Seilscheibenpfeiler starts the new year with a bang, just as we concluded 2018 thanks to FJAAK’s pumped „Drugs“-EP. Legendary Italian producer Lory D, the man who revived the label after 24 years with his killer 4-track-set on SSPB001, once again steps up with his signature blend of techno, acid and electro. As his last release, „Play With Deaf Cats“ comes with three original tracks and an edit by Marcel Dettmann, who has the ability to tune down Lory’s productions and enhance their hypnotic quality while maintaining their powerful substance. First track „Mantrosax 2“ is a heavy stomper led by a warped and overdriven acid bassline. „Bass And The City“ dives deeper into low frequency darkness, with less tempo but no less intense. „Mazesku“ changes aesthetics, sounding airy and clear with its playful synth melodies. Lory D is a producer that defies categorization, always being able to combine classic feel and future shock within the same track. Marcel Dettmanns closes out the record with his atmospheric and suspenseful edit of „Globe“ – hard boiled techno gracefully executed.

FJAAK is a hell of a drug. We know you like some more. It was only a matter of time before your favorite Spandau-repping producer trio would grace a release on Seilscheibenpfeiler with their unmistakably powerful productions.Following up Solid Blake’s slamming electro excursions on SSPB005, FJAAK put us back into 4/4 territory with two highly addictive techno belters and a sweaty, break-y rave epic.FJAAK do what they do best: They draw inspiration and references from various past eras and shape it into something truly now and original. It’s probably not even on purpose, all the history seems to be in their young blood.First track „3XL“ instantly starts with a heavy breakbeat and a darkly soaring bassline, bringing in some acid and vocal fragments that carry you back to the early 90s. Their famed hands-on approach to a predominantly hardware set-up is discernible throughout the EP.„Quimes“ continues with 135 bmp of straight, queerly melodic and kick drum focused techno, pure and rich at the same time. „Drugs“ is even more stripped down, laying all its force into the drums and repeating its title all over again. You decide whether this is music to take drugs to or rather some kind of sardonic commentary. It certainly gets you high.

Acclaimed Copenhagen-based DJ and Producer Solid Blake delivers the exhilarating four-track ‘Warp Room’ EP, demonstrating why she has such a bright future as a solo artist. Opening track ‘Warp Room’ is a full throttle and energetic cut displaying a stabbing synth line which cuts in and out creating a dark, intense atmosphere, setting the tone for what is to follow. ‘Soap Cube’ pulsates throughout, displaying a nod to the dirtier side of vintage electro, thanks to its edgy percussion and distorted synths. The melancholic ‘Tissue’ opens with a growl as the fierce drums and hissing snares pierce through any softness to reveal its icy heart. Closing track ‘Contract’ has a deep, atmospheric and moody vibe with cleverly crafted layers which continue to build, rounding off the EP perfectly.

Seilscheibenpfeiler 003 comes from Canadian native Graham Douglas via his moniker Nautiluss. Having released several EPs on Turbo and Hemlock, he’s now bringing his bass influenced sound from Toronto to Berlin. In Liquid Sky and Reak, Nautiluss puts his skillful use of percussive elements into action, completed by playful synth lines and thus creating heavy bass vibes which won’t let you keep your feet still. However, there’s no such thing as a comfort-zone for him! Inky, surely the hidden gem on this EP, shows a different side of his production skills: Starting like a 4/4 warehouse banger, it gets a full on twist à la Nautiluss. An energetic ending to his first release on Seilscheibenpfeiler...

The second 2019 release on Seilscheibenpfeiler is reserved for one of the most unique producers of our times and marks the label’s most experimental moment yet. Peder Mannerfelt’s discography stretches back more than ten years to when he first started putting out techno records as The Subliminal Kid. Amongst other things he helped producing two acclaimed albums by fellow Swedish artists Fever Ray and gained recognition under his real name, especially in recent years with releases for Numbers. or Hinge Finger and critically acclaimed albums like „Controlling Body“ (2016) or „Daily Routine“ (2018) on his own imprint.Last year Mannerfelt contributed to Modeselektion Vol. 4, now he’s back with a set of four tracks following his unique strain of abstract techno. „Life Without Friction“ is about disruption as well as peculiar moods and rhythms, and other than its title may suggest, there’s a lot of friction and tenseness in these tracks. The title cut and „Un - Air“ show Mannerfelt in almost straightforward mode, always ensuring it never gets boring or too comfortable. „Lucid In The Sky“ and „Hold The Line“ combine mellow sounds with stabs of noise and twisted percussion. As always, Peder Mannerfelt’s productions remain unpredictable, but predictably great.
