Since 2007, when Txarly Brown (DJ and collector) started his Achilifunk project, spanish gipsy danceable sounds have returned to the front pages of music magazines. After two compilation albums "Achilifunk, Gipsy Soul 1969-1979", "Más Achilifunk, Gipsy Soul from the 21st Century", Txarly founded the Banda Achilifunk (a big band with 17 musicians on stage) and released the album "Gitano Real". Two years later he published the book "Achilibook" and now he has finally launched its pilot project: the Achilifunk Sound System. A small combo which brings together the best spanish gipsy funk performers to recreate a repertoire of classic sounds mixing flamenco rumba with hip hop, funk, dubstep, house, disco, ska, reggae... An outstanding long play released in collaboration with Wah Wah records in a 500 copies limited edition that comes with remastered sound and includes an insert with liner notes and photos.

At the time he recorded this album in 1957, Arnett Cobb was in the process of rebounding from a serious automobile accident that broke both his legs. Cobb's indomitable spirit shines through in these tracks, whether he is calmly preaching on "When My Dream Boat Comes Home", grooving down the "Lonesome Road", or roaring through the song that is almost as closely associated with him as it is with Illinois Jacquet — "Flying Home".There are plenty of good blues, too, and pianist Ray Bryant's eloquence in this idiom is well exposed. Ray Barretto's conga adds another flavor to the rhythm section, especially on "Cocktails for Two". With Ray Bryant, Wendell Marshall, Arthur Taylor and Ray Barretto.

Charlie Haden and Pat Metheny have been good friends since the 1970s, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that "Beyond The Missouri Sky" should be their first duet album together. Both musicians are from small towns in Missouri, which leads Metheny to speculate in the liner notes if this similarity of childhood ambience might have something to do with the two players' obvious love and affinity for each other. Whatever the answer, the result of this logical pairing is a rather somber and moody one. Metheny has a dark tone on his electric guitar, and on "Beyond The Missouri Sky", where he plays acoustic, his sound is similarly deep and rounded. Metheny has called Haden one of the greatest improvisers of all time, and although this may be hyperbolic exaggeration from a longtime friend, Haden has at least earned the right to defend the claim. On Beyond the Missouri Sky, his playing is as sensitive and beautiful as always. Although one can understand the vibe that Haden and Metheny were going for, the preponderance of slow and mid-tempo material can wear on the listener. When they eschew the dirge-like tempos, as on the fantastic "The Precious Jewel", the results are just as atmospheric and are, in fact, even more evocative of the Midwestern landscapes that are featured so prominently in the album art. With Metheny setting up a strummy rhythm, Haden plays the stately melody with impeccable tone. This track, one of many, also showcases Metheny overdubbing different guitars to thicken out the sound of the performance. The results are similar, at least in spirit, to Bill Frisell's recordings in the latter half of the 1990s. Although many Metheny and Haden compositions that are featured on this record, it is their readings of older material that are most effective. The Jimmy Webb classic "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress" is wonderfully nostalgic, as Metheny uses subtle guitar and synth washes to pad a beautiful duet performance, and the traditional "He's Gone Away" is the greatest lullaby that never was. Overall, "Beyond The Missouri Sky" is a fine record when the material is happening, but a bit of a chore when it is not.For the 1st time on vinyl, specially released for the Korean market!

Virtually all serious and even casual music lovers ought to be familiar with, or at least are likely to have heard The Dave Brubeck Quartet, even without realizing it — for the quartet's best-known hit "Take Five" has graced the soundtracks of multiple films, including "Mighty Aphrodite," "Pleasantville" and "Constantine." The piece is famous for its distinctive, catchy saxophone melody, as well as its use of unusual 5/4 time — so distinctive, it's a rare jazz track that became a pop hit.Including the monster hit "Take Five", the Brubeck Quartet's "Time Out" is a jazz and audiophile classic. Every album collection needs a copy. And now, cut at 33 1/3 RPM on 200-gram premium vinyl, pressed at Quality Record Pressings (Acoustic Sounds' own industry-lauded LP manufacturer), Analogue Productions brings you "Time Out" renewed.Like its 45 RPM sibling, "Time Out" is presented here packaged in a deluxe gatefold jacket. Inside are eight fantastic black and white images shot during the recording session at Columbia's famous 30th Street Studios. Sony Music supplied the images for use in our SACD reissue, and gave us persmission to use them in our LP reissue as well. The jacket is also special — very heavy-duty. It's produced for us by Stoughton Printing featuring a printed wrap mounted to a heavyweight chipboard shell, producing an authentic ‚old school‘ look and feel. This jacket is a beauty! Never has "Time Out's" colorful iconic cover art looked so vibrant. The record label's sales executives didn't want a painting on the cover when "Time Out" debuted in 1959 on Columbia Records, Brubeck told an interviewer. An entire album of originals? That wouldn't work either, he was told. Some standards and some show tunes were needed in the mix. Fortunately, Brubeck ignored the conventional wisdom and "Time Out" became the original classic we know it as today. Brubeck became proof that creative jazz and popular success can go together. The album was intended as an experiment using musical styles Brubeck discovered abroad while on a United States Department of State-sponsored tour of Eurasia. In Turkey, he observed a group of street musicians performing a traditional Turkish folk song that was played in 9/8 time, a rare meter for Western music. Paul Desmond, who was Brubeck's alto saxophonist, wrote "Take Five“, at Brubeck's urging to try and write a song in quintuple (5/4) time. "Time Out" peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard pop albums chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. "Take Five" became a mainstream hit, reaching No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 5 on Billboard's Easy Listening survey, the precursor to today's Adult Contemporary charts. The song was included in countless movies and television soundtracks and still receives significant radio play.

Material from Joe McPhee's personal archives that shines new light on the legendary multi-instrumentalist’s work from the early 1980s. “Wind Cycles,” for tenor saxophone, explores the permutations of breath on reed and brass, from quiet whispers to full-throated cries and back again. With “The Redwood Rag,” McPhee takes a jaunty melody and gives it a swinging workout with Steve Lacy-like precision. The free-blowing alto excursion “Ice Blu,” is in McPhee’s words, “a sound which evokes an image, which asks a question ‘What is that?’ and the answer is, a sound which evokes an image which asks a question.” “Voices,” one of his signature compositions, gets a particularly haunting treatment here on soprano with the incorporations of mesmerizing electronics. Includes a download coupon for the full album plus a bonus interview, conducted at the New Music America Festival in 1981.

Here is one of the musical giants of the 20th century, poised on the precipice of greatness. Between the spring of 1957 and the winter of 1958, during which time "Lush Life" was recorded, the music of tenor saxophonist John Coltrane (1926-1967) was developing in giant steps, thanks in great part to a six-month 1957 stint with Thelonious Monk that had much to do with sharpening Coltrane’s harmonic conception and torrential attack."Lush Life" contains Coltrane’s first recordings as sole leader, his initial date fronting a pianoless trio, and one of his first extended readings of a ballad, Billy Strayhorn’s resplendent title track. We also hear him at the helm of a quartet and quintet, featuring pianist Red Garland, with trumpeter Donald Byrd, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Louis Hayes added to “Lush Life”. Coltrane handles the tune’s delicate complexities with infinite style and finesse.Coltrane and jazz would never be the same.

They have received massive support both in the clubs and on the airwaves and now they are back, with on the flipside the help of Lack of Afro, or Adam Gibbons as he's known to his psychiatrist. Two pistol paced and good-natured tunes as they are very capable of. A Side - WONDER ZEBRA Somewhere between retro psychedelia and afrobeat lies the Wonder Zebra. Speeding along à la Calibro 35, the feel is frantic and thrilleresque. Now wonder Kind & Kinky Zoo are a big hit on foreign TV shows. B Side - V.L.A.M. (LOA remix) A breezy bite-sike chunk of head nodding, foot tapping funky beats. Led by a warm, sunny flute and irresistable rhodes, rather reminiscent of a 60s slice of dancefloor-friendly acid jazz. Saving the distance, since Le Système Crapoutchik have a unique sound of their own that makes it hard to compare to anything else - and even not having such a baroque production - this LP could be the French equivalent to Billy Nichols "Would You Believe". Guitarist Lee Ritenour decided to celebrate his 50th year as a guitar player by inviting a bevy of name guitarists into the studio to jam out some tunes, all in the name of love for their chosen instrument. Ritenour's subsequent album, 2010's "6 String Theory", is just that, a varied celebration on the many styles and players who have utilized the guitar. The result is an expansive, ambitious, but never belabored album that touches on jazz, blues, funk, and rock and expands beyond the usual Ritenour approach while remaining true to his unique six-string sound. To these ends, Ritenour duets with such artists as contemporary bluesman Keb' Mo', fusion/post-bop legend Pat Martino, and blues icon B.B. King, as well as George Benson, Slash, Mike Stern, and others. To say this is an all-star affair is an understatement and fortunately, while the album never overplays to expectations, it nonetheless delivers on Ritenour's promise of a guitar celebration.

The long fabled ‘Elisabetta’ project, conceived by Giuseppe Alcheri, scored by Marco Segreti and eventually cancelled entirely by shady producers has long been lamented by fans of Italian Cinema and Disco aficionados alike. ‘Elisabetta’ was to be a return to Alcheri’s erotic thriller roots after (what some may consider talent wasted in) the Euro-Crime genre of the late 70s. Though, despite the predictable trappings of previous efforts, Alcheri’s flair for stylised dramatics and profound statements on the human condition bubbled under the surface, even in films such as “Legge Rotto” and “Sono Unica Difesa di Questa Città”, but it was the melancholic power of early hits such as “Angelo Della Pelle” or “Pianto Vergine” that serious fans were crying out for. All of which was to be delivered with ‘Elisabetta’ which promised to be his most ambitious and emotional film in years. Concerning a writer driven to suicide by a lost love, told mostly through typewriter monologues, conversations with “Little Grey”, a pigeon and late night cruises through the discotheques of the mid 1980s, ‘Elisabetta’ was to be an epic poem on the nature of love and fidelity, sadly lost much like the lover in the film. Marco Segreti’s credentials should need no introduction, originally the drummer and leader of “Bruciando Roma” a group of anarcho-session musicians, playing on many 70s disco hits, the synthesizer revolution of the 1980s allowed him to break out into independence. Dripping with vintage reverbs and mourning melodies, the soundtrack, presented here for the first time ever is all that remains of this remarkable project. Restored from the original tapes by Ruud Lekx. This essential, obscure masterpiece is not to be missed.

Eunice Kathleen Waymon recorded more than 40 albums over a long, distinguished career that stretched for five decades. As Nina Simone, her distinctive mellifluous voice honed a career catagorized variously as a jazz singer, soul singer and folk artist; she was all of these — and more. "Little Girl Blue“ was Nina Simone's debut release. Bethlehem founder Gus Wildi, taken with the uniquely beautiful quality of her voice, gave her complete control over song selection, backing musicians, arrangements and production of the recording. For this new Analogue Productions reissue of "Little Girl Blue“ we've upped the ante. A single pocket jacket to suffice? No. We've done the lady right with a heavy Stoughton Printing tip-on gatefold jacket featuring gorgeous color photos of Nina from a glamorous stage performance. And the peerless mastering by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound in New York sounds incredible. Then top it off with 200-gram Quality Record Pressings vinyl that is unsurpassingly silent and gives incredibly rich playback. As the liner notes say, there are plenty of musical singers who vocalize well and have an individual style but who never cross that thin and hard-to-define line that separates a good 'pop‘ style from one that is jazz. The first few notes of this record will immediately confirm Nina's jazz credentials. As she said, »You got to get to people.« That she does with a vibrant and husky contralto that tonally sounds like a blend of an unlikely combination of Marian Anderson and Ma Rainey. Her unusual combination of classical training, the ecstatic and serious quality of gospel church music that influenced her vocal delivery, and the funky and modern schools of jazz with which she came into close contact all made for an inspiring singer and instrumentalist. For "Little Girl Blue“, Nina and her rhythm section recorded the entire album plus three additional tracks in just one session. In her biography of Nina, Nadine Cohodas recounts engineer Irv Greeenbaum's recollection of that day: »Nothing like Nina's artistry had ever happened before ... Her voice and the keyboard playing were so rich and interesting that they could have stood alone.«"Little Girl Blue“ documents Nina Simone's unparalleled and idiosyncratic musical persona at a particularly vibrant, formative stage, and helped launch her on a trajectory with more than its share of personal and professional trials and triumphs.

Guitarist Rolando Bruno hails from Buenos Aires and got his start playing a raw brand of Garage and Punk with his band Los Peyotes. A few years back he took a step into the not-so-distant world of Afro-Peruvian Psicodelico that's had a recent renaissance throughout South America. What made his early forays into a more tropical branch of fuzz so unique was his accompanying band-or lack thereof. Armed with an electric guitar and self-produced and recorded backing tracks, Rolando Bruno and his Orquesta MIDI jet-setted across Europe and Japan as a mad scientist one-man band, laying down a relentless style of Chicha Classica gone loopy that earned him several tours and a full-length album with the Swiss imprint, Voodoo Rhythm. Originally recorded in 2011 and now remastered and presented by Names You Can Trust on vinyl for the first time, these two tracks are a glimpse into Rolando's prolific electric madness and a lysergic-laced pointer towards things to come from the talented six-stringer.

Mississippi's Son House was already legendary for a small collection of live field recordings made by folklorist Alan Lomax in 1941 and 1942, and for having taught some important licks to both Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters before he was rediscovered by a new generation of college-age fans in 1964.The 'Father of the Delta Blues' recorded this namesake LP for Columbia Records a year later in 1965. It's become, in the words of Living Blues magazine — »Essential recordings by one of the greatest bluesmen ever.« And now, Analogue Productions presents a reissue unmatched in sonic quality and luxury presentation. For our version we turned to Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound to remaster the recording from the original master tapes. The freshly cut lacquers were then plated and pressed on 200-gram vinyl by our own Quality Record Pressings.Son was born Eddie James House, Jr., on March 21, 1902, in Riverton, Miss. By the age of 15, he was preaching the gospel in various Baptist churches as the family seemingly wandered from one plantation to the next. He didn't even bother picking up a guitar until he turned 25; to quote House, »I didn't like no guitar when I first heard it; oh gee, I couldn't stand a guy playin' a guitar. I didn't like none of it.« But if his ambivalence to the instrument was obvious, even more obvious was the simple fact that Son hated plantation labor even more and had developed a taste for corn whiskey. After drunkenly launching into a blues at a house frolic in Lyon, Miss., one night and picking up some coin for doing it, the die seemed to be cast; Son House may have been a preacher, but he was part of the blues world now.

This is a second selection of independent disco records featuring rare and classic tracks originally released in the USA between the halcyon years of 1977 and 1985. This release features only the finest disco, modern soul and boogie and is compiled by Disco Patrick who last year put together for Soul Jazz Records the mighty ‘Disco – An Encyclopedic Guide to the Cover Art of Disco Records’ 400+ page deluxe book, as well as the first installment of ‘Disco – A Fine Selection of Independent Disco, Modern Soul and Boogie.’This album is released as a double CD, as well as two separate volumes of double vinyl (plus free download codes) and a worldwide digital release. This album features rare, classic and in-demand tracks from the mighty vaults of labels such as New York’s Salsoul and Miami’s TK Records – which during the main disco era became the main competitors to the major established record industry – through to killer virtually unknown tracks released on tiny bespoke one-off labels, now impossible to find either in the history books or record shops of the world. Before its mainstream consumption in the late 1970s, Disco first emerged from independent record companies run by lovers of this new sound and on which this album is focused: Patrick Adams and Peter Brown, the powerhouse musical partnership based up in Harlem, New York; Henry Stone at TK, a man with a 30-year old career distributing black music; or the Cayre brothers at Salsoul, linking Latin roots with the deep, soulful music emerging from Philadelphia and New York.In fact, as we can see on this album, Harlem was to prove a fertile ground of nascent independent disco with numerous young producers, alongside the leaders of the pack Patrick Adams and Peter Brown, hustling to release one-off or a couple of singles on their own independent labels. All the music on this album has been sonically and digitally remastered with love and is presented complete with sleevenotes, original label artwork and full-length extended disco editions.

With his astonishingly accomplished guitar playing, Stevie Ray Vaughan ignited the blues revival of the '80s. Vaughan drew equally from bluesmen like Albert King, Otis Rush and Hubert Sumlin and rock 'n' roll players like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, as well as the stray jazz guitarist like Kenny Burrell, developing a uniquely eclectic and fiery style that sounded like no other guitarist, regardless of genre. The "Sky Is Crying" was released after SRV's 1990 helicopter crash that took his life. The posthumously assembled 10-track outtakes collection actually proves to be one of Vaughan's most consistent albums, rivaling "In Step" as the best outside of the Greatest Hits collection. These songs were recorded in sessions spanning from 1984's "Couldn't Stand The Weather" to 1989's "In Step" and were left off of the LPs for whatever reason (or, in the case of "Soul To Soul's" "Empty Arms", a different version was used). What makes the record work is its eclectic diversity — Vaughan plays slide guitar on "Boot Hill" and acoustic on "Life By The Drop"; he smokes on the slow blues of "May I Have A Talk With You" and the title track just as much as on the up-tempo Lonnie Mack cover, "Wham"; and he shows the jazzy side of his playing on Hendrix's "Little Wing" and Kenny Burrell's "Chitlins Con Carne".»Check out Vaughan's jazz chops on Kenny Burrell's "Chitlins Con Carne", and Hendrix's "Little Wing", arguably this collection's most staggering achievement, alternately whisper-sweet and screamingly fierce«, says The Absolute Sound. Other tips of the hat are to Muddy Waters, Lonnie Mack ("Wham"), Elmore James, and Albert King (the title track), yet each song is pure, unleashed SRV. The sound is big, bold, up front, and clean as a whistle. Vaughan's different tonal shadings — from warmly purring, to raggedly distorted, to wasp-tailed sting, plus a rare acoustic turn on the gorgeous closer, "Life By The Drop" — are all superbly captured, and the drums and bass have plenty of clarity and wallop. As TAS says, »A brilliant musical document … if a sad reminder.«As we did with our vaunted box set reissues, "Texas Hurricane", again Analogue Productions is bringing you the finest-sounding Stevie Ray Vaughan collections ever preserved on 200-gram vinyl. Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound cut the lacquers for the LPs using the ultimate VMS 80 cutting lathe. Gary Salstrom handled the plating and the vinyl was pressed of course at Quality Record Pressings. There's not a link in this chain that wasn't absolute first-rate. The absolute best that money can buy. We're passionate about the blues and Stevie Ray and the passion shows up here in spades.

An essential guide to the Dancehall Reggae/Hip-Hop clash that ruled New York in the early 1990s as Shinehead, Supercat, Mad Lion, Bobby Konders and many more rewrote the rules of Dancehall, Reggae and Rap. Killer heavyweight tracks, non-stop. Essential! From Kool Herc onwards, Jamaicans who grew up in New York City have played pivotal roles in the development of the city’s musical identity. Hip-Hop, born in the Bronx, was always hot-wired to Jamaica and in the 1990s the two became inextricably joined when reggae met rap in New York City.??Dynamite NYC brings together the many artists who created this unique scene, linking together two of the world’s most important musical cultures – hip-hop and reggae.?In the early 1990s, Jamaican dancehall - including artists from this home-grown New York scene - became the subject of close scrutiny by the US major record industry who, having made vast profits from hip-hop, searched out Jamaican or Jamaican-descended artists who could potentially crossover into the vast US hip-hop market. Jamaican dancehall artists were signed to big US contracts (Yellowman, Supercat, Capleton, Shabba Ranks). And New York, previously a satellite town of Kingston for visiting Jamaican artists, but now with its own unique dancehall scene became a focal point as artists such as Shinehead, Red Foxx, Jamal-Ski, Mad Lion, and others were quickly signed up to major record companies.??100%Dynamite NYC features these and many other New York reggae/hip-hop crossover artists in this first album to feature the music from this scene.
