; the 12" being housed in a full colour sleeve depicting an illustration of Miami's Little Havana strip, as detailed & nuanced as Impey's productions. 'Midnight In Little Havana' is set for release on October 14th on 12" vinyl & digital via Astral Black.

Fifty First Recordings was created in 1994 out of a small but very productive studio in London called State 51 using the down time and the very talented engineers who had been brought together for State 51's existing clients. State 51 was the go to Studio for the likes of X-press 2, Sharp, Amalgamation Of Soundz. The engineers we worked with included Mark Woolford, James Brown, James Reynolds & Mark Yardley. Fifty First Recordings soon found a name for itself and was very quickly at the forefront of the new generation of UK Garage music. We produced and released music in the 90's, for over 7 years, with the likes of Tuff Jam etc. and later went to develop other imprints such as Konnect / Test Press / Unda Vybe / Spread love / Tick etc., some in partnership with producers and managed artists. This is the first release from Fifty First Recordings archives. Future releases will include tracks from other labels in the 51st stable including previously un-released mixes!

Berlin-based Obstacle Records returns for its second release with another EP that draws on UK garage heritage while offering its own fresh take via a trio of newer names to watch out for. The EP’s original track comes from Lesus - a hitherto unknown name that splices its stripped down Ghost-esque rhythmic backbone with an uneasy chiming melody. The A2’s remix from Obi - another name to keep track of - retains the pace & 2step stylings of the original while combining it with a Chicago house sensibility. On the B side we find two alternate versions from the mysterious Prince of Ethiopia. The 808 version mutates the track into a old school hip hop instrumental, with the aforementioned 808 sounds to the fore, replete with vocal samples, record scratches and ray guns. The MT40 version takes those elements, loses the snarling bassline, and pins it all to a broken beat rhythm, once again underlining Obstacle’s reverence for UK dance music culture & its desire to push it into surprising new territory.

DJ Nigga Fox / Zutzut / Draveng / Bekelé Berhanu / HvadRabit’s Halycon Veil renders a crucial 6-track showcase of up-to-the-minute style and pattern associated with the rhizomic Janus crew; compiled by their mutual brethren, Jim C. Nedd and titled Conspiración Progresso after his Milan-based club night, Progresso.Scoping three debut vinyl appearances and spanning a dizzying breadth of idiosyncratic collage and rhythmic structures, the EP serves to illustrate the boundary morphing DJ aesthetics common to these far-flung comrades, both in their celebrated online mixes and IRL in front of the bass bins.A-side: Bekelé Berhanu follows a compelling 30 minute JANUS003 mix from 2015 with a tense, fractious collage of East African instrumentation, chants and bass detonations heard from an elevated, drone-eyed perspective in W.I.I.A; Copenhagen’s Syg Nok records ring-leader Hvad induces a juking motion sickness with the warp speed tilt and juddering pulse of Bleeding Grey Wall ; and Príncipe’s DJ Nigga Fox ft. Vipra contributes a squashed pressure system of slow, heaving, squeaky kuduro and Italian Progressive in Lento Violento.B-side: An Unknown operator squirts an Untitled piece of thrillingly sharp yet rugged quasi-electro dancehall chrome; Monterrey, MX producer Zutzut holds down dense mix of curdled, Autechrian harmonics and militant, latin drum cadence in the pitching slosh and bounce of Jala; the EP’s most minimal confection comes from Draveng with a writhing, muscle-tightening shuffle called Internal Debate that sounds like an insectoid Baby Ford trapped in a ketamine loop.Collected, Conspiración Progresso represents an imaginative cross-section of the contemporary dancefloor’s lesser-known, but no less than vital aspects: a new generation of club music lovers looking to advance, twist their art.

"DJ Sliink, springing from the Jersey Club scene, has built an impressive reputation for his contributions to North American dance music. So much so that Vibe Magazine included him on their list of 30 DJ's to watch. His angular, spare take on club music can be described as straight forward, as much as a punch in the face can be described as straight forward anyway.Elevater Action's cadre of producers and DJ's emerged from the nascent UK Funky scene of 2010, running a monthly event that followed the bleeding edge of that sound as it morphed into the nebulous genre of "Bass Music". The collective hosted DJ Sliink to a packed house in 2012, and have featured a diverse range of artists including HXdb, Distal, Donga, Cosmic Revenge, Prism, and Mike G.As a label, Elevater Action puts aside ego and theatrics to focus on forward thinking, quality releases for fans of the ever-evolving concept of the sound system. There's no better way of expelling hubris than using their third vinyl release to again showcase artists they respect and admire, this time via two of the best remixes of Elevater Action's own productions. DJ Sliink's reworking of FBOM's haunting 'Jansen' gives a muscular edge to the original, with crushing bass and a stark intensity that's set to tear up vinyl sets everywhere. A longtime favorite of the EA crew, KingThing reworks Dylan C's fantastic "Invasive Species" into a thumping, slow-burn of uncontrollable gyration. The propulsive, but dark brand of minimalism exhibited by both tracks is primed to ignite the dance floor. "---The Stateside bass collective Elevater Action's 5th vinyl release finds London based maestro Mr. Mageeka delivering 2 cuts of visceral and hypnotic house music. Previously known as MC Mega, Mageeka has been a part of the UK garage movement since it's formative years and the authenticity of his music speaks for itself with relentless and truly unique vibes. The A-side "Most" finds him at top form: swing-driven four on the floor with a timeless bass line that rolls seamlessly into soulful pads and tastefully placed chords, with a frenetic vocal hook that doesn't let up. The B Side Vinyl exclusive "Up In Smoke" features a sexy and sinister organ line leading into a bonafide sermon about Jack himself. Peppered with a swaggering vocal chant that keeps the intensity high throughout the track, the raw groove revives a classic sound into a modern context. EA's own Dylan C closes out the plate with a stripped down dub edit of Most, bringing the vibe of the original into a darker context with cryptic bass flexes and stripped down, minimal percussion while the vocal of the original melts into hallucinatory staccato. Out on March 23rd from Elevater Action with exclusive distribution through Triple Vision.

Akkord return with their first original music since June 2014’s ‘HTH020’ EP. ‘Obelisk’ is a study in rhythm and frequencies, suspended in space. On the minimalistic ‘Monolith’, a single element is moulded into a 3-dimensional sound sculpture, an aural illusion of a lead weight that floats away into the ether. In contrast, ‘Megalith’ has a pulsing gravity, drawing in laser-guided blasts of bass, broadsides of pitched-down jungle, and echoes of distant birdsong and telecommunications as it journeys through the static of space.

The EPs four tracks - “Scatter”, “Give Love”, “Shots” and “Pin Point” - represent a very focused cluster, taking both the building blocks and the essence of early 90s hardcore and jungle and imploding them at house ‘n' garage tempo. On dance floors, as witnessed by sets at Keysound Sessions in Peckham, Fabric and Outlook festival, they create a strange paradox of both percussive impact but also extreme, almost arresting disorientation. Despite its strobe-like, almost ravey feel, the vinyl artwork depicts subatomic particle scattering. The universe's DNA gets rewired in beautiful loops and curves just like rave's base pairs were sent into a disorientated spin by junglists.

'March pt. 2' follows, which taking that and flipping it into a dream-like state with a liquid type of flow. 'Gwoup' forms the crossroad between trap and footwork - the drive is reminiscent of early 90's rave music. The final original, 'People Are Acting Like', is a crazy post-trap apocalyptic screamer. The EP ends with two amazing remixes, one by the very talented Dutch producer Sam A La Bamalot who never seizes to amaze, adding a hypnotizing vocal and an emotional mood swing to 'Lost'. Helsinki's V.C. delivers a dance minded smoothie version of 'Note' which could easily be the soundtrack to a new edit ion of the 80's arcade hit video game Outrun.

“Footwork”—the very word indicates a movement of the feet that is “work” (as in an effort to achieve). Its joyous social party nature sits within a lineage of African American history that includes the infamous Soul Train dance tunnel and Hip Hop dance circles. However, as Footwork continues to become more popular, we should not forget that at its essence it is a highly evolved battle form. This is the central theme one feels listening to the stunning “Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints,” the second album from RP Boo, the man credited with inventing the Footwork genre with a 1997 track “Baby Come On” (recently re-released on the Planet Mu EP “Classics Vol. 1”).

With a musical carreer spanning over 10 years in different fields of the industry, This extraordinary EP is his first release in almost 3 years, following his album on Exit Records. Dan is the experienced artist who has a very clear idea about what he wants and what he puts out there. It takes a lot of time and involvement for him to develop his music - in this very instance, both tracks are performed on a hardware sampler loaded with snippets of an impromptu live set he distilled to perfection.

Formula Records return to label founder Champion for a weighty collaboration with none other than Merseyside's chief dancefloor antagoniser - Melé. The Get Down EP hits hard with two tracks of balanced low-end power, with the producer pairing splitting their considerable talents down the middle to work up a package of pure heads down energy. The title track is a call arms to all ravers, working a murkily outlandish bassline around hard-edged junglist riddims and a kick drum that'll punch through any system with aplomb. "Radio Babylon" leads with a steady minute of vocal cuts and distant reggae samples before dropping down into one of the finest reduced garage/bass misfits you'll hear in Q4.

Islands' is the second album and live project from Worldwide Award-winning producers LV, and Benin City vocalist Josh Idehen, three years on from their critically acclaimed debut collaboration 'Routes'. Where the 'Routes' album saw Josh’s voice used in fragments to examine themes of life in modern London, 'Islands' sees LV move Idehen’s lyrics and vocals front and centre.
