Tracks by Chez Damier, Abacus, James Duncan, Jacksonville & Satore! Keep on keeping on, that’s what they say. We are here at Hizou. So we are delighted to be back with this the ninth release on our main label, another exciting various artists affair and a follow-up to the well-received limited edition EP, Keepin’ The Legacy. First up is the house music equivalent of a heavyweight tag-team in the shape of respected veterans Chez Damier and Abacus, producers with credentials so impressive and lengthy it’s eye-watering, alongside the rising talent that is Jorge Caiado (Balance/Groovement). The trio’s dub mix of their cut Close is proper deep-down-and-dirty bumpin’ house of the old-school kind.Another man with an impeccable pedigree, in-demand musician and producer James Duncan (Le Systeme/Real Soon), makes a welcome return to the label with the hypnotic 416 Zone Dub, an irresistible groover aimed squarely at the more discerning dance floor.Making his debut here at Hizou is yet another seasoned artist, Jacksonville, owner of Doppler Records and gun-for-hire with the likes of Atmospheric Existence and Inner Shift. Having eyed his chugging and infectious Twilight Industries from afar, we are delighted to finally nail it onto our vinyl.Keeping the fire burning and more than holding his own in such fine company is label head Satore, who unleashes his inner disco diva with the groovy, soul- drenched Keep On.

Chicago, Chicago. It’s our spiritual home here at Hizou. The city’s musical influence and legacy shine brightly and proudly throughout our label. Perhaps never more so than on our latest release from enigmatic native Chicagoan, Spirit Of The Black 808. Having inherited his brother’s seminal record collection at a young age and name-checking Larry Heard, Theo Parrish and Malik Pittman amongst his key influences, Sprit Of The Black 808 is steeped in the traditions we adore. His debut EP for us soundly testifies to that. Title-track Infroduction is a shuffling, slo-mo jam laden with atmosphere and groove in the mould of the great Mahogani Music and KDJ, a little more Detroit by design perhaps then, whereas by contrast Electronic Love is downright and unashamedly classic Chicago. Layers of melody and a super-deep groove are stamped all over I FunKd Up, whilst ethereal uptempo tool Rough Joint completes the package.

Legend is a word that is overused and often misused but it is truly the only one to describe the latest most-welcome addition to the Hizou Music family, the one and only Rick Wade. The deep house pioneer from small-town Michigan – less than an hour from Chicago’s South Side – in truth needs little introduction thanks to celebrated releases on labels such as Trackmode, Moods & Grooves and, of course, his own much-lauded Harmonie Park imprint. So we are especially proud that the veteran DJ and producer debuts on Hizou with a stunning four-track release that pays tribute to the Motor City where he first made his name as a DJ. The Detroit Fury EP is classic Rick Wade: deep, driving, emotional and full of soul. Although the clue may be in the title, opening track Disco Jazz is much more than that; it is warm, melodic house at its finest. Gambit is simply so effortlessly smooth, a slow-burning cut that heats up nicely. Detroit Time is strictly for the floor, a pacey and punchy number made to make you move, while the delightful Heavy is an eminently groovy finish to a fine EP.

You could say we are excited about our new release here at Hizou Music. Very excited. Because with out heart and soul rooted in the heritage, history and tradition of house music we are especially proud to welcome two producers into the fold whose pedigrees match our vision perfectly, Chicago’s very own Brian Harden and Ellery Cowles (aka Wavelength).Aptly entitled The Collective, the EP features three cuts from Cowles and one from Harden. The former first came to the attention of dance music lovers via a slew of high-octane techno releases back in the nineties, notably for the Djax-Up-Beats imprint. Although having clearly mellowed since those early days, on the evidence of his trio here Cowles has lost nothing of his power and drive even if the emphasis has now shifted more to melody, mood and the funk. Fierce, sassy and outrageously uplifting is the only way to describe paean to ‘my man’, Joy Of My Life. The Power is similarly brash and bold though lyrically darker, whilst Jazz Juice is a fantastically punchy percussion-drive workout.Harden, who grew up on a staple diet of jazz from the likes of Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock coupled with the sounds of the burgeoning house scene of his hometown during the mid-80s, did not cut his teeth on labels such as Relief Records, Moods & Grooves and Nite Life Collective for no reason. His contribution here, The Drive, shows us exactly why; infectious, groove-heavy, jazz-inspired house of the highest order.

We are deeply proud of all our music here at Hizou. Our latest release, however, we believe is just that little bit special. Because we welcome to the label a producer we much admire and also proudly call our friend, W & P Hgg [aka Hugo Giner], owner of the formidable Cornuta Sound imprint. And his EP, Down For Heaven, is notable also for marking the debut of a new partnership, the Sons of Empire, otherwise known as those two masters of the deep, Ernie from Minuendo Recordings and Dubbyman of Deep Explorer. It is Giner’s Unique Soul, however, that takes centre stage with side one devoted entirely to its 13 minutes of glorious, irresistible and uplifting house odyssey. On the reverse comes Welcome, a chunkier though equally hypnotic slab of sly deepness, ably supported by the Sons of Empire remix which takes the track to a more chilled and, dare we say, funkier celestial plane.
