Groove Line Records follows up the Change remix 12” from the summer with the latest instalment of our officially licensed disco remix 12”s. Next up are two exceptional disco remixes of The Salsoul Orchestra classics, “Tale of Three Cities” and “Tangerine”, by Mike Maurro, whose recent The Mike Maurro Peak Hour Remixes box set has cemented the New York producer’s reputation as one of the most respected disco remixers on the scene right now.Side A features “Tale of Three Cities” (Mike Maurro Disco Remix), one of The Salsoul Orchestra’s funkiest cuts, written by bass player Ron Baker for their debut LP. Maurro extends the arrangement to nine minutes, concentrating on the driving beat and rhythm section for the intro, subtly adding the guitar and keyboard parts before the first orchestral bridge at 1m36. Stripping back much of the orchestral elements throughout the mix he gives more space to the deftly executed solo guitar and keyboard passages and gives special attention to Vincent Montana’s vibes, taking the dancer on a beautiful journey through the Salsoul sound concluding with an instrumental, ethereal outro.Side AA features “Tangerine” (Mike Maurro Disco Remix), Vincent Montana’s skillfully rearranged version of the lilting Jimmy Dorsey pop standard which was the group’s biggest pop hit, also from their debut LP. Adding a further 6 minutes to the original version, again Maurro respectfully gives the orchestration more room to breathe over the propulsive rhythm section, gaining patient momentum throughout while exposing the best instrumental elements of the original and sprinkling just the right amount of The Sweethearts of Sigma’s vocal refrains on top. Both mixes were initially released on Groove Line’s 3CD 40th Anniversary Salsoul Orchestra Anthology as exclusive tracks. All Groove Line Records releases are fully licensed and cut at Half Speed by Matt Colton at Alchemy (Mastering Engineer of the Year 2013). All vinyl is heavy weight 180g manufactured by Optimal Media in Germany, one of the world’s finest pressing plants. Groove Line Records cut no corners when making sure that each and every one of our releases has the highest quality performance possible.Groove Line Records’ deluxe 12” release of The Salsoul Orchestra “Tale of Three Cities (Mike Maurro Disco Remix)” backed with “Tangerine (Mike Maurro Disco Remix)” is an essential purchase for any serious Disco, Funk, Soul or Dance vinyl collector who demands the very best in quality vinyl pressings.

Groove Line Records release the first in a series of officially licensed disco remix 12”s. Starting with two exceptional disco remixes of the Change classics, “It’s A Girl’s Affair” and “Searching”, by Mike Maurro, whose recent The Mike Maurro Peak Hour Remixes box set has cemented the New York producer’s reputation as one of the most respected disco remixers on the scene right now.As one of the most innovative dance groups of the early 1980s Change scored several , disco and pop hits including the number one disco classics, “A Lover’s Holiday” and “The Glow Of Love,” and helped launch the solo career of Luther Vandross due to his exceptional vocal performance on another of the group’s number one disco hits, “Searching.”Side A features “It’s A Girl’s Affair (Mike Maurro Disco Remix),” also included as an exclusive track on Groove Line’s 2CD Change Anthology Reach For The Sky from 2015. Originally released on the groups debut album The Glow Of Love from 1980, “It’s A Girls Affair” features the powerhouse vocals of the legendary Jocelyn Brown as she sends out a rallying call to the “girls” to take over the dance floors of the world above a dynamic, sophisticated euro dance groove complete with futuristic synth swells and dramatic breakdowns. The Mike Maurro Remix brings out all the best elements of the original recording creating a tight, punchy disco interpretation.Side B features “Searching (Mike Maurro Disco Remix),” the track famed for introducing Luther Vandross’s velvet tones to a wider audience on both sides of the Atlantic. Regarded as the quintessential Vandross vocal performance “Searching,” also from debut album The Glow Of Love, heralded a new era in R&B/Dance due to both the fully realised melodic story of the lyric and the (at the time) unorthodox, rolling dance floor groove created by Change. Maurro employs his signature remixing styles to mesmerising effect here allowing the dancer to become immersed in the groove as each element is added at just the right time in order to keep propelling the track forward before every care is given to allow Vandross’s faultless and encapsulating vocal to take centre stage.

Groove Line Records are proud to add to their 2015 releases of half-speed mastered re-issuesingles with The Pointer Sister's classic 1980 tracks We've Got The Power and Evil, taken from the Richard Perry produced album Special Things. This is the first time We've Got The Power has been released on a 12” single. The genre defying female family vocal group The Pointer Sisters during a critically and commercially successful career took in country, jazz, blues, soul and funk to pop, disco, dance, electronic music and rock.Side A features the full length album version of the dance floor classic We've Got The Power. The track opens with beautiful, sweeping strings over a solid, engaging beat before showcasing the trio's natural, tight harmonies on the opening verse. June's bright, powerful, gutsy voice then takes centre stage on the lead vocal bridging the verse into the uplifting horn-led chorus on which her sisters join her to mesmerising effect. The sweeping string motif then makes a brief re-appearance before an even more impassioned second verse and chorus make way for the instrumental sequence. Alternating between a funky horn line and the sweeping strings the instrumental passage takes the track to even greater heights, effortlessly carrying the listener and/or dancer through to the final verse and cleverly extended final chorus as the track fades. The Pointer Sisters’ commanding, heartfelt vocal sound is perfectly suited to convey the song's theme of striving to retain innocence and positivity even in the face of life's many challenges.Side B features arguably The Pointer Sisters’ hardest hitting recording, the funk/rock track Evil. Helmed by a snarling June on lead vocals, ably assisted by her siblings. The song is centred round the evil character, “Pretty Poison,” whom the sisters are seeking to turn the tables on due to his love 'em and leave 'em attitude. Explosive from the outset the powerful, alternating guitar and horn lines, along with a driving funk bass set the tone for the duration of the track, only yielding for the verses. Expertly arranged to maintain the driving momentum throughout Evil boasts an incredible guitar solo from Paul Jackson, Jr. and a dextrous vocal scat sequence before the sisters layer their vocals over the progressive, expansive horn lines as the extended closing chorus fades, leaving you breathless after just over three minutes. Evil is a bona fide funk bomb. All Groove Line Records releases are fully licensed and taken from the original master tapes, remastered by Nick Robbins at Sound Mastering, and cut by Matt Colton at Alchemy (Mastering Engineer of the Year 2013) using half-speed mastering for optimum sound quality. All vinyl is heavy weight 180g manufactured by Optimal Media in Germany, one of the world’s finest pressing plants. Groove Line Records cut no corners when making sure that each and every one of our releases has the highest quality performance possible. Groove Line Records’ deluxe reissue of “We've Got The Power” and “Evil” is an essential purchase for any serious Disco or Funk vinyl collector who demands the very best in quality vinyl pressings.

Groove Line Records are proud to add to their 2015 releases of half-speed mastered re-issue singles with both the extended special disco version and instrumental version of Earth Wind & Fire's 1976 funk bomb Getaway gracing each side of a 180g 12” virgin vinyl disc. Looking to gain on his groups critical and commercial success from the early 1970s EW&F's main man Maurice White brought in the legendary Charles Stepney, who had tutored him at Chicago's Chess Records in the 1960s, as the co-producer and arranger on their incredible 1976 album Spirit, which opened up with the formidable funk track Getaway. Co-written by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Bernard “Beloyd” Taylor (S.O.U.L.) and songwriter Peter Corbelenky around the theme of escapism and self-fulfilment, the primal urgency of Getaway was the ideal composition for White to record with EW&F. White felt the song's energy and positive, uplifting lyrics matched the attitude and ethos of his group perfectly. As a result EW&F created a funk gem both musically and lyrically perfect for the dance floor.
