A reissue of an album from 1981. "Both profound and profoundly jaw dropping, the esoteric moves of this massively rare and insanely obscure Japanese marvel have until now remained the sole preserve of a handful of heavyweight collectors. It's time to let the cat out of the bag on this one. The dankly cavernous and unsettling acid maneuvers of Dome circa their first three LP's (though absent vocals) are the nearest antecedent I can summon for the principal thrust of the sound here. So too, there's a ritualistic dimension to this stuff thats also a bit suggestive of something like Vasilisk or The Hybryds, though the arcane initiatory atmosphere here is far more penetrating than anything I've heard either of those two muster." ~Mutant Sounds.

Lullabies For Insomniacs is pleased to present Yasuo Sugibayashi and The Mask Of The Imperial Family; a compilation of music from Mimic Records 1980-1982..Yasuo began his musical career playing guitar in a high school band, in 1980 after moving to Tokyo and immersing himself in various musical groups he founded Mimic Records. Inspired heavily by the art movements of the late 1970's, in particular the innovations of Brian Eno and David Cunningham he purchased a Roland System 100M. He was in search of a sound and the synthesizer had great potential. Simultaneously he had started experimenting with tape, playing with the tactility of the medium so he could understand how to best adapt it for his pieces. Yasuo explored ancient ethnic music and wanted to combine his influences with daily experiences of city life. The short lived Mimic records was home to three of his solo releases, a self titled LP and two 7 inches, shortly after this period Yasuo went on to pursue other musical projects, in 1985 he was a founding member of the band Qujila which is still active today.

Hungarian composer and musicologist László Hortobágyi, took his first expedition to North India in the late 1960's to record music, study philosophy and learn traditional instruments such as the rudra-vina, sitar, surbahar and tabla. These ongoing trips heavily influenced his musical style and much of his recorded work. LFI is happy to announce the reincarnation of one of his most illustrious works, Transreplica Meccano originally released by Hungaropop in 1988.As a child László fantasised about interacting with otherworldly muses and imploring them for the hope and guidance he yearned to escape the intellectual bareness of his surroundings. His early feelings of alienation combined with the almost sensual pleasure he remembers from these interactions, influenced and helped shape his life long musical journey. In 1980 he established the musical society called Gáyan Uttejak Mandal. It was named after the Hindu-Moslem musician's society founded by Navraojí Kabrají in 1870 (it was the school of the great musicologist, V.N Bhátkhánde). The society expanded throughout the 1980’s with an archive of oriental music, to be considered unique and unrivalled in Eastern Europe, which has operated parallel to the Gáyan Uttejak Studio and the Gáyan Uttejak Orchestra. The members have made it their duty to practice and study the world heritage of traditional cultures. The remastered and revised edition of Transreplica Meccano is reborn after 31 years. László weaves a tapestry of sample based magic, transcribed from travels across the orient, transporting the listener to a fascinating world of archaic musicality. His sound palette is rebuilt and restructured using PCM morphology and FFT spectrum analysis as well as virtual overtone processing synthesis software he developed in 1988. The new live program's repertoire is also based on the classical Indian instrumental technique of the Gáyaki-Ang and the Tablá-tárang polyrhythmic structure, and is mixed with his developed sound morphology of the granular systhesis technique according to his original 'computed memesis of music' concept. The result is an incredible amalgamation of musical worlds, allow yourself to be immersed in a truly unique dialect.

Air Cushion Finish formed in Berlin in 2007 and comprises of composer Jayrope and natural vocal synthesizer Lippstueck, who have graced Berlin’s underground scene together since the 1990's. Lippstueck sings, wordless and backwards in time while his partner Jayrope tends DIY, electronic, string or percussion instruments small enough to fit into a small suitcase. Changing setup and subsequently music is programmatic to the band, resulting into an unforeseeable slow motion cacophony of whispers, bleeps, rhythms and harmonies. There’s a notion of Dada, but you never know. The 8th studio album definitely marks their current state of poetical accident, swaying, swinging and bouncing, boldly careful, like a transparent tattoo on your forehead.

Millions Brazilians formed in Portland, Oregon in 2006. Founding members Grant Corum and Suzanne Stone have been central to the band since it’s inception, while a rotating line-up backs them depending on the latest vision for the sound. TIP! .The band carry out their own interpretation of a genre bending ethos that has evolved throughout the American underground. Drifting between boundless compositions, focused energetic improvisations and experimental collaborations that embrace a weird sort of transcendence.Their next installment Red Rose and Obsidian was recorded in Maine and engineered by Big Blood’s Caleb Mulkerin. Both he and the band deliver a powerful yet fragile and personal release. The mythical and evocative recordings are inspired by Maine's rugged coastlines; mournful ripples of sound wash up on the shore, whilst a lonesome, at times harrowing saxophone drifts through the rolling mountains, providing unsettling melodic interludes. Electronic treatments veil organic sounds, a fleeting whistle meets spontaneously with spacey flutes, mutated rock rhythms are topped off with the soaring vocals of Suzanne Stone who leads the listeners into the magical world of the Million Brazilians.

This is a collection of works from British musician GP Hall, recorded between 1994 and 1999. For over four decades, guitar in hand Hall encountered many styles; jazz, blues, flamenco, rock, folk, and classical improvisation. All contributed to the creation of his unique style. Emerging from the British blues boom of the 1960’s, he then followed a long and winding path through various scenes and cultures. In Spain, he was Influenced by flamenco master Manitas Del Plata before touring Europe with Liverpool band Casey Jones & the Governors. He was commissioned three times (twice by The Arts Council of Great Britain) for original music and was immersed in the avant-garde scene of the 1970’s as an improviser, a pioneer of electric flamenco and a composer of large-scale ensemble pieces. During the 1980’s Hall turned his focus to soundtrack music before reinventing himself as the solo performer he is today. With this strong foundation he branched into a tactile expression of his craft, discovering a new style which he called industrial sound sculptures. These sonic compositions are performed on electric and acoustic guitars as well as the six-string bass and are played with various techniques and implements including slides, battery fans, the psaltery bow, razors, toys, Velcro and crocodile clips which are fed through sound processors to create a rich sonic environment.

Life Garden was formed in Phoenix, Arizona during the fall of 1989 by George Dillon, Su Ling and W. David Oliphant. The group was the reinvention of post-industrial band Maybe Mental (1982-1987) and delved into an ineffable territory; where language failed, their music found root. Life Garden's sound focused on creating a space that would transcend people to a world of beauty, intensity and mystery. Each release was loosely guided by one member, “Caught between the Tapestry of Silence and Beauty” (1991) was focused towards the poetry and vocals of George Dillon who sadly passed away after the completion of the album. During this period Life Garden began to shift from using synths and samplers to an all acoustic approach. Over several months Su Ling and David developed a unique improvisational style using digital multi-effects and loopers to process Su's vocals and a variety of percussion, string and wind instruments. This became the foundation of their sound and is heard throughout 'Songs from the other Side of Emptiness'. The LP + 7inch includes music from the following bodies of work: “Worlds Whirl Beneath The Sun Volume 1” (1990), “Pry Open My Mouth With The Red Knife Of Heaven” (1992) and “Seed” (1993) and Ahitanaman (1995).

Double LP of new material from New Jersey musician, Unearth Noise. The album compiles selected compositions made over the last three years. As a kid Roger Berkowitz was inspired by the celestial sounds of Ravi Shankar’s strings, an album that was introduced to him by his father who was an engineer for RCA. In his youth he played in various Punk bands and dabbled in experimental music after being exposed to the likes of John Cage, Harry Partch, Brian Eno and Mahavishnu. Around 25 years ago while experimenting in his basement with tapes loops, his 1/4" reel to reel and a 4-track, the name Unearth Noise was born albeit shortly lived as over the next decade his focused turned to songwriting and playing the guitar and drums in various ensembles. He wrote and recorded songs that mixed rock and folk influences in an experimental manner. These were made available online under various monikers Sugar Skulls, Ancient Aliens and Shadowface. A few years ago Roger began exploring the forms of the instrumental pieces he had created, mixing these with elements of eastern music and rock aesthetics, which had influenced and inspired so much of his sonic journey.
