The album classic was originally issued in 1977 in Jamaica only and 20 years later in 1997 released by the Blood & Fire label as the outstanding but now deleted "Heart Of The Congos". VP Records' sub-label 17 North Parade release now the definitive 2017 re-mastered 3CD / 3LP deluxe edition put together with both respect and gratitude to that illustrious antecedent. This new 3 disc-set and 3LP-Vinyl-set is the first to feature the now almost impossible to find, original mix of the album, unavailable since producer Lee Perry withdrew the set in 1977 following the refusal of Chris Blackwell's Island Records team to licence the album (Disc 3), together with the more well-known mix, dubs, disco mixes, seven and twelve inch versions and "Don’t Blame It On I" an overlooked previously unreleased track unearthed (Disc 2) and the 'Blood & Fire' Kevin Metcalfe master (Disc 1).

Captain Ganja and the Space Patrolis one of the most singular dub albums that barely saw the light of day. A conscious effort to create a new breed of dub centred that around the cosmic synths and keys of Paul Thompson. Making use of an early Roland sampler, Tradition broke away from the standard drum / bass workouts that ruled the day. With the Captain, dub becomes an atmosphere, a feeling, not a formula - littered with babies cries, tribal chants, radiophonic noodlings and library soundtracks for space-age bachelor pads.

Soul Jazz Records’ new journey into the mighty vaults of Clement Dodd’s Studio One steps once more into the fertilemusical environment of Jamaican music in the late 1960s and early 1970s, from the sweet harmony vocals ofseminal 1960s Rocksteady right up to the nascent birth of Reggae and Roots music at the start of the 1970s.Sleevenotes to this album are by Steve Barrow, author of ‘Rough Guide to Reggae’ as well as Soul Jazz Records’ own‘Reggae Soundsystem Cover Art’ books. While Ska at the start of the 1960s had taken American Rhythm and Blues as its main influence, Rocksteady focusedon the emergence of American Soul music – with Jamaican vocal harmony groups such as The Gaylads, John Holt &The Paragons, Carlton & The Shoes showing a particular fascination with the close harmonies of Curtis Mayfield andThe Impressions and other US Soul acts. Here The Heptones even feature with a cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘I Shall BeReleased’.The influence of Soul music on Jamaican Rocksteady and Reggae is almost palpable, so much so that one wondershow much more successful singers like Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis, Slim Smith and John Holt would have been hadthey been born in Chicago, Detroit or Memphis.Artists such as Alton Ellis, Delroy Wilson and Owen Gray defined the era – a slowed down beat as Jamaican politicaland social heat slowly increased when the 1960s progressed into the start of the 1970s – and the music evolvedfurther from Rocksteady into Roots Reggae.

Hailing from the hills of Montmartre (Paris) the man behind Soul Sugar, Guillaume "Gee" Metenier, is regarded as one of Europe's most prolific keyboard players. His passion for the Hammond B3 has led him to study under the guidance of legendary Jazz master Dr. Lonnie Smith. The heavily vintage sound is no coincidence, as other classic keyboards like the Fender Rhodes, Clavinet, or Minimoog round out his studio arsenal. His influences include a vast heritage of Soul and Jazz greats such as Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Booker T, Art Neville, or Reggae legends Jackie Mitoo and Augustus Pablo."Gee" was an integral part of Electronic outfit, Seven Dub, which gained certain notoriety in the emerging French scene in the late 90s, releasing a number of singles and albums as well as remixes for artists such as Femi Kuti, King Tubby vs. Horace Andy, and Sly & Robbie, to name a few. As a musician, Guillaume has collaborated with the likes of The Last Poets, Alain Bashung, Kid Loco, Grant Phabao, Gizelle Smith, The Mighty Mocambos, Blundetto and many more. He also released a handful of notable singles as Soul Sugar, such as "Ritual" (Mocambo Records), "East Of The River Nile" or "Why Can't We Live Together" (Gee Recordings), and an album called Nothing But The Truth (Freestyle Records). The latest outing from Soul Sugar, Chase The Light, is a fusion of roots Reggae, Psychedelic Soul and Funk grooves, showcasing heavy instrumentals and powerful songs. Recorded in France and Kingston (Jamaica) with Yvo Abadi on drums, drummer dubmaster Jahno, and guitarist extraordinaire Thomas Naim, with vocals by Courtney John, who's falsetto stylings and lyrical poetry features on two tracks (one including a special appearance by Dr Lonnie Smith) and Leonardo Carmichael, over a heavy riddim revision of the classic "Why Can't We Live Together".The analog production delivers solidly, taking no prisoners and keeping the groove alive, the whole collection of tracks simply rocks... Chase The Light brings together a bombastic blend of timeless sounds, highest level of cool for impeccable taste. CD comes with bonus dub versions of all the tracks.

LP | 1975 | EU | Reissue (Radiation Roots)

Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
Tenor saxophonist Tommy McCook is rightly considered a giant of Jamaican music. Chosen by Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd to be leader of the Skatalites in the early 1960s, he went on to become the chief exponent of rock steady as leader of the Supersonics house band at Treasure Isle. McCook remained a key session player throughout the reggae era, and during the roots reggae heyday of the mid-1970s, his expressive melodies found particularly strong outlet, especially on the music he created for grassroots producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee as a member of the Aggrovators, the studio outfit Lee hand-picked from the cream of Jamaica’s musical crop. When enhanced by the adventurous mixing experiments of King Tubby, the engineer that turned dub into an art form, instrumental Aggrovators music became positively ethereal, yielding an exceptional listening experience. On King Tubby Meets The Aggrovators At Dub Station, Tommy McCook blows mean sax and flute over dubs of outstanding tracks by Johnny Clarke, Cornell Campbell, Linval Thompson, Delroy Wilson, and others greats. First issued on Third World in 1976, this vinyl reissue comes complete with four thematic bonus tracks, and the whole disc makes for essential listening.

The foundation of this dub album was created by some of the finest sessions musicians ever to grace the studios of 1960’s & 70’s Jamaica. Their instruments were the cornerstone to countless Dub LP’s that began to surface in the early 70’s and continued on into the 80’s creating a whole new genre of music. As they did back in the early days of dub, the Kingston All Stars gathered together in Kingston, Jamaica at Mixing Lab Studios and laid down a series of riddims that would lay the groundwork for what comes next: the singers. Both Greenwich Farm rasta, Prince Alla, and falsetto, Cedric Myton of the The Congos, contribute vocals to the album but half of the riddims on this LP are, to date, unreleased, and have yet to be voiced.

Limited edition for Record Store Day 2017!U-Roy was a true reggae pioneer, dubbed The Originator for good reason. Bursting onto the Jamaican scene in the earliest 1970s, he pioneered the vocal approach called “toasting,” which in addition to branching out Jamaican music into a new era, was also heavily influential on an American genre in its infancy: rapping. On “Dread In A Babylon”, his third full-length, he stretches out over traditional roots grooves provided by the Soul Syndicate and Skin, Flesh & Bones bands, riffing on topics including love (“Runaway Girl,” a 1975 single released in the UK on Virgin Records); the Bible (“The Great Psalms”); walking the straight and narrow (“Listen To The Teacher”); and even his take on governmental policy goals (“Chalice In The Palace”). The album finishes with an instrumental version of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ “Trench Town Rock,” for good measure. U-Roy’s style and charisma are always on display, and – as with all of his classic records – the groove rules all. Presented on black vinyl with a poster of the glorious, ganja-drenched cover art, it’s the perfect chance to revisit one of the more underrated voices in Jamaican musical history.

Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
Distinctive tenor singer Linval Thompson honed his singing craft in his formative years, growing in the west Kingston ghetto of Three Mile, where he was associated with Dennis Brown, Johnnie Clarke and Al Campbell. A subsequent move to New York brought him into expatriate act Hugh Hendricks and the Buccaneers, with his debut recording, ‘No Other Woman,’ being made circa early 1974 at Patrick Alley’s Art Craft studio. A series of other singles followed from his New York sojourn, but the return to Jamaica in 1974 led to more noteworthy singles for Stamma Hobson, Phil Pratt and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, with ‘Jah Jah Redder Than Red’ and ‘Girl You’ve Got to Run,’ both cut at the Black Ark for Pratt, being the most successful. Yet, it was all but a prelude to the breakthrough success he would finally achieve upon teaming up with Bunny Lee for ‘Don’t Cut Off Your Dreadlocks,’ one of the most popular releases of 1975; a debut album of the same name, issued by Third World in 1976, contained some of his most outstanding material, including the devotional ‘Jah Jah The Conqueror’ and ‘Long Long Dreadlocks,’ the romance thriller ‘Black Princess Lady’ and the anti-rude boy opus, ‘Cool Down Your Temper.’

Scientist was only 20 years old when, working with fellow producer “Junjo” Lawes, came up with this stunner, a sinuous groove party with cartoonlike special effects (a lots of bongs and boings like pans hitting one another, blips and squeals that sound like a Pac-Man game). All the “song” titles are references to boxing (a motif that Scientist was obviously mining for all it was worth), and all are great individual bits of dub sound that cohere into a meaningful whole.

The cosmic theme is well served on ten effects-riddled tracks, with the rockers style material being littered by all manner of stratosphere-breaking sounds from the mixing board, strategically adorned with snatches of ghostly echo and pneumatic percussion. Rids the World of the Curse of the Vampires (1981) not only ably displays the mix masters varied approach of, but clocks in as one of his best outings! Scientist keeps things lively with plenty of reverb and echo-treated percussion, ghostly piano parts, video game sound effects, and other various wobbly interjections from the mixing board. And adding to the record’s expert evocation of the Halloween spirit are some fiendishly voiced intros, the cover art’s cartoon potpourri of horror film characters, and the dubious claim made in the liner notes that Scientist mixed it all at midnight on Friday the 13th (reach for the flashlights kids). Along with Keith Hundson’s Pick a Dub and Lee Perry’s Blackboard Jungle Dub, this excellent Scientist release is one of the essential dub albums available.

Toots & The Maytals' long and storied musical career spans all the way back to the dawn of ska. The group are not only key figures in the development reggae, they were among the first to utilize the word in a song title which lead to the popularization of the very term reggae. Among the numerous musical accomplishments of Frederick "Toots" Hibbert and his group was the song "Pressure Drop", which was released initially in 1970, but received widespread acclaim for its appearance in the soundtrack to the film"Harder They Come". It's since been covered by The Clash, The Specials, The Selecter, Robert Palmer, and numerous others, has been rated by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and is credited with helping introduce reggae music to the world. Though originally released in 1970, the US wouldn't get to experience "Pressure Drop" until 1975, when it was released on the US version of their album "Funky Kingston", easily considered one of the strongest albums in Toots & The Maytals' catalog, not to mention one of the greatest in reggae history. Upon its release in the States it received massive critical applause (even warming the cold, icy heart of Robert Christgau) for its infectious melodies and rhythms on tracks like "Sailing On", "Time Tough", and theeponymous title track, quirky Jamaica-infused covers of tracks by John Denver and Ike Turner, and of course the influential "Pressure Drop." Reissued in a lovingly re-printed version of the original LP sleeve, Get On Down now presents a superb reissue of a legendary piece of music history.

The Skatalites brought the sound of Jamaica to the world. At the start of the 1960s, in the space of just a couple of years Don Drummond, Tommy McCook, Jackie Mittoo, Ernest Ranglin, Johnny ‘Dizzy’ Moore, Lloyd Knibbs, Lloyd Brevett and others defined the exciting beat of ‘Ska’ as the sound of newly independent Jamaica. As the house band at Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd’s newly launched Studio One Records at 13 Brentford Road, the group comprising the finest jazz musicians on the island played on literally 1000s of recordings – Bob Marley and The Wailers, Toots and The Maytals, Delroy Wilson, Ken Boothe, Alton Ellis and many, many more.During their existence (1963-65) The Skatalites also recorded 100s of their own songs, released either under their own name, or The Studio One Orchestra, or that of band members Drummond, McCook etc. This is the first collection on Soul Jazz Records to bring you some of their finest material – from classics such as ‘Guns of Navarone’, ‘El Pussy Cat Ska’, ‘Christine Keeler’ through to some serious rarities such as Dizzy Johnny and The Studio One Orchestra’s ‘Sudden Destruction’ and Don Drummond’s ‘Coolie Boy’.The Skatalites’ ska sound brought together aspects of jazz, latin, rhythm and blues, proto-Rastafarianism (tracks such as ‘Full Dread’, ‘Beardsman Ska’) and more. The intensity and energy of their sound was matched by the experimentation of the troubled genius of Don Drummond whose ‘far east’ modal trombone sound added a complex melancholy to the music of the Skatalites (the group split-up after Drummond was charged with murdering his wife, dancer Margarita Mahfood). This album was originally released as a limited-edition Record Store Day collectors 7-inch box set (now deleted) and is now available for the first time as a double LP edition, CD and digital release complete with 10 extra bonus tracks and new extensive sleeve notes.

Brand New 2017 Recut - finally available on Vinyl for the First time. 2LP+Mp3 in full Original Coverart. The legendary movie soundstrack based out of Kingston, Jamaica in April 2008, telling the story of the original vocalists and musicians involved. The sixteenth release on the Moll-Selekta label shares its title with a wonderful film, a heartwarming homage to the golden age of rocksteady. It documents the recordings being made for this very album at the Tuff Gong studios, Kingston, Jamaica in April 2008, telling the story of the original vocalists and musicians involved. Excerpts from an all star reunion concert staged in Kingston and older archive material complete the picture. Never before in the history of Jamaica, which already occupies a unique place on the world map of song, its sound embraced by western popular music, has such an illustrious collection of singers and players been assembled. The album showcases 15 rocksteady classics in sparkling, deeply inspired new versions, recorded in the studio which also played host to album sessions of a certain Bob Marley. Under the musical direction of Ernest Ranglin, a guitarist of considerable renown not only on the reggae circuit, but also on the jazz scene, mixed by legendary engineer Errol Brown - in Duke Reid’s employ at the Treasure Isle studio in the sixties - and freshly arranged by Lynn Taitt.

Tenor singer Johnny Clarke had many false starts in his youthful days. Hanging around Studio One as a schoolboy with Jacob Miller, Clarke was supposed to record material written for him by Bob Andy, but somehow never made the grade. His 1973 debut recording for lesser-known producer Glen Stair was not released, and early work for Clancy Eccles failed to hit, though ‘Everyday Wondering’ for Rupie Edwards made an underground impact in Britain and New York. Subsequent singles for Keith Hudson and Glen Brown also did not get very far, but the breakthrough finally came when Bunny Lee asked him to sing ‘None Shall Escape The Judgement,’ which was written by the singer Earl Zero; it became a massive hit that launched the ‘flying cymbal’ craze (based on an open-and-closed high-hat cymbal pattern, adapted from the Soul Train theme), and Clarke became one of Lee’s most reliable hit-makers, partly because Lee stoked a rivalry between him and Cornell Campbell, whom Lee had previously asked to voice ‘None Shall Escape.’ Clarke’s Satisfaction LP was recorded at Harry J for Lee, voiced at King Tubby’s studio, and issued by Third World in 1979. It is a set largely comprised of cover tunes, such as the strong opening update of the Paragons’ ‘Riding For A Fall,’ the title track adapting their rock steady hit ‘My Satisfaction’ in a post-rockers style. Better still is the hard-hitting ‘reality’ tune, ‘Play Fool, Get Wise,’ which uses a proverb to relate a means of avoiding trouble on the dog-eat-dog mean streets of Kingston.

Equiknoxx are one of the hottest, most innovative dancehall squads from Jamaica right now; Bird Sound Power is their debut collective show of strength, packing 12 avant, crooked riddims by core members Gavsborg and Time Cow, plus Bobby Blackbird and Kofi Knoxx, with vocals by Kemikal, Shanique Marie and J.O.E. (R.I.P).The set was parsed and pieced together by Jon K & Demdike Stare , and now thanks to link ups via Swing Ting’s Balraj Samrai (a longtime livicated supporter), it is issued on Demdike’s DDS imprint, replete with Jon K’s sleeve design.Easily identified by the squawking bird idents peppering their cuts, Equiknoxx productions have been big in the dance since Gavin Blair a.k.a. Gavsborg produced Busy Signal’s billboard hit Step Out in 2005, followed by key instrumentals for Beenie Man, Aidonia, Masicka, and T.O.K. - with many released on 7” thru their Equiknoxx Musiq label, and some of which, such as Aidonia’s Negative, are included in this set.Bird Sound Power arguably marks up the most striking riddim album you’ll hear from JA in 2016, weighted with the potential to open up perceptions of current dancehall thanks to the mad character and broad reference points of its producers, encompassing King Jammy’s foundational digi-dub and Dave Kelly’s Mad House sound as much as rugged New York hip hop and the wigged-out, feminine pressure of Virginia Beach’s Timbaland or The Neptunes. The oldest tune inside dates to 2009, but the rest are relatively recent dancehall mutations, including a number of exclusives produced in the last 12 months. Each one reps for Equiknoxx’s unique aspects, such as Jordan Chung a.k.a. Time Cow’s brilliantly bizarre, layered arrangements of film samples, sawn-off hooks and digi-tight beats, whilst also a result of as their distinguished family vibe, Bird Sound Power exists in a paradox, contemporary but classic, and with as much potential to turn new heads onto current JA sounds as Mowax’s Now Thing set back in 2001, which remains a key touchstone for all fwd looking producers..

Coxsone’s Music is a stunning new 3-CD/two separate double LP (+ free download) collection featuring over two and half hours of early Jamaican proto-ska, rhythm and blues, jazz, rastafari and gospel music – charting the earliest recordings produced by Clement Dodd, in the years before he launched the mighty Studio One Records, brought together here for the first time ever.Clement Dodd’s Sir Coxsone The Downbeat Soundsystem ruled Kingston’s dancehalls during this era and these recordings strongly reflect the influences of American rhythm and blues and jump jazz on Jamaican music fans. By the time the new record company formed in Brentford Road, Kingston in 1963, the young Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd had already managed to release an incredible wealth of recordings by the talented musicians and artists on the island of Jamaica and this collection reflects just that: Featuring Don Drummond, Roland Alphonso, Derrick Harriott, Owen Gray, Clancy Eccles, Count Ossie, Monty Alexander, The Blues Busters, Ernest Ranglin, Rico Rodriguez and many, many more all captured here in their formative early years. Before Studio One, Clement Dodd released this music on a variety of his early record labels such as Worldisc, All Stars, Coxsone, D Darling (named after Coxsone’s mother, who received a production credit on the label), Muzik City (named after Dodd’s record store on East Queen’s Street), Port O Jam, Supreme and Sensational.Sleevenotes to this collection are by Studio One authority Rob Chapman, author of the Never Grow Old and Downbeat Special books cataloguing the many recordings of the label.

An essential guide to the Dancehall Reggae/Hip-Hop clash that ruled New York in the early 1990s as Shinehead, Supercat, Mad Lion, Bobby Konders and many more rewrote the rules of Dancehall, Reggae and Rap. Killer heavyweight tracks, non-stop. Essential! From Kool Herc onwards, Jamaicans who grew up in New York City have played pivotal roles in the development of the city’s musical identity. Hip-Hop, born in the Bronx, was always hot-wired to Jamaica and in the 1990s the two became inextricably joined when reggae met rap in New York City.??Dynamite NYC brings together the many artists who created this unique scene, linking together two of the world’s most important musical cultures – hip-hop and reggae.?In the early 1990s, Jamaican dancehall - including artists from this home-grown New York scene - became the subject of close scrutiny by the US major record industry who, having made vast profits from hip-hop, searched out Jamaican or Jamaican-descended artists who could potentially crossover into the vast US hip-hop market. Jamaican dancehall artists were signed to big US contracts (Yellowman, Supercat, Capleton, Shabba Ranks). And New York, previously a satellite town of Kingston for visiting Jamaican artists, but now with its own unique dancehall scene became a focal point as artists such as Shinehead, Red Foxx, Jamal-Ski, Mad Lion, and others were quickly signed up to major record companies.??100%Dynamite NYC features these and many other New York reggae/hip-hop crossover artists in this first album to feature the music from this scene.

Spanning nearly 30 years of revolutionary music and featuring the music of Count Ossie, Johnny Clarke, The Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, Ras Michael and The Sons of Negus, Bongo Herman, Roy Ashanti (The Congos), Earth & Stone, Mutabaruka and many more, this is an in-depth look at some of the most unique and righteous music ever made and comes complete with a 40+ page outsize booklet, containing exclusive photography and extensive historical and contextual sleevenotes. The new religion of Rastafari emerged in Jamaica during a time of intense political and social change in the 1930s. The first stirrings of anti-colonialism and workers’ rights were in motion, while Marcus Garvey’s Back-to-Africa movement was beginning to wane. But the pivotal catalyst to the birth of the Rastafari faith was the crowning of a black king in Africa in 1930.One of the earliest mentions of Ethiopia in Jamaican music can be found on mento singer Lord Lebby and the Jamaican Calpysonians’ 1955 recording ‘Etheopia’. In the song Noel Williams, aka Lord Lebby, discusses Ethiopianism, the political movement that calls for a return to Africa for black people. The 1960s saw the emergence of the first Rastafarian music on record with Count Ossie’s Rastafarian drummers. The visit of Haile Selassie to Kingston in 1966 was like an electric current throughout Kingston’s music scene – many of who had become adherents to the Rastafari faith. By the 1970s Rastafarianism become practically synonymous with reggae, as many roots reggae artists became known throughout the world, led by the success of Bob Marley and The Wailers. At the source of the music of Rastafari is the figurehead master drummer and leader Count Ossie, who first bought the deeply spiritual nyabinghi and burro rhythms heard and played at sacred Rastafarian grounation (reasoning) sessions into popular Jamaican music through his many collaborations and performances with artists – from The Skatalites to The Folks Brothers - and producers – including Clement Dodd, Prince Buster and Harry Mudie. At the start of the 1970s Count Ossie formed the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari with saxophonist Cedric Brooks, which immediately became the most significant group of the Rastafari faith, bringing together authentic rasta nyabinghi drumming together with spiritual and avant-garde jazz influences of Sun Ra, John Coltrane and Albert Ayler into a truly unique and groundbreaking sound. As ‘roots reggae’ artists in the 1970s continued to spread the word of Jah (God) in their music, Rastafari reggae became the ultimate rebel sound throughout the world.

The gentle side of Gentleman. Mind-bending stuff.

Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart is a name to remember when it comes to modern groove music! Bassist and guitarist in various band, he started production in the mid- 90s and continues today to combine modern technology with the raw and genuine spirit of the golden age of Disco, Funk, Soul, Jazz, or Reggae.Based in Lyon (France), he’s constantly been looking up for new artists and adventures to feed his endless appetite for production and composition. As a result, his discography is quite exceptional today and the list of projects he’s been involved in quite impressive: Uptown Funk Empire, Mr President, Metropolitan Jazz Affair, Mr Day, Hawa, or Patchworks Galactic Project are just a few examples… Album after album, he proved a true gift of musical ubiquity, renewing in all genres and always mindful to ensure high standards.Since 2007, just following the international success of The Dynamics first album, Patchworks has also started to hide under Taggy Matcher alias, releasing fine Reggae remixes on Stix Records, a subdivision of Favorite Recordings. And after a few years seeing these remixes played all over, the mysterious Taggy Matcher and Stix Records decided it was time to go further and prepare a first album. After a first single covering two tracks of The Black Keys and shedding lights on a new singer called Birdy Nixon, Taggy Matcher recently presented the song “My Man”, alongside another surprising great songstress from Lyon: LMK. On this track, Taggy dug more into the Digital Reggae sound from the early 80s, showing another side of his production scale, more famous for his Rocksteady-Roots style until then.Coming out late November, Taggy Matcher’ first album, called Singasong, definitely explores even more into the various styles of Jamaican music. Surrounded by a loyal team of musicians, he continues the long-standing local tradition of covers, taking over titles as varied as "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath or "No Love Allowed" by Rihanna, to name just a few.As for vocals, Taggy also gave his trust to a fine crew: around a captivating Birdy Nixon, the young LMK shows eloquent skills, as do Mr Day and John Milk, his two longtime buddies. And whether it’s in adaptation or composition, the sound and production of this first album impress by its authenticity and style.

Klaus Wunderlich meets King Tubby on this spaced out living room jam by the Gl. Harlev Organ Orchestra, three seasoned veteran musicians from the Danish underground (Bo Marley, Analogik, 100% Max Akwaaba). The tracks, all one-take recordings done with just an old Technics organ, mutate through the various presets from the built in drum machine – tango? bossa? – while getting soaked in tape delays and subtle flute or guitar overdubs, driven by the surprisingly heavy basslines coming from the old organ speakers. Playing the organ turned out to be a three men job: Benjamin Lesak on the two-layer keyboard, Kristian Nordenthoft kneeling on the floor to operate the bass pedals by hand, while Jesper Kobberoe took care of the beats. Recorded live with only a simple microfon this document captures everything, from pure vibes to problems with a runny nose. This re-issue of a lost gem from 2009 (as ‘Bare Spil Noget Orgel‘ on Route 66) shows what can be done in just one day: you can make a whole record (including cover art)! Sleeve by Kristian Nordentoft
