Richard Barone’s Sorrows & Promises: Greenwich Village In The 1960s casts new light on the songs that sprang from the singer-songwriters in and around Greenwich Village during that pivotal decade. While Top-40 hit songs were being churned out uptown in the Brill Building and at 1650 Broadway, the downtown writers were weaving folk, blues, R&B and rock into songs that five decades later still sound fresh and inventive. Richard’s choices cover a broad range of writers, from Buddy Holly, who was living and demoing songs in his Greenwich Village apartment just before he died, to up-and-comers like Paul Simon, John Sebastian (of the Lovin’ Spoonful) and James Taylor (of The Flying Machine), to the artists redefining folk music -- Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Tim Hardin, Fred Neil -- for a new generation. Sorrows and Promises revisits and re-imagines these songs that were a vital contribution to the American Songbook, treating them like the modern standards they are. Richard Barone is uniquely qualified to reinterpret these ‘60s classics; throughout his career, first with The Bongos and then as a solo artist, his work has shown the influence of the pop, rock and folk singer-songwriters who lived and worked in the Village neighborhood where Richard has lived since the mid-1980s. The album features an all-star line-up of guest musicians and vocalists including John Sebastian, Dion, Allison Moorer, Nellie McKay, David Amram, Jenni Muldaur, and The Kennedys. The album was produced by Steve Addabbo, who has a strong creative connection to the music being revisited on the project. Among his many credits as a producer, engineer and musician are albums by Bob Dylan, Suzanne Vega, Jeff Buckley, and Eric Andersen. Also contributing to the album was Mitchell Cohen, a long-time music writer and A&R executive (Arista, Columbia and Verve) who suggested the concept to Richard and worked with him on selecting the material.Ship To Shore PhonoCo's special edition vinyl release will feature a jam-packed download card containing: a high-quality 320kb MP3 version of the album, alternate acoustic arrangements of "Close The Door Lightly When You Go" and "Sunday Morning," Mitchell Cohen's essay "Sorrows and Promises and Songs of Freedom," the official "Bleecker Street" music video, exclusive behind-the-scenes photographs, complete album credits, the Pledge Music "Sorrows & Promises" album video preview, and the "Freewheelin' Sorrows & Promises" Podcast parts 1 & 2 featuring a lively discussion about Greenwich Village in the 1960s by Richard Barone and Mitchell Cohen.

„The Holy Mackerel“ (Reprise 1-6311) is one of the most underrated albums of the Sixties. Fronted by then-up-and-coming Paul Williams and produced by Richard Perry (two personalities who would soon define the musical tones of the Seventies), Perry tapped Williams to record his own album after featuring Williams' "Fill Your Heart" (Co-written with Biff Rose) on the flip-side of Tiny Tim's hit "Tip-Toe Thru' The Tulips With Me." Part music album and part like the soundtrack to a lost sub-culture movie, The Holy Mackerel traverses the spectrum of Sixties-synonymous musical sounds; psych-rock to sunshine pop to folk rock to country rock to AM pop - it's all here.Standouts include the organ-driven, haunting "Scorpio Red," the Chicago-esque "Bitter Honey" (written by Williams and Roger Nichols prior to their smash-hits "Rainy Days and Mondays" and "We've Only Just Begun") and an early, folk version of "The Lady Is Waiting" (Williams re-recorded the song on his 1972 album Life Goes On).The group's original line up was as eclectic as the album's song selection: joining Paul Williams was his brother Mentor Williams (who would go on to author Dobie Gray's hit "Drift Away"), original Jefferson Airplane bassist Bob Harvey (who contributed "Wildflowers" to the album), guitarist George Hiller (who later played on Williams' 1970 solo-debut Someday Man), flautist Cynthia Fitzpatrick, and former Turtles drummer Don Murray. Though the group's sound may have become more refined if pop music history had been blessed with a follow up Holy Mackerel album, liner notes contributor Richard Barone notes that Williams' sound is "the driving force [on this album]...that would soon break him through the top of the charts."This official reissue was mastered from the original 2-track tapes The „Bitter Honey" translucent gold vinyl edition also features brand-new liner notes from the Someday Man himself Paul Williams plus additional notes from legendary producer and Bongos frontman Richard Barone.

The Ship to Shore Phonograph Company, One Way Static Records & Light In The Attic are proud to announce the release of the 'MANOS' Original Soundtrack and finally give this classic unreleased soundtrack a proper release! Welcome to the original soundtrack to Hal P. Warren's Manos: The Hands of Fate. While the film is often lambasted for being one of the worst of all time, the music by Robert Smith Jr. and Russ Huddleston is a decidedly offbeat and strangely compelling affair. Utilizing sparse, jazzy arrangements to act as counterpoint to the nearly incomprehensible happenings on screen, the music contributes heavily to the films surrealistic and nightmarish tone. Remastered from a recently discovered 35mm magnetic soundtrack, this album combines the music and dialog to the film to create the feeling on "a truly demented stream-of-consciousness radio play." (Scott Johannsson, The Damn Fine Podcast). In early 2015, the original 35mm soundtrack negative to MANOS: The Hands of Fate was discovered, giving fans a better look into the bizarre world of the film. After a restoration by Steve Addabbo at Shelter Island Sound in New York City, sonic imperfections still apply, but definite audio improvements have been made, including a drastic decrease in hiss and distortion. Ship to Shore PhonoCo. believes that this is the definitive audio edition of MANOS: The Hands of Fate.
