18,99 €*
Release:2018 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
The Lost follows and expands on Otto A Totland's intimate debut solo piano album Pinô from 2014. Once again several days were spent in Nils Frahm's legendary Durton studio to lay down both composed and improvised pieces of quiet beauty. While mostly residing in a small Norwegian coastal town, Otto has been trying to escape the constant movement towards fast paced, polluted lives, where it seems like sounds and impressions never stop.

Spheres
LP | 2018 | EU | Original (Sonic Pieces)
28,99 €*
Release:2018 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Spheres is not only Tatu Rönkkö´s debut album, but it´s also one of the most unusual entries in the Sonic Pieces catalogue so far. As the de-facto reason for Efterklang starting off their new band Liima, Tatu is one of the most diverse and intriguing percussionists working today. Rönkkö appeared out of nowhere sometime around 2010, performing intense improvised concerts in home-kitchens around Berlin and abroad, using the room and everything in it as his instrument. On Spheres, which includes almost only self-made instruments from everyday objects, he´s taken this idea to the next level. The kitchen and the improvisations around it have been concentrated down to 6 standalone pieces of music, produced in incredible detail. The sound hovers in the darklands between tribal experimentations, 90ies jungle ambient textures and electro-acoustic endeavours. Pieces like Then remind of a more focused Aphex Twin performing with Konono No1 in the Finnish woods. While the title track Spheres even links the sound all the way back to early Photek with it´s reduced cinematic textures and explosive repetitive beats. All of this says rather little about the actual album as it feels completely its own. Especially the incredible centrepiece Tekoäly featuring Islaja on vocals sounds like nothing else. Rönkkö is a true visionist who manages to balance his mass of sound sources in an expert fashion. Spheres is truly an otherwordly listen.

Release:2013 / EU – Reissue

Following the intimate but epic Vora from 2013, Rauelsson is back and in grand form with the utterly captivating Mirall, his second full-length album for Sonic Pieces. The new record continues the lush landscapes of earlier times while moving his sound into a feast of organic beats and textural dynamism. Expect to hear organs, synths, tape-loops, clarinet, strings, piano and percussion, just to name a few key sounds present on this record, all compiled and produced with a passionate taste for acoustic experimentation.

Release:2013 / EU – Reissue
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Rauelsson is probably best known for intimate guitar and vocal based songs with releases on Hush and even an appearance on the early sonic pieces album Portland Stories compiled by Heather Woods Broderick. With this in mind, Vora comes as a surprise in a grandeur way with its mixture of everything from piano solos, orchestrated classical music, synth buildups and even an shoegaze inspired organ piece sounding like Windy & Carl performing in an empty hallway. Like a coastal dream impossible to differentiate summer for winter, Vora feels like cold winds slowly warming up. . Vora is a sure win for fans of Deaf Center´s Pale Ravine, Nils Frahm´s more melancholic moments or film musicians such as Philip Glass and Clint Mansell.

Raúl Pastor Medall (Rauelsson) and Erik K Skodvin (Svarte Greiner & 1/2 of Deaf Center) were paired together to work on the accompanying music after the director, Birgitte Stærmose wanted to try a new direction.

Next to the entire All is an astonishing work by Danish experimental sound quartet We like We, consisting of Katrine Grarup Elbo (violin), Josefine Opsahl (cello), Sara Nigard Rosendal (percussion) and Katinka Fogh Vindelev (voice). Although classically trained, all four share a desire for exploring, experimenting and shaping a sound of their own, something which is truly present on this album.

Influenced by digital surveillance technologies, Guffond examines data generated from facial recognition systems & global monitoring networks & translates their algorithms into auditory shapes. She draws sonic portraits that manage to capture what normally eludes human perception, turning peripheral data into deeply engaging compositions. A duo can be the most magical of things, and it seems like the meeting of minds between Morr Music veteran F.S.Blumm and contemporary classical darling Nils Frahm was a match made in heaven. The ease in which they perform together is the first noticeable thing on ‘Music for wobbling Music versus gravity’ – there is a discernable weightlessness to their sound as they circle around each other, moving and meeting, touching with their musical fingertips.

Swifter, The - Wall Sailor
Swifter, The
Wall Sailor
LP | 2016 | EU | Original (Sonic Pieces)
26,99 €*
Release:2016 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
It is a rare treat to come across a record that imparts music as spacious as Wall Sailor. The album's ability to capture the listener with a mixture of acoustic instruments, field recordings and digital processing, with constant movement and relentless tension, is nothing but astonishing. Just like an actual murmuration in the sky, the trio's music refuses to keep steady and allows us to perceive its structures and formations from afar. These pieces could go everywhere; and yet they remain as pleasant as they are fascinating and never fail to impress. The Swifter's compositions breath an urgency for expression that never gives in to their controlled and skilled performance. This unusual assembly proves to be a liberating experience in the hands of its three protagonists. Simon James Phillips' vivid piano playing with Andrea Belfi's precise percussion and drum patterns make the perfect companions for BJ Nilsen's electronics, welding together a driving energy. Immersing oneself in the resulting recording feels like watching birds being set free from a cage to relish a newly won space for spreading their wings. Listening closely, you can imagine following the beating of wings, as if these tracks have been waiting to be released to cherish their freedom.Vinyl comes in a reversed cardboard jacket, printed in- and outside with Full Tone Colours, Lasercut-Artwork and Printed Inner Sleeve, ltd. to 500 copies.
