Known for their take on the gentler side of house music, jazz pianists, electronic enthusiasts and label founders of the Analogue Attic imprint, Albrecht La'Brooy have joined Night Tide's family with their latest sojourn "Emissary” EP. The release began with a concept from the artists, who asked for field recordings taken by Night Tide's Eluize from around her adopted home in Berlin. Sounds from parks, gardens, trains and stations that make up the local, everyday sonic landscape made their way across the Atlantic to arrive in Albrecht La'brooy's studio, where they were used as inspiration for the three outings on this record. The Melbourne duo's live approach to programming and arrangement can be heard as the tracks ebb and flow effortlessly. In "Tempelhof” sub swells and a throbbing kick accompany delicate leads and lightly touched drums. The more uptempo "Hinterhof” pulses and sways with lively percussion, crystalline bells, euphoric strings and softly spoken melodies that float in and out of view. "U-bahn / S-bahn” begins with glistening top lines and panoramic chords over a growling bass and a steady groove. As the journey rolls on from the underground into open-air window-gazing territory, the piece takes an ambient, beatless turn. Contemplative synth lines and arpeggios play while the station announcements drift somewhere in the distance. Photograph by Christophe Mauberqué.

Night Tide's sophomore release welcomes two new names to the family. THOMMYY RA and Simonn bring us the "Lost Journey" EP, a 6 tracker of analogue laden esoteric house. On the A, we have THOMMYY RA, label boss at Nasty Habits Tape Cltr and prone to a bi-annual name change, he contributed the silty SETH NK remix of Eluize's "Up All Night" on our label's debut record earlier this year. He opens with "Journey Into Nowhere", an eerie, coasting, synth drenched opus propelled by throbbing percussion and rippling leads, follows with "Die Darling Die" a 90s touched, left of centre house cut, complete with a skipping kick and playfully nostalgic horn, and wraps the side with creepy, deep and groove heavy "Razzy Moon". On the B, we introduce Simonn for his first excursion on wax. "Unknown Habits" is a straight up, tried-and-tested party piece, its vibrant chords pulse amongst thumping drums issuing an undeniable call to the floor. He then turns his hand to something more aquatic, amphibious pads swell in "Lost In Progress" while layering percussion build before erupting into a euphoric break beat. Finally, "Raw and Unbleached" is a delicate arpeggio outing, melodic ideas tumble and burst over one another, it's light and dreamy yet gritty, innocence in sound.

Introducing Talk in Technicolour, the debut release of cross-continental imprint Night Tide. Produced by label founder Eluize (Emma Sainsbury), the EP features three original tracks that showcase her unique sound. The release is rounded out by remixes from Hans Berg & Seth NK and a trippy spoken word recording discovered while digging in the archives. ‘Make Me Sin' swells and flows. It's a rapturous tale awash with cascading musical ideas, hypnotic rhythmic elements and a driving bottom end. This introspective cut combines orchestral instrumentation with breathy vocals from Eluize herself that sing of the lure of things that make us feel good. ‘Talk in Technicolor', the title track, is self-explanatory. It's a dreamy and melodic club cut that packs a surprising amount of punch. The vast palette of sounds and fine details give it a cinematic quality not often heard in music aimed at the dance floor. We recommend you close your eyes while listening - let your mind drift and see what soaring colours float into view. On the B side, ‘Up All Night' is a sub-driven slow down. Unhurried and uncluttered, key and string lines float through open space while gentle vocals slide into the landscape, reflecting on sunsets that turn into sunrises. Hans Berg reinterprets the piece into a powerfully deep techno storm. His version is a relentless and energetic pairing of synth lines that whip and scatter over the original's playful melodic refrains. In other words, a monster that presents a not-so-subtle call to rave. In addition, a batch of thirty records will come with a limited edition cassette. The tape features a remix of ‘Up All Night' by Seth NK, the master of all things lo-fi. His version is a sleazy re-imagining with trashy drums and murky tones that weave through the silt.
