Genre:Electronic / Dance
Codek is the brainchild of Jean-Marie Salaun who grew up in Paris influenced by the folklore of the inner city. In 1978 he joined art rock group SpionS alongside Gregory Davidow and recorded two singles. Diving into the Paris post punk scene he met Claude Arto and designed the artwork for Claude’s single on Celluloid “Kwai Systeme / Betty Boop.” Robin Scott (M “Pop Music”) had produced the SpionS first single and wanted to collaborate further. With Claude, Jean-Marie wrote “Me Me Me”, intended for a choir, for M. Then SpionS split and Robin was off to Switzerland to record an album to follow-up his hit single. That left Jean-Marie alone in London, where he began working as Codek, a play on the brand name Kodak The “Me Me Me” single was released by MCA Records in 1980. Back in Paris, now with some studio experience, Celluloid Records hired Jean-Marie to produce records for Artefact and Les Orphelins. Over the next 2 years he began working on ideas for the next Codek single “Closer / “Tam Tam” “Closer” started its life as an electric baseline played by Jean-Marie. Claude Arto sequenced the floating synthesizers. Laurent Grangier and Frédéric Lapierre of reggae band Immigration Act played the horns. The lyrics “Hard to say. Easy to do. We don’t need to say what we do” were a statement on creation as narration expressed Jean-Marie’s ennui, “I’m tired with it.” “Tam Tam” was inspired by Burundi drummers playing on the plaza in front of Beaubourg where the song was recorded. Jean-Marie enlisted one of the drummers from the circle, Georges Atta Dikalo, to lay down percussion for the song. The female singers were from the French Caribbean and added falsetto tribal chants. JM was part of the the African night scene in Paris, remixing Xalam’s “Kanu” and Touré Kunda’s “Salaly Muhamed.” Claude achieved complex rhythmic patterns using a modular synthesizer and heavy processing. Jean-Marie recorded himself beating his chest for the thump noises. The recording of “Tam Tam” and “Closer” spanned over two years. They started on 16-track in Studio d’Auteuil, where JM blew the woofers, before resuming in Studio Centre Georges Pompidou with an added 8-track recorder. Jean-Marie was producing other bands, and a lot of this was recorded on “borrowed” studio time. The single was released in 1981 on West African Music, a tiny label from the Ivory Coast, and was re-released a year later by Island Records in the UK (where the B-side was re-named “Tim Toum”). Both tracks were staples in the DJ sets of Beppe Loda and Daniele Baldelli, finding a spiritual home in the Cosmic scene of Italy. Both songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The jacket is an exact replica of the 1981 edition with artwork by Angela Boy, inspired by primitive electronics and African paintings. Each copy includes an doubles-sided insert with photos and liner notes by Jean-Marie Salaun.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
When Steve Lawler first sent us "Crazy Dream," he told us that he had made the record "specifically with Turbo in mind," thus sending us on a quasi-lucid journey down a rabbit hole of self-discovery from which we have only recently emerged. Most labels would simply talk up a nuts-to-the-wall floor-filler with a killer "White Horse" bassline from an acid house legend and be done with it, but the fact remains that if we forgo an opportunity to learn more about ourselves as dance music imprint, we are doing our fans a disservice whether they could possibly be expected to realize it or not. We hired a board-licensed Forensic Poet to parse the track’s lyrical references to nothing being "quite as it seems," "feeling naked and confused," and rising above "the push and shove." What was he trying to tell us? The poet assured us that all it meant was that Lawler admires Turbo and thought the track would be a good fit, and that we should put our clothes back on, wipe the confused looks from our faces, and stop pushing and shoving one another because everything was exactly as it seemed. We paid him his $25 and did as we were told. For the remixes, we took a track made especially for us and enlisted a diverse cast of Turbo All-Stars to spin it into a release for everyone, a proprietary practice we call "Human Alchemy: The Future of Generosity™." Finland’s Jori Hulkkonen, Belgium’s Charlotte de Witte, and Argentina’s DJs Pareja trace a beautiful global triangle for lovers of acid bangers, stripped-down techno, and tripped-out weirdness, respectively. At Turbo, giving party people what they need is more than just a crazy dream. It’s a crazy reality.

Fouk are finally back on Heist after their great ‘Kill Frenzy’ EP in 2014 and have taken Mount Liberation Unlimited along for a remix. We’ve been waiting patiently for new material, challenging the guys to take the signature ‘Fouk’ sound to the next level. Fouk’s brilliance has been obvious on recent work for their own label Outplay and Razor ‘n Tape, as well as their respective solo projects. We’ve kept a close connection, teaming up whenever possible for Heist showcases, with highlights in Amsterdam’s “Claire” and Paris’ “Concrete". Seeing their work and enthusiasm made it abundantly clear that it would only be a matter of time before they’d show us what the next step would look -or better yet- sound like. Anticipation ran high but boy, do Fouk deliver. The excellent ‘With lasers’ EP still very much portrays their own style of loose, live percussion and many layers of funk, but they’ve expanded their vision and even toughened up a bit. Their new taste for grit and an interest in the heavier side of funk is probably most evident on the opener ‘F3000′, where a thunderous arpeggio is supported by distorted drums and lush cosmic synth stabs. Title track ‘With lasers’ is more of a classic Fouk track, combining a lovely walking disco bassline and their signature drum programming with… erm… lasers. Lots of them. The B side ‘See you on the other side’ sets a different pace, carefully blending guitar licks, rhodesy chords and vocal chops into a lovely groove that feels just as carefree and improvised as it feels exciting. Swedish synth nerds “Mount Liberation Unlimited” ran with it and transformed it into a dreamy -Pepe Bradock goes balearic- track where airy echoed guitars take turns with some equally dreamy and evocative pads.

This upfront four-track release is a selection of dance floor ready disco and house and sits boldly apart from a lot of other music within these genres. DJ support so far from Dan Shake and Titeknots amongst others. Taking inspiration from the more exotic corners of the musical spectrum the EP leads with the upbeat Make Heaven and its conga rhythms, vocal hooks and electronic patterns. CMI is slower and moves further into the groove whilst Lacuna is the EP's funkiest cut, featuring a killer bass hook, percussion, guitar chops, claps and more vocals to carry it along. Closing with a second four to the four track Diametric leads with an elastic, acoustic bassline, synth pads and you've guessed it: more vocal hooks.

For our next release we welcome back two of Hamburg’s finest and most recent international exports: Adana Twins. Last seen on our latest Various Artists compilation, the duo returns with three absolutely stunning tracks of low slung, infectious cuts blurring the lines between House and Techno with an undeniable brush stroke of character the two are quickly becoming synonymous for. ‘Flower Of Cane’ kicks things off in an almost sinister fashion with massive low end bursts and a fever inducing, single note that never stops rising culminating in a climactic crescendo of dance floor euphoria while ‘Ortus’ takes a much more ‘up-beat’ approach with dreamy arpeggios and shimmering atmospherics laid over a pulsing bassline resulting in a gorgeous number ideal for a number of memorable moments. Wrapping up the originals is the guaranteed summer anthem: ‘Relentless fest. Jeppe Kjellberg’ where sultry vocals and lush aural artifacts launch sensations to uncharted new heights. Not done yet, we asked none other than the brilliant Andre Lodemann to create his revision of ‘Relentless feat. Jeep Kjellberg’ and he, as always, delivered big time. With not only one but two solid reworks of the original Lodemann’s remixes need no description other than there is a vocal and a dub version to satisfy any DJ’s sensibility. We hope you enjoy.

B1, This Time, sees a collaboration with label mate and overall luminary, Darand Land, combining the dancefloor drive of the duos sound with the intricate melodies synonymous with Land’s inimitable sound. Closing off the EP, ‚Surface Prelude’, sees a raw, but deep warehouse atmosphere reminiscent of early 90s house, but with an indelible Frank & Tony touch.

3 Teens Kill 4 was born in the summer of 1980 in the East Village of New York City. They took their name from a New York Post headline. The group consisted of Doug Bressler, Brian Butterick, Julie Hair, Jesse Hultberg, David Wojnarowicz. There was a conscious decision not to have a front person or lead singer. David made cassette tapes with voices and sounds that he held up close to a microphone, fast-forwarding and rewinding. Julie tried different rhythms on a Korg rhythm machine. Brian played a Casio drum machine and Jesse was on bass. Doug joined the group in time to make the debut album. He was a music lover who understood how to avoid covering over the band’s non-musicality.Their debut 7-song mini-album “No Motive” was recorded in Fall 1982 and self-released in 1983. Utilizing rhythm boxes, tapes of news reports, odd percussion tools, snatches of song, they chanted political narrative ideas about the modern mess at the time. The album is an amalgam of urban life, a twisted, anti-rhetorical approach to social issues. Songs weave together to create an intelligent, jarring sound. Razor sharp guitar licks and hauntingly ominous bass lines create a tense, oblique abstraction of pain and chaos. For this reissue we’ve added 3 previously unreleased bonus tracks. Doug says, “These songs are very deliberately an experiment in Postmodernism. Sound bytes were stolen from the airwaves and recorded onto bargain cassette tapes. We were stripping the structure of the popular song to the bone. A sort of sonic Duchamp. And throughout it all, runs a childlike sense of play: the judicious use of toys, the schoolyard chants. All of this was happening during the dark and soul-numbing Age of Reagan, with the AIDS crisis looming on the horizon.” All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The jacket features a replica of the original front cover with a black and white photo by Seiji Kakizaki and updated back cover featuring a never before seen collage by David Wojnarowicz. Each copy includes a 12-page booklet with liner notes from each band member, photos, lyrics and press clippings. We’ve also printed a special 12”x24” fold out diptych painting by David Wojnarowicz whom this reissue is dedicated to. “We were representative of our time and place. East village, New York City, 1980s. All-night, after-hour busboy jobs in trendy nightclubs, early morning breakfast at Veselka’s diner. Drugs and no-drugs. Gay and not-gay. New York.” - Jesse Hultberg

The three tracks build on the same set of sound sources and offer three different views at their glowing core. Elastic basslines pierce through a bed of sweet and warm chords, surrounded by sizzling noise percussion. Definitely on the more introspective side, the three cuts offer a special emotional depth while maintaining a bit more than just enough oomph to get the action going. Late night and early morning are the possible settings. It’s a declaration of tender love that comes with a gentle push towards the closest darkroom.

Figure is excited to present the first outing of what might soon prove to be one of techno’s most promising collaborations. While Seatoc Mass’ two pristinely crafted EPs have already left their mark on the label, Matrixxman has been turning heads across the scenes with his exceptionally prolific track record. Drawing upon common thoughts on futuristic themes and their respective strengths as producers from different continents, their joint effort clearly conveys one distinct approach, yet unites the seemingly opposite. Regardless of being no-nonsense dancefloor-weapons, the four tracks still brim with detail, their vibrant elements communicating playfully. On their shared EP these artists have struck a rare balance. They delicately hover between the spacious and the claustrophobic, the modern and the classic, the stern and the elated - while never losing focus of their mutual mission.

Perc (aka London based Ali Wells) returns with 'Bitter Music', his third album following 'Wicker & Steel' (2011) and 'The Power And The Glory' (2014). As before the album will see a release on his own Perc Trax imprint, giving Perc the complete creative control needed to realise his vision of what should be a milestone release for both himself and Perc Trax.Originally a very inward looking album when work started on it in March 2016 the extensive political change happening in both the UK and around the world forced the album to widen its perspective. By the time the album was finished in December, it was clear that the sentiment of tracks such as 'Look What Your Love Has Done To Me' was as equally applicable to the micro-politics of person relationships as it was to concerns for the future of a country in a state of flux.Pre-production for the album begun at Eve Studios, a residential studio just outside of Manchester, UK which specialises in collecting and restoring equipment salvaged from the sadly defunct BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The palette of sounds created during these sessions lends the album the sound of early electro-acoustic experimentation, especially evident on tracks such as 'Wax Apple'. Live instrumentation also plays a larger role on this album than on any previous Perc releases with Wells playing piano on many tracks and Ian East's flute playing featuring on 'Chatter'. The album also features a number of vocal collaborations including one with Gazelle Twin. Post-production, mixing and arranging was done at Perc's North London studio before the album was mastered by Perc Trax's regular mastering engineer Matt Colton.Sonically the album takes in everything from strung out vocal treatments to the type of warehouse rabble rousers Perc has made his own since his very first releases. More dance floor focussed than his previous albums yet pulling from a wider range of sounds 'Bitter Music' shows a development and maturing of Wells' music that could not have been foreseen just a few years ago.Delicately balancing the personal and the political, 'Bitter Music' stands apart from most recent techno albums as it continually pushes outwards rather than concerning itself with the microscopic refinement of already established sounds. It is an album unafraid to take chances from an artist continually looking for his next step forwards.

Ronnie Scott's resident Cuban singer Rene Alvarez delivers the impassioned vocals, followed by the main man Claudio Passavanti's heated Montuno piano riffs, which combine seamlessly to create a blissful, dance-floor experience. Kassett aka Gavin Vanælst isn’t about genres, but about emotions when it comes to his music. However, asking him what he would call the sound he makes, his simple answer is: „Rave Ambient“. The ‘All I Feel 1 Million EP‘ is a record full of diversity. It reaches from emotional and dreamy, arp-based ambient tracks with rave and trance references, to broken beats, weird synth solos, up to a rough but melodious techno tune. Finally the cherry on top of this special EP, is a remix by Lobster Theremin regular Imre Kiss. He delivered a dark and dubby version of the A2, that sounds like it was recorded underwater.

Oxia's classic ‘Domino' gets reworked for it's ten year anniversary - in 2 vinyl parts. A decade after initially seeing the light, Oxia's now classic ‘Domino' get's reworked to celebrate it's anniversary. The new release features a new cut by Oxia himself as well as several remixes by none other than Frankey & Sandrino, Robag Wruhme and Matador. The EP will be released through Agoria's newly found record label Sapiens on February 24th. Ten years ago the track made waves in the international dance music circuit, striking up chords with techno, trance and house DJs alike to quickly become an all-time classic. Having never expected the track to reach the status that it his, it's a very dear project to Oxia and he needed quite some persuading to give in and let Agoria and his team create something that was worthy of the original. The set of tracks are the first officially commissioned remixes by Oxia ever. “Finding remixers took some time, the amazing Frankey & Sandrino who's track ‘Acamar' is my absolute favourite of 2015, Matador that just launched his Rukus label as well is the multi-talented ex label mate at Kompakt Robag Wruhme. They are all incredibly gifted and fortunately patient enough to wait for this EP”

Dark Entries is proud to present all four mixes of “Transdance” by Night Moves as a tribute dedicated to the lives lost in the Oakland Ghost Ship fire on December 2, 2016. Night Moves was the brainchild of Michael Guihen, from Pimlico, south London. Inspired by seeing Tubeway Army perform on Top of the Pops in 1979 he placed an ad to form a synth-based band in the NME. In November 1980 he was introduced to Denis Haines, formerly Gary Numan’s keyboardist on the ‘Telekon’ album. Michael played Denis some demo tracks and one track, “Transdance” stood out. Denis and Michael worked closely together and they wrote a number of backing tracks. One of these was the farewell song from Gary Numan to his band Tubeway Army, "Love Needs No Disguise”. In return for this backing track Denis gave Michael studio time to develop "Transdance". The first version of "Transdance" was recorded in late Spring 1981 at Ridge Farm Studio in Surrey and within the week Michael had a recording deal with GC Recordings. This mix of "Transdance" was pressed onto a white label GC1 and was sent to clubs around Britain and Europe. In Summer 1981 he met John Davis aka John Darc also part West London’s New Romantic scene. They recorded the second mix of "Transdance" at Matrix Studios in London early 1982 and John added the new bass line. This was titled “U.K. Disco Mix” and released by GC Records. On this mix the backing vocals were sung by Eve Goddard, Adam Ant's ex-wife. In March 1983 Michael and John turned to New York's budding Electro & Hip Hop scenes to have Jay Burnett remix the “New York Disco Mix”. Back in London, the duo disappeared into the cutting rooms at Utopia studios with Francis Usmar and emerged with the final dub edit “Robot Rock”. All three later mixes were programmed with a Roland TR-808, some live drums, and one homemade handclap machine. "Transdance" was embraced by Chicago’s WBMX, Hot Mix 5 and Ron Hardy as well in New York at Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage and Tony Humphries’ Club Zanzibar in New Jersey. Considered a blueprint song that connects the dots from UK Synthpop to Italo Disco, Chicago House and Detroit Techno. All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Housed in the original jacket featuring a black and white photograph of two mannequins dancing set against a melon hue. Each copy includes a 2-sided 11” square insert with lyrics and drawings of all 36 victims of the Oakland Ghost Ship fire. Each copy also included a 6 page press kit with liner notes, clippings and photographs from the band’s archive. 100% of all profits will be donated to the Oakland Fire Immediate Relief Fund.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Toy Tonics’ MUSHROOM HOUSE series brings together different shades of afro-weirdo-psychedelic vibes in dance music. All tracks have been made exclusively for Toy Tonics. The musical range is wide: The third EP goes from Arabic guitars to Nubian chants and looots of percussions. The bass drum is four-on-the-floor, but switches from midtempo (Kiwi: We are here) to classic New York LoFi -Disco grooves (Ponty Mython). The other 2 tracks on the EP feature an emptier vibe: Less toms - more Drum machines. More Techno. Red Axes deliever probably one of their weirdest works. Their Munk rework is pure craziness. The melodies come from another space. The last track on the EP is made by old Toy Tonics friends from Milano: The Barking Dogs. They teamed up with Tom Trago in the basement studio of the great record store they run in Milan: Serendeepity Records. They are known for selling obscure, but classy music for dance floors and that’s what they do when the make music on their own. Like on “Your High": An obscure groove meets a sloppy bassline and stoned vocals.

The Antinote guys have always been keen on introducing new names to you and this addition to the label’s catalogue makes no exception to the rule: they are pleased to present Sfarot, the debut EP from Alek Lee, a musician currently living in Tel-Aviv..The geographic origin of the artists on the Parisian imprint has never been felt as much as on Alek Lee’s debut 12”. In a very “fourth world” manner, Alek Lee brings together middle-eastern influences in his music with ease and without ever having it sounding cliché: on Harabait and Sfarot (and its dub version), his friends and him play the violin, the bass clarinet and the accordion in a way which reminds of Klezmer music, putting the three songs on the EP in line with both his musical education and his cultural background. This seems strikingly true when taking into account the process Alek Lee went through to record the tittle-track: the original material used in Sfarot comes from a recording Lee did a few years, and on which were recorded traditional songs Israeli children used to learn at school, performed by a choir of very young kids. Both conceptually and musically hypnotizing, Sfarot and its dub version take the listener on a slightly psychedelic tripas the haunted voices from the kids loose themselves in long reverbs and are backed by a wide range of instruments played by the Israeli musician including an electric organ, percussions, etc.And if you are still in need of more dubby excursions, the closing track is the one for you.

The Kurl project started in the summer of 2014 where the primary concept was to sonically encompass the various influences of a twenty-year musical journey. The essence of Kurl’s sound is mainly deep dub with hints of house groove that create a very unique sound environment connecting the listener to his lifestyle and movement. At the root of “Sacred Fire” is a very special love story. Kurl started an emotional partnership, a genuine brotherhood with MJ White, one of the pioneers of the soulful house music sound of the New York ’90s. Marshall James White appeared on many hits in the NYC club scene including Scandalous “Still Irresistible” just to name one. He tragically passed away in November 2015. MJ White gives soul to “Sacred Fire” by writing the lyrics and interpreting it with so much passion that Kurl was able to transform this track into an eternal love song. For Kurl, MJ White will remain the angel with a heavenly voice, and above all, a memory that will mark his internal and musical journey for the rest of his days In the words of MJ white “music has a huge heart that beats inside all of us.

Texas Recordings Underground made its mark this spring with the well-received Techno/Electro “Cyber Tex EP” that featured electro wizard Cygnus and E.R.P. aka Gerard Hanson. Not to rest on his laurels, TX Connect’s Gavin Guthrie is following that up with the 2nd release on the label by Austin’s man-of-the-moment Bill Converse themes. Bill has been known to local Austinites for years as one of Texas’ best DJs and recently released a mix for Resident Advisor highlighting those skills. But it’s now his productions that are really starting to show his talents. Iconic label Dark Entries has thought enough of his work to release the seminal double album “Meditations/Industry” as well as the follow-up 12inch “Warehouse Invocation”. His debut on T.R.U. contains 2 deep excursions with “7 of 9” and “Ahead”, both Tech House masterworks that mix elements of Chicago and Detroit with a Texas flair that keeps it definitively Bill Converse. Ahead in particular brings Ron Trent’s Altered States to mind as well as some of Boo Williams’ premier work with its synths swirling around the metallic 909 percussion

After a quick 4 years hiatus, filled with releases on Innervisions, Maeve and a couple of remixes, Aera is finally back on his own Aleph Music imprint with 3 unique tracks. A1. Two Planets is the most obvious track of the EP. An exercise in outsider trance, a pulsating, polyrhythmic synth propels the track forward, the intricate 77 pattern keeps a steady pace, while background strings provide all the drama. B1. Stylistically reminiscent of Aera's first releases on Aleph Music, Black Glitz is the deepest track of the bunch. Floating on a cloud of dreamy pads and voices, that arpeggio makes you realise immediately who you are dealing with. B2. Maskull is a rather ambiguous little tune. Somewhat rough around the edges, sparkling in the darkness of late nights, dwelling in voices and fog, this is the one for the heads.

With the highly anticipated release of Thorsteinssøn's ‘Academy of Heroes' album on the horizon, Pets Recordings have decided the flip the switch early and precede the longplayer with a fantastic trio of remixes. Academy of Heroes is described as ‘deliciously cosmic and cheerily schizophrenic' and looking to break down and reconstruct some of this glorious frenzy are three exciting producers, each of which have chosen a track from the album to remix. First up is London based Pets pal Ashworth, who returns to the label for the first time since December's ‘Collapsed' ep. 'Sixtrack Blues' is the track of choice with Ashworth harnessing the originals dreamy vibe and adding a punchy guitar driven groove. Talking of ‘punch', Gerd steps up, under his Geeeman guise, on a rework of 'Sammy'. Taking the original's liquidy and acidic melody the Dutchman straightens and replays, replacing the original's loose drums with a raw, kickass rhythm of his own to turn Sammy into a warehouse weapon. Fresh from their Boiler Room debut, Berlin live act Cab Drivers select the bulbous cosmic disco of ‘Midnight At Taffey's' to resculpt. A driving drum pattern turns the original slomo groover into a stellar swinging workout. A superb selection of remixes, each far removed from Thorsteinssøn's originals. Making the anticipation for the Academy Of Heroes that much greater. Enjoy

Alogte Oho is the number one Frafra gospel artist from within the explosive music scene of Bolgatanga in Northern Ghana. His international debut was the 2014 single Zota Yinne (Philophon PH45002), which has already become a collectors item. Alogte Oho is, as always, accompanied by his powerful female choir, the Sounds of Joy, comprised of Lizy, Patricia and Florence - all fantastic gospel performers in their own rights. The A-side, Mam Yinne Wa, is pure future gospel: a swinging rhythm with pumping synth bass and playful horns that weave around the eulogising choir of the group. As a highlight, the chasing flute solo of Free Jazz great Sabir Mateen (Cecile Taylor, Sunny Murray, Hamid Drake) catapults you into another dimension! On the B-side, Yu Ya Yumma, the rhythm section is driven by reggae master Josie Coppola on drums and gives a solid foundation for the brilliant performance of the singers. The title means: let's sing a song. And that is exactly what the group is doing.

‘Elocution', the third Figure EP from portuguese producer Lewis Fautzi, again displays a high defree of versatility but still comes cleary cut for the club. Employing a rich yet spacious sound design, Fautzi creates cinematic scapes that are at once both brimming with the hums of colossal interstellar machinery yet at the same time leave enough room for a range of carefully sculpted elements to do their work. Whether it be the twisted acid arpeggio on opener Shizophrenia, the imposing drones underscoring the mighty Mirror or the propulsive percussion of centerpiece 37B. Testament to Fautzi's talent of engaging arrangement, never do the tracks here feel hurried nor do they become stagnant - but rather given just the right time to ripe into their full captivating potential. No matter if one is to approach this records as already an avid lover of Lewis Fautzi's work or comes to it simply looking for fresh takes on the classic formula, this enthralling EP certainly will satisfy everyone's needs.

For its fifth release, Amsterdam's Taped Artifact offers up a various artists EP that features four tracks including one from the boss, Kevin Arnemann, as well as Hiver, Elmer and Physical Therapy. It is a moody and atmospheric deep techno offering that fits in with the label's ever more singular aesthetic. Up first is Physical Therapy, a producer who since 2012 has put out some fine EPs and LPs on labels like 1080p, Unknown to the Unknown and Liberation Technologies. It is a roomy affair with corrugated mid tempo drums down low and haunting pads up top. Building in intensity with some icy hi hats, it ends up as a ghoulish number that adds real theatre to the floor. Next up is Elmer, key part of Brussels' Bepotel Records crew. Melting techno, wave and dub into raw and expressive new forms, this new cut ‘Simple Models' makes great use of analog machinery. Again deep and horizonless, a rippling lead synth line plays off an industrial bass riff as paddy drums roll on below. It's humid and heady stuff, to be sure. Then comes the boss who offers a more dubbed out and bumpy dubtechno track with expansive chords rolling off into the distance and light and airy hi hats dancing in the mid ground. It's one to get floors moving before the Hiver duo of Giuseppe Albrizio and Sergio Caio from labels like Curle and Vidab close things out with the dusty old breakbeats and woozy spaced out synths of ‘Intersect.' This is a subtle but impactful EP full of sensitive underground sounds that pack a real punch.

One remix is by legendary US band, Salem, the other two by Berlinbased American/French producerDJs, Daniel Wang & J.E.E.P. The title track Device Control opens with a stunning kaleidoscope of synths by Kyle Combs (New York) leading into the bouncing, hypnotic main body of this 134 bpm dance track, which Tillmans worked on with Tim Knapp at Trixx Studios Berlin. Additional live drums are by Rosie Slater of New York band, New Myths. The lyrics are made up of fauxsmartphone adverts about the supposed possibilities of streaming one’s life. The song was written and recorded in one take with an iPhone voice recorder followed by various stages of production in Berlin and New York. Angered Son borrows a single line lyric from a New York Times article about the perpetrator of the Orlando shooting: ‘His son had recently been angered by seeing two men kissing’. In two different a cappella versions, the looped and sampled vocals recall songs in the round style. The AA side is devoted to three outstanding remixes of this summer’s Make It Up As You Go Along. In what amounts to something of a music world sensation, Tillmans was able to win Salem’s Jack Donoghue and John Holland as contributors, it being their first released music in five years.

Zwischenfall formed in Belgium in 1982 with Michael Sass (synths), Martin Urban (bass/vocals) and Stephan Kraemer (guitar/drums). They were united by their interest in combining electronic and traditional instruments, which developed the basis for 1982 demo recordings. By chance Patrick Codenys of the Belgian electro pioneers Front 242, heard two songs and decided to record a 4-song EP for the newly formed Mask label. The Heute EP was released in 1983 after a week of recording in Front 242's private studio under the direction of sound-whiz Daniel B. Bearing in mind MIDI had not been invented at the time, the recording involved some extensive sound sculpting including the use of individual synths (PPG Wave, Syrinx, Roland System 100, etc.) for separate drum sounds. Features two bonus tracks from the “Heute” sessions never before released on vinyl. Each copy includes an 6-page press kit booklet.

Known for their deep and hypnotic yet fiercely engaging sound of dramatic melodies and formidable low end, the duo paint a vivid display of emotional dance floor scenarios in two exquisitely crafted tracks. ‘Interstellar’ takes off with heavy, pulsating drums and long blasts of sub bass as an enchanting exhibit of melodic wash over open spaces. The flip side sees the two join forces with the sultry voice of Delhia de France on ‘Desire Of Mine’ creating a deeply emotional tune that pulses with climactic fever. Returning the favor for last year’s remix, Ruede expertly twists the original ‘Desire Of Mine’ with his unique brushstroke of sweltering organic percussion and infectious atmospheres ideal for a multitude of events.

Hailing from Tel Aviv, and cutting her chops on the Los Angeles underground, Mor Elian is a relatively new name on the block, but her deft tastes have seen her share the stage with the likes of Kerri Chandler, Mike Dunn, Seven Davis Jnr, DJ Qu and many more, and most recently, releasing her debut vinyl release on the excellent Prime Numbers label, featuring FXHE’s OB Ignitt on remix duties. On ‘Drum Vortex’, Mor strikes a killer release for Hypercolour, enlisting two big remixes on the release from Joey Anderson and Markus Suckut. On her original mix, ‘Drum Vortex’ rolls out a ricocheting drum workout that indeed goes through the vortex; otherworldly voices and cosmic drones sit in the middle of the mix whilst the rides and hats intensify. Joey Anderson has proven himself as one of the most diverse house producers out there, with offerings for Dekmantel, Syncrophone Recordings and Tanstaafl Planets. Joey remodels ‘Drum Vortex’ into an old style warehouse dub; rolling congas and snares with incessant synth stabs and bending strings, making up for one serious remix from Mr. Anderson. Another interpretation is on offer from Markus Suckut, whose techno prowess has shone for labels like Rekids, Be As One, Mosaic and his own Exile label (run with Johannes Heil). Suckut’s trademark dense beats are in play here, shuffling hats and micro bleeps weave through vocal elements and sturdy percussive work, bringing a touch of the Berghain style to this remix package. Closing the release is another original production from Mor; ‘Basma’ again focuses of the drum groove, with bright and springing claps bouncing off the hazy bottom ends and melodic touches.

Concepts and ideas come fast and furious to Berlin trio Brandt Brauer Frick. Having turned heads from the group’s inception with their classically-informed approach to creating techno compositions with acoustic instruments, BBF’s output has been characterized by a restless creativity. The search for new sonic territory lead the group to record with a full 13-piece orchestra, and later to strip down their sound to sparse arrangements featuring more electronic textures, and to record an aggressively diverse DJ-Kicks mix on a legendary club sound system using only vinyl dubplates. Now, on the first new single release in over a year, the band adds a new element: the voice of collaborator Beaver Sheppard, who adds vocals to two new compositions. “We met Beaver in Montreal during Mutek and it was love at first sight,” the band says. “We had the chance to bring him over for a series concerts for some corporate shows in Switzerland and had 4 weeks of studio time and started working on songs together. These two songs are among the first we did together with Beaver back in 2013″. The partnership with Sheppard is a perfect fit; adding a slightly melancholy focal point to Brandt Brauer Frick’s percussion-heavy arrangements. The first fruits of the collaboration, “Holy Night” and “Poor Magic” comprise the new single, rounded out by a remix from Tom Trago. A full length album is in the works: release expected late summer 2016.

Impressionistic dub-house devotee Hubert Clarke Jr. fluctuates through several deviations of Sydney afterhours circuit specialties on his debut, Al Dente. Alternately wired and unwound, classic and contempo, vibed soul and lean house, the EP threads soft-focus funk into longform live voyages, naturalist emotion, dance as relaxed delirium. The vocal samples evoke a mood of reflective idealism, spirits undiminished, hope in spite of it all. Dusted with memories and reveries of Heavenly, Picnic, and Mad Racket parties, hallucinated Omar-S demos, newer Sex Tags sides, and various nations under a groove, HJC’s 4 originals (plus a remix by Adelaide vibe squad MBM) feel like a beginning, a submerged energy swelling to the surface. Black vinyl 12 inches in stickered sleeves designed by Peta Farago with smiley meatball illustrations by John-Henry Pajak and Geordie Cargill.

Dark Entries Editions is proud to announce the next reissue in their series of rare Italo Disco club hits. Clay Pedrini is a musician and singer from Milan. He released his only single, “New Dream”, in 1984 on Sensation Records. Despite his limited output, Pedrini proved himself to be a shining star of the Italo scene. Unfortunately, his career was cut short by a severe case of whiplash, but his fusion of analog keyboards and electronic trickery has stood the test of time.Clay had the idea for “New Dream” during a summer vacation. When he returned home and met up with his friend and fellow musician Manlio Cangelli, things began to develop. Influenced by Giorgio Moroder and Kraftwerk, together they wrote and recorded “New Dream” at B3 Studio in Milan in 1983. Arpeggios soar amidst cutting edge electronic percussion, but Clay’s strong vocals take the lead on this tale of lost love and summer’s end. The E-mu Drumulator, a sample-based drum-machine similar to the famous Linn Drum, was featured prominently. Additional electronic drums and keyboards were played by Massimo Costa, and backing vocals were done by Fulvio Monieri. The infectious chorus was sung by Lorella Ghilardi, the vocalist for Blue Russell, B. Rose, and Ella Morris. On the B-side there is an instrumental version with a mid-song breakdown and dubbed out chorus. Both songs are remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in a jacket with original photo of Clay playing a synthesizer framed by a television screen with block typography by Filippo Maniscalco. of a female model lying on the floor grabbing the leg of a mannequin. Each copy includes 2-sided postcard with lyrics, photos and notes designed by Eloise Leigh.

When a label within thirteen catalog releases has only one of them branded as ‘various artists’, than the focus on this release seems to be really interesting. Exactly that is the case with DREIZEHN and it’s three protagonists. Der Dritte Raum co/pilot ‚Ralf Uhrlandt’ opens up the split-release with his elegant-motor - skills house to techno track New Sights on the A side. With his contribution the door’s lifted from the hinges and when the guitar hook line appears you’re kissed from the sun in a world of an easy-going, feather light dance expressed manifest. On the B1 CLICK FARM crafts a wonderfully layered, deep minimal bassline driven hunter-techno masterwork which surely will be heard this summer on the dancefloors. B2: Der Dritte Raum – an old friend and labelowner of the swinging addiction- grooves here with his tune ‚El Sonido’ and shows again the great school of easy techno music production.

An absolute slammer from the Brothers camp!On the A side Berlin based Eomac and Rory St John team up to create a rolling broken beat groover. Laden with spooky, spaced out synth lines, crisp percussion and a truly hypnotic flow. Throw in some exploding distortion and your left with a real journey of a track from start to finish. The B side is another story entirely. Joe Farr a fast rising star in the UK techno scene team up with Witch, who have released on Happa's label PT/5 Records, with remixes from Shifted and Truss. A harsh, angry, fast and aggressive line starts their collaboration off and ploughs its way through to the end. Distorted and filtered hi hat patterns drive the track forward with pure energy only relenting to open up space for a broken dubbed out kick and whip-lashing acid line.

“The ever-busy AUS Music continue to assert their consistency and follow up EPs from Tom Demac, Escape and Youandewan with the second offering on the label from Toronto born Bwana. Having kept his cards close to his chest during a 2 year hiatus from releasing music, Bwana broke the silence with his ‘Flute Dreams’ EP back in December of 2014 which offered a propitious insight into the second chapter of his anthology. Now returning with his ‘Tengo’ EP, he continues on form, reaffirming the benefits of patience and proving that he’s an artist capable of touching many bases effectively. Continuing to widen the gulf between his original and current sound, the A side opens up with a pacy, Trance-minded thud that becomes coloured with thick, swooning melodies before ‘Drop Mechanism’ sets impassioned strings and sweeps over a thick, booming low-end. ‘Due-West’ then sets out a snapping, forthright groove that rounds up a rich and varied EP leaving us left wondering what else Bwana has tucked up his sleeve.

Constantly building around a twisted acid line and snapping percussion, the track eventually blossoms with incredible lushness. Perfection. On “Visions” Nacho takes the plunge. Classic deep house in its purest form. Swirling synth and warm, rounded bassline create a track that will surely become a future classic.

Simian Mobile Disco RemixThe Leeds based producer Bwana expands on the amorous brand of Bass he’s built his reputation with and turns in his ‘Flute Dreams’ EP; an iridescent packet that sits comfortably in big room spaces and comes bolstered by a remix from Simian Mobile Disco. The title track crescendos behind a thrumming kick and chirping melodies as it gathers luminous tones and textures throughout. Simian Mobile Disco then weigh in and drive clipped acid patterns under hustling drums in a tense and capacious rework.

"Time will tell" they say, and so it didn't… 'Lebush' had been lost in the minibar archive since 2005, making a few strongly unnoticed reappearances year in, year out, before finally ending up on Gluck's '…just the tip' ep today. The package comes with a self-explanatory 'lebush-kickmix' version by Cabanne, as well as two debilitating slices of interstellar ear pain called 'inlove' and 'werehouse', both recorded while performing freestyle dentistry on a dead yet actively reluctant coat hanger. While doctors, surgeons and butchers the world over can only frown, you can get your own copy before they're banned in your country.
