Copenhagen’s Music For Dreams comes with yet another strong release - a double album of personal favourites compiled by Jan Schulte.According to all maps and witness accounts, Germany does not officially have any tropical forests. This is of no concern to Schulte however, who has unearthed many stunning examples of tropical drum music recorded there. Perhaps the number of botanical gardens and palm houses in Germany confused musicians into mistaking the climate, or maybe it was just a happy blend of escapism and multi-cultural integration within musical scenes that spawned such a curious output of undefinable tribal folk jazz. Most of the tracks picked by Schulte were released on small labels in the late 80's. The musicians involved were mainly traditionally schooled, born and raised in Germany. At that time to be interested in foreign folk music might have seemed a gimmick to some, what with the emerging "world music boom" already snowballing into the mainstream. But these songs, while they may be based on musical traditions from foreign lands, deal much more with introspection than exploitation. Schulte himself points to his "generalfascination for music that describes places where the artists have never been. Songs about the jungle or the rainforest made by people that know the rainforest only from television and books. Somehow I think you can hear their mythical imagination and fantasy in those tracks," he explains. We certainly hear it in the extensive use of wildlife samples on both "Tagtraum Eines Elefanten" by Argile and on "Wuhan Wuchang" by Total Art Of Percussion. Or on the repetitive and trace-inducing drum circle re-enactments of Ralf Nowys "Akili Mali" and Bob Moses’ & Billy Martin’s "Boat Song Part II". And while Austrian band Sanza stands out with their interpretation of the traditional folk song "Sounouh", many of the inclusions take an avantgarde stance towards their visions of the tropics. The works of Om Buschmannand Trimopen seem to convey the stark and feverish nature of the jungle and its dangers, without relying on clichés. And while there is certainly a European approach in the production techniques on many of these recordings, the artists created something beyond all templates. In fusing folk music traditions from various corners of the world with avant-garde jazz improvisation and a distinctly European sound, they carved out a path of their own.Düsseldorf-based Jan Schulte has been following this path with his own productions in the past years. During the present resurgence of tribal influences in underground dance music, his recordings under the alias Wolf Müller and Bufiman have stood out as the most interesting, funky and mindblowing within this niche. With the compilation "Tropical Drums Of Deutschland" for Music For Dreams, Jan Schulte re-traces this path to its origins. With the inclusion of two exclusive edits he also engages and re-examines thesetracks and incorporates his own musical expression into the mix.

Copenhagen-based label Music For Dreams are extremely proud to unleash the debut album of Sweden’s Prins Emanuel.Released in double vinyl format, Emanuel’s first full length solo project is a concept album revolving around the medium of the record itself. With a functionalist’s attitude, each of the vinyl records can serve a different purpose. Translated from Swedish, the album title literally reads "Work/Leisure Time" and the contrasting moods of the two discs are meant to reflect. So on a Friday evening, you might tell your girl or boy to put on the A/B sides as you're getting ready to bust some moves that night. And on Sunday evening, you tell him/her to put on the C/D sides as you're relaxing and tapping up a bath. Although this is a multi-instrumentalist’s vision, the fact that Prins is primarily a drummer is clearly evident in the masterful hypnotic grooves that form the base on which the whole album stands. And while elements of dub, boogie, afro, house and new age flicker by as we ride along on these motorik rhythms, the balance between warmth and repetition provokes a constant tickling irrestistible tension. For fans of the young Swede’s former output with the Fasaan/Chalice label (especially his collaborations with label mate Golden Ivy), this superb LP will surely not disappoint. Limited vinyl edition - don’t miss.

Music For Dreams continue their high profile string of releases with this double album of dark pop brilliance from Danish newcomers Silent Riders.Apart from their names - Lu, Gee and C - little is known about this mysterious trio who wear masks during live performances. Emerging from some unknown murky world, materialising from the shadows in the woods, they have created a mythical sphere accessible only through their music - a vision of electronica that is organic and alive with both warmth and danger.Led by the sultry voice of Lu, we are drawn into the dark imaginings of the Silent Riders with almost cinematic brilliance as Gee and C man the machines that weave the atmospheric dronings of their world - a world that could be easily mistaken for one created by David Lynch or Tim Burton. The rhythms that form the path to this domain remind us along the way of previous travellers such as Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire or Tolouse Lowtrax. With the opening track "I See You", Silent Riders offer up a brilliant pop diamond combining all elements of their distinctive sound palette. Lu’s soulful voice bounces off almost funky drum machines, all drenched in layers of dark analog ambience. On the lush "Copenhagen Dream", Lu channels a sense of brit-pop nonchalance into a political song about the state of her city. In contrast, "Being Afraid" sees the band in their hardest grittiest mode - with Lu reminiscent of PJ Harvey at her most moody and the slow groove behind her like a factory machine beating and releasing steam. Other highlights include the chilling "Static" and the ethereal beauty of closing track "Falling" which sees the Riders in their most relaxed and dreamy state, and echoes the works of Portishead and Massive Attack. A stunning debut - limited vinyl release - don’t miss.

Other highlights are the tribalistic and dreamy ‘Macumba’; the chanting ambience of ‘Voices of Africa’; ‘Rain’ - nomadic village chill out with savannah beats and the funky percussive world groove of ‘Congo’. Afrobeat drumming, electronic textures and cinematic accordion become the template for ‘Magic’ while ‘Excursion Africanism Part 3’ is spaced out futuristic roots music for the global generation. After whetting our appetites with a superb taster 12” earlier in the year, Music For Dreams now bring us the full double vinyl release of ‘Volume 1’, the hotly-anticipated debut LP from Ambala aka Phil Mison, the original Cafe Del Mar DJ, collector extraordinaire and all-round Balearic don.Ambala continues Mison’s extremely fruitful 15-year plus relationship with Kenneth Bager’s Music For Dreams label which has seen him release material both as Cantoma and Frontera. This brand-new project was recorded in collaboration with Danish musician and engineer Volmer across a series of weekend sojourns in the scenic streets of Copenhagen and showcases yet another side of prolific producer Mison. He says: "Ever since I first met Kenneth Bager at Roskilde Festival in 1992, where I recognised his outlandish dress sense from photos I’d seen in i-D magazine, we have been friends. It was the start of a long musical relationship, where we eventually started working together. My first Cantoma album was recorded for Music For Dreams in the early 2006. The Frontera project with Pete Herbert was realized a couple of years later. Last year we decided it was time for something new, which led to recording Ambala over the past year in Copenhagen together with Thomas Volmer Schulz.”This 10-track album reflects Mison’s renowned eclectic tastes with a wide variety of sounds including the magical summery Caribbean house of ‘Calypso Beach’ (the first single); slow African chugger ‘Bambari’; 80s Italo-disco inspired ‘Alla Vita’; quirky old-school house in ‘Sergio’s Dance’; vintage sunset ambient ‘Last Swimmer’; eighties soul infused house groove ‘Union’; Cantoma-style chilled Balearic track ‘Zarago’; ‘High Line’, an Italo-house style funky organ-driven groove wrought out of old school drum machines and soulful keys; ‘Sol Serra’ featuring classical Spanish flamenco guitaristJacob Gurevitsch; the cool deepness of ‘Distant Island; plus a wonderful vocal cameo from Danish legends Laid Back on ‘Walk With The Dreamers’. A perfect soundtrack to summer and beyond - don’t miss this limited vinyl edition.

Copenhagen’s Music For Dreams cements its reputation as a label to watch with this new compilation of label boss Kenneth Bager’s favourite ‘Balearic Biscuits’ - eight of his tastiest secret weapons for the most eclectic and adventurous dancefloors brought together in one essential vinyl double pack. The opener comes from Dusseldorf's ‘Saloon De Amateurs’ resident Jan Schulte aka Wolf Müller aka Bufiman. ‘Basedrum Party’ is a tribal funky jungle beat with strong percussion. Throw in some weird and wonderful synth stabs and you have a very original and special crowdpleaser - Kenneth's personal favorite record of last year. José Manuel delivers a great percussive tribal groove called ‘Macumba’ that shifts direction half way through, with a Doors organ vibe washing over the African continent. Mehmet Aslan is on remix duties for ‘Mechanical Turk’ by Karpov Not Kasparov and his Turkish Bazaar roots shine through in a mesmerising epic nine minute musical journey of pure quality. Jan Schulte once again twists his beats on his remix of Africaine 808 resulting in a hypnotic floorfiller full of energy. Kenneth Bager’s electronic disco and Fela-inspired ‘Biological Bread’ was recorded by him in Copenhagen then mixed by Tuccinelli in Ibiza and recalls an African Kwanza Posse mood. The 10 minute anthemic ‘Hafi Deo’ from 1985 by African Rumba singer-songwriter Tabu Ley Rochereau is a real winner showcasing his unique way of mixing Congolese folk music with Caribbean beats yet still sounding contemporary. Another special inclusion is the highly sought-after Kenneth favorite ‘I Think You Are Boring’ which was self-released in 1989 by 380 Volt Electric Papa - timeless drum machine overlaid with some very strange Italo-English lyrics. Finally ‘Fork Power’ by Grooveman Spot, a thunderous and amazing percussive powerful DJ mixing tool for peaktime heaven on any dancefloor. A special release for true collectors of the weirder and wonderful... Limited vinyl 300.

Ruf Dug’s debut album ‘Island’ was released to much acclaim in 2015 on Kenneth Bager’s Music For Dreams imprint. It sold out its first promo run within weeks and scored top spots in many ‘Best Of Year’ reviews. Now for 2016, Ruffy has picked some of his favourite artists to rework his tracks and this is the result. Ruf Dug says... "When Kenneth asked me to make the album he always had the plan that we would get some remixes done of the tracks. From an early point in the album I was thinking about who I'd love to remix the tracks, and this represents the first part of some serious wish fulfillment!“PEAKING LIGHTS' music I adore; I had the luck to play with Aaron a while ago and we got on very well. It was a total thrill when he agreed to do the remix. I made 'Speedboat' in part as a tribute to (i.e. ripoff of!) the PL sound so there is some very nice symmetry to the remix.“AL BREADWINNER is an incredible Dub producer from Stockport, not far from my house at all. He has an enviable all-analog hardware studio and is constantly producing dubs. He was the very first person on my list to do remixes - 'Rasta Beach' is the most Reggae-ish track on there and to hear it after it's been through his rig is really something.“2814 have emerged this year - a duo who I still haven't met in real life, they transformed the Vaporwave landscape earlier year with their debut album, showcasing incredible compositional tunes. Here they have taken 'Tendacayou' from the hilltop spa and dropped it firmly in a dark cyber dystopia, and it sounds all the better for it.“K-BAG is the man who makes it all happen, the man with the master plan. He sent me a mail and asked for the parts to Dominica a while back. He's taken Dominica and turned it into the ultimate sunset soundtrack... from Cafe Del Mar to the Louisiana museum, this is one to send out over the waves when the sky is turning orange...”Limited vinyl - don’t sleep!

Late last year Music For Dreams released the digital album "Debut" by Bongo Entp. This passion project from veteran studio session player Jacob Andersen brought us an unexpectedly fresh take on South American music traditions. On this new vinyl release, the project is both revisited and expanded upon. Cherry picking some of the grooviest cuts from the album for this EP, we also get remix treatments from well sourced collaborators Selvagem & Carrot Green. Both hailing from Brazil, these producers certainly know how to work Latin percussion on a dancefloor. Taking on the dreamy cover version of Henri Mancini’s classic "Lujón" (original included too), Carrot Green ups the tempo and wrangles the elements of the original into something completely different. Adding a house kick and dark acid undertones, he takes you on a wet trip with lots of twists and turns. The production duo of Selvagem manage something similar with one of the looser Bongo Entp. jams. The original "Foto Feita Do Aviaõ is a jazzy scat singalong tune. In Selvagem’s hands, it turns into an epic cosmic disco groover, locked into place by a muscular baseline. The vocal chants of the original are here, but used in a lower key and more sparingly to punctuate the bounce of the rhythm. The vinyl includes two other album highlights - the Cafe del Mar classic "El Rey De Pollo" , a Santana-style chill-out affair featuring Mikkel Nordsø of Bombay Hotel fame and finally the moody "Spanish Winter" with its robotic reggae-like groove and syrup-thick synthesizers bubbling in a bittersweet fashion. A superb package.

In revisiting the epic journey of José Manuel's debut album "Excursion Africanism", the Copenhagen based Music For Dreams have procured remixes from like-minded producers to lend an additional layer to the afro-inspired dance music of Manuel. Turkish multi-instrumentalist Islandman (who recently released an EP on Music For Dreams) strips and slows down elements of "Babylon" and offers a more laid back and spacious version of the track, adding his kosmische guitar playing to the mix. Also of Turkish decent, Berlin-based producer and international touring DJ Mehmet Aslan grabs hold of the album’s only ambient track "Voices of Afrika" and turns it into his own creation entirely. Bearing almost no resemblance to the original, Aslan’s remix is a dubby leftfield jam with far out guitar noodling and industrial-sounding drum machine breakdowns. Intense and defiantly orchestrated for the darkest corners of the dance floor. And for those who wondered about the curiously titled album track "Excursion Africanism (Part 3)" we get another piece of that puzzle from Manuel himself, with the inclusion of part 1 (plus a more stripped down Percussion Dub version to boot). Essentially a raw tribal groove with a hypnotic repetitious chant, this makes for a perfect DJ tool to complete this heavy release

Danish label Music For Dreams releases another winner with the debut album from Danish artist Emil Breum aka The Swan And The Lake. "Moments" showcases Breum’s talent for creating exquisite and sensitive soundscapes whose timeless atmosphere echoes contemporary classical composers as well as some of the more New Age-minded artists of the Berlin School. Although mostly known as a spiritual movement, New Age also spawned a musical ideology that lives on past the clutches of cults and communes: a purity in sound, and a longing for music to reflect the sounds of nature. "Moments" captures this essence perfectly, its compositions seeming to suspend time and prolong a sense of clarity, like staring out over a beautiful landscape at sunset - both a sobering and healing experience.Opening both sides of the album are collaborations with guitarist Anders Brandt who provides a beautiful groove alongside Breum’s motionless ambient states and "Dive" has become an established favorite in many DJs’ sunset playlists in Ibiza this summer. Also included is Moonboots’ (of Manchester’s Aficionado) pick "Moments of Lost Swans", a gorgeous modern Balearic track full of melodic marimbas. Another highlight is the string-based "Bright Lights" which plays out in in three parts - an electronic intro glides into Breum’s moody piano chords and finally drops into an emotional string ending that feels like a cross between Michael Nyman and Nils Frahm. The New Age upbeat feel of "Waiting For Spring" gives it the air of a forgotten Cafe Del Mar classic - emotive keys, reverbs, marimbas, pianos make a memorable and unique track. Breum also supplies the photo for the front cover of the album, an image borne of his desire to capture special moments of day and night, just as he has done with the mesmerising musical landscapes on this stunning debut. This 12” features four very different versions of the track and first up is the floor-friendly ‘Paradiso Mix’, created by Leo, Fabrice and Rocca together - a velvety groove with a sax reminiscent of 808 State standard ‘Pacific State’ and a jumpy deep bass, perfect for moon elevation. Followed by two Leo Mas & Fabrice mixes - the midtempo almost esoteric ‘Es Vedrà Mix’, a moody Ibiza creature, and the gorgeous ‘On Air Mix’ with all elements floating in space with only few rhythmical touches, a moment of pure bliss. Finally, Rocca’s ‘Original Sin Mix’ is a stabby, oscillating acidic beauty. Get your hands on this limited vinyl before it disappears into a Galaxy far away ...

Music For Dreams are proud to present the latest vinyl sampler of ‘Mediterraneo - Rare Balearica Vol 1’, their Leo Mas curated series of sought after Italian goodies! Leo Mas says: "This third sampler of my ‘Mediterraneo’ compilation opens with ‘U (I Dig You)’ by Chrisma, a cover of ‘Who’ by Odyssey, a project from 1974 that saw Vangelis collaborate with Richelle Dassin and Robert Fitoussi and which only ever came out on 7". It was covered twice in 1977, once by Chrisma and also by Demis Roussous, with his ‘I Dig You’ version. Chrisma's cover was produced by Niko Papathanassiou, Vangelis' brother, and the version I choose is the Extended, found on side A of the original 12", a sexy and nocturnal funk disco suite that I love.“The second track on side A of the sampler is ‘Clouds Over Thin Paper’ by Faust'O from his album ‘Love Story’ that came out in 1985. Faust'O is a great borderline artist, original and innovative, a true rebel. His first productions from the late Seventies have a sound between Berlin Bowie, Joy Division and the first dark new-wave.“On the B side, I choose ‘Blue Light’, a track by Giorgio Li Calzi ft. Marconi Union. Calzi collaborated in his career with artists like Wolfgang Flür from Kraftwerk, Alexandre Balanescu and others and for this track he worked with Marconi Union from Manchester, true makers of a minimal English ambient sound, who also worked with Jah Wobble. ‘Blue Light’ is an emotional track with a great dreamy atmosphere that I loved at first listening, simply beautiful. With my partner Fabrice we did a version of ‘Blue Light’, the Androids Dream Remix. We chose this title because while working on it memories of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner came to us!", finishes Mas. Early in 2014, Copenhagen’s Kenneth Bager asked electronic wizard and remix entrepreneur Ruf Dug if he would make an album for his acclaimed Balearic imprint Music For Dreams. That summer, Ruf Dug headed off to spend three months on the island of Guadeloupe in the French Caribbean. Seizing the opportunity to live out his own Compass Point fantasy, he put together a portable studio that would fit into a suitcase - two half-rack synthesizers, a couple of effects units, his laptop and a 4-track cassette recorder. He set up the studio in the spare bedroom in a rented villa and spent the next 12 weeks watching the sun set and making the album. All tracks were written and recorded in Guadeloupe, with Nev Cottee beaming in vocals and guitar parts for a couple of the tracks direct from the heart of Mancunia, hooking into the powerful and long-standing musical relationship between Manchester and that most famous of sunset islands - Ibiza. This is music not only for sunsets, but also for late-night smuggling adventures; for tropical storms and rum-soaked afternoons; for pirates, playboys and people like you and me.The end result hopefully transports you to an island in the sun: neither Guadeloupe nor Ibiza particularly, but rather that island of the imagination, one we all escape to from time to time, no matter where we find ourselves. Welcome to ‘Island’ - the nine track debut album by Ruf Dug on Copenhagen’s Music For Dreams.

"The Best record I have heard in the last 10 Years" Moonboots (Aficionado)Mikkel Nordsø and Ole Thiell are no newcomers. Influential key players both on Copenhagen’s jazz scene and on the international circuit since the late 1970s, they have recorded and performed with such greats as Santana, L. Subramaniam, Jan Akkerman and George Duke to name but a few. Their numerouslocal projects include the much revered Bombay Hotel trio featuring Kenneth Knudsen. On their first record from 1989, they bridged the gaps between fusion jazz, new age and traditional Asian folk music into ethereal expressions that stand out even today. With this new album for Music For Dreams, the duo delves deeper into that soundscape with an even more profound knowledge of their instruments. With Nordsø on the flute and guitar and Thiell on various percussion instruments, they form a musical language together that reaches high spiritual levels while carefully blending electronic instrumentation to complete the experience.Guest vocalist Caroline Francesca steps in on the opener "Good Morning" and the closer "Sun Fo Ni" - the first being a sun-drowsy Brazilian-inspired jam, while "Sun Fo Ni" leans further towards crisp English folk. The inclusion of Francesca comes naturally, as she is the daughter of percussionist and long-time collaborator Jacob Andersen (who also releases on Music For Dreams as Bongo Entp.) making this quite a family affair. Named after a harbour town in Morocco, the track "Essaouira" weaves field recordings of children playing in the sun together with brooding oriental folk and a discrete drum machine beat. For "Japtal" the flute takes centre stage, leading us on a serene journey that unfolds into improvised passages along a chugging heavy groove, escalating and releasing in tempo much like the breathing techniques of yoga. "Velvet Sky" sees the duo at their most relaxed, letting it ride on feather light ambient chords and noodling out into a wigged out prog rock ballad. "B Phrygian" takes us into ancient Anatolian territory, again showcasing the duo’s vibrant live instrumentation with Thiell hurling an army's worth of percussion layers onto the dusty beaten path laid out by Nordsø's stone-faced psychedelic assaults. This album is a classic in the making already getting strong support from Phil Mison and Manchester’s Moonboots who declared it "the best record I have heard in the last 10 Years!" Don’t miss...

Copenhagen-based trio Silent Riders recently wowed us with their immersive neo-gothic full length album debut on Music For Dreams. Now they are back with a remixed package aimed directly for the darkest of dancefloors. Together with some top notch remixers, they are re-visiting their stand out track "I See You" as well as "Shadows", another cut off their self-titled album. First off legendary producer Dennis Bovell lends some of his charms and works "I See You" into a wacky dubbed out groover, skillfully edited down by Mancunian Andi Hanley. No stranger to the flavours of new wave, having produced bands like Saada Bonaire, The Slits and Orange Juice, Bovell brilliantly fuses his dub science with the raw mood of the Riders. Upping the tempo considerably, NYC duo Bryan Mette and Justin Strauss (yes, THAT Justin Strauss!) don their Whatever/Whatever mantle to flesh out the original into a much more hungry club creature, agile and warmer yet with that air of New York cool that really hits you on all levels. Label boss Kenneth Bager himself sits down with the trio to rework the material into a dark brooding extended mix that could easily fit the soundtrack of a John Carpenter flick. Fresh on the scene is HLLW (pronounced 'hollow') who churns out an organic drum'n'bass banger with eerie layers of odd vocal echoes and a gurgling bass rumble. Last up Fellow countryman Kasper Bjørke offers a more leftfield and mechanical approach to the track. Chugging along at 97 BPM, this epic rhythmic excursion unveils slowly and with hints towards the cosmic-minded Germany of the 1980s. Also features a new jam version of “Shadows” - the band themselves take another turn at the track in the studio and deliver a healthy dose of old school electro á la Egyptian Lover and some powerful cold wave chords to underpin the loose vocal performance of singer Lu.

Copenhagen based Music For Dreams release the debut album of Mackrory and Collier.Nick Mackrory & Harry Collier’s musical partnership dates all the way back to the 90's, when they were both deeply invested in the musical boom in the UK that followed acid house, the rave scene, and the Ibiza experience. Nick went from drumsticks to turntables to studio wizardry; while Harry honed in on his golden voice - which led him to a stint as a singer for Faithless. They found their way back to each other in 2014 and have since developed a sound together that is fresh but not too polished. With touches of 60's chanson coupled with sundazed electronics, their songs linger on like the feeling of a long day spent outdoors in summer. This album collects their previously released singles for Music For Dreams along with exclusive new material and a number of remixes, edits and alternate versions that together form a mesmerizing listening experience. The lazy guitar grooves and samba rhythms of "Tu Sonrisa" that so faithfully revisits the original sound of the White Isle in its hippie days, are here present on melancholic chansons like "The Other Side" and sleepy instrumentals such as "Inside You". They also prove a suitable framing on their cover of the Jimmy Webb-penned classic "Wichita Lineman". But in contrast to their folky fuzzy side, we also get some rather funky explorations into balearic beat with a dub version of "Pen-A-Maen" that bubbles along on a heavy bassline and some wonderful synth strings. "Blue Bird" picks up the pace somewhere between the warm proto-house soul of Maze and the deep house meditations of Larry Heard, with Collier letting his scope as a singer come to full fruition in some rather trippy turns. Other highlights include the rather special version of the classic "Aranjuez" and a new string update of "Elle Dit".On remix duties we get Music For Dreams labelmate 55 Cancri e, who sprinkles her dreamy night time dust all over "Elle Dit" and creates an astonishingly unified blend of their two musical universes. Also lending a hand to transform "Elle Dit" is veteran duo Seahawks, who gently layer it in their cosmic-aquatic color palette. Andi Hanley steps in to re-structure "Lucky Charm" into a jazz beat treat by numbers.

Music For Dreams are on a roll in 2016, and this new signing from Chile is no exception. Behind the name Estancia La Mar is a trio of some of the most sought after names on the Chilean music scene. Mario Martinez is maybe the most well-known on the international club circuit with his quirky and fresh take on house under the alias Motivado, also head of electronic label Discos Pegaos and an acclaimed DJ. Pablo Munoz produces music for adverts and TV in addition to sound engineeringand producing for some of Chile’s alternative pop acts via his Janeiros Studios. The third name is perhaps the most unlikely of the three, Juan Pablo Abalo, who mainly writes and arranges classical music for orchestras and ensembles, but is also one half of acclaimed electronic pop duo Los Días Contados. This album "Sesiones de Panamá" was born from a live session in Janeiros Studio, and that freeform live attitude is clearly evident in the resulting music. Throughout the six long tracks of the album, the trio build up progressive atmospheric pieces of genre-defying instrumental music that sits comfortably on rhythmic patterns reminiscent of house. As if Pink Floyd had made a Balearic house record in the mid 90s, they forge a crisp soundscape with space for experimentation. At the centre of their musical expression is the clear influence of their hometown Santiago and its surrounding nature, evident in titles like "El Pacífico Mexicano", "Botavara" and "Isla Margarita". Opening track "Botavara" rolls in on a gentle breeze of tropical percussion and floats along on a carpet of new age synthesizers. The epic "La Casa Del Torrero" starts with a shuffling beat and dreamy xylophone melody, before tripping out into a full 11-minute long cosmic synth and percussion jam. The South American feel comes stronger on "El Pacifico Mexicano" with chatterypolyrhythms carving out a groove along massive waves of ambience - the transcendental music of Manuel Göttsching comes to mind. With "Isla Margarita" we get the featherlight feel of a Wally Badarou production that recent deep house producers have been trying their best to emulate. For the Estancia trio this comes as no struggle, and across a stunning 10 minutes they make that sound their own. On "Terminos & Condiciones" we find the the trio at their quirkiest. Using a long sample of a telephone conversation between an airline customer service agent and a very angry and confused customer, we are led into an uncomfortable contemplation of life’s stressful situations. Closing track "Polaris" ups the tempo considerably and delivers the album’s most dancefloor-friendly track. Relying on a heavy kick with a smattering of hi-hats, the echoing piano chords send us into a blissful revision of 90s’ deep house that is constantly building in momentum.

Copenhagen’s Music For Dreams continue their string of pearls in 2016 with the 12” release of Apiento &LX’s DISH.At the request of cutting edge Danish designer Trine Lindegaard, Paul Byrne (aka Apiento) created thismusic to accompany her DISH project - a playful fusion of food, fashion and art - when it premiered at2016 Copenhagen Fashion Week. For the project, Lindegaard worked with members of integrationorganization ITMV in Copenhagen to produce clothing items based on their favourite food dishes,Apiento and regular collaborator UK-based house producer LX, used the recorded interviews of theirdiscussions as raw material with cut-up samples of the women’s voices woven into the music for therunway show. The result is an ethereal and avant-garde mix of crisp beats and featherlight percussion blended in a freshand modern Oriental-flavoured Balearic groove packed with gorgeous flutes and kalimbas. The powerful dub on the flip-side brings a heavier more trippy feel geared firmly for the dancefloor. As well as a string of great remixes and edits as Apiento, Paul Byrne is also well known for his behind-thescenes work with labels like Junior Boy's Own, International Feel and DEEWEE, and for his highly influential blog Test Pressing. On her debut full length album for Danish label Music For Dreams, Sara Hausenkamp lets her dreams of space travel come to full fruition. With a steady hand on her guitar, the Swedish artist steers us through the desert at night, through cosmic noises of space, and finally to the distant planet 55 Cancri e. Ranging from melancholic to hopeful, the music of 55 Cancri e is perhaps an expression of Hausenkamp’s longing for a better home planet, and for the possibility of escape. In creating these kinds of science fiction lullabies, she is preparing us for both the beauty and the sadness of a looming future. Using her voice mainly to hum or whistle along, she does however break the silence on a few tracks to sing in her native tongue. On "Rävjakt" she imagines a turning of the tables, where the fox hunters are chased out of the forest by the animals. "Alltid Du" is a tender and straightforward love song that has become the centre of her recent live performances. And on "55 Cancri e I (We Ran Away)" she switches over to English for the first time, where we find her in a slightly different voice. Often working with variations of recurring musical themes, Hausenkamp allows for subtle changes over a number of tracks to create a linear progression that unfolds as a whole in a hypnotic brew of folk-inspired pop. Saturating it all in a glistening atmosphere of both electronic and acoustic sounds as well as samples and field recordings, this album comes as a natural format for Hausenkamp to explore her ideas.

Currently enjoying heavy rotation on P3 (Denmark’s answer to Radio One), this summery anthem gets makeovers from Denmark’s Jazzbox, Greek duo Bonnie & Klein and from Mr Bager himself who teams up with Napoli-born producer extraordinaire Tuccinelli to give us not only a superb extended vocal mix but also an on-fire dub version of the track that’s sure to be a future classic both for the Balearic brigade and all lovers of funky downtempo dubbed-out weirdness. Elsewhere Jazzbox deliver a great uptempo beach boogie version full of soul and groove making great use of the unmistakeable voice of Damon Scott, known for his work with Storm Queen, while Bonnie & Klein produce a very special percussive jazzy dub mix. A three tracker from Copenhagen’s Music For Dreams and an unusual new house direction for this normally chilled/Balearic label, but all 3 tracks still have that definite White Isla feeling. James Moor’s ‘Spirits’ is an irresistible funky track in a Ten Walls vein, perfectly blending melodic bass with dark emotive elements - a killer for the dance floor. Electronic artist Hess is More's classic ‘Yes Boss’ (more than 9 million views on You Tube) is here revamped by Serge Devant with a very groovy b-line and mad vocals creating that after-hours DC10 feeling and already getting support from Jamie Jones. Born in Ibiza, Valentin Huedo is former resident DJ at Cafe Del Mar, now resident at Blue Marlin and this release is his debut for Music For Dreams. ‘Running On Grass’ is all flowing pads, rolling beats and a beautiful little melodic hook with spot-on production and an Innervisons feel.
