Now here’s something special. Johannes Brecht returns to Poker Flat with a little night music, a trio of deep, dramatic and driving house tunes that in their precision and invention are testimony to a distinctive intelligence. Since an impressive stint as musical director for Henrik Schwarz’s “Instruments” project and the subsequent release of 2013’s “Holla", Brecht’s reputation has been growing steadily with a series of carefully crafted 12″s. And if “Trois Nocturnes” is anything to go by, 2015 is set to be his year. “Nuages” hinges on a sinuous, snake-charming synth line. Instantly memorable, it’s an exquisite headphone experience that’s equally deadly on the dancefloor. The lilting “Sirènes” teems with ideas, its big kick burnished with a dancing synth motif and a chamber orchestra of synthetic strings. Last but not least, the motorik 12-minute “Fêtes” contrasts its knotty, brittle piano line with sus-tained pads and bright, striking syncopations.
