Release:2016 / Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
steemed and highly respected house music DJ, remixer, producer and acclaimed label boss Jesse Rose is next up on Seth Troxler’s Play It Say It imprint with the a stellar new release in the shape of ‘The Beast EP’. The Barcelona / L.A. based Londoner offers two powerful tracks, whilst influential US producer Brett Johnson remixes in fine style.Jesse Rose has been a pivotal dance music figure in his long and storied career. From holding down a residency at the revered Panorama Bar in Berlin to putting out an esteemed entry in the fabric mix series via countless remixes (of everyone from Underworld to Kendrick Lamar) and trend setting EPs on labels like Classic, Get Physical and most recently This and That, he has really done it all. In addition he has also headed up his own Play It Down label and as such has been responsible for bringing through numerous new and exciting talents.Already getting played by the likes of Oliver $, Davide Squillace and Riva Starr, one track from this excellent new EP, ’Black Twitter,’ has been described by Claude von Stroke as a “massive track for me, (it) has the whole crowd whistling every time I play it,” so when coupled with Rose’s currently high flying remix of Michel de Hey on Rejected, you have all the proof you need that he is as in demand as ever.Opener ‘The Beast’ is further testament to that fact. It is a fat bottomed house track with a wonky bassline, loopy subs and curious synth sounds all making for a freaky affair. Melodies rain down the face and the whole thing is perfectly mischievous and playful. Next up ‘Black Twitter’ is more direct and striking, with crisp hits, hard hitting drum loops and skeletal percussive patterns. Smart use of filters and a great arrangement make it full of promise and punchiness, and when it drops it doesn’t take much to imagine whole clubs, warehouses or festival crowds going wild.Stepping up to deliver a killer remix of ‘The Beast’ is US production heavyweight Brett Johnson has an accomplished discography that takes in labels like Classic Music Company, Magnetic, 20/20 Vision, Get Physical, Visionquest, Freerange, Cynosure, F-Communications and more. Aside from a busy remix schedule, Brett is currently releasing his music on the labels such as Edible, Classic Music Company, Cuttin Headz, Holic Trax and a few select others. Here his sterling remix is a smooth and seductive number with a left of centre feel in its smeared chords, barrelling beats and alarm-like synth sounds and is a perfect counter point to the original.

Seth Troxler’s agenda setting Play It Say It label is back with another massive release, this time coming from a group of Detroit heavyweights. Featuring a lead track from Andy Toth & Billy Love, it is packed with essential remixes from Chuck Daniels, Andrés & Midnite Jackers.Andy Toth was part of Detroit Grand Pubahs and Billy Love is a singer from Detroit who added vocals to seminal tracks by Underground Resistance. Together they have help their city’s electronic music earn its enviable reputation on the world stage, and here Billy tells a story informed by his time as a male revue dancer at a legendary strip club called Watts Club Mozambique. The standout original here, which had a low-key release a few years ago, ’Thrillseekers,’ is an off-beat house number with fresh synth stabs and popping drums that come with steamy vocals. It’s future facing and soul infused and is the sort of characterful cut that will mark the highlight of any set.Up first with the remixes, Sample Recordings main man Chuck Daniels shows off his Detroit credentials with a driving and late night, smooth and seductive take that is filled with warm machine soul. Pre-release this classic Detroit groove has been getting lots of support from Eats Everything, Riva Star and Seth Troxler. The second sizzling remix comes from Detroit’s Andrés, a key artist on Moodymann’s Mahogany label who has put out three seminal albums as well as many killer jams on his own La Vida. His hip hop indebted style is here in all its glory once more, with loose and rough drums jammed out on an MPC and interwoven with gorgeous jazz chords and a noodling bassline.Already released and doing lots of damage on worldwide dance floors, the Midnite Jackers remix is nearly eight minutes of rough and ready, attitude riddled house with fat bass, rude vocals and a wonky feel that will add plenty of freakiness to any party. This is a Detroit heavy single featuring some of the Motor City’s finest talents, and is set to be one of the big record of the summer without a doubt.

Play It Say It welcome Jasper James, one of the hottest artists of the day, for their next EP, calling upon Rob Mello to serve up some of his legendary No Ears remixes to seal the deal on this fine package.Glaswegian DJ/producer Jasper James has been on the scene for a number of years now. He has released on labels like Leftroom and Optimo Trax with his well-informed house sound joins the dots between the past, present and future, the original he offers here is another essential offering from the in-demand star. The brilliant, instantly party-starting 'Dirty Wrong' is a dirty disco-house tune with a tightly coiled bass riff that rolls on and on. The percussion is loose and playful and more trilling guitar riffs all help colour the groove as it builds and builds. After a steamy, drawn out and intense opening crescendo the thing finally drops and will send crowds wild with its firing vocals, explosive synths and authentic old school feel.Rob Mello has put out his iconic mixes and originals mainly on labels like Classic, and years later they still sound as good as the day they were released. First up here, his fine No Ears remix is a wild style jam with flailing hits and funky synths all underpinned by big rubbery drums. It's more direct than the original but is just as heart warming and human in its party vibe. A clever use of filters cuts out then drops in various elements for even more liveliness on the 'floor. His equally effective No Ears Dub is more deep and stripped back, with cosmic keys and well-crafted bass swagger all making this one ripe for intimate dancefloors. Some classic vocal samples only stoke the thing further, and as with all Mello mixes, this one is another classic. There is a timeless nature to this package that is sure to make it one of the biggest releases of not just this summer, but many summers to come.

Seth Troxler’s taste-making Play It Say It label continues to set its own agenda with a fantastic new doublepack / mini-LP from Frenchman The Mekanism. Featuring eight club focussed cuts, this compendium follows up the essential Acid Love EP released on this label back in 2015.Parisian DJ/producer and Rinse FM France star Damien Roussel is well known to those with their ear to the underground house scene. He has been DJing for more than a decade and puts out his choice cuts on labels like Berlin’s Exploited, London’s Needwant and Leeds’ 2020 Vision as well as on Play it Say it of course. Looking back to Chicago but also forward into his own sonic realms, he is a fresh producer with plenty to say for himself, and this expressive new release proves that.‘Breath’ opens the collection in prickly fashion, with firmly rooted drums the basis of a tune that develops into a jacking monster complete with fat acid stabs and chattery Windy City claps. It’s tense and robust throughout, and is the sort of track that demands the attention of whole festival arenas, especially when the clipped female vocals come in. The crispness continues on ‘Journey,’ which is deeper and groovier, with radiant chords bringing warmth and heat to a track dappled with sci-fi sounds and driven by a killer bassline. On the irresistible ‘Da Beat’, explosive drums, cow bells and rapped vocals all jump about with more acid stabs and the result is a track as brilliantly lively as you will hear all year. The hard-hitting, high impact style of The Mekanism continues on ‘Traverse’, a tribal number with whirring machines and malfunctioning voices, then ‘Get It’, a chunky and loopy house number in the mould of early DJ Sneak. The excellent ‘What’ gets loose and freaky, with flaming hits and wild style drums that demand you dance, ‘Follow Me’ is a bass driven, no-frills weapon, and finally ‘Time to Party’ will set any floor alight with its old school stabs and cowbells, grinding bass and big house drums. This is a fierce collection of club-ready tracks that ooze class as well as charisma.

Seth Troxler offers up the next installment in a lauded series of 12”s on his no nonsense, club-focused imprint Play It Say It. With previous releases coming from Butch, The Mekanism and Steve Lawler, next in line is a new addition to the roster: Leonardo Gonnelli.Based in Florence, Leonardo Gonnelli has recently release on Defected and has also on Dirtybird, Snatch Off, Suara and Deeperfect. Throughout, the Italian native has consistently pedalled a sound heavily indebted to 90’s Acid House and Detroit Techno and it’s this in conjunction with a sound understanding of how to work a dancefloor that aligns him perfectly with the ethos of Play It Say It.‘Tonada’ is a rich, hypnotic dance floor track propelled by clever sequencing that has it twisting and turning throughout. Arresting Spanish vocal passages punctuate progress while a circling sequence tumbles through the mix. The Dub version then omits the vocals in favour of distant whispers and caps off another solid addition to the Play It Say It series.

The last essential outing of 2017 for the Play It Say It label is from legendary DJ and producer Harry Romero.Globally acclaimed and recognised star Harry Romero has been a driving force in the scene since the 90s. He's released on such seminal labels as Sex Mania, Power Music and Strictly Rhythm, but also contemporary imprints like Ovum and Defected. Never far from the dance charts and an inductee into Pete Tong's Hall of Fame, Harry's own Bambossa Records is another fine chapter in his definitive story. Here he shows off his current sound across three fresh tracks.Opening up the EP is the arresting 'Mother Earth,' a percussive and tribal number with pinging kicks and loose hits all encouraging you to cut shapes. Bright synths rise up through the mix to bring some tension and drama and crowds are certain to react with hands in the air.The masterfully mangled 'Lesson on Swing' is a vibrant brew of skewed synths and surging bass, vocal yelps and wonky chords that will freak out any floor. It's another robust and full fat tune from the studio of Harry Romero.Last of all is 'Scatter', a high-pressure tune with characteristically big drums and fat bass all overlaid with vocal effects that build the intensity. Hooky little synth motifs and metallic percussion all add to the steaminess and ensure this a huge anthem in the making. This is a top trio of tunes that are imbued with all the knowledge and know how of a real house legend.

Following on from the widely acclaimed album from The Mekanism, Seth Troxler’s Play It Say It label commissions a series of essential remixes from Chris Carrier & Dan Ghenacia, Ryan Crosson and dOP.Parisian DJ & producer Damien Roussel AKA The Mekanism has been building a serious following over the last few years, with a string of compelling releases on the likes of Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse, London imprint Needwant and of course Play It Say It. His 8 track LP ‘Breath’, released in March of this year, garnered international support from everyone from Mixmag to DJ, Tsugi to Faze, plus extensive radio props from BBC Radio 1 and 6Music. Now the package gets brought to life once again with a set of standout remixes.First out of the blocks are Frenchmen and enduring house legends Chris Carrier and Dan Ghenacia. They flip ‘Journey’ into a rubbery and bubbly number where the bassline and synths tightly weave around one another and work you into a lather. Soulful pads, filtered vox and slick electronic stylings make this one a warm and trippy cut for the late night hours. Then comes Detroit talent, Visionquest man and ever-evolving techno mainstay Ryan Crosson. His ‘Break’ remix of ‘Breath’ is a high octane throwback with crisp breakbeats, chattering claps and a wobbly electro groove that gets right under your skin. Toms gently patter above, bass runs deep and there is real space and dynamism to the perfectly arranged track.French funsters and Circus Company associates dOP then get weird with their excellent remix of ‘Da Beat.’ In their hands it becomes a percussive number with an old school, spaced out feel. Warped synths, metal hits and squiggly lines all hustle and bustle the dance floor into action. Then Crosson comes again with an ‘Ambone’ remix of ‘Breath’. It’s an atmospheric and escapist ambient version with skeletal percussion but no kicks. Muted, distant acid, rising pads and snatched vocal cries fill it with tension and make it a perfect tool to drop into any set to add suspense and drama. This is a top team of remixers who all comecorrect and add great new perspectives to the interesting Mekanism source material.

Long time friend and collaborator Rob Cockerton joins Fanciulli, who’s own credits lead to labels including Suara and Snatch!, and together the duo cook up a storm here.‘Slave To The Rave’ is the fantastic opening cut and is a real party starter with an old school feel. Acid stabs bring raw energy alongside chattery claps straight from Chicago in the 80’s, whilst the whole production is bolstered by slick drum programming that won’t fail to work crowds into a frenzy. The excellent ’10 Channels of Bliss’ is equally massive, with robust kick drums down low and huge incendiary hi-hats up top. Swaying claps and rolling bass all help lure you in and shape shifting synths bring all that important looseness and colour.Next up, Classic Music Company artist and New York tastemaker Honey Dijon steps up to remix ‘Slave To The Rave’. Her version is dark and intense, with an unbridled sense of frantic raves bottled up in the train-track grooves and the cleverly filtered vocals,This is a powerful EP of high class, high impact dance music.

Seth Troxler’s agenda setting Play It Say It label is back with more summer heat, this time from Detroit based duo Ataxia.Hailing from Detroit, this pair has recently played the famous Movement Festival in their home city for the fifth time; work with top labels like Nervous Records and Culprit LA and have already impressed with a fine EP on Leftroom this year. Their sound is designed to get the party started, and after already releasing on this label in 2016 they are now back with three more essential tracks.Up first, the terrific ‘Time Original’ is a fluid and wriggling tech cut with busy synth lines scurrying about over driving drums. It’s dark and freaky with poised chord stabs and the whole thing cannot fail to get floors moving. Then comes ‘Supertouch’, which is a superbly slick acid number. Weird bleeps and clipped vocals add an unhinged edge to the urgent rubbery drums and the whole thing is a mind melting number that will take any set to the next level.Last of all is the vital ‘Villains’, seven inventive minutes of gurgling bass, alien sound design and wonky synth lines that all warp around each other and melt your mind as they do so. Colourful and full of character thanks to a rapped vocal line, this one is a real party anthem in the making.Across all three cuts here this talented duo really show off their wide range of studio skills in some style.

Seth Troxler’s Play It Say It label welcomes Phil Moffa as The Butcha for an excellentnew EP entitled "202 Future". Featuring three killer tracks, it is yet another club readyoffering from this most on point label.Phil Moffa, as well as being a fine solo artist, engineer and studio owner who hasworked on labels like The Corner, Plan B Recordings and Sublevel Sounds, alsoreleases on Hypercolour with boss man Seth. He has also collaborated with underground techno heroes like DJ Spider and Anthony Parasole as well as TheMartinez Brothers whom he paired up with on the Tuskegee label last year. As such he knows a thing or two about making dance floors move. His sound is robust and freaky, functional yet full of character, and this EP proves that once again.Arresting opener ‘More Bugged Out Please’ is a massive cut with rolling rubber drums and wild acid lines spraying about up top. Clever filters open and close to add scale and dynamism and coarse claps help drive things along, meaning that dancers will be swept off their feet in the process. Then comes the brilliantly absorbing titular track, ‘202 Future.’ This one is much deeper and darker, more subdued but just as impactful. Paranoid sirens and alarms go off above slow, snaking, dirty and dark sub bass. Percussion grows in stature and becomes a focal point and then acid lines and spooky riffs join the fray to make this a truly tripped out and late night monster.Last but not least, ‘Acid In The 1st Degree’ ups the ante with a shuffling marriage between crisp metal hits that blow in a stiff breeze above buried deep kicks. The effect is uplifting and unsettling, and once a prickly 202 line rips up the track, it’s another certified club anthem that ebbs and flows with real class.

One of Seth Troxler’s trio of fledgling labels, Play It Say It has already made its mark with stone cold killers from Sharam (Deep Dish) and most recently Clarian. Wasting no time with its next assault: Play003 comes courtesy of the UK dance pioneer Just Be (Matthew Bushwacka formally of Layo & Bushwacka). ‘The Magic Rock’ is exactly the sort of record to tease and satisfy in equal measure, as tension expertly builds with shakers, bleeps, bells and rave stabs into an all out tribally groove-led monster. B side ‘The Early Years’ is just as heavy duty in slower paced terrain as an intro of muted bass thumps gives way to another slow build up of layered percussion and a darkly penetrating vocal set in a simple yet powerful chugging framework. There’s no denying Matthew’s incredible and unwavering flair for an original groove.
