The Holic Trax label started in 2012 by DJ and producer Tomoki Tamura now extends its legs into a new series that focuses on the many different shades of house music from producers new and old. Coming in two parts on limited run vinyl, each track was A&Red by the boss himself and the results are hugely entertaining. Part one offers four tracks, the first from Micha Klang & Kuroneko. The pair’s If I Were You is a shuffling, jazzy chord laced house number with plenty of authentically aged sounding elements bristling next to each other. Rico Casazza then offers Rollin, a much more ducking and diving house track with trilling, incidental keys and a free flowing jazz energy. The flip sees JMF go deep and tough like might Bicep, with big sandy hits and surfing drums demanding you dance.

Monoklo is a new sub label of Holic Trax that focuses on darker, deeper techno and house sounds, away from the more groovy and soulful offerings of the well established main label. After the success of the first release by Ivan Iacobucci, which saw support from the likes of Arpiar, Vidionquest & Laurent, the label now enlists Martin Lewis for three hot tracks featuring a remix from label boss man and Japanese don Tomoki Tamura. Lewis is a Berlin based DJ and live set specialist who has been collecting vinyl all his life. He blends together his life's worth of influences into off kilter dance music that has impressed those who matter. It comes on labels like Exploited and Hollic Trax as well as Freebase Records and this newest release is the latest in a long line of success for the man. No nonsense opener 'The Wax' is a supple, rubbery roller with sparse stabs accompanying the infectious groove. Bubbly and restless and littered with odd voices and scurrying little bacterial sounds, it is a fun yet functional way to kick off the EP. The brilliantly dream like 'Poetry' then sinks down into a more warming and human groove, with smeared synths bringing colour and heat to a loose house groove. The final excellent original is 'Drumcatch,' which is a choppy techno track with stormy solar winds and reflective hi hats glistening above a jumbled drum line. There are some old school, rave signifiers along the way that help make it all the more charming, and this is the track that Tomoki Tamura also remixes. His version is stripped right back to a suggestive, infectious final groove with feather light percussion, skewed chords and involving sub bass that laps at the heels of the track. This new sub label is as fresh as exciting as Holic Trax itself yet offers something slightly different for DJs and dancers everywhere.

Holic Trax has established itself as a respected, no nonsense outlet for quality house and techno and that carries on here with a new EP from Keita Sano that comes on a limited edition run of coloured vinyl. Keita Sano is based in Okayama, Japan and has previously released on labels such as NYC's Mister Saturday Night and Hugo Capablanca's Discos Capablanca. Here he presents his latest single for the ever excellent Holic Trax in raw and excellent fashion. Up first, 'Flowers From Your Grave' is a gritty number with tough drums, Detroit inspired pads and plenty of physicality in the groove. Crisp and dynamic, it's a robust house cut, for sure. 'Let's Stay Together' is a more party sounding offering with atmospheric ambience in the back ground as streaming Rhodes chords and organic percussion set a Moodymann style vibe front and centre. Then comes 'Night Walking', which flips the script again, this time sinking down into a warm, propulsive deep house vibe with bold but soft edged chords, driving drums and engaging hand claps. Lastly, vinyl only cut 'Exit' is a prickly, raw and frazzled acid number with phased basslines, panning 303 squelches and plenty of wallop in its bones. This is a fine EP that is sure to make a big impact on the dance floor.

Influential house label Holic Trax is launching a new sub series here with a debut EP from Ivan Iacobucci entitled Monoklo 1. The sub label, also call Monoklo, will showcase a deeper, darker house sound that focusses on the dance floor and sees all material selected by the boss, Tomoki Tamura. Behind this first EP is Italian Ivan Iacobucci, who has been producing since the '90s on Nite Grooves, King Street, Smoke Joke and many others. Influenced by everything from jazz to Detroit techno, afro cuban beats to pure funk, he has a truly fresh approach to sound. Up first, 'Router' is a deep, bubbly house track with corrugated drums and dusty hi hats. Spooky synths add a sense of space and depth and it's an intimate way to kick off the EP. 'Anorak' is another deep cut with warm and cuddly vibes pervading to bubbly, soft edge drums and captivating rhythms. Filled with organic textures and rich with a human feel, the cut sucks you right in from the off. Vinyl only cut, 'De Mai Sus' then rocks back and forth with deep, bubbly basslines, streaming sci-fi melodies and kinetic percussive patterns that are subtle but that really bring the funk. All analogue sounding and dynamic from the ground up, it's a spaced out and emotive house cut that will make you feel as well as dance.

This february Nightdrivers deliver three first-rate cuts on Holic Trax for the 'Quando Party Dove Vai ?' EP. Following on from Burnski's 'The Hours' EP which saw love from names like Mr G, Catz 'N' Dogz, Detroit Swindle and Eats Everything, Holic Trax returns this February with Nightdrivers' 'Quando Party Dove Vai ?'. Since delivering their debut release on Bosconi Records back in 2013 the Berlin-based duo Nightdrivers have been going from strength to strength stacking up further releases on Claap, their own Nightdrivers label and now Holic Trax. To get things underway the light pads of 'Resta Pure Dove Sei' give the opening track a floaty quality while the weighty percussion and subtle rhythms build proceedings into a steady and infectious groove. Nightdrivers appear to go up a gear as the EP progresses with the rippling drums and dynamic arrangements of 'La Ronde Suite (But Not For Me)' while 'Fast Cars' maintains the lively vibe of its predecessor and frenetically bubbles along over busy modulations, wacky intonations and infectious licks to dish up a suitably punchy close to this bouncy EP.

Analogue machine loving Sierra Sam is probably best know as a techno specialist but this EP - made up of original tracks that were first produced 15 years ago - showcases his house music side and does so in some style. One new edit comes from Sierra Sam in cahoots with Tamura, and the label head also turns out a great DJ tool edit to complete the package.

Berlin based cohorts Ekkohaus and Rufus (also part of Tru West and Nightdrivers) consummate their friendship with this four-track mission statement that deals in gutsy house music with a range of moods to suit every corner of the night. "Studer" is a cheeky cut with jazzy key flurries and a fulsome bassline squelch, while "Pagan" takes a tougher route into heavy delay feedback and pure rhythmic intensity. "The End Of An Ear" is a playful beast that takes off-key melodies and oddball noises and works them into a moody, heavy grooving context, while "Peace & Reflection" pushes the swing past the brink for a leftfield house jam that sounds liable to fall apart at any minute, in a good way of course.
