Since his debut 12" in 2007, Pangaea's music has existed in a continual state of metamorphosis. From the ghostly flex of his early singles into the rhythmic vortices of his self-released Hadal EPs, and now the mesmerising dance of In Drum Play, it's evolved into a freewheeling strain of ruffneck techno - one ear jacked into sound system culture, the other in the stomping nocturnal psychedelia of UK pioneers such as Surgeon. His DJ sets have developed in parallel, becoming fast-paced acrobatic voyages at the interface of loopy techno and more exploratory UK styles, an aesthetic captured on his 2014 mix for the Fabriclive CD series. As its title suggests, In Drum Play is a product of that feedback loop between the studio and the club. The devilishly funky intensity of tracks like 'Rotor Soap', 'More Is More To Burn' and 'DNS' emerged froma desire to write music that mirrored the late night dancefloor environments that McAuley has been DJing within. Crafted around sharpened motifs that burrow simultaneously into mind and body, they rank among his headiest and most forceful music to date.

Bristol is a tight knit place and there has always been a healthy culture of collaboration in the city, LMYE (Lend Me Your Ears) are the latet in that tradition. Two friends who met, and for a period recorded above the Idle Hands shop on Stokes Croft. They made their debut on Funkineven's Apron label earlier in 2016 with the 'Cali 76'. Here they keep things closer to home with a release on Idle Hands.'Manhattan' is as indebted to '70s US Funk as it is to '90s Uk Garage. A house tune that has turned heads on the various mixes it has found itself on over the last year.Over on the flip Shanti Celeste turns in a brilliant remix, one of her best we think.

Unknown Archetype AKA Roxy Tripp & Oliver Kucera debut their visceral experimental techno for R&S on this three track EPUnknown Archetype is a collaborative project between Roxy Tripp, a British conceptual artist & music producer, and Oliver Kucera a Czech born Producer & Live performer, residing in the Netherlands. With an extensive background of solo projects in the underground scene, the duo began their collaboration together as Unknown Archetype in 2015.The TRIPP EP is an abrasive, visceral EP of electronic body music underpinned by themes of Jungian psychology, symbolism and mythology. The industrial tech funk of lead track Voyeurism kicks things off - skittering breakbeats, squalling filters and blistering snares pile-driving the listener into ecstatic submission, while ‘Tripp’ see the duo employing sizzling bursts of white noise and caustic percussion over a jagged rhythm box figure. Matters are pared right back for the rigid austerity of closer ‘The Serpent’ - the dubbed out lead stab quivers over a strobing 909 drum groove and scything cymbals.Effortlessly balancing deep late night sounds with a unique character and intricate headphone centric programming, the TRIPP EP is a fitting and welcome addition to R&S’s storied catalogue.

Having already introduced the UK to Gqom back in 2015 — a variant of raw, stripped back South African house emanating from the city of Durban — London imprint Goon Club Allstars have tapped scene kingpin DJ Lag for an explosive four-track EP. Widely credited as one of the key players for shaping the Gqom sound as it exists today, Lag's eminence in South Africa is well-documented and on his new EP, he exhibits everything that makes it tick; fierce, powerful drums, mazy rhythms and bubbling club patterns. Like the sound he presides over, Lag's work is uncompromising, but emphatic — and designed to impact. Compiled from a vast back catalogue stretching back over four years, the EP showcases his sound to the fullest – from the bubbling sgubhu track, ‘16th Step', to the classic Gqom styles of ‘Ice Drop'. As with Rudeboyz debut Gqom 12” for the label in 2015, the EP also revels in a sense of discovery, boosted by a relationship between artist and label that goes way beyond the norm. More than prepared to put in the ground work, Goon Club Allstars have been proactive in reaching out to producers in SA over the last three years and, inspired by a shared love of the music, have played a key role in opening up Gqom to UK audiences.

Both a necessary document of Marlon Silva’s early years and a crucial survey of Angolan kuduro’s formative phase and mutation in the clubs of Lisbon, the set collects nine cuts of contagious Afro-Portuguese dance music which maps strong parallels to the UK’s own transition and flux between grime and UKF, whilst also demonstrating why Marfox is now regarded as the main ambassador and catalyst for Lisbon’s colourfully influential and world-renowned style.Taking his name from Nintendo’s Starfox character (and establishing a trend for the -fox suffix so prevalent in kuduro and tarraxhina) DJ Marfox was instrumental in shaping one of today’s most vital dance scenes with a number of productions from his 17 year old self cropping up on ear-opening compilations such as the foundational DJs Do Guetto Vol.1 in 2006, and later on the Bazzerk - African Digital Dance Music set which turned a lot of DJs and dancers onto this sound. He’s subsequently released the first record on kuduro’s best alibi, Príncipe, and followed Visionist and DJ Rashad to release on J-Cush’s Lit City Trax, and has also appeared alongside his Lisbon crew on the Cargaa compilations for Warp Records. However, this set returns to his wildest early years; from the hyper disco-techno drive of Funk em Kuduro or the galloping darkwave-riding horsepower of Un Bes Bai from 2006; thru the killer jump-up downstroke of Sem Fronteiras or the inimitable, body-carving syncopation of Aiué Remix circa 2007-08, and his hollering A Própria with DJ Nervoso - which could almost be some ravenous Chicago house oddity - all of which illustrate the sound of a young producer firmly finding his feet and blazing a trail where others such as Arca, M.E.S.H. or Nidia Minaj would soon follow. Most of all though; it’s a proper dance record for summer and beyond, either as DJ tools or the soundtrack to backyard raves, BBQs and beach parties.

Multi-instrumentalist, initially playing jazz as well as African music, Sébastien Lejeune discovered electronic music when he was living in mainland France. This was the golden age of Warp Records figureheads IDM who had a huge effect on him, in particular the naïve melodies of Plaid and Boards from Canada. During a trip back to his homeland Sébastien became Loya. From that moment on, he started to mix Réunion maloya, Mauritian séga and Indian music with footwork tempo. He blends traditional maloya drums, beatboxes and synths, harmonizing the powerful vocals of Indian Ocean Island singers.“Tony Allen Afrobeat groove inspired me a lot to create the patterns with my drums machines which is the basic of my production work. The Indian Ocean Rhythms formerly coming from Africa recover the true sense on this beats.”In 1975, Tony Allen recorded his debut album, Jealousy, the first of three made with Afrika 70 and produced by Fela Kuti. Jealousy is according to many still the highlight of his 4 solo-albums, featuring 2 afro-beat gems “Jealousy” and “Hustler”. Recorded at Decca's 16 track Abule-Oja studio in Lagos, Nigeria. Originally released on Soundworkshop Records in 1975.

Raincloud Records has announced its debut release, a two-track 12” from Mancunian duo Alan Johnson. Lead track, ‘Operator’, is a punchy, spacious stomper laced with golden-era grime horns and strings. Delayed, disembodied clicks, claps and pulses echo throughout along with a call-to-arms vocal pulled straight from the soundclash. On the flip, ‘The Poet’ builds an enormous groove out of broken percussion, spoken word and an intermittent woodwind sample in a manner that recalls early DMZ white labels. This will be Alan Johnson’s first standalone release since 2013’s standout ‘Goron Sound’ on Blank Mind. The duo channel golden-era UK soundsystem music of the mid-to-late noughties into a tight techno template, blending serious bass pressure with a dynamic rhythmic approach that pulls in influences from across the spectrum. As much touched by the bounce of UK funky as the driving tempo of techno or the abstract synths of instrumental grime, Alan Johnson’s music is emblematic of a generation that has lived through one of the most fruitful and creative periods of UK electronic dance music to date. Founded by producer/DJs Caski and Near – who have previously released as individuals on labels including Tectonic, Keysound, Ghost, EMF, Trapped Audio & Pretty Weird – Raincloud Records builds on Bristol’s famed heritage as one of the UK’s most exciting musical hubs. Sitting somewhere between early Hemlock and Hotflush, and the more industrial leanings of Livity Sound, Swamp 81 and Houndstooth, Raincloud aims to provide a home for artists reveling in a no-boundaries approach to making music for the dancefloor.

* With 'Footwork Or Die', Chicagos own DJ Diamond returns to the spotlight with a strongly infectious and deep brand new masterpiece, a very worthy successor to his debut album 'Flight Muzik', originally released on the UK's Planet Mu Records in 2011. 2013 saw the release of a reloaded extended version of 'Flight Muzik' and now in late 2016 Duck N' Cover Records is very excited to have the opportunity to bring more of his outstanding music to the ears of a wide audience. * Already, with his first album DJ Diamond, aka Karlis Griffin, made clear that he is one of the Footwork scene's most original producers, with a very distinctive style of his own that is not repiclable. The epic quality and deepness of some of the brightest moments on 'Flight Muzik' is back and in some cases even topped with his second full length release. The most important factor that made DJ Diamond a local legend long before the debut album was available is the apparent musicality of his productions. The style lends itself also to outsiders, whilst not compromising on the frenzy that is needed to bring the Footworkers the necessary heat. A hybrid, only a genius mind can fabricate! * In 2016, DJ Diamond still stands out and shines with a bright light. Experience once again a beautifully sequenced album with stylish artwork for which Duck N' Cover Records is notorious for. A perfectly well balanced compilation of deep and hard hitting material, bearing the mark of a classic great album that will stand the test of time with a smile.

RP Boo returns with 'The Ultimate RP Boo', showing off six brand new cuts that mix a range of styles with his vivid use of samples and improvised drum programming. 'The Ultimate' kicks things off with a sliding synth riff that wouldn't sound out of place on a '91 Prodigy track with cut up rave vocal interjections over Bu's trademark pulsing bass. 'Bang with the Funk' crushes the 1-2-3-4-5 Sesame Street song, chopping its samples into hard shapes. Things turn dark and minimal with 'The King' which features a sample from Fresh, with strange atonal tones playing off against spooky chords and a tactile bass. On the flipside 'What Am I?' pairs syncopated snares and 4/4 bass pulses while percussion bangs and shimmers over clipped diva refrains and anxious piano. 'Bu'Moon' meshes together some pumping horn blurts and some old fashioned steamy synth wooshes that wouldn't feel out of place on a 50's sci-fi film into a relentless battle track. 'Electric Energy' finishes the EP, sampling an unusual pop source and chopping them over pulsing half time subs that pitch up and down around slipping and sliding drum hits.

Okzharp and Manthe Ribane return with their second EP ‘Tell Your Vision', a call and response between Manthe's vocals and Okzharp's production. Both bring their unique energies to the mix, manifesting in a raw confidence of new moods and temperatures that were brought out from their first taste of touring and living on autopilot. The EP's title is a reference to its opener, ‘Teleported', which was created in Okzharp's car on an exploratory drive through London and inspired by the art and energy they came across. The track opens with a ferocious bass line, with Manthe's rumbling vocals rolling rhythmically over the top. She takes us with her as she lets the music possess her as if dancing; quickly spitting the vocals back out, urging the listener to "Tell your vision!”. A much more gentle and reflective turn comes on second track ‘B U'. Okzharp's slow and soft lullaby melody and Manthe's warm and inspiring lyrics tug at the heartstrings. In the upbeat and playful ‘Maybe This', Manthe's vocals flit between a hum that softly swells over the top of Okzharp's spacey melody, into an energised and bouncing rap. The EP rounds off with the warm anthem ‘Piki Piki', with the chorus sung in the South African Sepedi dialect. Okzharp's long synth lines draw us in with Manthe's vocals melting and blending into the track. ‘Piki Piki' has an unmistakably positive vibe, which becomes emphasised when Manthe switches to English, with lyrics that advocate self-affirmation and self-love.

Beneath’s Mistry declassifies the debut drop of UK soundboy pressure from Gaunt for public consumption. The Cambridge-born, Brixton-based producer may be fresh to the game but comes steeled for the rave with four tracks of blunt bass and toiling percussion that sound like they’ve been at it since ’92, wearing down their threads and cogs until they’re sufficiently grinding for 2015.The Hessle-favoured drunken master rolige ofCrowd Noise jumps up first with drily functional dynamics, whereas JP trips out to electro-avian chatter and tribal chant socked with gut-punch subs.Likewise, the lop-sided MMRH is sure to scatter the dance with bullying force but, the electro-filleted triplets of SP12 prove a deft mix of gloomy voices, viscous subs and dub sleight that’s cannier than his brutish gestures may first indicate.

A forgotten classic of the weird school, the crew heard a reverse time capsule in Icy Lake, a message from an Eski future to the Tribal House scene of 90s NYC. After making contact with Dat Oven’s Jeffery Gratton, L-Vis 1990 was inspired to create a series of remixes, resulting in this full reissue with additional mixes by DJ Rashad & NA (Teklife / Nguzunguzu) and Total Freedom. This release follows appearances on last year's #savefabric compilation, and more recently on 'Magic City III' compiled by Mixpak boss Jubilee.HEK029 follows a rewarding period of A&R for Hemlock that has so far delivered EPs from Bruce and Parris, with several more scheduled to drop throughout 2017.This EP's two winding tracks are a natural progression from the fiercely textural drum work of Untold's previous singles and album 'Black Light Spiral.' Here the material is given more space to breathe and released from the grid creating a lighter more footloose feel. 'Tear Up the Club' carries the weight of DMZ era half-step using a loose web of elasticated breaks and builds to reveal a striking melodic line.On 'Watton Res' exotic tones are further compressed and expanded in sequence, encasing drum machine, keyboards and guitar work within a delicate shell.

After a brief hiatus, Cold Recordings returns to form with a new release from label-boss Pinch, blurring the boundaries between dance floor sensibilities and experimental spaces. Both sides play at 128bpm making them versatile tracks to play out. ‘Water Bomb’ is finally available after many requests following its appearance on Mumdance’s acclaimed Fabriclive mix. Descriptively titled, the track leads with metalic pads and squealing electronics as a distorted bass drum builds to the break. From the drop, ‘Water Bomb’ lives up to its name, with a unique sonic leading the groove that is explosive in nature and aquatic in tone. ‘Cold New Worlds’ takes on a more hypnotic stance, entrancing and unusual from start to finish. Brooding pads and dynamic atmospherics hold together the robotic, fidgety percussive manoeuvres that rolls ever forward, constantly on the brink of collapse. Visions of parallel DMT-inspired worlds creep in and out of perspective as the landscape of the track unfolds.

After his acclaimed Heatwave and Shadows mixtapes, Leonce releases Insurgency on Fade to Mind, the first official EP from the young Atlanta-based producer. Insurgency was born from demos and sketches first recorded in 2014-2015, inspired by Leonce’s favorite elements of house music and his desire to recraft these influences into his own club microverse. In Leonce’s words: “If house is a feeling, then Insurgency is me subverting that feeling across different tempo ranges and going into weirder and darker territory, like the classic raw house tracks that inspired me.”Created as both a tribute to classical house and a critique of contemporary assembly-line dance music, the 9-track LP lovingly defies convention at every turn. Opting for deep shuffles and hypnotic progressions, his drumwork is allowed to breathe in this deeply personal spectrum, with carefully sequenced percussion and haunting melodic work. The digital version includes a bonus beats club mix of Snakes, with two additional tracks from Shadows included in the LP. Like many of his peers working in and amongst QPOC club architecture, Leonce takes personal and direct inspiration from resistance movements in contemporary America. His tracks reflect his own resistance, first weaponized for his own DJ use. There is a natural darkness to them, speaking to struggles in his own life and the constant violence against POC and queer americans. Insurgency is an artifact of symbolic black rebellion, and a sign of what’s still to come for Leonce’s productions.

Calibre’s proliferation remains at a high as we cascade into another year. His output during 2016 was remarkable even by his standards… This year looks set to be even more amplified and it starts this Friday with Grow, the title track of his last album that was never actually on his last album. It’s not as confusing as it sounds: the album Grow was released on Craig Richards’ label The Nothing Special. As a label focused more on the free-form, experimental fringes of techno and electronica, it gave Calibre a chance to really explore a deep, more technoid focused side to his work and present tracks he had never played publicly before. An introspective and very personal project; some of the album’s music dates back to the early 2000s and the album itself took Calibre and Craig several years to fine tune into the stark, dark and provocative experience that landed late last year on vinyl adorned with Craig’s striking artwork.

* Following last year’s dangerously good ‘Depatterning’ LP, Ipman returns to Tectonic to deliver his latest instalment in bass-driven technoid mutations.* ‘Constrict’ jumps straight into the deep end at 140bpm, diving head first into pulsing waves of warping, dynamic synth layers; swimming back up to the surface for air. As the intro build peaks, the track effortlessly strikes when the bass drops in, charging the techno synth interplay with a sort of 3/4-step type rhythm shaping the movements. Impeccable dance floor music that sits in an undefined zone between the worlds of techno, dubstep and somewhere yet defined.* Flip then for ‘Running Man’, which sees a sharp drop in tempo, bringing the speed down to 120bpm but maintaining the energetic build of Constrict. Starting from an almost empty space, ‘Running Man’ takes an upward momentum, building and layering percussion and sonic textures as the heat of the chase takes full effect. Dark and deadly, this is one for fans of sci-fi sonics and dread vibrations.

This is his first release since his debut LP ‘Transients of Light, released earlier this year on Christian Lofflers Ki records.Fittingly, fellow Apollo cohort Synkro was instrumental in the curation of the Static Polymorphism EP - hand picking the tracks, as well as road testing them to memorable effect on Berghains hallowed system no less.Neglection opens the release, with billowing widescreen pads, a ghostly 2-step drum figure and pulsing subs, ‘Rebase ratchets up the intensity, with sinister bass drones punctuated by strafing perc and hissing ambiance while ‘Relictss angelic yet melancholic atmosphere pulls the listener in with heart-aching synth washes and whispered female vocals. Closer ‘How To pairs mechanistic slo-mo funk with caustic 808 kicks, muttered vox and juddering bass stabs. This is richly textured and intricately programmed post-bass music that is sure to satisfy fans of Burial, dBridge, Akkord with its soulful sincerity and warmth.

Nascent London label Ex-Local announces its arrival with a new 5-track EP from South London talent Kxngs. With an extensive back catalogue that includes a release on the LA collective Soulection's imprint (as Kings in 2012) - as well as self-released album earlys & EPs that can all be found on his Bandcamp page - the 25-year-old Brixton resident has been winning admirers on his own terms whilst studying Sound Arts at the University Of The Arts London which offered him an escape from a year living homeless on the city's streets. The scope of Kxngs work on this EP draws on global travels, particularly Africa, as well as Deepak Chopra's ‘The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success’ - a book that Kxngs cites as having helped him "gain enlightenment and self-awareness, helping to not only focus on everyday life but also my creativity". The Earth Sign EP draws on Afrobeat, Kuduro, Hip-Hop, Trap and further influences from South America and the Middle East. This passion for exploring world cultures and to base his musical projects on his experiences with them informs all his work, and through basing his musical themes on different areas of the world Kxngs seeks to manifest his dreams and become author of his own story.Earth Sign will be the first release on Ex-Local - a new label born out of the London club night that shifts venue every party. With a core of local artists who became returning favourites that regularly had sweat pouring from the party's ceilings, the next logical step was to start a label to help bring this young, exciting & creatively adventurous new talent to wider recognition. First stop, Kxngs.

Having repeatedly proven himself to be one of the UK's most innovative rising producers, Impey returns with his debut EP, 'Midnight In Little Havana', on the critically acclaimed Astral Black imprint. The release follows his 'BangClap' single which comes off the back of two prolific years that have seen the 20 year old producer crafting soundscapes for viral campaigns for Converse, securing a residency on NTS, tearing up radio sets alongside the likes of Faze Miyake, and having the likes of Skepta, Trim, Capo Lee and Rocks FOE bless his instrumentals on sets from Slimzee, DJ Maximum, Kahn & Neek, Murlo and Plastician. 'Midnight In Little Havana' sees Impey serving up a diverse five track collection that showcase his versatile production skills drawing influence from Grime, Jersey club and Vangelis-esque synthscapes. The EP is as much for the dance floor as it is the after hours bus home. At its centre is long time crowd favourite 'Bleepz' which finally sees its official release, having been a go-to track exclusively for DJs such as Boofy & Hi5Ghost and Kromestar. The track is framed by 130bpm dance floor melters 'Pep Talk' and 'Pong Song' as well as showing Impey's more intricate side through its title track and 'Inner', both of which resemble Astral Black releases by the likes of Drae Da Skimask and Jaisu moreso than its club-focussed vinyl releases. 'Midnight In Little Havana' is presented visually with another stellar effort from Astral Black in-house designer Oscar Whale; the 12" being housed in a full colour sleeve depicting an illustration of Miami's Little Havana strip, as detailed & nuanced as Impey's productions. 'Midnight In Little Havana' is set for release on October 14th on 12" vinyl & digital via Astral Black.

Berlin-based Obstacle Records returns for its second release with another EP that draws on UK garage heritage while offering its own fresh take via a trio of newer names to watch out for. The EP’s original track comes from Lesus - a hitherto unknown name that splices its stripped down Ghost-esque rhythmic backbone with an uneasy chiming melody. The A2’s remix from Obi - another name to keep track of - retains the pace & 2step stylings of the original while combining it with a Chicago house sensibility. On the B side we find two alternate versions from the mysterious Prince of Ethiopia. The 808 version mutates the track into a old school hip hop instrumental, with the aforementioned 808 sounds to the fore, replete with vocal samples, record scratches and ray guns. The MT40 version takes those elements, loses the snarling bassline, and pins it all to a broken beat rhythm, once again underlining Obstacle’s reverence for UK dance music culture & its desire to push it into surprising new territory.

Fresh from the success of last years critically acclaimed PT 1 EP, Leeds-born Samir Alikhanizadeh aka Happa, is gearing up for the hotly anticipated release of PT 2, a 3 track EP and the second in a series of releases on his own label PT 5.Having first drawn attention with his tumbling remix of the Four Tet track Jupiters, it wasn’t long before he was heralded by the likes of Radio 1’s Mary Anne Hobbs, James Blake, Zed Bias and Skream, to name a few. Happa’s love for electronic sounds is no more evident than on his latest offering; surging ahead at a faster pace than PT 1, with nods to EBM and industrial along the way. Opening track Blackberreh! marks a sideways move away from its predecessors. With spikey glitches, pitch-bending beats and extra melodic attention paid, the track plays out across a dark soundscape, creating an all-embracing big room noise. Catch-22 takes things further with abrasive beats and aphotic vocals giving it a brutal, industrial quality, and acts as the perfect showcase for Happa’s wayward electronic tastes. Closing out the EP is Drag, a juggernaut of refracted beats, displaying admirable depth and a real techno assault. If PT 1 was the product of a young artist refining his sound, PT 2 is the bass-heavy, hypnotic call to arms of an artist with enough raw talent and perseverance to create something truly astounding.

Established Berlin based producer Carsten Aermes, aka PHON.O, delivers his latest EP ‘Afterglow’, bringing the Vorsprung Durch (to) Tectonic. Having dropped a number of acclaimed releases on Modeselektor’s dynamic imprint 50 Weapons over the last several years, PHON.O has also had a variety of singles and EPs for the likes of Kompact, Bpitch Control, Shitkatapult and Detroit Underground, as well as remixes galore.‘Mercurial’ kick starts the EP at 137bpm, melting the boundaries between techno, dubstep and footwork with effortless grace. The track sets a mood with an initial sense of ominous tension, before embarking on a strange, cosmic journey, narrated by polyrhythmic layers of percussive interplay. Kick drums bounce, snares crack, hats and the melody builds with mysterious intent.Flip over then for the first of two further tales in dubwise beat science. First up is ‘U8 Phunk’, taking it’s name in part from a Berlin underground metro line, it represents a tougher, harder edge to the EP. Recalling echo’s of jungle music alongside techno sensibilities, ‘U8 Phunk’ follows on again at 137bpm with a series of hyperactive drum hits and twisting percussive manoeuvres, charged with a reese-like bassline and grimy bass stabs.‘Bell Blender’ closes off the EP, further developing themes of broken breakbeats and grimy sci-fi atmospherics, this time at a tempo more accessible to techno dancefloors. Dubbed and spacious, smattered with crashing remnants of breakbeats and scorching synth sonics - it’s a fine way to round things off!

Deep and dark, strange but bold. ‘Salad Holder’ takes a more melancholic shift, turbo-charged with thunder-heavy subbass, dubwise flashes, moody pads and 5th dimensional synth lines. ‘The 4th Wall’ closes up the EP with oscillations from a parallel universe, diving through wormholes to a snapping rhythm.

In contrast, ‘Megalith’ has a pulsing gravity, drawing in laser-guided blasts of bass, broadsides of pitched-down jungle, and echoes of distant birdsong and telecommunications as it journeys through the static of space.

The EPs four tracks - “Scatter”, “Give Love”, “Shots” and “Pin Point” - represent a very focused cluster, taking both the building blocks and the essence of early 90s hardcore and jungle and imploding them at house ‘n' garage tempo. On dance floors, as witnessed by sets at Keysound Sessions in Peckham, Fabric and Outlook festival, they create a strange paradox of both percussive impact but also extreme, almost arresting disorientation. Despite its strobe-like, almost ravey feel, the vinyl artwork depicts subatomic particle scattering. The universe's DNA gets rewired in beautiful loops and curves just like rave's base pairs were sent into a disorientated spin by junglists.

After a trio of vinyl EPs and a cult 2012 double debut album the clan disappeared to regroup. Now in 2015 they have emerged with an EP of dark rolling beats featuring Hackney's legendary Ragga Twins. In true clan style, the Ragga Twins vocals were less recorded, more unearthed from an unlikely source dating back many years. The Hackney jungle pioneers gave LHF their blessing and the EP was born. The vinyl art, shot by Keysound photographer Nico Hogg, was shot in the heart of the 2011 London Riots. Consisting of core and satellite sounds, LHF have built an alternate sonic platform upon which they can operate freely; familiar in essence but essentially an unknown quantity – harbouring both ghostly memories and echoes of past underground movements since faded as well as glimpses of what might be.

The “Club Mix” draws on tribal House energy: a sweltering rhythm built of Latin percussion, Linndrum funk and pumping subs, over which melody gradually unravels in bursts of stark, juicy colour. Synths form a sensual narrative, remaining ever poised even as their pulpy goo engulfs all surfaces. This is intimate club music that brings a new kind of intensity to dance floors. Meanwhile, the “Sour Mix” is saturated and dripping with bitter-sweet nectar. This version sees “Papaya” transformed into an opulent bedroom jam, complete with quaking kickdrums and purring Moog bassline. A halftime drum kit of dumpster-drive 808s keeps things gritty while melodic goo leaks from between all the cracks.

‘Next Life' is a compilation of new material from Chicago's primary footwork crew, Teklife, carrying the torch for the late, great DJ Rashad, who passed away earlier in 2014. Packed to the limit with hyper-kinetic rhythms and manically chopped samples, there is nothing quite like this disc of pure energy currently in circulation. Not only does this album feature some of footwork's originators such as RP Boo, Traxman, DJ Spinn, Gantman, Manny and DJ Rashad himself, but it's also loaded with the elite of Teklife's second wave, DJ Earl, Taye, Boylan, Phil, Taso, Sirr Tmo, Tre and Heavee, plus extended members of the Teklife family from around the USA (Durban, Tripletrain, DJ Chap) and Europe (DJ Paypal, Jackie Dagger & Feloneezy), who were welcomed in by DJ Rashad & DJ Spinn while on their extensive travels spreading the footwork gospel.

DJ Rashad / Djunya / DJ Spinn / DJ Earl / Quarta 330 / Champion/ Ikonika etc.The second of the Decadub vinyl-only releases dedicates three of its four sides to a volley of woozy and twisted footwork from most of the key members of Chicago's Teklife crew. Side One starts with DJ Rashad and Gant Man's squiggly 303 banger 'Acid Life' and moves onto Taso & Djunya's Darwinian banger 'Only The Strong Will Survive'. Side Two descends into DJ Spinn's bombastic 'All My Teklife' and then Earl, Rashad & Taye's 'Bombaklot' which takes Hyperdub full circle with a yardcore bomb like a 2014 upgrade of the label's early days. Side Three leads with DJ Earl's immaculate diva vocal cut-up of 'I'm Gonna Get You', then moves on into DJ Taye's fizzling R&B jam 'Get Em Up’ and the stone cold, warped humour of 'Icemaster' by Heavee. On the fourth and final side, Tokyo-based ally Quarta330 returns to craft ‘Hanabi’, an epic, uptempo synthesiser jam. Young gun Champion follows with ‘Power Cut’, its minimal, energetic and militant kicks and bass molded with cowbell and lots of tight edits, before dropping some neat keys and a warping bassline two thirds in. Ikonika finishes things off with the solemn march of 'Tug Zone', opening slow but building in flickering high hats and gaseous cymbals into a track which could have emanated from Battlestar Galactica.

Following on from the release of Innershades' No Stopping EP on Creme Organization last summer, the Dutch label revisits the a-side cut "Nina" with two remixers in tow. Those remixers are Bristol's bass pioneer Kowton and the inimitable production duo of Tuff City Kids. Unterton and Delsin duo Gerd Janson & Phillip Lauer aka Tuff City Kids turn in a bulky, piano laced and acid riddled remix of "Nina" that is a pure party starter. Idle Hands and Hessle Audio man Kowton reworks "Nina" into something run through with plenty of sirens, raw, crunchy drum loops and rolling percussive lines. It's stormy and tumultuous and is full of frosty textures. These are two abrasive tracks designed for maximum impact on the dancefloor.
