Limited to 300 copies.Next up and equally fabulous is the great, and hotly anticipated, new album from Polypores. The artist’s third full length for the label following a private press style, mailorder release earlier the year and first album proper “The Fialka Transmissions” in 2016. Polypores aka Stephen James Buckley makes haunted space music using an ever-expanding mound of synthesizers, samplers, and old tape recorders. Bleak, icy drones give way to 1970's Sci-Fi synth lines, throbbing bass rumbles ominously beneath a psychedelic haze of wistful melody and disembodied voices. “The Impossibility” was inspired by the destruction of the planet Earth by the human race, the early works of JG Ballard, Tarkovsky's “Stalker”, conspiracy theories, and places where the rules of time and space are brought into question. It was written and recorded in January 2017. A wonderful album, which comes dressed in a Nick Taylor designed sleeve looks certain to follow the trend set by all previous releases for both artist and label, and sell out instantly.

Limited to 400 copies.Alexandre is a composer and a current member of GRM, based in Paris, France. He holds a master’s degree in electronic music and composition from Conservatory in Bordeaux, France. His work considers ‘the sonic experience’ drawing on a rich mix of acoustic instrumentation and analogue synthesis along the way. As an experimentalist music researcher, Bazin’s compositional projects are primarily concerned with a very personal seal on a music with emotional power. With “Sun Dog Trail”, Alex merged several inspirations; Firstly, the influence of experimental electronic music, and more specifically a tribute to Bernard Parmegiani. Secondly, the influence of the blues with musicians like John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters, (English drummer Tim Wellers (The Divine Comedy) guests on drums here). The end result is the “Sun Dog Trail”, an experience that combines Bazin's usual musical fusions with experimental and blues forms, taking the listener on multiple adventurous journeys. For this album Alex used rarer instruments such as an EMS VCS3 synth, Buchla musical easel, Minimoog, and Cristal Baschet. The LP’s sleeve saw an ambitious attempt to use Franco Grignani’s beautiful 1966 graphic masterpiece "Fenomeno Plastico-Chiaroscurale" as its centrepiece, and to all parties’ delight, Franco’s daughter Manuella willingly agreed to its use and is incorporated into a design by longterm PY ally Nick Taylor.

The debut for Morgane Lhote’s first solo outing (since her Stereolab days), with her ace new project Hologram Teen limited to 500 copies.11 killer -often whacked out- tracks inspired by a multitude of key figures from varying genres; the soundtracks of Goblin and John Carpenter, 1970s French Disco and psychedelic Brazilian rock, Congolese Soukous, and the string arrangements of François de Roubaix and Jean-Claude Vannier. As Morgane herself says “with this first LP, I wanted to create the soundtrack to the trippiest horror movie ever, and combine the scary and the absurd, through a very tongue in cheek aesthetic both musically and visually. For this project, I decided to experiment with adding live instruments, such as bass, drums, and strings, instead of or in conjunction with electronic instruments on some tracks. It was especially interesting to merge both musical feels and textures into one cohesive narrative. I also had a strong sense of what the music should “look like” as shown on the LP’s cover design: Disco Démon was always going to be the main protagonist in a mish-mash of Jean-Claude Forest’s comics meets neon loudness meets the movie poster to ‘The Warriors’ and ‘Le frisson des vampires’”.A very filmic, hugely adventurous full length- perhaps a slight departure from previous output on PY, but all the better for it we feel at PY HQ, and with titles like “Roller Lover Doppelganger”, “Tracksuit Minotaur” and “Lesbian Death Drums” what’s not to like?! A very limited vinyl pressing expected to sell out super quick, get on it!

Limited to 400 copies.Since releasing her debut last year, (the fabulously received and super quick-selling “The Botanist & The Archaeologist”), Faten’s star has shone brightly and earlier this year she collaborated on the killer “The Darkest Wave” 45 w/ Pye Corner Audio (which sold through three pressings and is mooted as one of 2017’s best singles). The new album builds on this momentum, and comprises, in Faten’s own words: “Several -mostly instrumental- 'suites' that are narrative in nature. Cyclical patterns are central to the compositions: exploring harmony and counterpoint as they ebb & are reincarnated, and the perpetual return to the heart/core. Through the circling patterns, the album honours the return to the youthful spirit: of embracing naive romanticism, gut feelings, and strength of vision. Loosely inspired by medieval canons/rounds and Baroque structures, the album hovers between ambient electronic experimentations and semi-classical traditions. Relying mostly on a single analogue synthesizer, each section either sets a scene or plays a character - whether it's dancing across a stage, running through a forest, emerging from underwater, or languidly drifting through portals”. A wonderful record, sure to sell out real quick. It is released this September on vinyl only by Polytechnic Youth. Composed, produced, and mixed by Faten Kanaan. Mastered by Heba Kadry.Cover & insert design/artwork by Faten.

Based in Rouen, France, and started in 2000, Morphoex is the project of Isthmael Baudry- a musician and photographer (his sleeve artwork adorns the jacket here, adapted by PY chum Nick Taylor) who presents the mighty “Soviet System” for Polytechnic Youth this August.Beautiful synth soundscapes that fluctuate between -on one hand- the icy synthpop edge of early Mute, yet build into ominously darker, beat driven, industrial rhythms that recall Throbbing Gristle and early Cabs; though with a succinct French flavour that tips it’s hat towards some of the work of Heldon / Richard Pinhas via the revered sounds emanating from the Berlin School.Describing his music, Isthmael says ‘Soviet System’ “incorporates compositions that arose from the combination of analogue, organic and composite sounds, without any intervention of computer, sampler or sequencer in it’s creation. It’s goal: bruitist and melodious, atmospheric yet dancey, ice-cold yet mesmerizing. It is a concept album; each individual is prisoner by a system: a bureaucracy, the family, the technology….We are not free….The freedom has a cost…But the dream is non paid…”The album is released on vinyl by Polytechnic Youth, this August in a pressing of 300, (sure to go quick) and digitally via the Morphoex bandcamp page.

Finally released on vinyl following a slew of acclaimed, instant sell out releases for both Polytechnic Youth and Ghost Box, comes the magnificent debut full length “Example One” from Brooklyn based Listening Center. Initially released on cassette only via the “This is care of” imprint in 2012, the call for a vinyl release grew pretty intense for both artist and label so -here you go. Enjoy, it’s a beauty! The set provided an introduction to the -then new- artist, and explored aspects of library music, kosmische musik, and lost soundtracks. Dusty analogue synths and drum machines, along with fragments of speech and field recordings provide a soundtrack as we clear a path through the undergrowth of memory. The material was recorded in Brooklyn and mixed at This Is Care Of studio in 2011, and originally included “Titoli”, (released by Ghost Box as part of their 7” study series, paired with an epic remix “Town of Tomorrow Today” by Pye Corner Audio.)This nigh on essential reissue -a first time on vinyl- via Polytechnic Youth, now affords us a another look through Listening Center’s retro-futuristic window, and is dressed as beautifully as it sounds; reverse board sleeves printed inside and out and released as a one time pressing of 500 only.

A magnificent full length, building handsomely on it’s esteemed predecessor’s huge acclaim; more utterly wonderful, occasionally playful analogue synth soundtracks, soundbites and tips of the hat especially, to the revered BBC Radiophonic Workshop output from 1968 onwards. The record also offers nods to the revered work of Conrad Schnitzler, Klaus Schulze and Edgar Froese yet sounds utterly new and contemporary; and you feel that a love of 1970s Childrens’ TV themes looms large during it’s creation also. Initially from Hereford, VIC MARS’ early releases were at first predominantly net based download affairs, however Japanese imprint “Symbolic Interaction” stepped in to release the magnificent “Kanransha” set, which in turn led to the Clay Pipe full length. He freely admits to there not being any particular concept to the album as such, here- but does point to the final track “Astrogator” being a “nod to when my Dad took the family all over Germany in 1980 in a clapped out Hillman Avenger. Even going into East Germany, which even as a kid kid I could feel how weird/oppressive it was there, plus I had never seen guards etc with guns before!”An absolute gem this one, in tasty reverse board sleeve and sure to go quick. A one time pressing of 500.

Kehrschleife’ was Wolfgang Tilner-Barlow (1949 - 1984).The Kehrschleife recordings originated from the Mauer park fleamarket in Berlin about 3 years ago, (bought by Allan Murphy of Midwich Youth Club, and cleaned up from the original cassettes by him), they appear to be back-ups of the original Kehrschleife studio master tapes. The tapes are labelled (in German) NDR TV/SFB TV/Radio Bremen themes and Idents and in each cassette case is an A4 sheet detailing the track title/recording date/intended broadcast recipient, with a Kehrschleife/Wolfgang Tilner-Barlow Logo letterhead.According to the stall holder, the tapes were bought as part of a job lot of 1970's studio equipment from in the Uhlenhorst area, in the 1980's and passed on to him by a relative of the original job lot buyer. Little is known about Tilner-Barlow although the stall owner remembered the name 'Kehrschleife' as being a band from the late 70's Hamburg Neu Deutsche Welle scene. Murphy's research has turned up scant information such as Tilner-Barlow's name on the end credits of a few different 1970's German TV shows and a Rest in Peace notice at the end of an 'Arbeit Heute' show from 1984 on YouTube as well as the music appearing on a home video recording of Berlin in the 1970's (with apparently numbers stations recordings embedded)"A fabulous 8 track EP, playing at 45rpm in Polytechnic Youth house bags and sure to fly out super quick. The label may revisit these tapes for a further EP later in the year.

This one featuring the enigmatic, underground genius of MIDDEX. Cold as fuck, brutally icey synth blasts from the depths of South East London. In the man himself’s own words:“This is the second installation of suburban deliberation and galactic musings for Polytechnic Youth from MIDDEX. This is outer space hidden in the outer boroughs plastered over the flat thump of frosted perspex hearts”.A hand numbered edition of 250 7” singles with additional, various coloured, fold out poster inserts.

The next release on everyones’ favourite new minimal synth label / co-operative, sees a second release for the label from the enigmatically titled “The Assistant”. We know not of their whereabouts, or how many people record under this moniker; in fact we are only aware of an email address and the following cryptically offered, hastily handwritten lines for press release. Either way, this record is killer. It reaches you in a top loading sleeve designed by label head, Dom and is a numbered edition of 300 on white vinyl in ‘super sound single’ stickered sleeves.
