Sbire label boss Isolated Lines and Colombian producer Gotshell come together in an inspired meeting of minds, collaborating on 'Particule' and 'Dual'. On the B-side, two solo tracks from Isolated Lines complete a high quality EP and step in a darker, dancefloor direction for the label.Having met whilst Isolated Lines was touring in Colombia, the pair found common ground in their tendency towards austere atmospherics and tense exercises in rhythm. Their collaborations here are mind-bending bleep techno tracks with high-impact arrangement and sound design; 'Particule' recalling the eerieness of Isolated Lines' 'Obsid' on Tommy Four Seven's label 47. On the flip, his headier side is on show. Alluring pads sweep between the drums like an icy wind, making these the type of tracks that glow within a techno set. The record delivers on the high expectations set for these rising artists and shows Sbire to be pushing the front line.

The second release on Sbire furthers the on-going collaboration between label co-founder Gaspard de La Montagne and Nathan Baumann. 'Spectres' is a bold, seductive and wonderfully-unhurried record which shows the breadth of the Sbire sound world. The title track is orchestral and profoundly alluring, with an earworm bassline creeping out from behind the kick drum's refined thud. You're pulled further in by the lengthy intro of 'Aube', where floating pads, draw from the instrumental flair of classical music. Mid-way through they give way to a stripped-back bassline, exemplifying the nature of this collaboration.B-side opener 'Masque' has harmonic beams of light swirling over its foundations. The melodies transfix and the drums keep time. 'Perspectives (1 & 2)' occupies a thin veil of haze, tempering the beat and bringing out the groove in the baggy percussion. In fitting style, it ends a record whose grace comes in the striking interactions between elements far-removed.

SBIRE begins. The newly founded label is curated by Swiss artists Isolated Lines, known for his edgy and razor sharp productions (on Tommy Four Seven's 47, among others), and Gaspard de la Montagne, who has been perfecting his sculptural and curiously optimistic vision of techno through his EPs on Creaked. SBR001 is a well-rounded compilation from their inner circle spanning from Grime over Raw House to Techno. The opening transmission is from La Vie C'est Facile: A colourful and unpredictable, broken-beat cut that fuses elements of instrumental grime and hip-hop with a striking melody and spacious production. Gaspard De La Montagne (as GDLM) takes a more direct approach: His track builds slowly with a swing to the beat, leaving cavernous bass reverberations and stretched out, droning pads to pull you further in.Isolates Lines' 'Lift' picks up where the A-side left off, mining a similar groove to GDLM's 'Larson' to equally stirring effect. The drums skip around a rubbery bassline as the track phases with sleight of hand progressions. Ockham & Soloporunbesso's fine contribution brings a Detroit edge to the record, closing it out on the crunch and sci-fi squelches of 'Hanche'. It ends a bold and neatly-executed EP that promises high quality and signals to the diverse intentions of the label.
