Round up part IV marks the end of year 4 of Heist Recordings and it might be our most varied release yet with some serious Afro funk from Switzerland, electronic soul from Italy, proper old school deep house from the UK and some Dutch guys adding a bit of swing to the package. For those unfamiliar with our annual concept release: The Round Up is a release where each artist that has released this year gets remixed by another Heist artist from that same year. We put all the names in a big hat, and draw straws. The result: 6 different remixes from 6 of the most intriguing original tracks of the year, in a deluxe 180 gram 2x12” pack.Fouk had the honor to rework one of the most euphoric tracks ever to come out on Heist and certainly one of Nachtbraker’s most party-oriented tracks ever: Hamdi. They flipped the original into a rhodesy afro-tinged jam filled with lovely bleeps and fx and some great work on the keys. The DS remix of Parker Madicine’s Heartbreaker is just as dreamy as it is driving, making full use of their synth-cave with an ever-evolving Moog bassline and some great pads on the Arp Odyssey.Alma Negra’s Blacksoul remix of Nebraska’s Big Plate Chicken takes the full B side and rightly so. The African drums, chants and looped sampling the original’s bleeps give a great groove, but the track really comes alive when the bassline kicks in.The second 12” gives room for Nachtbraker’s Swing mix of Can’t Hold it, where he lets loose a trippy, sample heavy track with a dustier ambience than your grandmother’s living room. Turn it over and you’ll find Parker Madicine jazzing up Afrorleans and Nebraska throwing in a classic deep house touch on his remix for Fouk. All and all, we’ve got a greatly diverse, sexy and club-ready package on this fourth Round Up. We hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do.

One of our highlights of last year was Nebraska's ‘Soften the wireless' EP, with disco stomper Khan's Bargain, and an amazing Tom Noble remix. Since then, we've seen him take on quite a few live shows again, playing at Claire during ADE, and Concrete for our label showcases. He's also managed to find a bit of time to focus on his fresh (new and cool) edit label ‘Friends and Relations'. Luckily, since we've been nagging him to do a new EP for Heist just enough for him to still like us, and more than enough for him to want to get it over with, we've gotten our hands on another set of amazing tunes. So we're happy to present his amazing music, nicely packaged in one handy record for your listening pleasure: the ‘Metaphor to the floor' EP. You'll feel a hint of that Nebraska classic ‘This is the way' on the lead track ‘Affirmation', with its subtle build up and release of energy, looping vocals, and dramatic chords. Aglio e Olio is not only a simple yet tasty Italian dish with of just 5 ingredients, it's also quite the track on this EP, equalling the dish in terms of simplicity and strength. Snares on the 1, Clavi style hits and a loose arrangement give this track a great funk - house crossover appeal. On the flip, we've got fellow Londoner Laurence Guy, who just released an amazing album on the equally cool ‘Church'. His version of Aglio e Olio is a dreamier excursion with filtered pads, acidey licks and more than enough balls in the low end to get you movin' in your dim-lit club of choice. The ep's final track sees Nebraska turning the energy up a notch or 2 (or 3), with ‘Big plate chicken'. It's the sort of track you would imagine Omar S. producing if he would be just a bit whiter, and a bit more British. Whatever that means. Yours Sincerely, Maarten & Lars.

Across the street from where Trouw used to be, lies a nice little hotel. It was in the basement of this hotel, where a curious meeting happened. Something so coincidental and so unassumingly trivial, that even the slightest event of randomness could have prevented this from ever happening, yet it did happen and here we are. This curious meeting was the result of an open studio door of Nachtbraker, and the hint of disco coming out the door, where Dr. San Proper just happened to pass by in search of whatever it is he searches for at 10 am on a Tuesday. The good doctor decided to walk in, greeted Nachtbraker in his ordinary weird way and casually grabbed a microphone. Nachtbraker pressed record, Dr. Proper got his inner Mick Jagger on, and behold: Misses, madame, mademoiselle was born.

We're back from hibernation after releasing the third Roundup at the end of 2016 and we're starting off with a new signing. Milan based Parker Madicine joins Heist with some high tech funk with a serious nod to the “D” and we've got Byron the Aquarius delivering a great jazzy remix. You'll be more likely to find Parker Madicine browsing through boxes of old jazz and soul records than you'll see him showcasing his social media skills. He's a real vinyl junky and moreover a hip hop fanatic and probably loves his synthesizers more than his mother. Apart from promoting funk and soul oriented parties in Milan, he founded CT-HI records, short for “Contemporary Theories of Hip Hop Influences". A few years back he teamed up a.o. with his buddies Veez-O and Turbojazz to create some Dilla and early 90's inspired hip hop and these influences are clearly present in his EP for Heist. With Heartbreaker, he lays down a dreamy but heavy groove for the first minute or so, arpeggiating its way to the moment where the airy pads make room for a looser than loose groove where synth stabs and bass line dance around each other creating a killer vibe. Zawinul starts in the same manner, rough kick, loose and degraded hi-hats and dreamy Rhodes chords. The tracks build further with some lovely brassy hits and arps, whereas Placebo is the most stripped back but high tempo track, where an airy and delayed bassline does most of the work to set the mood. We're really happy to have Byron the Aquarius reworking one of PM's tracks. He's been on a roll with his releases on Sound Signature, Wild Oats and recently remixed Max Graef on Ninja Tune. It was in Placebo where Byron found the most fruitful ground to showcase his magic on the keys, flipping the contemplative origina

Detroit Swindle cap off a blazing summer as they return home to their own Heist Recordings and in doing so present a landmark 12″ to add to their blooming catalogue. This is their first addition to the label since the hugely successful ‘In Reverse’ EP and it comes as a package that fans both old and new will relish: a jubilant record melding the most grooveladen strands of Disco, Funk, Soul and House. Oh yeah…and to top it all off, the guys have collared one of the greats for a remix in the one and only Matthew Herbert. 2016 has brought with it a wide range of experiences and subsequent influence for Detroit Swindle as they’ve continued on their ascent. This has certainly added further colour to their musical output as the pair have snowballed through a Heist Recordings Boiler Room showcase, a recent mix for Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide series, a live tour through the USA and dj highlights include sets at Prince Charles Berlin, Concrete Paris and Star Festival in Kyoto. The ‘Circular city’ EP evinces this as it brings together tracks for varying dancefloor moments and comes rounded off with a typically inventive remix from one of House Music’s most extolled veterans. Matthew Herbert’s remix adds a certain poppy flair to the original as it laces Zilla’s sassy croon with mangled synth blobs and hypnotic, circling samples, rounding off a serious coup for Heist Recordings and a fine addition to the catalogue.

They say all good things comes in threes, and with the marking of Nachtbraker’s 3rd release for Heist, we can confirm this universal truth once again. Maurits Verwoerd comes back to Heist with more dancefloor muscle than ever before, and shows us great development of his sound: while keeping his unconventional drum patterns and love for the deeper side of house, he adds some filtered funk flavor along the way. ‘Gotta act to react’ drives on a saturated bassline, a hypnotizing guitar lick and some seriously loose hi-hats, but really delivers once those hard to place filtered hits come in. ‘Pollo con Pollo’ is potentially Maurits’ most clear attempt at a straightforward groove, with a lovely dreamy guitar loop running throughout the track. Add his loose sense of arrangement and changeovers, and it’s still anything but straightforward. The B- side gets nice and weird with 2 versions of Intermezz(l)ow, the one being a lovely textured interlude and the other a rough drum workout built around the same theme. When we asked Maurits who he wanted to have as a remixer, he suggested he’d do a remix himself. We knew better than to argue with him, and since he is who he is, we’re not entirely surprised he came up with a great dubbed out acid-tinged flip of ‘Gotta act to react’. This EP really shows Nachtbraker’s steady rise and will most likely take him out of the shadows he so enjoys, into headline territory and we’re glad to support him in this journey. Sincerely yours, Lars & Maarten

This record is the most important promo tool of Leipzig’s own M.ono in his grand scheme to conquer the world with his supersecret cocktail named, Die Volle Schnauze. All flavours and 17 secret ingredients of this wonderful drink come together in the 4 tracks of this EP. So if you’re digging the forward groove and jumping keys of Volle schnauze, The ’shit-is-the-sun-already-coming-up?’ vibe of Perle, the dancing arps of Delaware state route and the freaked out acid of Pegasus ‘83, you’ll surely like the cocktail. Nachtbraker is back on Heist after his 2013 Gute Laune EP with another set of his dreamy laid back sound filled with lovely textures, rolling synths and always interesting and evolving arrangements. Whether it’s ‘Dark Roast’ (bonus points for the vocal hihats and ooooh that bassline), the haunting electronics meet sugar sweets pads on ‘Gurl’, the triplet marching band hihats on ‘Le troubadour’ or the insane amount of elements working together on ‘You’re out of your element’, it’s all equally deep, energetic and extremely well though of.
