The Brussels-based Razen make experimental and minimal music with unconventional instruments, focusing on tuning, intonation and the use of intervals. Their The Night Receptionist album sees them working again with performance artist and poet, videographer and self-portrait painter Bryan Lewis Saunders. Recorded during a two-week residency at QO2 in Brussels in 2016, The Night Receptionist employs a just intonation system based on the tonality diamond of Harry Partch. The instruments of choice were sarangi, double bass, recorders, shawm, monochord, santur and a selection of hommels. Easily the most monochrome and minimal music the band has ever recorded, with a timbral effect that is dreamy and twilight-like, Bryan Lewis Saunders' voice adds a layer of hushed disconnection and disenchantment, recounting the story of a failed gymnast turned night receptionist, wishing for acts of anti-gravity and catching salamanders. It is music for the early hours of the morning, music that explores the undercurrent of thought processes on the threshold of deep sleep. CD comes w/ 8pg. booklet on 160 gr. paper.

Realistic Monk is the new performance project from Carl Stone in collaboration with artist and composer Miki Yui. Carl Stone is one of the pioneers of live computer music and has been composing electro-acoustic music almost exclusively since 1972. The Village Voice has famously hailed him as 'the king of sampling'. Miki Yui is an artist and composer who develops pieces of music, drawings and sound installations that start from a perception of the faintest sounds and noises and subtly reference existents. Realistic Monk has previously released the recording of their 2017 live performance at Caf? Oto, making Realm their de facto debut album. Over the course of five pieces, they focus on small sounds, often at the edge of perception, aiming at a deeper listening and perception of their musical stance and technique. Soundscapes that play with enchantment and disenchantment, emerging out of voices, noises and field recordings and acoustic feedback, their work is as subtle as it is fearless. Realm's play with musical and other signifiers make the album into a highly relevant and even outspoken take on electronic music today.

Going's third effort is a joint release by Silent Water and meakusma. Recorded in the span of one year in monthly recording sessions, it sees them venture off into an at times melismatic and contrasting contemplation on forward musical propulsion, 70s crossover jazz and minimalistic and at times downright futuristic electronic music. Over the course of two spun out yet concentrated pieces, light and dark are built into a mesmerizing musical reverie that is equally as contemplative as it is explicitly emotional and confrontational. Melodic as well as rhythmic accents diverge and coalesce with ease and poise, a subtle yet incessant throb defining everything throughout. Record includes free download code + additional bonus track. Running time Side A - 24:43 / Side B - 24:22 Released in a gatefold cover.

Juni is the first joint release by Charly Schoeppner and Sascha Demand, two seasoned veterans of experimental and improvisational music. They call themselves Giraffe. Their longstanding friendship has now propelled them into making Juni. Juni contains 11 short pieces that effortlessly flow in and out of each other. Intuitive, yet controlled, subdued, yet at times nervously ritualistic, percussive elements drive the tracks with melodic and harmonic impulses weaved around them. The record references abstract jazz and contemporary experimental music. It is an original snapshot of what makes contemporary experimental music tick.

On Mix Mup's first outing on meakusma, he once again delves deep into abstracted, bleeped-out house music. His characteristically playful and quirky sound has gained him a loyal following amongst those looking for grooves that are as smooth as they are chopped up. So here come three tracks aimed at adventurous dancefloors and one soulful, ambientish track to top it all off. Mix Mup's gentle and funk- and soul-induced madness is his claim to dance music freedom. For a few years now, Mix Mup has been in cahoots with Kassem Mosse, releasing the highly acclaimed collaborative effort MM/KM on The Trilogy Tapes. He has furthermore released his unique brand of off kilter club music on Hinge Finger and Mikrodisko. This new 12inch sees him develop his style even more, playing around with space and structure. Not straightforward, but ever keen on showing process, these four tracks are all beautiful house music miniatures that surpass readymade consumption, their unspokenness being their loudest plea.

Stefan Schwander has been releasing his heavily processed and sequenced take on African music and American minimalism under his Harmonious Thelonious moniker since 2008. His new EP on meakusma is only the second one on a non-German label. On two tracks, Schwander takes his trademark rhythmically and melodically repetitive sound into straightforward Techno territory, although some heavy phasing gives the raw power and stoic repetition of these tracks an ambientish, post-club feel. Two other tracks further develop his typically eclectic and informed sound, playing live organ on one of them, displaying a jittery and jumpy rhythmic style that looks for a groove that until now did not exist. Jesse Hackett, a.k.a. Elmore Judd, delivers a remix that takes the original firmly into 'My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts' territory, giving melody and rhythm a more open sense of space, and layering it with vocal samples to further add to a sense of Funk alienation. This is serious and exhilarating music!
