The mighty Mystic Bill, a true US House legend though somehow criminally underrated. Those who know, know. His records have long had a mythical status among the diggers, with DJ's who delve that little bit deeper weaving his sounds into their sets. Having released on numerous labels including Relief, Trax, Classic and more Bill has cemented his rep as an artist that has his own vibe and sound. Bill's music exists in that space where the late night meets the earliest morning, sweaty, dark dance-floors and stripped back, jacking tracks are the order of the day... proper, real deal house music. 'Mystic Files' covers the period of 1989 - 1995 and showcases some of Bill's various styles, originally released on TRAX in 1995 this timely reissue shines a light on an artists who definitely deserves more props! This release has long been a tough one to catch with second hand copies sometimes fetching healthy prices online and collectors clamouring to harness some of Bill's magic... This will be right up your alley if you're a fan of Ron Hardy, Relief / Cajual, Steve Poindexter, Armando and everything in between! Sleeping not advised!

Master C & J (Carl Bias & Jesse Jones) along with vocalist Liz Torres are counted among the most influencial artists to rise out of the mid/late Eighties Chicago House Music scene. Known for their singularly darkly sensuous and skeletal sound, their tracks captured and defined the late night, underground dancefloor experience; rhythm, sweat, sex.Originally released in 1987, "Face It" is a deep moody Chicago house all time classic. Containing all 3 original mixes, "Face It" has been re released and re mastered for 2015 on conjunction with Trax Records.

The second of two brilliant EPs produced by Merweyn Saunder and Eric Lewis. Although this was released under a different name, they were actually all done in the set of sessions that also gave us the previous release, The Virgo Four EP. As far as the duo were concerned M.E. was their name and Virgo was imposed on them by someone at Trax. The two EPs were later conjoined and released as an album in the UK Radikal under the name Virgo. It was re released in 2010 by Rush Hour.

Every home should have this record from the 2 of the originators of deep House! Virgo 4 were kicking out the most melodic, fathoms deep, complex emotional machine music before anyone else (them & Larry obviously!) had caught up with them & the "Do You Know Who Are?" EP from 1989 is as flawless as it gets, often imitated over the years but never, ever bettered! Every single track on this slab of wax is a classic! Virgo manage to reach right inside & take us somewhere on every cut while maintaining an otherworldly sense of melody & rhythm, some of the playing on this record is incredible & so accomplished, "In A Vision" for example still sounds like it's beaming right at us from the future while "Take Me Higher" carries it's stately, Reggae-like vibe along smoothly while retaining enough bounce to keep the floor locked in. Basically, "Do You Know Who Are?" is an almost perfect record. You need it. It's the truth. Fully re-mastered, re-pressed & re-released for 2015 in it's original format with the permission & participation of all rights holders with all original Trax label artwork intact.

The legendary Lidell Townsell on the legendary TRAX label - What's not to like?'Get the hole' might sound like a fairly dubious title for an EP, but it works within the realms of Chicago house!Released in the golden year of '88, this EP contains nothing but vintage midwest ACID grooves! You could argue that the XXX rated message behind lead cut 'get the hole' is an early precursor of what would come out of the Chi via Dance Mania and other associated labels and artists in latter years. Rumour has it the track had an impact on the super underground B-more club scene too unsurprisingly! If you like your house music rough, ready & raw then this is for you! Warehouse sounds, box jams, it's all here!Remastered in conjunction with Trax Records, fully legit, now is the time to revisit a cornerstone of classic Chicago House music, often imitated, never bettered!

Now, if there was ever a record title that could make you look twice it's gotta be this seminal slab of jacking Chicago mayhem from Maurice Joshua & "Hot hands" Hula. Released in the golden year of 1988 on the legendary Trax label which was already in full flight and on a major roll at the time. It could have been easy to overlook "I gotta big dick" because of it's (mildly) humorous, tongue in cheek title, but don't be fooled, this is one sleek, charged acid weapon, an early blueprint for the incoming ghetto house scene out of the Chi perhaps? If you're somewhat prudish or easily offended by the lyrical content the guys were kind enough to include an instrumental version that jacks in all the right places! Also included on this EP is the stone cold classic "This is acid" which was co-produced by Lidell Townsell that became an acid house anthem all the way from Illinois to Ilford. A true school Chicago jam indeed! Finishing out the EP is the almost apocalyptic acid of "Feel The Mood" that features a rap from Kool Rock Steady, the combination of twisting 303's, church-like organs and synths and Kool's razor sharp rhymes make for a pretty heavy concoction, use this one wisely - damage will occur on the dance-floor! Remastered in conjunction with Trax Records, fully legit, now is the time to revisit a cornerstone of classic Chicago House music, often imitated, never bettered!

Volume 2 in Trax new re issue series "Chicago Trax", delves deeper into the archives to unearth more 'lost tracks' from the legendary Chicago house label.Kicking off with "Dum Dum - Part 2" by Fresh (TX115 - 1986), following on from Part 1 which came out on Larry Sherman's Precision (named after his pressing plant) in 1984, and included a prototype version of what would become "Real Love" by Jesse's Gang. Its follow up, Part Two, produced by Jesse Saunders was just as basic consisting of bass, drums and the occasional squelch or stab.Next up... Yes its him again - Farley Jackmaster Funk with "Give Your Self To Me" (TX116 - 1986). Featuring uncredited vocal performances from both Ricky Dillard and Kevin Irving, this is almost symphonic in comparison with some of Farley's previous foray's into the studio, possibly aided by the fact he utilised a producer, Danny Wilson, to finesse his efforts. On the B side we start with Willie Wonka's "What Is House (TX122 - 1986). Dwayne Grant's name seems to have slipped off the radar, but this wasn't even his first release, having already recorded under the name Grant for Sherman's Precision the year prior to this. Unusually for some, "What Is House?" is Linn drum-heavy and from memory, I believe this vocal comes from the producer reading an early piece written about Chicago house. Yet another underrated tune from the vaults. Finally we have Radio Fashion "What You Deserve" (TX123 - 1987). An anomaly in the Trax catalogue, Radio Fashion would seem more at home an obscure Belgian label or even on Wax Trax! Although they did contribute to other house releases (like "The Jackin' National Anthem" on Hot Mix 5), vocalist Jim Romano turned up on a Die Warzau album in the early 90's doing background vocals.

The hip house boom was in full effect, thanks to Tyree Cooper's efforts, and Trax responded with this double-header. 'Power Move' is straight up hip hop, but it's the flip, producer by Trax regular Lidell Townsell, 'I'll Make You Dance' that does the business here. Kool Rock Steady, also known as Edward Rudolph, had serious credentials for an MC, being cousin of one Africa Bambaataa. This release is also notable for yet another misspelling of Lidell Townsell's Christian name (Lydell, since you ask).

One of the early big records in the UK that preceded the acid house mania that followed in 1988 and Mr. Lee's first in a string of releases on Trax. Adonis recalls bumping into Mr. Lee in the street: "What's up with you, Adonis?" and I said, "Oh man, I got a record out. I'm doin' house music and makin' money at it." The next time I saw him, he was sayin', "Hey man, I got a record out too!" 'I Can't Forget' features a more spoken word delivery in comparison to his later productions where he'd retooled and become a rapper (of sorts).

The first release on Trax naturally came from the Jesse Saunders stable. It was an agreement between pressing plant owner Sheerman and Saunders and Vince Lawrence that led to the formation of the label. Early pressings even had a Jes Say catalogue number etched in them, through subsequent editions bear the Trax cat. no. "Wanna Dance", unusually for Trax is not really house at all, bearing far more similarities with the experimental productions of On-U-Sound and the Doug Wimbish/Skip McDonald crew. Says Vince "This is built around the fact that we found out that could call the Linn drum people and order a chip and that said somethin' - we got our first sampler. When we learned that you could say shit and play it like an instrument that was a big deal then." Repressed & remastered for 2015 & featuring all original label artwork, with permission from Trax records "Wanna Dance?" is now available again to be rediscovered.

"Ride The Rhythm" came out on Trax in 1986, making it one of the "first wave" House records to land & make a massive impression here in the UK & in Europe. Marshall Jefferson's fingerprints are all over this bad boy, his massive piano riffs, non-stop bass-lines, the pounding drums, everything about this record is just HUGE! He had an incredible knack for making accessible, club tracks with cross over appeal that the underground heads clamored to get hold of at the same time. Chaotic, acidic jack tracks are the order of the day here, Dancer aka Sidney Winters, dropped this obscure bomb on Trax in the peak year of 1987. Both sides are mixed by the late, great Frankie Knuckles and have all the trademarks of his touch; tough drum machines, Italo inspired melodies and thundering bass-lines. These monster tracks sound absolutely massive and will surely do damage when dropped today. "Am A Dog" is the A-side and is the more melodic of the two cuts, featuring triggered dog-like vocal stabs, epic, soaring synths and a repeated voice floating in and out of the mix, while on the B-side the descriptively titled "Boom Boom" does exactly that, a descending, aggressive acid line drives the track with some reverbed-out drums and a disjointed female voice repeating "Boom boom goes my heart", deep, dark and heavy! Both tracks have been re-mastered and re-pressed for the very first time since their original release in 1987 in conjunction with Trax Records, and have been made available again with original label artwork. Essential!

"Love Can't Turn Around" is a Chicago House ANTHEM! A true classic of the genre. Universally recognized and loved, it made history as the very first House record to reach the UK singles charts in 1986 and continues to find new fans today. Inspired heavily by Isaac Hayes' underground Disco smash "I Can't Turn Around", a record that was very big in various Chicago clubs getting plays from DJ's like Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles and more. With "Love Can't Turn Around" Farley and Jesse re-appropriated Hayes' Disco vibe and updated it with drum machines, synths and of course, Mr.Darryl Pandy's unique vocal performance centering around the desperation of a lover who has been wronged. A truly influential track that opened the doors for many producers and DJ's in the decades to follow. Here, for the first time, the definitive mixes of this all time classic record are available in one place.
