Synthetic is a track from IIB debutant Kimopots. Sythetic is a deep grooving house cut. Eastern elements and soft arps melting with subtle technoy acid vibes. Dreamy. Ilija Rudman brings out the analogue hardware and adds a boogieesque bassline keeping the deepness. Finally Robot 84 pumps it up a touch with a nod towards Italian house sounds of the early 90's. 3 great versions.

The second track is Tuesday Club is a techy machine funk bomb with shades of New Beat and a nod to Forgemasters. The Mushrooms boys bring the acid and soft melodic pads turning this into a dreamy heads down groover.

IIB celebrate their 50th release with Chris Coco dropping his Dinosaur Baby 12. Featuring the quirky vocals of Camillo Miranda. The OG mix is a hazy stoned out percussive groove dripping in mediterranean sunshine. The dub mix focuses on the hynoptic percussion parts and less on the vox. Rune Lindbaek creates a more electronic disco tinged affair while Luke Solomon creates a straight up deep house bomb. A great release to celebrate a half century!

Five years further down the line. My grey exchanged for white. Those Coyote boys though, they're still keeping that "Venus" flag flying, still fostering a "Balearic Network" they helped to establish nearly three decades ago.

Is It Balearic releases a debut EP from Clandestino's Joe Morris. 4 tracks of lush electronic grooves. The title track Golden Tides is a mid tempo houser with beautiful pads and soft arpeggios. Late afternoon sundowner vibrations. The second track Bayou has touches of Sueno Latino about it., an afterdark evocative tropical house trip. On the flip the first track Light Of The Moon is a more reflective slo mo affair. Warm pads and 808 sounds melting into cicadas. Finally we come to Mpondo Theme. Sounds of nature , Kalimba and loose percussion all sit together and watch the sun dip over the savannah horizon. A proper EP this covering all shades.

Is It Balearic..? latest offering is from Klik Records man Glass Coffee. Disclosures is a hypnotic slice of European deep house. Laid back electric pianos and marimbas layered over a tight house groove. Dance Naked the second track follows the same kind of pattern upping the tempo slightly, building slowly towards a deep bass drop and arped string line. Again more trademark layers. Full on dancefloor action. The B-side brings one of the greatest Italian house producers ever to IIB. Don Carlos' remix is really something special. A relentless subby double bass sounding b-line relentlessly underpins this delightfully atmospheric excursion into deepness. The Coyote remix slows down the pace and dons its flip flops for a little tropical shuffling. IIB hitting the spot again.

Surprisingly, it's been some four years since Croat producer Ilija Rudman dropped his much-played debut album, The Reveal, on Bear Funk. Happily, True Colours - his first outing on Is It Balearic - sees him in fine form, joining the dots between kaleidoscopic synth-funk, rubbery dub-disco, spaced-out boogie and glassy-eyed downtempo jams. Rudman is an expert at capturing the sounds of bygone eras, usually through the use of vintage equipment, while delivering tracks that sound thoroughly fresh and original. It's this that makes True Colours such a fantastic set. Highlights are plentiful, from the close dance smoothness of "Bad Passion" and boogie dub vibes of "All The Time" (check the delay-laden hits and sweeping violins) to the jaunty electro-goes-Balearic brilliance of "Wild Guess".

The seed for Is It Balearic? Was sown at Venus, in Nottingham, at the start of the 1990s. Venus was a club that formed an important part of the then "Balearic Network". A network that linked party-spirited souls throughout the UK, "legends" such as Back To Basics in the North with their likeminded counterparts at soirees such as Flying in the South. It was a time of "cultural exchange", coach trips and weekenders. Timm & Ampo, as residents at Venus, spent the '90s travelling up and down the country DJing at venues and events such as The Gardening Club, Stealth, Sabresonic, Ministry Of Sound, Club UK, and Voodoo. After over a decade of DJing together, the two friends formed Coyote in 2004, to produce music. Then in 2007, Is It Balearic? Recordings was born, initially with the humble aim of making their own productions available to the public. Since then Timm & Ampo, and Is It Balearic? have established a new Balearic Network, extending out from the UK to Portugal, Italy, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Lithuania, Norway, Belgium, New York, Ibiza, and Japan. As artists and label owners they've handled releases and remixes from and for Tiago, Max Essa, Justin Robertson, Mudd, Mushrooms Project, Giulio DJ, Aihki, Pete Herbert, Rune Lindbaek, Aeroplane, Andrew Weatherall, Hardway Bros, Phoreski, Craig Bratley, Time & Space Machine, Prins Thomas, The Backwoods, Last Waltz, Begin, Charles Webster, Soft Rocks, Connan Moccasin, International Feel, RVNG Intl., Tusk, and Claremont 56, and collaborated with Moonboots and Jason Boardman on Aficionado. After teaming up with Ene on the Journey EP and a Backwoods remix in 2010 it seemed like a perfect match to get together on the 5 year anniversary CD.
