Release:1982 / EU – Reissue
Genre:Reggae / Dancehall
Emotional Rescue and Jamwax come together to present the first of three essential 12's from NY/Jamaican label Capo Disco, all officially licensed and remastered for the first time. The brainchild of reggae vocalist, musician, producer and label owner Glen Adams, the label married disco with his Caribbean roots to perfection. TIP! Born and raised in Jamaica, Adams story is a similar one to the performers of the golden period post-Independence. Initially discovered as a vocalist by Coxsone Dodd, he went on to work with such luminaries as Ken Boothe and Stranger Cole before co-founding The Heptones and working Duke Reid, Bunny Lee and Lloyd Charmers. As a session organist he worked for The Hippy Boys, The Reggae Boys and later with Lee Perry's The Upsetters. Here he came in to the orbit of The Wailors, touring England with them in the early 70s and with Perry co-wrote Mr Brown. When most of The Upsetters became Marley's rhythm section, Adams stayed with Perry before making the move to Brooklyn in 1975.There he started Capo Records, running it and it's sub-labels, successfully until the mid-80s. During these later years he ventured in to mixing Reggae with Boogie and Disco rhythms and released just four 12's under Capo Disco as well as recording boogie and hip-hop influenced releases with T Ski Valley and as Glen Adams Affair for SAM and Moonglow Records. Here then the spotlight is on Adam's nascent disco releases and the series starts with the wonderful, uplifting A Beat For You. Actually appearing on a one off sister-label, Top Secret, this is a beautiful 'Lovers' anthem from Adams over a laidback dub-bass riddim. Backed with a simple instrumental Version, the space and interplay of the keys and guitar over drum and bass is superlative. 'There is a beat in my heart, just for you...just for you.'

Outstanding three track EP from the archives of Caliban (A side project of London musician Milton Myrie; a session guitar player who worked with cult UK buddhist afro and reggae band Ozo as well as on the much sought after Steel and Skin ‘Afro Punk Reggae’ 12”). Talk about bang for ye buck.. 1 side crucial oddball digital cuts, b side sounds like a UK jazz funk classic... Gold Print Sleeve. BIG TIP!Caliban produced only one self-released 7” ‘Open Mind / Digital Reggae’ in 1984.Following the re-discovery of this very little known 7” by Caliban a few years back, UK producer Jackson Bailey aka Tapes managed to track Milton down, who as well as being in possession of most of the stock of the original record, was also sat on a number of amazing unreleased recordings from the Caliban sessions. With an album of unreleased Caliban material compiled by Tapes to follow later on Music From Memory, this EP introduces one of the unreleased tracks; the incredible feel good disco anthem “Supernatural”. Taking us on a glittering, rhythm charged rocket tour of the Funk Cosmos, this until-now-unheard future classic will surely set the summer nights alight. The three track 12” also includes “Digital Reggae” which featured on the original Caliban 7”. This computerised dancehall/funk hybrid was partially penned to address the lack of black culture included in the payload of the United States’ first space station; “Digital Reggae will be included in the Payload of Skylab!”. As well as the original mix, the EP also includes a new dub put together by Milton himself and assisted by riddim specialist Tapes!

After their highly acclaimed album “Dis Side Ah Town” Roger Robinson and disrupt are returning with a reel full of new tales about survival in a Dog Heart City. These stories, delivered in Robinson’s full vocal spectrum between low-end dub poetry tremors and haunting falsetto singing, are trying to make the invisible lives visible: giving people affected by gentrification, racism, unemployment and low wage work a sense of authority and aesthetic nobility. Each song on this tape became a story in that city, while the tape itself is like the city holding these stories. “Nightshift” tells about the workers who clean the buildings where power is held, and the contrast between their lives and where they clean. “Flowers” comments on the rate of young black men getting killed, where another victim dies even before the last mourning flowers have dried. There are stories about tower block life, the claiming of a postcode or how the city wears a Swastika like a proud badge in Post-Brexit UK.This beautiful LP collects a pile of special riddim cuts from the Jahtari vaults, from re-edited classics by Bo Marley, unreleased gems by John Frum, to completely new experiments, all lovingly dubbed live and soaked in analogue goodness by disrupt.Stunning hand-painted cover art by Kiki Hitomi, strictly limited vinyl run! Re-mastered and cut to vinyl by Pole / Scapemastering Berlin.

Long established as one of New Zealand’s finest acts, South Pacific reggae-soul legends The Black Seeds return with their long awaited 6th studio album ‘Fabric’.While firmly based in the island grooves that inspired the birth of the band nearly two decades ago, The Black Seeds’ sound casts a wide net, layering funk, soul, Afrobeat, and other eclectic elements over their dub/reggae foundations. It’s “contemporary groove music with influences from soul and funk and reggae rhythms – and even rock...” explains guitarist/vocalist Barnaby Weir. Lead track “Better Days” is a Black Seeds classic and an exciting taster of what is to come from the new record. Rich with chugging guitars and soothing vocals, the track is warm with a positive message: “Better Days are calling, lonely nights are leaving. I see better Days, are just around the corner. No it wont be long till something good happens for ya.”Described by Clash Magazine as “one of the best live reggae acts on the planet,” The Black Seeds legendary eight-piece live show infuses raw en¬ergy and good vibes wherever they go, fueling multi-platinum sales and a growing worldwide following. With countless sold out tours behind them and performances at many of the world’s leading festivals, The Black Seeds will be bringing touring the new record around the world this summer.

The Frightnrs’ modern classic, Nothing More To Say, masterfully reimagined by producer extraordinaire, Victor Axelrod aka Ticklah. These are the dub versions. It’s rare for a debut album, especially one in such a polarizing genre like Reggae, to garner the kind of universal fanfare The Frighntrs’ 2016 long player Nothing More To Say received. Mainly because it’s a record that transcends genre specific qualifiers and rhetoric that pigeonhole many albums. It is in the truest sense of the phrase, a great record. Shortly after its release a single for Dispute (a featured track) was pressed, and like many classic reggae singles, it included a Dub (version) on the B-Side (courtesy of famed reggae producer Victor “Ticklah” Axelrod). The single was a smash success which in return inspired Axelrod to produce Dub versions for all the songs on Nothing More To Say. The result?! “More To Say” Versions: A fresh take on a modern classic that needs to be heard. This isn’t a repackaging of some remixed material. Each song has been lovingly deconstructed and reimagined by Victor Axelrod - resulting in a wholly original piece of art that is a must for fans of the Frightnrs and Soulful music in general. Limited to 3000 copies and sporting psychedelic 3-D cover art (custom Frightnrs 3-D glasses included) - these puppies will not stay in stock long. Grab ‘em while you can! Don’t make us say “I told you so!”

In the early 80's, violence take over Jamaica and many artists left the island included Coxsone Dodd. He opened Studio One in New York at 3135 Fulton Street. Few years later, legendary member of The Gaylads, B.B. Seaton, went to New-York to visit Coxsone. B.B. Seaton wrote 'Dancing In The Moonlight' and organized a studio session. He built a riddim close to Earons' classic 'Land Of Hunger'. Then he went to famous Blank Tape studio to mix the tunes. The result is a huge groovy electro disco reggae dub tune. You will get a seven minutes extended mix on A-side with a perfect transition between vocal and version. The B-side contains one version, and a drum percussions instrumental. This reissue was made from the original master tape and the spirit of the first artwork.

Spanning nearly 30 years of revolutionary music and featuring the music of Count Ossie, Johnny Clarke, The Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, Ras Michael and The Sons of Negus, Bongo Herman, Roy Ashanti (The Congos), Earth & Stone, Mutabaruka and many more, this is an in-depth look at some of the most unique and righteous music ever made and comes complete with a 40+ page outsize booklet, containing exclusive photography and extensive historical and contextual sleevenotes. The new religion of Rastafari emerged in Jamaica during a time of intense political and social change in the 1930s. The first stirrings of anti-colonialism and workers’ rights were in motion, while Marcus Garvey’s Back-to-Africa movement was beginning to wane. But the pivotal catalyst to the birth of the Rastafari faith was the crowning of a black king in Africa in 1930.One of the earliest mentions of Ethiopia in Jamaican music can be found on mento singer Lord Lebby and the Jamaican Calpysonians’ 1955 recording ‘Etheopia’. In the song Noel Williams, aka Lord Lebby, discusses Ethiopianism, the political movement that calls for a return to Africa for black people. The 1960s saw the emergence of the first Rastafarian music on record with Count Ossie’s Rastafarian drummers. The visit of Haile Selassie to Kingston in 1966 was like an electric current throughout Kingston’s music scene – many of who had become adherents to the Rastafari faith. By the 1970s Rastafarianism become practically synonymous with reggae, as many roots reggae artists became known throughout the world, led by the success of Bob Marley and The Wailers. At the source of the music of Rastafari is the figurehead master drummer and leader Count Ossie, who first bought the deeply spiritual nyabinghi and burro rhythms heard and played at sacred Rastafarian grounation (reasoning) sessions into popular Jamaican music through his many collaborations and performances with artists – from The Skatalites to The Folks Brothers - and producers – including Clement Dodd, Prince Buster and Harry Mudie. At the start of the 1970s Count Ossie formed the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari with saxophonist Cedric Brooks, which immediately became the most significant group of the Rastafari faith, bringing together authentic rasta nyabinghi drumming together with spiritual and avant-garde jazz influences of Sun Ra, John Coltrane and Albert Ayler into a truly unique and groundbreaking sound. As ‘roots reggae’ artists in the 1970s continued to spread the word of Jah (God) in their music, Rastafari reggae became the ultimate rebel sound throughout the world.

This is Soul Jazz Records’ latest new collection of classic and rare Studio One recordings. By the 1970s Studio One and Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd had already proved himself to be the defining force in Reggae for almost two decades. From running the Downbeat sound system on the lawns and yards of Kingston in the late 1950s to opening Studio One at 13 Brentford Road at the start of the 1960s, ushering in Ska and Rocksteady and establishing the careers of most of Jamaica’s artists – everyone from Bob Marley and The Wailers, Ken Boothe, Toots and The Maytals, The Skatalites, Jackie Mittoo and more – Clement Dodd had until this point dominated the Jamaican musical world. And yet, incredibly, Clement Dodd was barely half way through his musical path, maintaining Studio One’s number one position in the Jamaican music scene throughout the 1970s with a combination of musical and creative innovation and an endless capacity to adapt and create new musical fashions. By the end of the 1970s Dancehall had become the defining sound on the island. Dancehall was essentially a tribute by other Jamaican producers and artists to the classic music of Studio One created in the 1960s as young artists across the island created new songs, while musicians recreated these original classic foundation Studio One rhythms. As on other occasions, Clement Dodd rose to this new musical challenge by producing a whole new era of classics for Studio One.The roots of Dancehall begin with the DJs of the early 1970s, who were the first to sing new material over earlier classic rhythms. Early DJ pioneers such as Dillinger and Prince Jazzbo both feature here toasting over classic songs - The Mad Lad’s Ten to One and The Eternals’ Queen of the Minstrel. But it is the new wave of artists who arrived at Studio One at the onset of Dancehall which enabled Studio One to maintain its number one status as the whole of Kingston’s rival music producers – Channel One, Joe Gibbs and many others – attempted to challenge this position. Sugar Minott, Michigan and Smiley, Willie Williams, Lone Ranger had all grown up listening to the classic Studio One music of the 1960s and were able to pay the greatest compliment to the label by creating the defining new music of this new era with songs that combined all the musical and technological developments of the 1970s – dub, deejaying, discomixes, syndrums, synthesizers and more – into the sound of the future: Dancehall.Throughout this era Clement Dodd also continued to work with a number of original and returning artists – such as Alton Ellis, Horace Andy, Freddie McGregor, Johnny Osbourne – updating old rhythms and creating new ones while employing the in-house band variously known as The Brentford All-Stars/Rockers/Disco Set to update these sounds in order to maintain Studio One’s number one position as the defining force in Reggae.

Ramrock Records are proud to present the new album from musical visionary, Ghetto Priest.Already known to many as the frontman of Asian Dub Foundation and vocalist on their globally acclaimed single 'Fortress Europe', Ghetto Priest has been captivating audiences with his powerful vocals and magnetic stage presence over the past three decades. With a raw energy and spirit un-matched by many artists of his generation, he constantly pushes at the boundaries of roots music; his style strongly maintaining the essence of his Jamaican heritage. Produced by On-U Sound supremo Adrian Sherwood..His latest sermon is a blend of righteous incitements and damning indictments that reflect the paranoia of daily life. Title track 'Every Man For Every Man' asks us to reach out to our fellow neighbour while he delivers a sobering message towards the environment and defending if from the evils of a money-motivated government on 'Sacred Ground'.On the mystical 'Good Lord', Ghetto Priest seeks spiritual guidance and his raw primal energies and forces come to light in a passionate re-working of the Robert Burns poem, 'I Murder Hate', before the trials and triumphs of black women are voiced in the Judy Mowatt song, 'Black Woman'. On the little-known Peter Tosh song, 'Babylon Queendom', he passionately announces Babylon's fall, demanding back the riches she's plundered.

Drummer and music producer Desmond Mahoney is another of the unsung heroes of British reggae. Born in Jamaica, he moved to the UK in 1967 and began his professional career playing drums in a band called Young Ones From Zion. He was a founding member of Black Slate when the group formed in 1974, played with them through their glory years and after running a sound system in North London for many years, returned to the fold when the group reformed a few years ago. His first foray in music production probably came during a brief period in Toronto in 1978, working with a band called the Ishan Lions, but he was back in the UK in time for Black Slate’s breakthrough material, which brought them onto Ensign in the UK, Barclay in France and Alligator in the USA. At the same time, he continued to arrange and produce for a number of British reggae artists operating in both the roots and lover’s rock modes; female duo Nya & Natty’s ‘One Love Stylee’ seemed to bridge the two styles quite successfully on this greatly sought-after 12-inch, first issued in 1981 on the S&G label, then based at a record shop in Bow.

Named after the Soundtracs CM4400 console in the duo's Bristol studio sides A & B are deep, brooding synth instrumentals, showcased at the Deep Medi Boiler Room set, and reminiscent of greats like Dread & Fred and Sound Iration. Sides C & D feature very special remixes by Leeds digital legends Iration Steppas, with an extra remix of Dubkasm's killer 10" No Retreat. The second 12" is unmistakably the work of Mark Iration: filled with growling filter bass and siren-like keyboards, Year 3000 style! These tunes are already soundsystem killers.

Rids the World of the Curse of the Vampires (1981) not only ably displays the mix masters varied approach of, but clocks in as one of his best outings! Scientist keeps things lively with plenty of reverb and echo-treated percussion, ghostly piano parts, video game sound effects, and other various wobbly interjections from the mixing board. And adding to the record’s expert evocation of the Halloween spirit are some fiendishly voiced intros, the cover art’s cartoon potpourri of horror film characters, and the dubious claim made in the liner notes that Scientist mixed it all at midnight on Friday the 13th (reach for the flashlights kids). Along with Keith Hundson’s Pick a Dub and Lee Perry’s Blackboard Jungle Dub, this excellent Scientist release is one of the essential dub albums available.

In the great tradition of Count Ossie, four new grounation furies — hypnotic, thunderous, urgent, mystical — with dubwise repeta, funde and bass drums embedding the Light Of Saba veteran's gorgeous trombone classicism. The opener is a rocking kumina rhythm, with ring-the-alarm metal percussion and exhortatory brass; Free The People swirls some apocalyptic reasoning into the foggy, thumping mix. Universe In Crisis is another emergency call, chuffing headlong down the grooves... before the beautiful, anthemic Chant takes a step back from the fire, closing with a sense of thankful, spiritual reconciliation, the expert drumming and lyrical bone-work in full effect.

Devon Lyon, born Devon Bailey, moved to Kingston in the 70's to live in Trenchtown with his mum, his sister and his brother named Dennis. Dennis was working in the new Kingston area on a construction site. Dennis met a friend who worked at the construction site and that friend was the lead singer from the group The Chantells..Dennis told The Chantells lead singer that his brother was singing at home like he was singing everyday on construction work site. The Chantells lead singer told Dennis to bring his brother Devon. One day, Devon came with his brother Devon and they met the three members of the group The Chantells. They became friends. Devon started to verse with them in the evening and they really like him style. With the help of The Chantells group, Devon recorded his first track « Shine Eye Girl » in 1978. One day, his cousin from london Phil Matthias came to Jamaica to see his family. Phil loved the song « Shine Eye Girl » because he heard it on the radio in London a few months before. Phil realized Devon was his cousin so he was searching for Devon to record a song.« Shadow After Dark » was recorded in 1979 at famous Byron Lee studio « Dynamics » with In Crowd band. The In Crowd band were a christian group. They were going to church every sunday. Devon Lyon wrote this lyrics because he get stealt many times by someone in the night at his home but never really knew who it was. Everytime he wake up, he only saw a shadow from the window. So he realized someone was in his house. Everytime we wake up with his machette but he never see the thief. So he wrote « i will never, never will i ever, trust no shadow after dark ».Phil Matthias produced the song but never paid his cousin. Everytime Devon was asking him for royalties, he told another story so after a while Devon started to move forward. Actually he didn't know what to do to get his royalties. He stopped the music and languish into obscurity for more than 30 years.Few years ago, Devon Lyon met Enrico Vicari, an italian reggae lover living in Jamaica. Enrico is the man behind « Vinyl Club Jamaica ». One day, Devon brought him his two songs and ask Enrico to play them. Everyone liked it. Devon also took the microchophe to sing on the b-side more than 30 years after the release of his tune. Enrico get the idea to capture this moment (check youtube) so the world will know Devon Lyon is still alive and well.

The fourth studio album by New Kingston (and second with Easy Star Records) is a conceptual journey that tracks the personal histories, journeys, and current lives of the New Kingston family, transforming these stories into a seamless musical piece. While the concept is strong, it doesn't overshadow the excellence of the individual songs, including early singles "Come From Far," and "Honorable & The Beast," as well as "Starlight," a collaboration with Pressure Busspipe, and the anthemic, romantic "Agape," among others. Produced by the band with their longtime musical mentor and Grammy winner Fabian Cooke, A Kingston Story: Come From Far is a new listening experience for the American progressive reggae scene, one that will help New Kingston move forward as an innovator among their peers.

Delroy Wilson the original ‘Cool Operator’ was also known to many as ‘Teacher’.A title given to him as he unselfishly taught the up and coming singers including one youth Dennis Brown, the art and delivery of singing technique.Delroy’s rich tone to his voice added a depth to any song that he chose to sing.Delroy Wilson (b.1948 Kingston,Jamaica) began his musical career at the school that was Coxonne Dodd’s studio One label. After a brief stop in 1969,which saw Delroy working for producer Sonia Pottinger’s Tip Top label.Again producing such hits including ‘It Hurts’ and ‘Put Yourself in my Place’.The 1970’s saw Delroy Wilson’s arrival at Bunny ’Striker ’Lee’s door and what would result in a winning formula, scoring hit after hit.It is from this great period in Delroy’s career that we have compiled this selection of killer tunes, cut with the drum and bass rhythm kings themselves Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare.Such classis as ‘Who Care’ ,’Can I Change Your Mind’,’Get Ready’,’You Must Believe Me’ and the timeless title track to this collection ‘Here Comes the Heartaches’.An album of great tracks cut with ‘The Hitmaker from Jamaica’ Bunny Lee and his team.A match made in Heaven….Enjoy the set….

As is the case with fellow ‘enforcers’-turned-producers, Henry ‘Junjo’ Lawes and Philip ‘Fatis’ Burrell, George Phang had been involved in the internecine street battles that had split Kingston into rival politically-aligned zones during the 1970s, when the broader effects of Cold War politics were played out in Jamaica. Following some encouragement from Sly and Robbie, Phang changed focus, putting the politics aside to concentrate on music production, becoming one of the most important producers of the early 1980s in the process. Phang took over the rhythm twins’ Power House label around 1982, and with the duo forming the mainstays of his productions, the result was guaranteed audio dynamite, as this killer devotional track by Barrington Levy from 1983 so amply suggests—a beautiful extended slice of late roots, heading towards the emerging dancehall style.

Brand New 2017 Recut - finally available on Vinyl for the First time. 2LP+Mp3 in full Original Coverart. The legendary movie soundstrack based out of Kingston, Jamaica in April 2008, telling the story of the original vocalists and musicians involved. The sixteenth release on the Moll-Selekta label shares its title with a wonderful film, a heartwarming homage to the golden age of rocksteady. It documents the recordings being made for this very album at the Tuff Gong studios, Kingston, Jamaica in April 2008, telling the story of the original vocalists and musicians involved. Excerpts from an all star reunion concert staged in Kingston and older archive material complete the picture. Never before in the history of Jamaica, which already occupies a unique place on the world map of song, its sound embraced by western popular music, has such an illustrious collection of singers and players been assembled. The album showcases 15 rocksteady classics in sparkling, deeply inspired new versions, recorded in the studio which also played host to album sessions of a certain Bob Marley. Under the musical direction of Ernest Ranglin, a guitarist of considerable renown not only on the reggae circuit, but also on the jazz scene, mixed by legendary engineer Errol Brown - in Duke Reid’s employ at the Treasure Isle studio in the sixties - and freshly arranged by Lynn Taitt.

The album classic was originally issued in 1977 in Jamaica only and 20 years later in 1997 released by the Blood & Fire label as the outstanding but now deleted "Heart Of The Congos". VP Records' sub-label 17 North Parade release now the definitive 2017 re-mastered 3CD / 3LP deluxe edition put together with both respect and gratitude to that illustrious antecedent. This new 3 disc-set and 3LP-Vinyl-set is the first to feature the now almost impossible to find, original mix of the album, unavailable since producer Lee Perry withdrew the set in 1977 following the refusal of Chris Blackwell's Island Records team to licence the album (Disc 3), together with the more well-known mix, dubs, disco mixes, seven and twelve inch versions and "Don’t Blame It On I" an overlooked previously unreleased track unearthed (Disc 2) and the 'Blood & Fire' Kevin Metcalfe master (Disc 1).

1973 was a turning point for Jamaican music. Perry Henzell’s highly-acclaimed film “The Harder They Come” had come out the year before and Bob Marley had just signed with Island Records and was about to take the World by storm. In July 1973, Rolling Stone Magazine published “The Wild Side of Paradise”, a major story about Jamaica and its vibrant musical scene written by Michael Thomas with striking photos by Arthur Gorson. The pair had travelled to the island to soak up the atmosphere and immerse themselves in the local music scene. There they met a 28 year old Marley who was about to tour Europe. “The Wild Side of Paradise”, published by Rolling Stone in July 1973 was a bold move for the magazine. Jamaican music was essentially unknown in the Western World up to that point. “Revolution was in the air and, ten years into independence, Jamaica was on fire” Remembers Gorson. Through connections with Island Records’ Chris Blackwell, Thomas and Gorson managed to spend time with Marley and a series of iconic photos of the artist was taken by Gorson, one of which is on the cover of this album. “Wild Side” was the first major feature focusing on Jamaican music and would help put Reggae on the International map. The article was also the seed of Thomas’ future book “Babylon On A Thin Wire” in collaboration Adrian Boot.In 1973, Bob Marley was indeed no newcomer on the Jamaican scene. He’d been active since the early 60s and had recorded some of his most creative output accompanied by his group, The Wailers. This selection takes the listener back to Marley’s music from the late 60s to the early 70s when he was at his best, working with such producers as Lee Perry, Bunny Lee or Leslie Kong and labels such as Wail ‘N Soul ‘N, Beverley’s, Upsetter and Tuff Gong. The music is fresh and undiluted, catchy and inspired and shows Marley’s genius at crafting beautiful melodies. The set features several of his early classics such as “Duppy Conqueror” and “Caution”, as well as lesser-known gems such as “Wisdom” and “Long Long Winter” and songs that would find a second life on his Island albums, such as “Trench Town Rock” or “Concrete Jungle”. Roots of a Revolution.

Trained in the art of deejay toasting by the legendary Dennis Alcapone, Lester Bulllock initially called himself Alcapone Junior, until maverick record producer Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry renamed him Dillinger in the early 1970s, following his success on a west Kingston sound system called Smith the Weapon, based in the ghetto of Payne Avenue. Perry cut Dillinger’s first dozen tracks, and there was early work for other producers such as Prince Tony, Augustus Pablo, Enos McLeod and Phil Pratt; then, Dillinger’s debut album, Ready Natty Dreadie, was a local hit for Studio One, but the CB200 set for Island catapulted him to international prominence. Yet, the Dillinger material with the roughest edge was always produced by Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee, as this LP, Answer My Question, so amply demonstrates. First issued in the Netherlands on the Scramble label in 1977, it shows Dillinger on fearsome form, his relaxed rhyming toasts tackling sound system matters, the Rastafari lifestyle, action movie subplots, the highs and lows of romantic relationships, the need to help the less fortunate, and other burning issues of the day with biting wit and verbal dexterity, all delivered over tough Aggrovators rhythms—including an unusual cut of the ‘Three Piece Suit’ rhythm. Go deh!

Vernon Maytone aka Vernon Buckley started singing from the tender age of fifteen and formed the groupe The Maytones in 1968 with his neighbour Gladstone Grant. The Maytones sucessfully made a string of hits, to name a few "Funny Man", "Loving Reggae", "Serious Love" "Africa We Want To Go". The rare all-Female Top 40/Reggae band in Jamaica called "PEP", and then "WOW" for "Works Of Women" released a few tunes in the mid 80's, mainly on the High Heel label. "Crisis" is a tune about poverty and the crisis that mash up all over the world in the early 80's. This is probably the hardest to find tune of the group. "Crisis" was produced by Fab 5 member Harold Bailey who tried to help the all-Female band in 1985. Only a few boxes of copies were pressed and nowadays you can't find a clean copy for less than several hundred of euros.
