Cosmic Neighbourhood - Collages II
Cosmic Neighbourhood
Collages II

Release:2016 / Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Bristol-based illustrator and musician Adam Higton welcomes you back into the mossy realm of the Cosmic Neighbourhood. With each song acting as a response to a series of paper-and-scissors compositions, 'Collages II' documents the daily goings-on of an imagined world.Sonically, this record straddles new and old, taking modular electronics, flutes, bells and softly pattering drum machines, before colouring them all with the amber glow of some forgotten, psychedelic kids' TV programme. Higton's benign toots and echoing jingles bring to mind Daphne Oram's early delay experiments or the meandering playfulness of Tom Cameron. Radiophonic and time-worn, it still somehow sounds like the future.

Live From Concrete Island is the debut album from Brighton based producer Stephen Maskell, aka The Nag's Head. Taking material from the last four years, he's created a head-spinning tapestry of melodic techno and crushed cityscapes. Like Echospace, Maskell's "destroyed" visions nail the feeling of being a stranger in a strange land. For the city's lolloping, dubby percussion we reach deep into its guts, pulling out a squiggly bricolage of pistons, pool balls, window frames, jets of steam. In turns rasping and narcotic, Concrete Island's beatless sections are akin to the crunching menace of early Clark, or Murcof's cosmic space treatments. An occasional shimmer guitar pop gem emerges from the rubble.

Release:2017 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
We're proud to reissue KR03, the debut LP of skewed electronica from Canterbury producer B£AMS. Brimming with warm washes of drone, Patches morphs through stoned hip-hop to gospel and highlife. Densely layered percussion, drunk synth, lost voices and temporal distortion flit in and out of earshot, inducing a joyful lostness. Riding this sea of colourful wooz, B£AMS channels Madlib, Delroy Edwards and Matthew Dear with stumbling ADHD enthusiasm.Occupying a colder, unheimlich universe, the flip side sees B£AMS dredging sea caves for dense undulations of jazz-infused drone, while marshalling armies of static from somewhere above the clouds. Hypnotic mantras, eroded landscapes and encoded loops are run through analogue tape equipment, à la Matthew David or Leyland Kirby, as he collates the muttered instructions for some gestalt machine.

Late Style' is a collection of live takes recorded directly from a Hohner church organ at the point of collapse. This circuitry of this hulking synth, long-installed at Kit HQ, has inexplicably decayed over time, rendering drum loops and melodies as raptures of white noise, squelches and bizarrely spiralling clangs. These weirdly moving digital swan-songs are clearly labelled after the presets that were triggered during recording - 'waltz', 'flutes', etc.On the B-side, pianist Devon Loch and experimental producer Antidröm join forces, arranging recordings from the organ together with contact mic and field recordings, to create four new pieces. In music and art, late style often means an unfettered outpouring in later life. Perhaps these recordings show that circuitry and software have lives too, too. Like creatures and plants, they change over time; they decay, confront mortality, and their functions adapt.
