In 1979 Kevin Stone got a phone call asking if his PA could be hired. The customer was a local lad called Nick Kane. A love affair of music soon blossomed and Essex two became good friends. Their mutual love of Soul and Jazz funk made them form a 10 piece band called Afrika. Kevin played keyboards, with Nick playing bass and vocals. But with the local public house music licence's being strict and stating that only a 3 piece bands could play in a pub without a licence the pair decided to down size so they could get regular gigs. They had a lot of local success and was asked to perform on a regional talent show called City Sounds. Here they made the grand final, and came in as runners. They cut one single independently under the name of Afrika and entitled "i want you tonight"On the discovery of this single a few months ago Dj Sigher of Super Disco Edits found the group and arranged a meeting. Both men still remaining good friends attended the meeting. We spent hours chatting about good times and listening to lots and lots of old tapes. Both Kevin and Nick discussing past members, songs and recording sessions in studios, using the graveyard shift like so many musicians trying to record on a budget. We got tons of songs to go through but our first double sider we introduce the amazing "Dont waste your time". A brilliant feel good modern brit funk track that heralds back to the sound of Freeze/Level 42 etc.. On the b-side is the song they reach the grand final of City Sounds talent show with, called "In my arms". Both songs are of course in keeping with Super Disco Edits catalogue and are UN-ISSUED before. We hope you enjoy them as much as we are!

Initially best known as John Coltrane's wife, Alice Coltrane released a steady wave of amazing cosmic-jazz records from 1967 to 2004, which feature her virtuosic piano and harp playing. She also recorded an album with Carlos Santana and played with Kenny Clarke, McCoy Tyner and Charlie Haden. 'Turiya Sings' was a self-released cassette, issued in 1982 and a hard-to-find collector's item since then. It features Alice Coltrane on vocals and organ, with string arrangements by Murray Adler. This LP-reissue was newly remastered for optimal sound.

“I’m the one, you don’t have to look any further. I’m the one. I’m here, right here for you,” oozes jazz, rock, and electronic music pioneer Annette Peacock on the leadoff title track of her solo debut LP. The album’s wide range of vocal emotions and diverse sonic palette (featuring Robert Moog’s early modular synthesizers, which the singer actually transmitted her voice through to wild effect) places it firmly at the forefront of the pop avant-garde. Originally released by RCA Victor in 1972 to widespread critical acclaim, I’m The One found itself amongst good company. Both Lou Reed and David Bowie had recently signed to the label—Bowie in particular was enamored with Annette—and artists ranging from ex-husband and jazz great Paul Bley, along with notable Brazilian percussionists Airto Moreira and Dom Um Romao, guested on the album itself. Writing and arranging I’m The One’s nine passionate tracks—bar a unique cover of Elvis Presley’s “Love Me Tender”— the disc grooves easily from free jazz freak-outs and rough and rugged blues-funk to gently pulsing synthesized bliss. The second release on our Future Days Recordings imprint, I’m The One is returning to better record shops on CD and LP formats, re-mastered from the original tapes with an insert containing beautiful unseen photos from the vaults of Sony Music and extensive liner notes from NYC-based writer and musician, Mikey ‘IQ’ Jones. An extension of Annette’s late 1960s work with her Bley-Peacock Synthesizer Show combo, I’m The One is filled with strength and power, as well as a tender, sensual, and seductive side, born of a life surrounded with music and culture. Composing by age four, Peacock’s mother was a professional violinist. By the early 1960s, Annette had also collaborated with first husband, jazz bassist Gary Peacock and toured with legendary saxophone player Albert Ayler. Studying under Zen macrobiotics educator Michio Kushi and a confidant to Timothy Leary at the Millbrook psychedelic center, Peacock later worked, post-I’m The One, with rock stalwarts like guitarists Mick Ronson and Chris Spedding, Yes/King Crimson drummer Bill Bruford, as well as surrealist artist Salvador Dali. Light years ahead of her early 1970s contemporaries in terms of individuality and uncompromising vision, the album makes today’s major label computer generated fabrications an embarrassment to listeners worldwide. Still to this day, Annette remains a passionate advocate, an enigma caught between the peace and love vibrations of a hippy counterculture and the more worldly intelligence of the modern age. Her records continue to influence and inspire, and with I’m The One finally back on the shelves, countless new jacks on the scene can scope its liner notes and bear witness to its brilliance.

‘This Is My Chance’ lay dormant until the late 90s when it was included on an Ace CD of Excello southern soul material. That series was aimed mainly at ballad fans but Gentry’s mid-tempo charms made it ideal for the modern soul dance scene. The Kent promo 12” issued at the time is now an in-demand piece of vinyl. Mystery surrounds who wrote Shirley Brown’s ‘Even If The Signs Are Wrong’ but this splendid, lilting soul song deserves a vinyl release.

Funk is a dish best served hot and these two modern funk anthems are bound to get your body temperature up. “Cupid’s Arrow” recounts a tale of genuine love at first sight over an infectious synth funk groove, it’s honest and true to life content make it very relate-table to anyone who has been awestruck by a woman’s beauty. “Let Your Body Show you How” is an up-tempo modern funk tune that covers the story of a young man who conquers a high school crush after a chance meeting. The songs hypnotic bass line and hard-hitting drums are well complemented by Asterix Music’s silky vocals.

Seminal early 70's Bahamian Funk of the highest order! The debut LP from the Munnings brothers legendary outfit. "Funky Nassau" is one of the most sought after Soul/Funk records ever with it's highly original blend of US black music styles and Bahamian roots. A very famous band in their native Nassau, the group only had 2 full length albums under their belts along with a slew of 45 singles but have managed to stamp their name on the ears and minds of record lovers since they first burst onto the scene. The obvious track to reference here is the title track "Funky Nassau" a breakbeat fuelled monster dance cut that has supplied hungry samplers with sounds for decades (everyone from The Prodigy & The Roots among those who have used the cavernous drum break!), the rest of this excellent LP also includes the amazing Funk of "Come Down" and a whole host of other brilliant sun-drenched tracks. Absolutely essential. Here's your chance to own a true classic! You'd be hard pressed to find another well rounded debut LP, this one is pure joy from start to finish. The LP has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. Not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of Miami's TK Disco empire. Now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the Munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality.

Charles Mingus is usually known for his wild, soulful and avant-garde compositions. "East Coasting" is mellow by comparison, but it still cooks on a musical level. The Mingus touches are there; the trombone, drummer Danny Richmond and of course the dark emotional undercurrent looms large, too. The personnel are all Mingus regulars, except for pianist Bill Evans, who would not be described as 'soulful' in the traditional sense, but his introverted and sensitive style works well with Mingus's music. His playing on "West Coast Ghost" (the album's stand-out track) and "Celia" are two examples of Evans' ability to understand an artist's musical vision and play accordingly in his own beautifully original style.?"East Coasting" sounds like the prototypical 1950s jazz recording. It's something one would hear in an attic converted to a bedroom where an artist or lonely soul might live. It's what a lot of people might believe Jazz would or should sound like. Highly recommended to Jazz lovers and perhaps more importantly to young people who have just been blown away by Kerouac's novel "On The Road" and have become interested in exploring Jazz. "East Coasting" will allow them to get a taste of lost creative America. Recording: August 1957 in New York City

This brilliant 1972 album from UK 70s funk outfit Cymande (pronounced Sah-mahn-day) has been heralded as the best Brit Funk album of all time.Taking influences from their Guyanese and Jamaican roots they fused reggae influenced basslines, Afro-tinted Nyabinghi percussion, psychedelic touches and American style funk instrumentation creating a unique sound which the band referred to as nyah-rock.Their tracks later became a mainstay of block parties and hip hop break samples. This, their debut, boasted perhaps their best-known funk anthem The Message and the much-sampled Bra, adopted by pioneering DJs like DJ Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash before being plundered by De La Soul, The Wu-Tang Clan, The Coup and The Fugees to name but a few. They stand today as one of the most sampled black British bands ever cropping up on Hip Hop, House and Dance 12”s all over the World.

Danny Offia’s Funk With Me is a prime slab of Nigerian Boogie. Sinewy and urbane, it’s the soundtrack of Lagos in the early eighties. The city was awash with oil money, clubs were booming and every night was a party night – the perfect place for a man with a great voice, a white suit and seductively-clutched packet of B&H Golds. Funk With Me was recorded in London with a crack team of session musicians. Drummer Blair Cunningham was from Memphis and had played with Robert Johnson. Sax player Ray Carless was regarded as the London jazz scene’s best-kept secret. Engineer Duncan Bridgeman would go on to work with Duran Duran. Danny Offia brought the songs and the Lagos attitude. ‘Funk With Me’ is a certified party starter. ’10 Years In Love’ and ‘Weak For You’ are sophisticated groovers. ‘Sat Nite (Is A Party Nite)’ is guaranteed to get any girl on the dancefloor, while ‘Don’t Make Me Cry’ is smooth enough take her home. Funk With Me is Lagos in an album – cosmopolitan, sexy and witty with an energy and spirit, all of its own. - Peter Moore

With over two decades of experience and a work ethic bordering on obsessive, Show presents the fruits of his endless days and nights digging through dusty record basements and thrift store dollar bins all culminating in this classic beat tape. A slight variation on the typical producer album, Show digs deep into his personal arsenal to unearth true gems and adds just the right amount of production to keep the mix moving and to highlight the best parts of each record. Thirty banging beats in all, this ain't no lazy DJ filler mix of tracks that every jock is playing. This is pure heat and Show comes correct as he has definitely sifted through his personal milkcrates. This is beat digging at its finest from a name you've trusted since Showbiz was selling "Soul Clap" out the trunk.

When Ellington went into the studio in 1950 to record the longer tracks on this LP, his orchestra was a bridge between its late-1940's configuration (the 5-man trumpet section) and its mid-1950's personnel. The sax section had settled into the form it would have for most of the ensuing two decades (old-timers Hodges and Carney and newcomers Procope, Hamilton and Gonsalves); the trombone section had long-timer Lawrence Brown as well as Tyree Glenn and newcomer Quentin Jackson; and the drummer was still Sonny Greer, who had anchored the rhythm section since the beginning. The arrangements and orchestrations all bear the hallmarks of Ellington's collaboration with Billy Strayhorn in the late 1940's: they are lush, symphonic, impressionistic, and densely (and adventurously) harmonic. "Mood Indigo", in particular, is a 15-minute tone-poem with shifting colors and key relationships as Ellington and Strayhorn bring the melody through a wide variety of guises, from Glenn's wah-wah trombone solo to Shorty Baker's lyrical waltz to orchestral and piano passages which do homage to the influence which Ravel and Stravinsky had on both of them. "The Tattooed Bride" is the only new piece from the original "Masterpieces by Ellington" LP, and it is a beauty. The others of the original tracks -- "Sophistocated Lady" and "Solitude" -- are not laid out as inventively in their harmonics or structure. Of the group, "Solitude" is perhaps the weakest, but this is a relative term. Ellington would go on to pen many more extended, symphonic works, but none would have quite the multicolored, impressionistic tone-pallate that these do. And Strayhorn's presence would not be as pronounced in those future works as it is here: the orchestration and harmonies in particular bear his mark. These are masterpieces indeed: great works of art by two of our greatest composers/orchestrators, and played by one of the greatest orchestras in Afro-American music. Andrew R. Weiss

Another classic from the West End archives! Forrrce's "Keep On Dancin" from 1982 was a huge record across the board from Bronx block parties to the Paradise Garage in NYC and DJ Harvey's "Moist" nights in London town, it's popularity was bolstered by a fierce Francois K dub mix on the B-side that stripped the record right back to it's most basic elements with a healthy dose of reverb assisted psychedelia thrown in for good measure! This killer cowbell led Boogie jam has always been a big hit with Disco freaks and continues to sound fresh some 30+ years later even making it's way into veteran UK DJ and music historian Sean P's "100 Boogie Essentials 1980-1984" list. High praise indeed! Re-mastered from original tape transfers, re-pressed and made available again for 2015 in conjunction with West End Records, New York City.

This is the peak of George Benson's courtship of the mass market -- a superbly crafted and performed pop album with a large supporting cast -- and wouldn't you know that Quincy Jones, the master catalyst, is the producer. Q's regular team, including the prolific songwriter Rod Temperton and the brilliant engineer Bruce Swedien, is in control, and Benson's voice, caught beautifully in the rich, floating sound, had never before been put to such versatile use. On "Moody's Mood", Benson really exercises his vocalese chops and proves that he is technically as fluid as just about any jazz vocalist, and he become a credible rival to Al Jarreau on the joyous title track. Benson's guitar now plays a subsidiary role -- only two of the ten tracks are instrumentals -- but Q has him play terrific fills behind the vocals and in the gaps, and the engineering gives his tone a variety of striking, new, full-sounding timbres. The instrumentals themselves are marvelous: "Off Broadway" is driving and danceable, and Ivan Lins' "Dinorah, Dinorah" grows increasingly seductive with each play. Benson should have worked with Jones from this point on, but this would be their only album together.

Another pair of underground Disco dance classics get treated to the MM reworking magic! "This Time Baby" is exclusive to this release and never before released. Both edits are 100% official and licensed from Sony Music Group.Jazz funk synth master George Duke's absolutely stellar "I want you for myself" gets teased out into a monster extended 8 minute plus dance-floor killer! As usual Mike has treated the track with the utmost respect, touching on all the right elements he extends everything in just the right way with the DJ's and dancers planted firmly within his mind. A beautiful edit, the track just oozes class! "I want you for myself" was already a hugely loved classic and this 2016 reworking will only help to solidify in the minds of old school Disco heads and newcomers alike! This cut has long been revered, getting spins from DJ's like Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage to our very own DJ Harvey (the track was an anthem at his infamous "Moist" parties in the early 90's). Essential edit action here from one of the modern masters of the art-form!On the b-side lies another stone cold classic - Jackie Moore's "This time baby" - this edit has never been released on any other format and is exclusive to this release - it's yet another Loft/Garage anthem again touched up by Mike Maurro with love and respect! Originally perform by Philly legends The O-Jays Jackie's version ramps the energy right up to the roof! A long time Chicago club staple that found it's home in the hands of jocks like Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy Mike Maurro's 2016 mix focusses on the amazing orchestration, piano refrain and percussion breaks, making it an absolute dream for DJ's to mix with it's dubbed out snatches of Moore's vocals for almost 3 minutes before dropping us into the song full blast! A real Disco roof raiser and a beautifully executed mix that breathes new life into this track. If you're a lover of all things DISCO, these edits will no doubt whet you appetite for more of Mike's mixes, utterly essential reworkings for 2016's dance-floors. Snoozing on these EP's is not advised!

HUGE record alert! Possibly one of the rarest (and funkiest!) jams on the legendary West End label! "Touch Your Life" is an elusive beast, co-produced and mixed by Bert Reid (Crown Heights Affair, Empress) and steeped in low slung, spaced out electronic Funk, this 1982 release is surely one of the most sought after in the labels catalog. A slick quiet storm number featuring the ultra smooth, laid back vocals of the Millers backed with some serious synthed-out grooves, a real beauty of a track that will appeal to all Disco, Soul, Electro-Funk and Boogie heads alike. Both the vocal mix and the instrumental are featured here just like the original 12" release.

Absolutely flawless Boogie sounds on NYC's SAM Records from 1982, Greg Henderson's "Dreamin" was licensed from the tiny Rain Records label and no doubt gained some invaluable exposure to the early 80's post Disco club scene that was in full swing at that time. Breezy, soulful, sweet and most importantly of all - funky, "Dreamin" is an absolute pleasure to the ears.Greg Henderson only released a handful of records during his career (including the incredible Henderson & Whitfield - "Dancing to the beat") and was also involved in the production of some other classic Boogie rarities (Masterforce - "Don't Fight The Feeling" , Rome Jeffries - "Good Love"). "Dreamin" has always been a sought after record, often fetching collectors prices of £100 - £200 a time. A sublime cut for all lovers of Disco, Boogie, Funk and Modern Soul. Now made available again, legitimately licensed, remastered and reissued in conjunction with SAM Records New York City.

Yet another solid Soul/Funk nugget lifted from the vaults of Miami's CAT Records (Another T.K. Disco subsidiary). Often sampled, re-edited & re-jigged but never bettered! Gwen McCrae's all time classic "All This Love I'm Giving" finally see's a timely repress, just as God intended, on a dinked 45 with all original artwork intact! That's right, you may recognize this number from Cassius' 1999 hit "Feelin' For You" but this track has long been a staple of rare groove dances & sophisticated soul parties with discerning DJ's & selectors clamoring for the original 45 at any cost. Backed here with it's original b-side slow jam "Maybe I'll Find Somebody New" this rare 45 has been re-mastered, re-pressed & brought back for 2015's dance-floors in conjunction & with the permission of T.K. Disco / Henry Stone Music, Miami USA.
