Prolific Italian DJ and producer José Manuel releases his debut concept album ‘Excursion Africanism’ on the highly respected Copenhagen based Music For Dreams label.José Manuel began his DJ career in clubs in Italy at the age of 16 and has since gone on to produce and release singles on esteemed Belgian label Eskimo Recordings, cool Parisian label Kill The DJ and collaborated with others such as Tusk, Wax, Kinfolk, Cocktail D’Amore, Above Machine, and Is It Balearic? On this new double vinyl LP ‘Excursion Africanism’, José Manuel delivers innovative and deeply percussive tribal grooves washed with voices and sounds of the African continent. The album includes the singles ‘Bilimbosa’ with its relaxed percussive guitar groove and stunning vocal delivery from Babacar Dieng and ‘Babylon’ which also features Dieng’s spiritual voice this time fused with a raw voodoo rhythm. Other highlights are the tribalistic and dreamy ‘Macumba’; the chanting ambience of ‘Voices of Africa’; ‘Rain’ - nomadic village chill out with savannah beats and the funky percussive world groove of ‘Congo’. Afrobeat drumming, electronic textures and cinematic accordion become the template for ‘Magic’ while ‘Excursion Africanism Part 3’ is spaced out futuristic roots music for the global generation. The original of ‘Hungry’ is laden with jungle beats, strong bass and repeated afro choir, plus we have a special bonus version - the sublime afro trance dub by Ibiza legend Leo Mas and partner Fabrice.‘Excursion Africanism’ is a visionary concept album written, produced, and arranged by José Manuel that succeeds in combining a sense of Balearic beats, world music and Afro acid within a template of space disco. In revisiting the epic journey of José Manuel's debut album "Excursion Africanism", the Copenhagen based Music For Dreams have procured remixes from like-minded producers to lend an additional layer to the afro-inspired dance music of Manuel. Turkish multi-instrumentalist Islandman (who recently released an EP on Music For Dreams) strips and slows down elements of "Babylon" and offers a more laid back and spacious version of the track, adding his kosmische guitar playing to the mix. Also of Turkish decent, Berlin-based producer and international touring DJ Mehmet Aslan grabs hold of the album’s only ambient track "Voices of Afrika" and turns it into his own creation entirely. Bearing almost no resemblance to the original, Aslan’s remix is a dubby leftfield jam with far out guitar noodling and industrial-sounding drum machine breakdowns. Intense and defiantly orchestrated for the darkest corners of the dance floor. And for those who wondered about the curiously titled album track "Excursion Africanism (Part 3)" we get another piece of that puzzle from Manuel himself, with the inclusion of part 1 (plus a more stripped down Percussion Dub version to boot). Essentially a raw tribal groove with a hypnotic repetitious chant, this makes for a perfect DJ tool to complete this heavy release

Above Machine continue to build a heavenly selection of Summer cuts, bringing aboard - for their eighth outing - the excellent Jose Manuel. This acclaimed Italian producer has landed himself at the forefront of a new wave of Cosmic and Balearic producers with releases on ISIT Balearic, Kinfolk & Joe's Bakery. For his AM debut, the trademark motifs are all present and correct, pulsing electronic workouts underpinned with organic instrumentation, achieving (on 'Cendre') undeniable trance states with North African melodies and hypnotic chants. 'Summer Wind' follows a similar path with a distinctive mantra riding the mesmeric percussive groove and intertwining melodies. On remix duties, Frenchman Closed Paradise (fresh from that stunning 12 on Fools & Fables) transforms 'Summer Wind' into an altogether more laid-bare and unrelenting dancefloor frug. Meanwhile Ess O Ess (AKA Jamie Blanco & Chris Stoker) give 'Summer Wind' the Bad Passion treatment, upping the ante with some good old fashioned tension, and a splash of Disco-Rock, building the elements to a subtly evolving crescendo that's dancefloor pay-dirt.
