Recondite returns to Hotflush with two unique techno narratives forged in his inimitable style. Since 2014’s smash, ‘Caldera’, the prolific producer has released two studio albums, as well as a string of notable EPs for the likes of Innervisions, Dystopian and Life & Death. At once subtle and grand, ‘Phalanx / Warg’ sees Recondite exploring the full range of his distinctive voice. Deep, sinewy techno set with a genuine sense of intrigue, both cuts flood the dance floor with an unsettling warmth.

Recondite marks his return to Hotflush with the epic, potentially summer-defining 'Caldera' and a sequel to his 2012 hit 'DRGN'. The Bavarian artist has undergone a dazzling rise since that time, and one which is reflected in the increasing opulence of his music. "Caldera", with its dramatic arpeggios and crescendos, is unabashed big-field decadence. Bearing all the hallmarks on which he's made his name - space, subtlety, build, attention to timbre - over the course of 9 minutes it raises the temperature to white heat. "DRGN 2" picks up exactly where its 2012 namesake left off; that is, with an arching melody played out over droning tones of insidious intent. Dark, imposing and elegant - this is Recondite at his most wicked.

Foreboding title, foreboding sounds. Berlin’s redoubtable Oliver Deutschmann joins the Hotflush roster with "In The Moment of Death We Have No Regret”. 3 club-ready weapons, one blissed-out ambient cut. Do we really need to describe them in flowery prose? No. Just listen and play. Loud.

Armed with found sound snips and a siege mentality, Mt Kimbie set about turning London’s ambience into rhythm, its chaos into coherence. The band’s sound and response to the dubstep moment is very much their own. Sceneless and untethered from etiquette and genre codes, 'Crooks & Lovers' floats through dubstep and hip-hop, jazz, techno and ambient, post-rock, UK garage and film scores to startling effect.

Hotflush welcome Lara Wehbie aka Blursome to the ranks with her debut EP “Rendition of You”. Raised in North Carolina and currently residing in Brooklyn, Wehbie has come a long way since beginning to work on music in 2011 as a way of channeling her diagnosed depression and anxiety. She describes her work as a transitional darkness, something she says defined her sound even before she could manage the software she uses to make it. In her own words, “Rendition of You EP signifies major transitions in my life over the past year and how my environment truly played a role in handling situations. It's a testament to how much happier I am now than I used to be. I still struggle but I'm truly thankful for the influences I have around me that have made me a better individual and artist.” Along the way she has attended the Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp in 2015, and after an appearance on Scuba's 2016 fabric mix, she debuts on the label with an experimental six track EP.Side A of "Rendition of You" introduces listeners to her experimental use of vocals and heavy percussive influences from the left field genre. Side B dives straight into dance floor material with pounding kicks and and interjecting vocals, but then slowly winds down into a more melancholic ending with piercing synths rattling through to the last drop.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Brazillian-born Daniela Caldellas returns to Hotflush Recordings with‘Misantropicalia’, a three track EP, with each one showing different facets of her influences, further enriching her identity as TERR.Picking up where last April’s ‘Burn The Past’ EP left off, TERR continues to develop what is becoming her retro-futurist signature. The unmistakable footprint of electro, as well as a palpable nostalgia for the early ‘80s, is present throughout. The title track perhaps even betrays a whiff of italo or hi-NRG with its Moroder-esque bass and silky guitar licks, before moving into pure body-popping, linoleum dancefloor territory on the B-side. OutRun is an invitation to do the robot worm best heard on a portable ghetto blaster, while Don’t Look Around rounds off the 12” in galvanizing style with hints of electroclash in fractured, fleeting vocals and beats of the fat variety. ‘Misantropicalia’ shows TERR with her influences on her sleeve, and her gaze fixed firmly forwards.

Hotflush are proud to welcome an exciting new talent to the roster. Her name is Or:la and she arrives at her debut 12” already boasting a formidable reputation as a DJ and promoter in the UK - her long-standing Meine Nacht party is Merseyside’s finest and her appearances on WHP line-ups are turning heads. The 12” in question is ‘UK Lonely’ - a four track EP that flaunts enviable range and seems to contradict the producer’s youthful years. In it she covers a broad spectrum of past and contemporary influences spanning garage, Afrobeat, breaks and dubstep. The A-side is punchy yet elegant: vocal cut-ups drift through off-beat percussions in title track ’UK Lonely’, while riddims and melodies weave in and out of each other on an exotic ‘Limbosoup’. The B-side is more contemplative: ‘X & O’ recalls the wistful vocals and layers them over aughties breakbeats before ’Jaipur’ rounds off this opening salvo in delicate and playful fashion, hinting at things to come.

Following the release of his debut album as Trevino earlier this year, Marcus ‘Intalex’ Kaye marks his first notch on the Hotflush bedpost with a plucky four-track EP, wearing all the stripes that an artist of his experience and versatility has earned.Kaye’s four-to-the-floor productions as Trevino have always possessed a latent sheen from the dynamic world of drum and bass where he first made his name. Here it’s evident in the impeccably balanced mix of lead track, ‘Slide Away’, where forlorn melody is driven as much by bass as it is by liquid chords. The tempo is upped on ‘Mosaic’ - a techno record that follows an uplifting path - and on Desecrate it’s in fifth gear with a bass line that rolls and grows and bangs and rolls. The high-speed, echo chamber dub of ‘Jungle Love' rounds off an EP of notable range.

The fourth Hotflush release of 2017 comes from Minneapolis-based DJ and producer, TML. He made his debut in 2014 with One Inch of Water, an album in cassette form via Always Human Tapes. His style takes cues from the bass and jungle halcyon days of yore, yet in his hands these influences are pestled into anything but nostalgia. No Memory looks forward to a place where pigeonholes don’t exist; where past, present and future boil an amalgamated stew; where ‘experimental' and ‘clubby' aren’t effective antonyms. It’s an album in miniature - six tracks spanning a broad range. The unmistakable taste of jungle pervades side A, becoming increasingly less abstract as it goes: from the fractured opening of 'Face Pads’, through the dub of ‘Cold Sleep’, to the sunrise head bang that is ‘Crying’. Side two moves inside. It’s darker there. The tunes - ’Strainer’, ‘RHU’ and ‘Code Library’ - share a paredbackness. Their beats look askance as they shuffle big and bold.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Hotflush are proud to introduce an exciting young artist, PYUR, along with her singular debut LP Epoch Sinus. Despite her relative newness, PYUR meets the world with fully formed and unique signatures in both visual and sonic work, revealing a deep artistry that transcends medium.Growing up in Munich, in and amongst the same fecund scene that spawned artists like the Zenker Brothers and Skee Mask, PYUR cut her teeth from a young age as a guitarist and singer before becoming spellbound by the electronic worlds endless scope for sound design. Endowed with innately strong synaesthesia and reared in a shamanic household, she tells how music “played the biggest role in my growth. It alone had the purpose to help me dissolve boundaries, discover the beauty of lifes mechanisms, create freely. It talked. Soon I felt like the music was making me, not the other way round.”Epoch Sinus is a seamless and heartfelt whole, a life-like being unto itself, describing the disintegration of barriers between the self and the all. Here PYUR offers an intimate and personal statement, combining knowledge of universal harmony with electronic music. She states: “I'm mainly influenced by my inner visions and nature itself, yet also a lot from club culture, which is undoubtedly an important space of connection and freedom for so many people”. The record dances playfully between supposedly incompatible qualities: moments of brutality turn to softness, new life embraces decomposition, while explosive rhythmic and melodic structures are tempered with gentle and subtle percussion. The album is accompanied by a video piece for each track, translating the sonic messages into a visual body. Her goal was to show as accurately as possible what she felt during the making process of Epoch Sinus, to put the music into context and make it more accessible for the public. Light, water, reflections and colors of nature all feature strongly in these distinctive visions.“Music showed me that, in the sweet spot between nothingness and existence, one is empowered to fully understand energetic connections and able to initiate extraordinary transformations through all grids and layers of self. Especially now at this time music has the enormous potential and responsibility to become a transformative entity, providing truthfulness and support.”

Scuba’s entry in the revered fabric mix series features four debut-making artists, three of whom - Isaac Reuben, Glaskin, Blursome - feature on the present sampler 12” alongside the already-emerging talent of Tallmen785.Together they cover a rich gamut of style. Tallmen’s gear-shifting opener - a charge of the techno brigade replete with live drum fills - leads into Blursome’s compact, broken, nocturnal outcry. Isaac Reuben then messes with structure and genre, bringing deep house tropes into a lofi, rough and raw world before Glaskin blow the door wide open right at the very end to reveal their cavernous, ultra deep field. You’ll be hearing a lot from all of them on Hotflush in the coming months, so for now let the music break the ice.

Paul Woolford returns to Hotflush with ‘Mother & Child’, his third solo outing on the label following the inescapable anthems, ‘Untitled’ and ‘MDMA’.‘Mother & Child’ sees Woolford explore a different style and more cultivated mood. Comprised of two variations on a theme, the lead cut combines both sostenuto and clipped strings in an overarching and evolving melody. There’s a sense of menace and foreboding, yet the record’s heart belongs, as ever, strongly to Woolford’s home turf - the dance floor. This newfound contemplative air is brought to the fore on ‘Mother & Child Divided' as he strips back all rhythmic elements to leave a beautifully sprawling tapestry of strings and synths; alluring, dramatic and cinematic in scope. One hopes this mother and child find each other again...

Next up to add his sounds to the ever impressive Hotflush cannon is Argentina’s Shall Ocin. He serves up The Cliff/The Mist, a two track EP that showcases his knack for infectious groove in all its glory. The man born Nicolas Abalos has released music under a number of aliases over the last decade plus, but it is as Shall Ocin that he has had most success. Putting out music on labels like Culprit and Ellum Audio, he has established himself amongst contemporary tastemakers and here cements his reputation with a great debut on Hotflush.Opening the account is the excellent ’The Cliff,’ a steely main room house track with grinding synths that roam and whir about above weighty bass. It’s a physical, arresting track that brims and bristles with apocalyptic fervour and will truly work crowds into a lather as it continues to build. ‘The Mist’ is much more in your face, with malfunctioning machines smeared about above metal drums. It’s a real writhing monster that twists and turns with great filter work making for the most dramatic of atmospheres. This texturally rich, maximalist EP makes a fine new singing for the UK label and is another great entry into Ocin’s increasingly essential discography.

Auden’s third EP sees the shadowy producer stride familiar lengths of eclecticism while dipping into fresh sources of inspiration. The title track yearns for the glory days of UK Rave with its sunrise chords overlaying broken beats and drops of acid. The homage is all but shorn on Alan Fitzpatrick’s remix as he contemporises it into a techno bomb with a breakdown to remember. Scuba's Phenix triptych reveals its final panel. A bite-size story in and of itself, and a fitting end-part to the greater sum, 3 feels like the latest acme of a diverse career. This is traditional beginning-middle-end story-telling: ‘Silence’'s call-and-response foretells of a blue funk ahead - funk in the figurative - as ‘Nineteen Eighty’ transposes old Chicago into an ad rem context. The disquiet continues on the other side, with ‘Plateau’'s exacting techno pulse underscoring astral synth work. Tempo and temperature are pushed to an extent worthy of the resolution ‘Fade’ provides with its informal pace, acoustic disposition and celestial chimes.

South London Ordnance marks his sophomore Hotflush release with an extended four-track EP that confidently flaunts his flair for brooding atmosphere. Dark, punchy basslines informed by a distinctly UK heritage are his signature and they bind these wee-hour refrains with brassy continuity. From the futurist synthesis of lead-track “Contact” through the jungle influences pervading “Sabre” and “Ritual to Romance” to the whistle-wielding “Output”, SLO’s stamp is as compelling as it is surefooted. This release, together with last year’s acclaimed launch of his own label, Aery Metals, a remix for Optimo, his first North American tour, show the young UK producer maturing beyond his years.

On the Hotflush 12" two deep, dark and meticulously honed dance floor productions from SCB. DJ, producer and Hotflush label head Paul Rose/Scuba brings his SCB alias back to the label with new single 'Rope' / 'Technique'. 'Rope' is led by its focused percussive drive, letting layers of twisted ambience and decaying synth stabs wrap themselves around the nuanced rhythmic evolution as it penetrates the ether. On the flip, 'Technique' offers a looser counterpart as Rose offsets the shuffling groove against the mesmeric swing of the chords that lap against it. This is the latest in the series of SCB releases in 2013 and showcasing his skills in a fantastic way. Some proper techno vibes here!!
