Lettera 22 is a creature of the worldwide noise underground. Composed of Second Sleep founder Matteo Castro (also known as Kam Hassah, Endless Sea and Mercury Hall) and Riccardo Mazza (recently responsible for a technoid outing on Ideal Recordings as RM), the duo has set to make use of sonic slag and explore polluted aural ambiences in their own personal way from day one. Their sound-sculpting techniques incorporates direct physical interaction with tape recorders and contact mics as well as digital effects and field recordings. Their main focus though, is the constant construction and deconstruction of a virtual space for sounds to interact in, manipulating reverb in a way as akin to musique concrete as to freakish dub-wise abstractions. Control The Ground is their first release for Haunter Records, recorded in the summer of 2015, inspired by war bulletins, radio transmissions and ghost stations.

In a way, Matthias Girardi’s second release for Haunter Records as Weightausend is a piece of speculative fiction, referencing horror by making its mechanics very evident, albeit clouded in electronic pot smoke. It is a 4 track EP on which every element of music is presented along its deformed replica. On “Green Death”, the dub-infused manipulation of sound through echo and reverb builds a space for the beat to traverse like a ghastly presence. Its companion “Drip Dub” version dims the light even more, adding echoes of videogame violence. On the other side, the cripple cinematics of “Meet Your Doom” bring on a tribal insurrection, with jungle extremist Christoph De Babalon’s remix of the track left to lurk after the massacre is consumed.

Argument #02 is Cage Suburbia’s second effort of 2014, and middle chapter of a planned trilogy of EPs. Acid, subversive and cyber-raw as ever, the duo’s news creative effort still dwells as far from conventional electronic studio production as possible. Totally improvised, recorded on one stereo track through one single take, it aims to channel a provocative, reactive force by sharpening techno and jungle’s harder edges. Basslines and grooves are turned into assault weapons, whose main goal is to reclaim pleasure and danger, to rob the information bank and liberate desire. The four tracks of the EP are all named after four tough port cities, four access points to the net and fractures between worlds: the initiation ground for a higher state of consciousness and a fiercer way of life.

Most of the time, plastic surgery is used to adapt one’s body to codified models of beauty. It is an instrument of conformity and social acceptance. Still, it is visible and becomes a signifier of social violence. At the same time, disaster can happen, through maniac obsession or sheer incompetence, and deform the subject’s body. That same deformity can also be sought and refined, used to shape a new form of beauty, to turn the body into an aesthetic battlefield. Turin-based producer Francesco Coia AKA Oddrgrad approaches his music with this same attitude, injecting it with kitsch signifiers which then get chomped, distorted, deformed and turned into pieces of raw, aggressive expressiveness. Fake, prosthetic replicas of house and hip-hop rhythmic tropes transform his sound into a monstrous, disruptive form of pop-concréte. His second release and first from Haunter, Hardcore Plastic Surgery comes with two original tracks and three remixes: one by Haunter’s own Heith, one by Gang Of Ducks’ genius weirdo Haf Haf, and one by mysterious newcomer |||.
