Pioneer was established in 1938 in Tokyo as Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho. One year earlier, in 1937, Nozomu Matsumoto developed the A-8 dynamic speaker. In the early years, the Pioneer predecessor company successfully produced speakers such as the PE-8 that was introduced in 1953. In 1961, Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho changed its name to Pioneer, just to introduce the world’s first separate stereo system one year later. Another milestone in the Pioneer history was the LaserDisc that was developed since the early 1970s. In 1996, Pioneer introduced the world’s first DVD/LD/CD compatible player for home use. Today, Pioneer is known for producing some of the finest home electronics items, including DVD/Blue-Ray drives.
