Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
Distinctive tenor singer Linval Thompson honed his singing craft in his formative years, growing in the west Kingston ghetto of Three Mile, where he was associated with Dennis Brown, Johnnie Clarke and Al Campbell. A subsequent move to New York brought him into expatriate act Hugh Hendricks and the Buccaneers, with his debut recording, ‘No Other Woman,’ being made circa early 1974 at Patrick Alley’s Art Craft studio. A series of other singles followed from his New York sojourn, but the return to Jamaica in 1974 led to more noteworthy singles for Stamma Hobson, Phil Pratt and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, with ‘Jah Jah Redder Than Red’ and ‘Girl You’ve Got to Run,’ both cut at the Black Ark for Pratt, being the most successful. Yet, it was all but a prelude to the breakthrough success he would finally achieve upon teaming up with Bunny Lee for ‘Don’t Cut Off Your Dreadlocks,’ one of the most popular releases of 1975; a debut album of the same name, issued by Third World in 1976, contained some of his most outstanding material, including the devotional ‘Jah Jah The Conqueror’ and ‘Long Long Dreadlocks,’ the romance thriller ‘Black Princess Lady’ and the anti-rude boy opus, ‘Cool Down Your Temper.’

Captain Ganja and the Space Patrolis one of the most singular dub albums that barely saw the light of day. A conscious effort to create a new breed of dub centred that around the cosmic synths and keys of Paul Thompson. Making use of an early Roland sampler, Tradition broke away from the standard drum / bass workouts that ruled the day. With the Captain, dub becomes an atmosphere, a feeling, not a formula - littered with babies cries, tribal chants, radiophonic noodlings and library soundtracks for space-age bachelor pads.

LP | 1974 | US | Reissue (Get On Down)

Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
Toots & The Maytals' long and storied musical career spans all the way back to the dawn of ska. The group are not only key figures in the development reggae, they were among the first to utilize the word in a song title which lead to the popularization of the very term reggae. In The Dark is the group’s second internationally released full length, the follow up to Funky Kingston. Like Funky Kingston, this release is in the pantheon of the greatest reggae albums of all time. Sure, that’s not an official list, but you know it when you hear it. In addition to stand out cuts like the James Brown influenced “54-46 Was My Number” that had previously been issued as singles the group recorded all new material at Dynamic Sounds Studios in Kingston. One of those cuts is perhaps the most unique reggae covers of an American hit record. Reggae already had a storied history of Jamaican artist covering American R&B hits. But Toots & The Maytals went where others hadn’t with a cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” If you’re only familiar with the original, well let’s just say Toots Hibbert’s beyond soulful vocals may make you forget you ever heard that other version of the song. Reissued in a lovingly re-printed version of the original LP sleeve, Get On Down now presents a superb reissue of a legendary piece of music history.

In the early 80's, violence take over Jamaica and many artists left the island included Coxsone Dodd. He opened Studio One in New York at 3135 Fulton Street. Few years later, legendary member of The Gaylads, B.B. Seaton, went to New-York to visit Coxsone. B.B. Seaton wrote 'Dancing In The Moonlight' and organized a studio session. He built a riddim close to Earons' classic 'Land Of Hunger'. Then he went to famous Blank Tape studio to mix the tunes. The result is a huge groovy electro disco reggae dub tune. You will get a seven minutes extended mix on A-side with a perfect transition between vocal and version. The B-side contains one version, and a drum percussions instrumental. This reissue was made from the original master tape and the spirit of the first artwork.

On the A side a superb version of "Man Next Door". The song has been originally recorded by John Holt with his group The Paragons in 1968 on Duke Reid's Duke label and since then it has been covered by numerous other reggae artists including Dennis Brown, UB40 and Horace Andy, becoming a massive hit thanks to Andy's more recent version with trip-hop superstars Massive Attack in their album “Mezzazine”. On the flip side you'll find the rock steady scorcher “Austerity Skank” that has already gained support on the airwaves by reagge ambassadords David Rodigan and Don Letts. In their first 10 years Pama Int'l recorded 9 albums, 3 BBCRadio 1 Maida Vale sessions, won the Rebel playlist on BBC6, and became the first new act to sign to Trojan Records in 30 years. Their collective nature saw them work with members of The Specials, Madness, Steel Pulse, Style Council, Galliano, Kasabian, Mad Professor, Toots & The Maytals, Jimmy Cliff to name a few.

Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
One of the very first artists to begin recording in Jamaica, Derrick Morgan is beloved as a ska icon and a pioneer of the ‘skinhead reggae’ style. Blessed with a rich, deep tenor, which with he belts out his clever and often humorous lyrics, Morgan became known on the Kingston music scene through Vere Johns’ regular talent contests, and enjoyed a lengthy run of hits during the 1960s for producers such as Simeon Smith, Duke Reid and Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd (among others), cultivating a popular vinyl feud with Prince Buster after being brought into Leslie Kong’s camp by the young Jimmy Cliff. Morgan moved to England during the late 1960s to capitalise on the skinhead reggae craze, but was back in Jamaica from the early 1970s, and since Bunny Lee was his brother-in-law, the two have always maintained a close working relationship. People Decision, voiced at King Tubby’s studio for Lee and released by Third World in 1977, sees Morgan in politicised roots reggae mode on songs like ‘Let’s Build A Better Jamaica,’ the symbolic racetrack drama ‘Racing At Ballistic Park,’ and the title track, which all boosted the socialist policies of the ruling People’s National Party; ‘Natty Dread Forward Out Of Babylon’ updates the ‘Tougher Than Tough’ saga, and there’s a slew of rude tunes when you flip the disc, including ‘My Dickie,’ ‘Rough Grinder’ and ‘Ride Manny Fanny.’

From the remote township of Te Mata, in the rugged hills of New Zealand, comes a new imprintfollowing in the tradition of mid-80s rub-a-dub from an often overlooked corner of dancehallculture. The brainchild of local farmer and radio personality Red Robin – alongside the deadlyproduction duo Naram and Art – the first 12” features two heavy-like-lead riddims withdiscomix cuts from four unsung heroes of the 80s with conscious, street-level lyrics.Side A finds legendary singer Winston 'Midnight Riders' Powell rise again on a synth-infusedpiece of classic rub-a-dub. Despite being his first release in decades, he delivers a cutting edgevocal from his Kingston 9 borough about life “Outta Road” in the Jamaican capital. He thencrosses live to special agent Speng Bond for a deejay report on the current state of Britain in“Dread Outta Road”.With a more uptempo riddim, the flipside sees Toronto-based 80s star Steve Knight fire sometimely shots at corrupt politicians with “Dem a Fraud” before Los Angeles-based MC Tippa Leecomes correct with a self-affirming deejay cut on “Salute the Veteran”.Both sides are served with one-away dub mixes from Naram and added textural touches fromDisrupt. Six cuts on one record, strictly limited pressings.

Rids the World of the Curse of the Vampires (1981) not only ably displays the mix masters varied approach of, but clocks in as one of his best outings! Scientist keeps things lively with plenty of reverb and echo-treated percussion, ghostly piano parts, video game sound effects, and other various wobbly interjections from the mixing board. And adding to the record’s expert evocation of the Halloween spirit are some fiendishly voiced intros, the cover art’s cartoon potpourri of horror film characters, and the dubious claim made in the liner notes that Scientist mixed it all at midnight on Friday the 13th (reach for the flashlights kids). Along with Keith Hundson’s Pick a Dub and Lee Perry’s Blackboard Jungle Dub, this excellent Scientist release is one of the essential dub albums available.

The selections on this compilation demonstrate exactly how much Lowell 'Sly' Dunbar & Robert 'Robbie' Shakespeare have learned from the roots of reggae, American rhythm & blues and soul, and these versions of contemporary and vintage soul songs show Sly and Robbie at their very best on covers of Little Willie John's “Fever”, Al Wilson's “Show & Tell”, Tony Joe White's “Rainy Night In Georgia” (as covered in soul by Brook Benton), The Delfonics' “Don't Break Your Promise”, The Impressions' “You Must Believe Me”,The Spinners' “Could It Be I'm Falling In Love” and a brace of Marvin Gaye covers in “Sexual Healing” and “Inner City Blues”. All are sung with panache and feeling by the various vocalists and backed up with superior rhythms, showcased here with full-length versions, from Sly and Robbie. For over forty years they have contributed so much to the body of reggae music that they can truly be seen as its backbone. This release is pressed on 180-gram virgin vinyl and comes in a gatefold sleeve with 20-page booklet (8.2” x 8.2”) with extensive liner notes by reggae expert, Noel Hawks.

Mystica Tribe is the musical alias of Tokyo-based producer, Taka Noda. Drawing on a wide range of influences from dub, soul, bass music, rhythm and blues Mystica Tribe has quickly been developing a very distinctive sound that exists in a weird, freaked out zone between dub and techno. Noda is especially interested in deep, psychedelic music, and this is reflected in his productions, which are equally suited for late night listening sessions or bent, broken in dancefloors. His first track, Meditation Stick, was released in 2011 on Dutch label SD Records, backed by two remixes from label owners Syncom Data. This was followed by two more EPs on SD Records in 2013: Stars are Mine and Flowers. Artists like Gilles Peterson and 2562 have supported these well-received releases, and his track. His Temple recently appeared on Pangaea's Fabric Live 73 mix CD. In 2014, Noda is launching his own label, Mystica Tribe Records, through which he plans to continue developing his uniquely psychedelic take on dub and techno. His recent EP, "Lizard", was released on his label in 2014. "Jade Eye EP" was released on his label in 2016.

Tenor singer Johnny Clarke had many false starts in his youthful days. Hanging around Studio One as a schoolboy with Jacob Miller, Clarke was supposed to record material written for him by Bob Andy, but somehow never made the grade. His 1973 debut recording for lesser-known producer Glen Stair was not released, and early work for Clancy Eccles failed to hit, though ‘Everyday Wondering’ for Rupie Edwards made an underground impact in Britain and New York. Subsequent singles for Keith Hudson and Glen Brown also did not get very far, but the breakthrough finally came when Bunny Lee asked him to sing ‘None Shall Escape The Judgement,’ which was written by the singer Earl Zero; it became a massive hit that launched the ‘flying cymbal’ craze (based on an open-and-closed high-hat cymbal pattern, adapted from the Soul Train theme), and Clarke became one of Lee’s most reliable hit-makers, partly because Lee stoked a rivalry between him and Cornell Campbell, whom Lee had previously asked to voice ‘None Shall Escape.’ Clarke’s Satisfaction LP was recorded at Harry J for Lee, voiced at King Tubby’s studio, and issued by Third World in 1979. It is a set largely comprised of cover tunes, such as the strong opening update of the Paragons’ ‘Riding For A Fall,’ the title track adapting their rock steady hit ‘My Satisfaction’ in a post-rockers style. Better still is the hard-hitting ‘reality’ tune, ‘Play Fool, Get Wise,’ which uses a proverb to relate a means of avoiding trouble on the dog-eat-dog mean streets of Kingston.

Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
Tenor saxophonist Tommy McCook is rightly considered a giant of Jamaican music. Chosen by Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd to be leader of the Skatalites in the early 1960s, he went on to become the chief exponent of rock steady as leader of the Supersonics house band at Treasure Isle. McCook remained a key session player throughout the reggae era, and during the roots reggae heyday of the mid-1970s, his expressive melodies found particularly strong outlet, especially on the music he created for grassroots producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee as a member of the Aggrovators, the studio outfit Lee hand-picked from the cream of Jamaica’s musical crop. When enhanced by the adventurous mixing experiments of King Tubby, the engineer that turned dub into an art form, instrumental Aggrovators music became positively ethereal, yielding an exceptional listening experience. On King Tubby Meets The Aggrovators At Dub Station, Tommy McCook blows mean sax and flute over dubs of outstanding tracks by Johnny Clarke, Cornell Campbell, Linval Thompson, Delroy Wilson, and others greats. First issued on Third World in 1976, this vinyl reissue comes complete with four thematic bonus tracks, and the whole disc makes for essential listening.

Jerome Meyer AKA Von D is a master craftsman, well-known for releasing dubstep and bass music since 2009. On an increasingly prolific trajectory since last year, recent 12”s on Infernal Sounds, Trojan Audio and Scotch Bonnet have signaled his renewed focus on dubwise productions. We are proud to say that Von D’s Khaliphonic debut sees him fully committing to reggae and dub - in his words, “going back to my musical roots.”“Politricks” is a masterwork, cut from the same living rock as the classic Cuss Cuss riddim, a simply huge bass and drum workout that is truly one for the ages. Politricks is an anthem for now, a call to avoid the dead-end of politics-as-usual and a warning to beware of the lies politicians tell to keep themselves in power - full of promises but changing nothing. Von D says that “working with Don Cotti was very natural,” and their easy relationship is audible - the tune fits the vocal like a glove, and Cotti’s instantly-recognizable singjay style gives even more gravitas to an already heavy track. The dub version spools out the saturated echoes even further, and opens up spectral chambers of reverb that shimmer and glow.“Ygrec” is an equally massive tune, just as compelling if more meditative and mysterious, coming in both one drop and power-steppers mixes for maximum versatility and vibes. Both tunes and their versions feature an incredibly robust, warm, human sound - one that simply can’t come from machines alone - live drums, bass, and kete drum among other instruments maintain the tradition of live musicians in dub - to say nothing of expert desk-based mixing and deployment of live analog effects the way the elders intended. Both tunes dial in at 140 making them perfect for roots and dubstep selectors alike. Von D got his start as a drummer and engineer outside Paris, in the heady days of original jungle. Early releases on Disfigured Dubz, Hench, Boka, Black Acre and the seminal V Recordings, as well as his reggae-oriented Liquid Wicked project, cemented his reputation. Don Cotti is a prolific producer, DJ and MC with releases stretching back to 2006 on labels as varied as Bass Face, Studio Rockers, and Soul Jazz.Mastered by Lewis at Star Delta.Art & design by Polygon Press.12” vinyl only, limited to 800 copies for the world. Toots & The Maytals' long and storied musical career spans all the way back to the dawn of ska. The group are not only key figures in the development reggae, they were among the first to utilize the word in a song title which lead to the popularization of the very term reggae. Among the numerous musical accomplishments of Frederick "Toots" Hibbert and his group was the song "Pressure Drop", which was released initially in 1970, but received widespread acclaim for its appearance in the soundtrack to the film"Harder They Come". It's since been covered by The Clash, The Specials, The Selecter, Robert Palmer, and numerous others, has been rated by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and is credited with helping introduce reggae music to the world. Though originally released in 1970, the US wouldn't get to experience "Pressure Drop" until 1975, when it was released on the US version of their album "Funky Kingston", easily considered one of the strongest albums in Toots & The Maytals' catalog, not to mention one of the greatest in reggae history. Upon its release in the States it received massive critical applause (even warming the cold, icy heart of Robert Christgau) for its infectious melodies and rhythms on tracks like "Sailing On", "Time Tough", and theeponymous title track, quirky Jamaica-infused covers of tracks by John Denver and Ike Turner, and of course the influential "Pressure Drop." Reissued in a lovingly re-printed version of the original LP sleeve, Get On Down now presents a superb reissue of a legendary piece of music history.

Burro Banton / Rider Shafique / Shanti D / DJ Madd Dub-Stuy’s riddim series returns with a fresh take on a Jah Shaka classicDub-Stuy returns with the second installment of their riddim series in which the Brooklyn-based collective pays homage to the tradition of Jamaican dancehall riddims with a fresh modern twist and versions from an international line-up of vocalists.Following an update of King Jammy’s Punanny riddim on the first release of the series, Dub-Stuy is taking on yet another classic. This time, DJ Madd brings the classic Kunta Kinte riddim into the 21st century with rolling drums, floating percussion, and weighty bass anchoring the timeless and irresistible melody that has come to define the riddim for generations of fans. First brought to the attention of UK dub fans by the mighty Jah Shaka , and originally recorded by a little known band from Battersea, Kunta Kinte has become a staple of dub music’s evolution, with its eponymous flute melody making numerous appearances over the decades in both underground and mainstream hits. For their 2017 edition, Dub-Stuy has brought three different vocalists from Jamaica and Europe to voice the riddim in a positive stance: Kingston legend Burro Banton preaches to the youth on ‘Nah Sell Out’; Rider Shafique, whose unique voice and delivery has been a hallmark of the Bristol scene for the past few years, travels Over The Oceans to celebrate the links between worldwide sound system fans; and finally France’s Shanti D takes a break from his work with OBF to bring it all together Inna Different Style. With Kunta Kinte Riddim 2017, Dub-Stuy takes us on a journey through the history of a famed riddim, connecting both style and sound from past dub sessions to current dancefloors.

Crucial heavyweights Poldoore and Emapea each take on a side of this Cold Busted 7-inch single, the latest in a bi-monthly series of Dub / Reggae cuts exhumed from the label’s golden vault. Belgium’s Poldoore commandeers the A-side with an instrumental version of ”This Road“, a track originally found on his acclaimed 2016 album “The Day After”. Stirringly dubwise, the cut is wet with atmosphere and the ping of spring reverb, as a tuneful horn section carries the main melody. Flip the wax for accomplished Polish beat-maker Emapea and his delightfully skankin’ ”Rudeboy“. Previously appearing on the In Dub 3 compilation, “Rudeboy" showcases Emapea’s knack for combining samples from multiple genres into one cohesive, steamy gumbo. With either track, B-boys and natty dreads alike will give the dance floor a serious workout as the needle meets the vinyl.

As the sixties came to a close, Laurel Aitken was firmly established as Britian's favourite Jamaican performer, enormously popular with members of both the country's West Indian ex-pat communities and its rapidly growing Reggae-loving Skinhead population. Unsurprisingly, competition to gain rights to his works among the country's leading Jamaican music companies was fierce and often bitter, so when, early in 69, Pama Records acquired his signature, the achievement was rightly regarded as a major coup by the London-based operation. Over the weeks that immediately followed, Laurel duly provided Pama with a number of best-selling singles, and while single artist compilations by Jamaican artists were still considered a rarity, such was the demand for the singer's music the company wasted little time in issuing a long-playing collection: Scandal In Brixton Market. Featuring a handful of previously released sides along with seven recordings exclusive to the collection, the LP also featured guest appearances from two of the UK's most popular Jamaican acts, Girlie and celebrated trombonist, Rico Rodriquez. A must-have collection for all Reggae fans, Scandal In Brixton Market quickly sold out at stores the length and breadth of the country, and over the years that have followed it has become increasingly scarce. It is therefore with great pleasure that some 45+ years after its original release, Radiation Reissues is able to present it again on vinyl.

Jackie Mittoo’s contribution to reggae music is immeasurable. Of mixed Indian and African-Jamaican heritage, the man born Donat Roy Mittoo was a gifted musician that played piano in the Skatalites at the age of 16. He was a very important part of reggae’s evolution, having been a crucial member of the Studio One house band from its very foundation days, being employed as the main keyboardist and musical arranger for an extended period, working closely there with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and countless other important figures, as well as relegating Leroy Sibbles to the bass. Although Mittoo migrated to Canada in the late 1960s, he frequently returned to Jamaica to record, maintaining his Studio One connection, and also issuing a sublime series of albums for Bunny Lee in the mid-1970s. The Keyboard King was first issued on Third World in 1976, and features Mr. Mittoo’s delightful organ workouts, completely reconfiguring hits by John Holt, Johnny Clarke, Cornell Campbell, and Bunny & Skully, among others.

The dub album any discerning House music lovers will enjoy! A playful mixture of modern beats with deep roots Reggae influences, all heavily processed in an old-fashioned manner with a political and social messages expressed through.Riddim Research Lab is a project from two UK based music outsiders, going under the names of Gordon Brown Jr and DJ Neeet. Lay-Far discovered their music by sheer chance, stumbling upon one of the members (DJ Neeet) in the notorious Reckless Records in London's Soho when browsing through the 'Dub' section of the shop. A brief discussion around the reissue of Mikey Dread's album ensued, revealing the stranger's knowledge of roots Reggae and Dub. Before giving recommendations on several classic albums and saying goodbye, the man handed over a CDR with what was described as "some dub-influenced beats I'm working on with my friend. If you like King Tubby and house - you may enjoy it."Lay-Far was excited by this unexpected gift but as it usually happens with globetrotting DJs he easily forgot it in the back pocket of his record bag. It was not until a year later when he discovered the long-presented artefact. What he finally heard was an exciting mixture of modern beats with deep roots reggae influences, all heavily processed in an old-fashioned manner with an obvious political and social message expressed through the music.Lay-Far directly got in touch with the duo via the email that was neatly carved into the CDR and motivated them to come out of the shadows, advising several labels they should try and sign their music to, one of which happened to be G.A.M.M. The result is now finally ready to be enjoyed by everyone, not just Lay-Far!

An essential guide to the Dancehall Reggae/Hip-Hop clash that ruled New York in the early 1990s as Shinehead, Supercat, Mad Lion, Bobby Konders and many more rewrote the rules of Dancehall, Reggae and Rap. Killer heavyweight tracks, non-stop. Essential! From Kool Herc onwards, Jamaicans who grew up in New York City have played pivotal roles in the development of the city’s musical identity. Hip-Hop, born in the Bronx, was always hot-wired to Jamaica and in the 1990s the two became inextricably joined when reggae met rap in New York City.??Dynamite NYC brings together the many artists who created this unique scene, linking together two of the world’s most important musical cultures – hip-hop and reggae.?In the early 1990s, Jamaican dancehall - including artists from this home-grown New York scene - became the subject of close scrutiny by the US major record industry who, having made vast profits from hip-hop, searched out Jamaican or Jamaican-descended artists who could potentially crossover into the vast US hip-hop market. Jamaican dancehall artists were signed to big US contracts (Yellowman, Supercat, Capleton, Shabba Ranks). And New York, previously a satellite town of Kingston for visiting Jamaican artists, but now with its own unique dancehall scene became a focal point as artists such as Shinehead, Red Foxx, Jamal-Ski, Mad Lion, and others were quickly signed up to major record companies.??100%Dynamite NYC features these and many other New York reggae/hip-hop crossover artists in this first album to feature the music from this scene.

Limited edition for Record Store Day 2017!U-Roy was a true reggae pioneer, dubbed The Originator for good reason. Bursting onto the Jamaican scene in the earliest 1970s, he pioneered the vocal approach called “toasting,” which in addition to branching out Jamaican music into a new era, was also heavily influential on an American genre in its infancy: rapping. On “Dread In A Babylon”, his third full-length, he stretches out over traditional roots grooves provided by the Soul Syndicate and Skin, Flesh & Bones bands, riffing on topics including love (“Runaway Girl,” a 1975 single released in the UK on Virgin Records); the Bible (“The Great Psalms”); walking the straight and narrow (“Listen To The Teacher”); and even his take on governmental policy goals (“Chalice In The Palace”). The album finishes with an instrumental version of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ “Trench Town Rock,” for good measure. U-Roy’s style and charisma are always on display, and – as with all of his classic records – the groove rules all. Presented on black vinyl with a poster of the glorious, ganja-drenched cover art, it’s the perfect chance to revisit one of the more underrated voices in Jamaican musical history.

Soul Jazz Records’ new journey into the mighty vaults of Clement Dodd’s Studio One steps once more into the fertilemusical environment of Jamaican music in the late 1960s and early 1970s, from the sweet harmony vocals ofseminal 1960s Rocksteady right up to the nascent birth of Reggae and Roots music at the start of the 1970s.Sleevenotes to this album are by Steve Barrow, author of ‘Rough Guide to Reggae’ as well as Soul Jazz Records’ own‘Reggae Soundsystem Cover Art’ books. While Ska at the start of the 1960s had taken American Rhythm and Blues as its main influence, Rocksteady focusedon the emergence of American Soul music – with Jamaican vocal harmony groups such as The Gaylads, John Holt &The Paragons, Carlton & The Shoes showing a particular fascination with the close harmonies of Curtis Mayfield andThe Impressions and other US Soul acts. Here The Heptones even feature with a cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘I Shall BeReleased’.The influence of Soul music on Jamaican Rocksteady and Reggae is almost palpable, so much so that one wondershow much more successful singers like Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis, Slim Smith and John Holt would have been hadthey been born in Chicago, Detroit or Memphis.Artists such as Alton Ellis, Delroy Wilson and Owen Gray defined the era – a slowed down beat as Jamaican politicaland social heat slowly increased when the 1960s progressed into the start of the 1970s – and the music evolvedfurther from Rocksteady into Roots Reggae.

A selected few of the cuts involve exciting collaborations that are not to be missed. Similar to King Yoof’s recent album endeavour called ‘Homage To The King’, Radikal Guru exerts his speciality in various tempo ranges with the ‘Dub Mentalist’ LP. The result is just as exciting as his existing back catalogue; all mastered to meet the requirements of the true Moonshine vibration. The polish producer once again shows appreciation to both the dancefloor fans and the more meditating listeners. Fusing his compelling sound in dub, reggae and dubstep with timeless, old school samples makes every release a reminiscing journey. The amount of dread and energy will most definitely spark a riot across the globe.Radikal Guru executes his mix-up of dub by incorporating a dose of happiness and psychedelics. The effects take over the mixes in wild fashion; delays spin off the tasty spring reverberation tails, delivering a comfortable setting. Radikal’s horns, including the trumpet, saxophone and trombone joined the Radikal Guru’s live melodica to complement each other in rhythm and sound. The collaborations featuring Moonshine familiars Jay Spaker, Echo Ranks, Solo Banton, Violinbwoy and Earl 16 bless the righteous sound waves, as the bassweight, immersive vocals and tight arrangements speak for themselves. Whether it is the bass weight, vocal parts or simply the rhythms, you know exactly when Radikal Guru’s music is being played on a true sound system. The contribution of the polish dub genius, to the healing of the nations and to global dub culture trembles, as he immediately reveals why his ‘Dub Mentalist’ LP forms an important chapter in our history of Moonshine Recordings material.

It is extremely rare for us to hear music from a young, as-yet unsigned producer that immediately strikes us as this fresh, original, mature, and self-aware.“Awaken Dub” is a 140 power stepper driven by a shimmering melodica figure, delicate guitar plucks, insistent photon torpedo snares and pure 4/4 bass and kick forward motion. “Awaken Dub” was inspired by Tetrad’s “return to dub-inspired music” after an absence, and the personal awakenings this return brought him.“Turn 1” is among the best ‘proper’ dubstep plates we’ve heard in ages, that perfect combination of eyes-down deep hypnosis for the mind and massive body-blow to the corporeal form. All about movement, “Turn 1” is among a set of tunes that got their start on the bus and train, inspired by the “bustling motion and feel” of urban transport. From the rocking, lurching drums to the deceptively simple single-note bassline that won’t let go, sweeping you away like a wobbling lava flow, to the reverb-soaked voice that is “Turn 1"s calling card, this one will focus the dancefloor as few tunes can do. Mastered and cut by the one Lewis at Star Delta Mastering in Devon.

Natural meets modern with this atmospheric take on conscious dancehall. Tippa Irie sounds fresher than ever, his hard-hitting delivery counterbalanced by vocal harmonies, steel pans, strings and live congos. The melodic and instantly singable hook sits on top of a sparse, tight production from Nottingham team The Elementz.

What you have in your hand is Tappa Zukie’s legendary ‘Escape from Hell’ album.Originally released in 1977 as a dub follow up to Tapper’s exceptional 1976 release ‘Tappa Zukie in Dub’ (JRLP044).The ‘In Dub’ album was cut using the great talents of engineer Philip Smart, but when the tracks were pulled together for its follow up ‘Escape to Hell’ Philip Smart had left Jamaica for New York and his replacement at the controls was Prince Jammy.Who had just returned from Canada at the request of King Tubby himself. The purpose was to fill Mr. Smarts position.Tapper was definitely in good hands and at the time he would tell the Prince was soon to become King Jammy due to his outstanding studio work. The ‘Escape from Hell’ set was initially overlooked more to the fact of the small numbers of its original pressing. The album makes great use of Tapper’s extraordinary Channel One rhythms cut with Sly and Robbie’s The Revolutionary’s Band.Great rhythms matched the magic from King Tubby’s studio at the hands of Prince Jammy. We added the cd release for this album and at Tappers request some alternative dubs and tracks that seem to compliment this set.So drop the needle on this great album and judge for yourself......A FINE ALBUM CUT IN FINE STYLE...
