The Frightnrs’ modern classic, Nothing More To Say, masterfully reimagined by producer extraordinaire, Victor Axelrod aka Ticklah. These are the dub versions. It’s rare for a debut album, especially one in such a polarizing genre like Reggae, to garner the kind of universal fanfare The Frighntrs’ 2016 long player Nothing More To Say received. Mainly because it’s a record that transcends genre specific qualifiers and rhetoric that pigeonhole many albums. It is in the truest sense of the phrase, a great record. Shortly after its release a single for Dispute (a featured track) was pressed, and like many classic reggae singles, it included a Dub (version) on the B-Side (courtesy of famed reggae producer Victor “Ticklah” Axelrod). The single was a smash success which in return inspired Axelrod to produce Dub versions for all the songs on Nothing More To Say. The result?! “More To Say” Versions: A fresh take on a modern classic that needs to be heard. This isn’t a repackaging of some remixed material. Each song has been lovingly deconstructed and reimagined by Victor Axelrod - resulting in a wholly original piece of art that is a must for fans of the Frightnrs and Soulful music in general. Limited to 3000 copies and sporting psychedelic 3-D cover art (custom Frightnrs 3-D glasses included) - these puppies will not stay in stock long. Grab ‘em while you can! Don’t make us say “I told you so!”

2LP | 2017 | EU | Original (DDS)

Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
Colón Man is the exceptional debut album proper by visionary Jamaican dancehall artists Gavin Blair (Gavsborg) and Jordan Chung (Time Cow) plus their extended crew, aka Equiknoxx - once again for Demdike Stare’s DDS label. Where their widely acclaimed Bird Sound Power primer compilation, issued on DDS in 2016, brought the rest of the world up to speed with the music produced between late ‘00s and 2015, their first album now brings a 2020 sound into sharp, technoid focus thru a baker’s dozen steely, heat-seeking riddims galvanised with clinical electronics and a Midas Touch approach to sampling. The record’s title, Cólon Man refers to a Jamaican tale (and song) about a mysterious character, whom, like Marcus Garvey, was one of over 100,000 Jamaicans who returned from working in Cólon on completion of the Panama Canal - regarded among the greatest feats of engineering known to humankind, physically connecting the greatest bodies of water on the planet. In context of the album, Gavsborg and Timecow take the story as a metaphorical foundational for a roots and future sound, acknowledging the vital groundwork of previous generations of producers, whilst soundly contextualising their mutant new advancements of Jamaican Dancehall.Recorded between December 2016 and June 2017, the results of Colón Man form a stark, stripped down and conceptually blinding record. In tone and texture, the duo favour far colder, more abstract sounds, crucially lit up with sparingly used samples that lend the record its dissonant, harmonic colour and bittersweet hooks, stylishly feeding forward their playfully weird sense of humour into a rugged, nutty and even noisily imagineered set.Bookended by the gauzy, Detroit-compatible synth looks and acid hall grind of Kareece Put Some Some Thread In A Zip Lock, and the mesh of Motor City sleekness with Far Eastern strings on Waterfalls In Ocho Rios, they distill and diversify their bonds in myriad ways across the album. There’s a killer dancehall/trap hybrid in the percolate chorales and man trills of Plantain Porridge, along with the secretive dub-into-dancehall transfusion of Addis Pablo’s melodica in the belly rolling Melodica Badness, while Ceremonial Eating Dog and the hyaline designs of We Miss You Little Joe - a tribute to their pal Alty Nunes - are arguably the most fwd Jamaican riddims you’ll hear in 2017, and Enter A Raffle... Win A Falafel uncannily recalls the clockwork mechanics of Haruomi Hosono’s Alternative 3, from his S-F-X [1984] LP. No matter what electronic box or boxes you subscribe to, Colón Man is a hugely inventive, compelling album for the ages, a remarkable iteration of Black Secret Technology for 2017 and far beyond.

Black Man’s Pride is the striking new Studio One collection of deep righteous reggae, featuring Horace Andy, Alton Ellis, The Gladiators, Sugar Minott, The Heptones, Freddie McGregor, Cedric Brooks & more. While the righteousness of blackness is at the heart of the Rastafarian faith, this collection illustrates how black pride remained a central theme, if not the defining essence, at the very core of all the music created at Studio One Records under the direction of Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd.In order to understand the centrality of black identity in the music created at Studio One, we need look no further than Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd who created the first black-owned record company in Jamaica. In similar fashion Alton Ellis’s defining ‘Black Man’s Pride’ brings up emotions that are at the heart of many of these uplifting songs. Alton Ellis’ birthplace was the Trench Town ghetto of Kingston, also the birthplace of The Wailers, Ken Boothe and many other Studio One luminaries.Clement Dodd established a musical empire firmly rooted by the core musicians working at Studio One, many of whom came out of the Alpha School for Wayward Boys, essentially an orphanage run by Roman Catholic nuns, whose luminaries include Don Drummond, Johnny Moore, Leroy ‘Horsemouth’ Wallace, Cedric Brooks, Vin Gordon, Tommy McCook & more. Many of the songs featured here come from the transitory phase in reggae at the start of the 1970s, after the exhilaration of Ska and following the cooling down of Rocksteady. While reggae awaited the arrival of roots, Studio One’s vocalists were already producing some of the moodiest music imaginable! Here are 18 heavyweight tunes, both classic cuts and super-rare tunes!

Captain Ganja and the Space Patrolis one of the most singular dub albums that barely saw the light of day. A conscious effort to create a new breed of dub centred that around the cosmic synths and keys of Paul Thompson. Making use of an early Roland sampler, Tradition broke away from the standard drum / bass workouts that ruled the day. With the Captain, dub becomes an atmosphere, a feeling, not a formula - littered with babies cries, tribal chants, radiophonic noodlings and library soundtracks for space-age bachelor pads.

“All of a sudden, Jamaica awoke one morningand U-Roy was everywhere…”So read the original liner notes to this classic reggae LP, whichoriginally hit in 1971 and washed over the island like a groovingtropical storm.U-Roy was a true reggae pioneer, dubbed The Originator for goodreason. Bursting onto the Jamaican scene in the early 1970s, hepioneered the vocal approach called “toasting,” which in additionto bringing Jamaican music into a new era, was also heavily influentialon an American vocal style also in its infancy: rapping. This full-length, his first after a string of singles (mostly on theTreasure Isle and other Duke Reid labels, run by the famedproducer and studio owner), rolls like a crazy party where awobbly, but talented, “master of ceremonies” grabs the mic andwon’t let go. Speaking over and around songs that already havestraight-ahead vocals on them, U-Roy shows the world why he isconsidered an iconoclast and trailblazer. In all honesty, there are few standouts on the album since they allrun a similar course, and all are captivating in their own way.Modern listeners will especially note “Tide Is High,” originally bythe Paragons (featuring dulcet-toned vocalist John Holt) andrecorded later as a 1980 smash hit by Blondie. Each track here is a new adventure, and while U-Roy’s approachmight take some getting used to, it will eventually capture yourears as it did the entire island of Jamaica in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Sitback, drop the needle, and enjoy.

This is Soul Jazz Records’ latest new collection of classic and rare Studio One recordings. By the 1970s Studio One and Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd had already proved himself to be the defining force in Reggae for almost two decades. From running the Downbeat sound system on the lawns and yards of Kingston in the late 1950s to opening Studio One at 13 Brentford Road at the start of the 1960s, ushering in Ska and Rocksteady and establishing the careers of most of Jamaica’s artists – everyone from Bob Marley and The Wailers, Ken Boothe, Toots and The Maytals, The Skatalites, Jackie Mittoo and more – Clement Dodd had until this point dominated the Jamaican musical world. And yet, incredibly, Clement Dodd was barely half way through his musical path, maintaining Studio One’s number one position in the Jamaican music scene throughout the 1970s with a combination of musical and creative innovation and an endless capacity to adapt and create new musical fashions. By the end of the 1970s Dancehall had become the defining sound on the island. Dancehall was essentially a tribute by other Jamaican producers and artists to the classic music of Studio One created in the 1960s as young artists across the island created new songs, while musicians recreated these original classic foundation Studio One rhythms. As on other occasions, Clement Dodd rose to this new musical challenge by producing a whole new era of classics for Studio One.The roots of Dancehall begin with the DJs of the early 1970s, who were the first to sing new material over earlier classic rhythms. Early DJ pioneers such as Dillinger and Prince Jazzbo both feature here toasting over classic songs - The Mad Lad’s Ten to One and The Eternals’ Queen of the Minstrel. But it is the new wave of artists who arrived at Studio One at the onset of Dancehall which enabled Studio One to maintain its number one status as the whole of Kingston’s rival music producers – Channel One, Joe Gibbs and many others – attempted to challenge this position. Sugar Minott, Michigan and Smiley, Willie Williams, Lone Ranger had all grown up listening to the classic Studio One music of the 1960s and were able to pay the greatest compliment to the label by creating the defining new music of this new era with songs that combined all the musical and technological developments of the 1970s – dub, deejaying, discomixes, syndrums, synthesizers and more – into the sound of the future: Dancehall.Throughout this era Clement Dodd also continued to work with a number of original and returning artists – such as Alton Ellis, Horace Andy, Freddie McGregor, Johnny Osbourne – updating old rhythms and creating new ones while employing the in-house band variously known as The Brentford All-Stars/Rockers/Disco Set to update these sounds in order to maintain Studio One’s number one position as the defining force in Reggae.

New Zealand’s finest purveyors of rural rub-a-dub, Red Robin Records, are back again with another compelling discomix 45 – hot on the heels of their “Outta Road” 12inch, which marked the label’s debut earlier this year.Having sold the flock of sheep he reared over the New Zealand winter, Farmer Red Robin has raised enough funds to summon an impressive cast of veteran singer's and deejays to ride two original riddims from his old mate Naram.A1 sees the great Midnight Riders return with a thing called “Bobby was a Gangster” – a cautionary tale for all wannabe bad boys on a synth-heavy piece of rub-a-dub. On Part two the 85 Style veteran General Jah Mikey comes down gruff with a bubbling deejay cut called “Galang Selector”. On the flip, the versatile General Jah Mikey surprisingly reappears as a singer for “Ravers Party”. His velvet tones contrast nicely against the growling bassline of another deadly Naram riddim. Ragamuffin Junior Cat then jacks it up for “Ram Dance Posse” – an unbroken flow of lyrics that few deejays on the planet today could test today. Mastered to tape by Pole for maximum sonic niceness, this swag of six tunes won’t last long. So act fast to avoid disappointment.

This ace team of session musicians that was forged as an off-shoot of the Soul Syndicate were responsible for some of the biggest hits of the decade, recorded with Bunny Lee’s rising stars, such as Johnnie Clarke and his rival, Cornell Campbell. Following on from the great Shalom Dub set of 1975, Rasta Dub ’76 is another truly magnificent dub set culled from Aggrovators hits (by Johnny Clarke, Cornell Campbell and others); this time, the entire album was given a scintillating mix-down at King Tubby’s studio by the great Prince Jammy, and the sonic excellence has stood the test of time. Another must-have for all connoisseurs of dub.

As the sixties came to a close, Laurel Aitken was firmly established as Britian's favourite Jamaican performer, enormously popular with members of both the country's West Indian ex-pat communities and its rapidly growing Reggae-loving Skinhead population. Unsurprisingly, competition to gain rights to his works among the country's leading Jamaican music companies was fierce and often bitter, so when, early in 69, Pama Records acquired his signature, the achievement was rightly regarded as a major coup by the London-based operation. Over the weeks that immediately followed, Laurel duly provided Pama with a number of best-selling singles, and while single artist compilations by Jamaican artists were still considered a rarity, such was the demand for the singer's music the company wasted little time in issuing a long-playing collection: Scandal In Brixton Market. Featuring a handful of previously released sides along with seven recordings exclusive to the collection, the LP also featured guest appearances from two of the UK's most popular Jamaican acts, Girlie and celebrated trombonist, Rico Rodriquez. A must-have collection for all Reggae fans, Scandal In Brixton Market quickly sold out at stores the length and breadth of the country, and over the years that have followed it has become increasingly scarce. It is therefore with great pleasure that some 45+ years after its original release, Radiation Reissues is able to present it again on vinyl.

Soul Jazz Records’ new journey into the mighty vaults of Clement Dodd’s Studio One steps once more into the fertilemusical environment of Jamaican music in the late 1960s and early 1970s, from the sweet harmony vocals ofseminal 1960s Rocksteady right up to the nascent birth of Reggae and Roots music at the start of the 1970s.Sleevenotes to this album are by Steve Barrow, author of ‘Rough Guide to Reggae’ as well as Soul Jazz Records’ own‘Reggae Soundsystem Cover Art’ books. While Ska at the start of the 1960s had taken American Rhythm and Blues as its main influence, Rocksteady focusedon the emergence of American Soul music – with Jamaican vocal harmony groups such as The Gaylads, John Holt &The Paragons, Carlton & The Shoes showing a particular fascination with the close harmonies of Curtis Mayfield andThe Impressions and other US Soul acts. Here The Heptones even feature with a cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘I Shall BeReleased’.The influence of Soul music on Jamaican Rocksteady and Reggae is almost palpable, so much so that one wondershow much more successful singers like Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis, Slim Smith and John Holt would have been hadthey been born in Chicago, Detroit or Memphis.Artists such as Alton Ellis, Delroy Wilson and Owen Gray defined the era – a slowed down beat as Jamaican politicaland social heat slowly increased when the 1960s progressed into the start of the 1970s – and the music evolvedfurther from Rocksteady into Roots Reggae.

A selected few of the cuts involve exciting collaborations that are not to be missed. Similar to King Yoof’s recent album endeavour called ‘Homage To The King’, Radikal Guru exerts his speciality in various tempo ranges with the ‘Dub Mentalist’ LP. The result is just as exciting as his existing back catalogue; all mastered to meet the requirements of the true Moonshine vibration. The polish producer once again shows appreciation to both the dancefloor fans and the more meditating listeners. Fusing his compelling sound in dub, reggae and dubstep with timeless, old school samples makes every release a reminiscing journey. The amount of dread and energy will most definitely spark a riot across the globe.Radikal Guru executes his mix-up of dub by incorporating a dose of happiness and psychedelics. The effects take over the mixes in wild fashion; delays spin off the tasty spring reverberation tails, delivering a comfortable setting. Radikal’s horns, including the trumpet, saxophone and trombone joined the Radikal Guru’s live melodica to complement each other in rhythm and sound. The collaborations featuring Moonshine familiars Jay Spaker, Echo Ranks, Solo Banton, Violinbwoy and Earl 16 bless the righteous sound waves, as the bassweight, immersive vocals and tight arrangements speak for themselves. Whether it is the bass weight, vocal parts or simply the rhythms, you know exactly when Radikal Guru’s music is being played on a true sound system. The contribution of the polish dub genius, to the healing of the nations and to global dub culture trembles, as he immediately reveals why his ‘Dub Mentalist’ LP forms an important chapter in our history of Moonshine Recordings material.

“Best Dressed Chicken in Town” is the debut album by Jamaican deejay Dr. Alimantado. It was first released in 1978, and collects many of his self-produced singles from 1972 to 1977, employing the engineering talents of Lee "Scratch" Perry, King Tubby, and Scientist. It was the first album released by Greensleeves Records, and found favour with followers of both reggae and punk rock in the United Kingdom. The album employed several major hits as the basis for the tracks, including Horace Andy's versions of "Ain't No Sunshine" (on the title track) and "A Quiet Place" ("Poison Flour" and "I Shall Fear No Evil"), John Holt's "Ali Baba" ("I Killed the Barber"), and Gregory Isaacs' "Thief a Man" (on "Gimmie Mi Gun") and "My Religion" ("Unitone Skank"). The album was described by The Independent as "one of the finest albums from reggae's golden age".The front cover photography is credited to D.K. James and the back cover artwork and photography to David Hendley.

Few artists enjoy a legacy that involves a re-engineering of the very genre in which they work. Lee “Scratch” Perry is such an artist. As a pioneer of dub reggae Perry viewed the mixing console as musical instrument in its own right. The influence of his revolutionary approach has been felt world-wide and into genres far beyond reggae. His 1976 effort, "Super Ape", is considered a masterpiece of this or any genre. Working with The Upstetters at his Black Ark studio, Perry created a sound with such a lasting appeal that The Rough Guide includes "Super Ape" as one of their 100 Essential Reggae releases.

Dreadsquad, AKA Marek Bogdanski, returns to the scene with the second and third instalments of his Riddim Machine series. As part of a collaboration consisting of Dreadsquad’s own Superfly Studio and the renowned Moonshine Recordings, listeners are in for a treat, courtesy of Poland’s most prolific reggae dancehall producer. As ever, Dreadsquad manage to encapsulate all evolutions of reggae – from rocksteady , roots and rub-a-dub to dancehall and dub – all with a present-day twist to keep the bass bins rumbling and the people skanking. Both volumes will be available in both vinyl and digital format, so there’s no excuse to miss out!Volume 3 serves to retain Dreadsquad’s core values – their attitude towards mash-ups and remixes, their roots in all that is reggae – whilst also providing a sound that is refreshing, original, and showcases some of the finest up & coming talent. Whereas Volume 2 remains much more true to its roots, Volume 3 turns up the heat and brings the fire to the dance. Once again, the LP is littered with artists who are soon to be on everyone’s radar. Skarra Mucci, Zico MC, Jman, Charlie P, Million Stylez, need we say more? Riddim Machine Vol. 3 is chocked full of edits and remixes guaranteed to start a fire in any venue. The legendary Papa Michigan’s Nice Up The Dance is flipped on its head, with just the right amount of amen breaks and Reese bass to keep any junglist’s gun fingers in the air. Get Away revolves around a display of lyrical wizardry from MenaceLive, Jman and Zico MC in true cypher style. CharlieP makes a special appearance for the digi-dancehall smasher That Is Life, complete with classic 80s orchestral hits reminiscent of the foundation fashion. This one’s a dubplate; you should feel blessed to hear it!Both volume of Riddim Machine feature artwork illustrated by Kasia Wilk. The releases will be available digitally, via most online download stores (iTunes, Juno, Bandcamp, Amazon, etc.), as well as a physical vinyl release, available at most usual vendors.

After their highly acclaimed album “Dis Side Ah Town” Roger Robinson and disrupt are returning with a reel full of new tales about survival in a Dog Heart City. These stories, delivered in Robinson’s full vocal spectrum between low-end dub poetry tremors and haunting falsetto singing, are trying to make the invisible lives visible: giving people affected by gentrification, racism, unemployment and low wage work a sense of authority and aesthetic nobility. Each song on this tape became a story in that city, while the tape itself is like the city holding these stories. “Nightshift” tells about the workers who clean the buildings where power is held, and the contrast between their lives and where they clean. “Flowers” comments on the rate of young black men getting killed, where another victim dies even before the last mourning flowers have dried. There are stories about tower block life, the claiming of a postcode or how the city wears a Swastika like a proud badge in Post-Brexit UK.This beautiful LP collects a pile of special riddim cuts from the Jahtari vaults, from re-edited classics by Bo Marley, unreleased gems by John Frum, to completely new experiments, all lovingly dubbed live and soaked in analogue goodness by disrupt.Stunning hand-painted cover art by Kiki Hitomi, strictly limited vinyl run! U-Roy was a true reggae pioneer, dubbed The Originator for good reason. Bursting onto the Jamaican scene in the early 1970s, he pioneered the vocal approach called "toasting," which in addition to bringing Jamaican music into a new era, was also heavily influential on an American vocal style also in its infancy: rapping.Following up the Record Store Day 2017 release of U-Roy's classic Dread In A Babylon, Traffic Entertainment Group now brings us a very welcome reissue of the vocalist's 1976 full-length (and fourth) album, Natty Rebel, which has been out of print for more than 30 years.Produced by Tony Robinson (known for his work with Big Youth, Lloyd Parks, the Gladiators and many more), the album's 11 cuts range from bouncier and sometimes even disco-tinged grooves - "Have Mercy," "Go There Natty" and the album lead-off, "Babylon Burning" - to the classic roots stepping that drew fans to the legendary Jamaican vocalist over his long career - including "So Jay Jah Say" and "Natty Kung Fu."At its core, this is a deep journey into the heart of rasta living, spoken by one of Jamaica's most underrated dub and roots legends, and it's one of the strongest full-lengths in his expansive catalog.Whether you are experiencing U-Roy for the first time, or replacing your decades-old original LP, diving into this reissue of Natty Rebel is one hell of a way to spend an afternoon. Or, if you're not careful, a week or two.

Toots & The Maytals' long and storied musical career spans all the way back to the dawn of ska. The group are not only key figures in the development reggae, they were among the first to utilize the word in a song title which lead to the popularization of the very term reggae. In The Dark is the group’s second internationally released full length, the follow up to Funky Kingston. Like Funky Kingston, this release is in the pantheon of the greatest reggae albums of all time. Sure, that’s not an official list, but you know it when you hear it. In addition to stand out cuts like the James Brown influenced “54-46 Was My Number” that had previously been issued as singles the group recorded all new material at Dynamic Sounds Studios in Kingston. One of those cuts is perhaps the most unique reggae covers of an American hit record. Reggae already had a storied history of Jamaican artist covering American R&B hits. But Toots & The Maytals went where others hadn’t with a cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” If you’re only familiar with the original, well let’s just say Toots Hibbert’s beyond soulful vocals may make you forget you ever heard that other version of the song. Reissued in a lovingly re-printed version of the original LP sleeve, Get On Down now presents a superb reissue of a legendary piece of music history.

Studio One Showcase brings together a new fine selection of classic tracks from Horace Andy, Freddy McGregor, Johnny Osbourne, Lone Ranger, Sugar Minott, The Heptones, Wailing Souls and other seminal reggae artists all recorded at Studio One in the 1970s. By the start of the 1970s, Clement Dodd’s Studio One record label was at a crossroads. The previous two decades had given the producer and record label more success than most aspired to in a lifetime. From the mid-1950s on, the Downbeat Soundsystem had conquered all opponents – from Duke Reid to Prince Buster – and shaped and led the musical landscape of the dancehall. In the 1960s, the establishment of Studio One Records at 13 Brentford Road in Kingston, Jamaica, had led to a Ford Motors-esque production line of hits that similarly defined reggae music. But the 1970s was to prove Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd’s most challenging and yet ultimately the most creative decade of all. Like the most zealous and resourceful of pioneers, Studio One was about to embark on a stunning era of reinvention, adaptation, stripping down and versioning, each step of which marked new musical developments in reggae music – roots reggae, deejay, dancehall, rub a dub and more. This album presents an overview of this exciting and ground-breaking decade of the 1970s at Studio One, during an era where, despite challenges from new producers, political turmoil, and almost constant musical and technological innovations in reggae, Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd was able to maintain his position as the pioneering leader in reggae music, and to maintain Studio One is the number one sound in reggae music. Always.

Scientist keeps things lively with plenty of reverb and echo-treated percussion, ghostly piano parts, video game sound effects, and other various wobbly interjections from the mixing board. And adding to the record’s expert evocation of the Halloween spirit are some fiendishly voiced intros, the cover art’s cartoon potpourri of horror film characters, and the dubious claim made in the liner notes that Scientist mixed it all at midnight on Friday the 13th (reach for the flashlights kids). Along with Keith Hundson’s Pick a Dub and Lee Perry’s Blackboard Jungle Dub, this excellent Scientist release is one of the essential dub albums available.

Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart is a name to remember when it comes to modern groove music! Bassist and guitarist in various band, he started production in the mid- 90s and continues today to combine modern technology with the raw and genuine spirit of the golden age of Disco, Funk, Soul, Jazz, or Reggae.Based in Lyon (France), he’s constantly been looking up for new artists and adventures to feed his endless appetite for production and composition. As a result, his discography is quite exceptional today and the list of projects he’s been involved in quite impressive: Uptown Funk Empire, Mr President, Metropolitan Jazz Affair, Mr Day, Hawa, or Patchworks Galactic Project are just a few examples… Album after album, he proved a true gift of musical ubiquity, renewing in all genres and always mindful to ensure high standards.Since 2007, just following the international success of The Dynamics first album, Patchworks has also started to hide under Taggy Matcher alias, releasing fine Reggae remixes on Stix Records, a subdivision of Favorite Recordings. And after a few years seeing these remixes played all over, the mysterious Taggy Matcher and Stix Records decided it was time to go further and prepare a first album. After a first single covering two tracks of The Black Keys and shedding lights on a new singer called Birdy Nixon, Taggy Matcher recently presented the song “My Man”, alongside another surprising great songstress from Lyon: LMK. On this track, Taggy dug more into the Digital Reggae sound from the early 80s, showing another side of his production scale, more famous for his Rocksteady-Roots style until then.Coming out late November, Taggy Matcher’ first album, called Singasong, definitely explores even more into the various styles of Jamaican music. Surrounded by a loyal team of musicians, he continues the long-standing local tradition of covers, taking over titles as varied as "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath or "No Love Allowed" by Rihanna, to name just a few.As for vocals, Taggy also gave his trust to a fine crew: around a captivating Birdy Nixon, the young LMK shows eloquent skills, as do Mr Day and John Milk, his two longtime buddies. And whether it’s in adaptation or composition, the sound and production of this first album impress by its authenticity and style.

This journey started for Flox on the Reunion island, in the lost heights of the Mafate cirque. It is in this area cut of from the world, only accessible by foot, that the English multi-instrumentalist found himself face to face with the thrilling and endless feeling of being lost and in danger once again. A sensation that had faded away through time, weakening the flickering flame of inspiration.Listening only to his instincts, leaving aside past experiences and moving forward freely are the main ingredients of this sixth album Taste Of Grey. An album conditioned by inspiration, each song catching the feeling of the moment and releasing unblemished emotions. At ease with the different lines of artistic creation, the multi-talented craftsman once again composed, arranged, played, and recorded Taste Of Grey; a complex mix of organic and digital music balanced between deep Jamaican rhythms and loose funky beats. Breaking down styles to build his own, spending hours reinventing a personal electro vibe that moves back and forth from rap to singing and from darker to lighter landscapes.Rather than the simple choice of black or white, Flox has chosen a path with more subtle shades of grey. A step into the unknown, writing love songs when political issues had mainly been a major theme. Writing about feelings, unclenching fists to come up with an album that tells a full story. You could listen to the album Taste Of Grey in random but this would also change the story line…

The releases in this series are indeed special, featuring a focus on a different style of music each time. This inaugural issue – Humble Dubbers – tackles the intertwining worlds old-school dub, roots, and reggae steppers, as seen through the Melting Records looking glass. Veteran dubwise producers and irie new names rub shoulders on the compilation's ten tracks, coming together to give the listener a mind-expanding journey along a space-echoed pathway.Included, for the first time on vinyl, is "Nine Years" from Ticklah, a renowned producer who worked on Easy Star All-Stars' classic The Dub Side of the Moon. Easy Star All-Stars are also represented by bassist Victor Rice, contributing with a heavy dub track. Canada's Dubmatix took some time out from his packed touring and production schedule to deliver an exclusive rolling and blunted-out track for the compilation. And longtime German dub stalwart Burnt Friedman along with The Nu Dub Players provides a sparse and dreamy offering track that opens the collection with style.Other artists featured on Humble Dubbers are Kabanjak (one half of Ancient Astronauts), YesKing (BBE Records), Shimi Sonic from Israel, Skinshape from Horus Records, Lo End Dub from Spain, Colman Brothers from UK, and up-and-comers Resonators (Wah Wah 45s). With this variety of producers it is striking how cohesive Humble Dubbers remains, giving the listener a satisfying overview on the state of nu-dub. The compilation also fits mightily within Melting Records' catalog, as lounge and downtempo elements are sprinkled throughout for a distinctive take on the sound. In all, Humble Dubbers vibrates and fascinates, from its rumbling low ended basslines to the crisp sizzle of flying hi-hats. Selectah, bring the rewind!
