A veritable sonic triptych: awash with ever so funky tripped out modern-day psychedelia. Adorned with jazzy trumpet, sax and flute, softly undulating beats and slinky guitar - shapes that hark back to the old school with a reference to what's current. A retro modernity is in effect here: a nod to the past, however, with a vision of the future.

It's a strong and melodic album that drips with swaggering, insouciant cool, set against a panoply of unified silky grooves and rhythms with a slippery electronic, yet organic backbeat. It gets taken into an entirely new emotional realm when Barrie's dubbed up vocal hooks kick in. The female vocals on 'I Am A Woman', 'Walkin' and on 'You Are My Sunshine' are top-notch.

Suffice to say there are no fillers on this album, just finely distilled and exquisite slow jams. Even the most cursory listen to RRR #3 informs you that he's still doing things that no one else does. This is, without doubt, his best work to date, the icing on the cake on this clever and well-produced concept. A triple dynamite delight. (Emrys Baird – Blues & Soul)

“I was a product of the times and the product became the producer. I designed the clothes, ran the club, played the records, was in the band and made the music, which created the scene that changed youth culture worldwide. I just kept falling up hill.” (Barrie Sharpe)…

Rythm Rhyme Revolution LP #1 (Gareth Tasker & Barrie Sharpe): Gareth plays and Barrie produces. Their sound is individual - based upon the funk of the early 70s: however, with a totally modern production. The clean unique Sharpe production places every part of the puzzle into the correct space: “every note is audible”. They are accompanied by the understated, haunting jazzy horn of Kenny Wellington (Beggar & Co / Light Of The World). Fritz Catlin (23 Skidoo) adds the final edge with his Studer 169…

This time they melt some afro-drumming and Ehthio jazz keys into their hazy groover “DirtyStankinMoney”.

Barrie K Sharpe, as most know, was one of the four creators of Duffer, one of the two creators of the “Rare Groove” scene and in the band that defined Acid Jazz - Diana Brown & The Bothers. Indeed he was very much at the forefront of the movement that changed youth culture in the mid 80s.

Diana Brown & The Bothers metamorphosed into The Brand New Heavies, The Young Disciples: &, along With Diana Brown, Barrie had the first Acid Jazz style commercial success with their track “Masterplan”…

“I designed the clothes, ran the club, played the records, was in the band and made the music, which created the scene that changed youth culture worldwide. I just kept falling up hill”…

Barrie talks regarding his musical partner Gareth Tasker: “Gareth is a major part of the sound, he plays all the instrumentation on every track; which he also co-writes. Gareth is the unsung hero of the Acid Jazz scene. We have been working together since 1987 – a fuckin’ musical genius”…

What's interesting about their music is that we're all busy trying to make stuff that sounds old, but they’ve taken the classic sound and done something new with it. It sounds very fresh. I like the hybrid of it all (Snowboy).
