A truly community focused release and one of the toughest sounding, hardcore skratch tools released. A staple in any Skratchlords live show to date, CSM Skipless is a master level show-vinyl and a high quality training tool at the same time.Filled with classic sounds, mastered for the hardest, crispiest and deadliest audio assaults any skratcher can offer, and all in the raw style of the Community Skratchlords. This record was originally a crowd-funded project, born out of the collective spirit of the Community Skratch Games – a yearly event held in Galway, Ireland that brings together some of the top-level bosses of the international scratch world to battle, inspire each other and collaborate. Each side has around 12 tracks of skipless skratch sounds – sounds looped up in such a way that it won’t matter if the needle skips during heavy skratching or on badly set up equipment.Side-A has the beats configured in a 3-point pattern which you get when the samples are looped at 99.99 BPM – each sample starts at one of 3 points on the record, making it easy to visualize where the sounds are.Side-B has faster samples, looped up at 116.66 BPM which gives a 7-point pattern and sped up to get more samples per rotation. This side works best on ultra-pitch turntables that can do -50% pitch adjustments.

Different Circles ringleaders, Mumdance & Logos, load up their first joint plate since the seminal Proto [2015] LP with two super wide, grittily spacious and HD hybrids of grime, techno and sci-fi sound design for their highly collectible series. Proceeding the label’s sought-after shots from Rabit, Airhead, and two volumes of the Weightless compilation featuring Inkke, Dark0, Murlo, and the pair's own gem, Café Del Mar; this new 12" catches them carving out a quintessentially UK rave sound for 2017 from a bank of modular kit and software plugins. On the A-side, FFS they feel to warp the club with head-compressing subbass hits and pinched claps wrapped in a slow-strobing, stop-start derangement punctuated by nutty vocals and convulsive modem noise. It’s as close as they’ve come to turning the club into a faulty anti-gravity chamber and sends dancers reeling every time. The B-side’s BMT explores a skizzier, belligerent sound. Rolling from elusive location recordings to stuttering flashcore kicks and a flush of plasmic bell tones shredded up with combustible digital distortion, they toe a fine line between panic and dread, and a more stush, shark-eyed sort of resolution, preferring to re-calibrate and translate their influences from classic tech-step, grime and cinematic sound design, rather than merely imitate them. The result is a proper rave girder that stands out miles from the crowd.

Six months in the making, and only ever shown once, RGBPM is a remarkable geometric whorl of colour sound and rhythmelodic forms synchronised thru the custom-built Weirdcore software. As you can see in the downloadable video attachment, the music and visuals are choreographed in symbiosis, with abstract shapes and colours correlating to the music’s structure and tonal feels. The results arguably form a big highlight of Jackson’s remarkable, lengthy oeuvre, which has to date taken in a wealth of sleeve designs for classic hip hop and acid house records, right thru to his estimable A+Ring of the Output label and his work as a producer and remixer of note. The fact that RGBPM still sounds futureproof-fresh today is testament to the timeless nature of his approach to his art - even now, and always effective on an immediate level; with a special ability to evoke context from a paucity of inputs. The tracks lend themselves perfectly to DJs and dancers as much as home consumption, taking us from sleek, purring cosmic techno strokes in the first instance, to pulsing minimal techno in the 2nd part, before flashing his most NYC-inspired chops with a hefty, rolling display of toned disco arpeggios, and then slipping into more expressive, abstract dark wave in the final part. Thanks to a combination of his economical production and optimised mastering, each piece really comes alive on the wax, offering a series of respectively immersive environments that totally hold up on their own without the visual aspect, whilst still prompting richly visual analogs from their super wide and lushly rendered dimensions. If you were at all into the Format album and its component parts, this is an absolute must have.

A reeel gem of found art on this rare, lost recording by Morteza Hannaneh, co-founder of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. Made sometime in the 1960’s for Tehran Radio, the recording had long been thought lost until it was recently found on tape by Hannaneh’s grandson who has now pressed it to vinyl. A proper find this, aided by some handsome artwork by Thomas Jeppe, a noted artist familiar with Persian culture.Without definitive records to go from, Tschashm-e-Del was presumably recorded in the ‘60s (certainly pre-revolution) and quite possibly broadcast on Radio Tehran. Now restored from the original reels, it reveals a gorgeous and important suite of music set to a Ghazal - an ancient Arabic ode, or poetic expression of the pain and beauty of love, loss or separation - written by Hatef Esfehani, who was a famous Iranian poet of the 18th century. The ghazal deals with the founding principles of Sufism and monotheism through a love story between Hatef and a Christian girl, with Morteza Hannaneh’s musical arrangement matching the specific rhyming structure of its ancient classical form, itself rooted in tradition stretching back to at least the 10th century, whilst also incorporating string elements of western orchestration relating to Hannaneh’s background in composing for cinema. It’s the kind of music you might expect to turn up on a Folkways or Dead-Cert release and has expanded our musical horizons, drawing parallels with everything from that magical Dariush Dolat-Shahi Electronic Music, Tar and Sehtar album, to Daphne Oram’s own radio play work. It has a strangely eerie quality, in part due to the worn and weathered recording, but also perhaps due to the fact it captures a place in time that’s long since faded into our collective memory...

Lee Gamble’s UIQ welcomes Sim Hutchins to the hyperprism with Vantablank Stare, an insightful A/V project born from a personal discontent with the vacuous repetition of 24 hour rolling news coverage, and presenting a critical response to, in his own words; “the daily bombardment of news items on corruption and our societal inclination to be ‘in the know’ about current affairs”. Aesthetically, the EP’s three tracks of roiling post-junglism and fractured dub techno tessellations most acutely recall the tumbling designs of N1L and Lanark Artefax 12”s but, its conceptual drive is closer to Sam Kidel’s Disruptive Muzak in the way it extracts from current socio-political issues ubiquitous to nearly all our lives, and especially for anyone living in the UK right now. The dissection of its subject is most literal in the accompanying video, presenting stark, stock CGI representations of those coldly contemporary news studios that we’ve all seen too much of in recent times, with accompanying banners ribboning fake “statements” and “breaking news” that, on first glance, are almost indistinguishable from the ‘real’ thing, yet coolly subvert the text to their own end, exposing its function as a tool for public control. However, the music is less literal and more elusive, abstract and metaphorical, using samples of radio waves, covert signals and intercepted E-Comms as the raw material for an impressionistic tussle of invisible forces, translating as head-stretching recursive phase shifts and disembodied jungle structures in Some Men (you) Just Want to Watch the World Burn and as an allegory for passive, anxious textural attrition in Nescience Is Not Ignorance on the A-side, whilst the B-side unfurls a knottier tract of warped, quicksilver dub techno with Some Men (me) Just Want to Let the World Burn, which, you’ll notice, contrasts with the title of the A-side, and lays bare the artist’s paradoxical dilemma; highlighting the difference between disrupting the system and sitting back and waiting for its inevitable demise.

Stephen O’Malley deploys the 2nd in a trio of documents of his improvisational prowess following his crushing Fuck Fundamentalist Pigs, which was brought forward in tribute to the Paris attacks and released in late 2015.The minimalist electric guitar mantra Dread Live was performed at Studio Helmbreker in Haarlem, Netherlands, September 2013, and recorded by Mathijs Ton on a hypercardiod ribbon mic with immaculate 70’s valve amp back line and technical support by the great Tos Nieuwenhuisen. The set was programmed as part of the opening of the Dread - Fear in the age of technological Acceleration exhibition at De Hallen Haarlem, curated by Juha Van’t Zelfde. It renders 40 minutes of Sunn 0)))’s O’Malley at his most depressive and heavy and is something akin to a slow-motion baptism by waves of tarry, blackened harmonic distortion, holding us under ’til we nearly pass-out from its sinking pressure. Needless to say - it’s insanely good. How low can you go? O’Malley knows.

Introducing Tess Roby, a 23 year old musician and photographer born in Toronto and now living in Montreal. "Ballad 5" is a song of love and loss in the humid Montreal summer—the sound of Parc Avenue in the blue light of dawn. Her music echoes the cascading pulse of Steve Reich, the drone of Stereolab, and the melancholic drift of Durutti Column, and her voice lands somewhere between Broadcast's Trish Keenan and Nico. On record she is accompanied by her brother ELIOT ROBY Roby on guitar. Limited Edition of 500 on ultra clear vinyl.

Genre:Rock / Indie
Rock music, when done right, will always take us into a netherworld that we never knew existed, but we always somehow felt was within ourselves. The cosmos of inescapable rhythm, in-your-face melody and words, all speak simple truths that perhaps we couldn’t speak for ourselves. Austin, TX trio SUSPIRIANS summons that netherworld with their sophomore album Ti Bon Ange. The album title is taken from a Haitian voodoo term that translates literally to “little good angel”—the part of one’s soul that holds one’s individuality and personal qualities, which leaves the body when sleeping so you can dream. It’s a title quite befitting of the experience listening to Ti Bon Ange, where listeners become immersed in sound. From the first notes of the album, throughout its 7-song, 40 minute duration it’s clear that Suspirians aim to deconstruct rock in a way that’s both psychedelic and mysterious. Guitarist/vocalist MARISA POOL, bassist/keyboardist STEPHANIE DEMOPULOS and drummer LISA CARMERON craft songs that shape-shift from part to part rather than follow traditional verse-chorus-verse structure. It’s a wall of guitars and subtle synth layers, vocals drenched in reverb and on the brink of feedback, powerful and open drumming that allows the songs to flow like molten lava without ever sounding lethargic. Points of reference bridge a wide array of psychedelic, punk and experimental sounds: Pylon, Sonic Youth, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Stooges first album, Frightwig, early Butthole Surfers, Roky Erickson & The Aliens, late 70s British post-punk and more.

Joey Rubbish must be stopped, but it’s too late for that. As the architect of every note on this immaculate new LP, he joins the ranks of other groundbreaking modern home-recording luminaries such as Jay Reatard, Nobunny, Mikey Hyde of Medication, and Rich Crook of Lost Sounds/Lover!, all able to cover every instrumental note recorded, as well as the vocals & recording. Not a small feat and worth noting since it’s such a rare thing to pull off, especially when it’s this nuanced and complex, even by power pop standards. And with that, The Rubs second offering is finally here with Impossible Dream, a full spectrum of songs so tightly-knit, so cleverly-written, and so impossibly dreamy, you won’t be able to pull them out of your skull for eternity. Agonizingly articulate pop that can barely contain it’s own excitement, these songs just keep hitting you, one after another, each better than the last, just continuously pounding their unwavering contagiousness into your brazen heart. First edition of 300 copies. Includes download.

The legendary 1973-74 ‘Teac Tapes’ from deep inside the Dwight Twilley Band vault have been unleashed, never before available in any format, Oister was the primary name of the Dwight Twilley and Phil Seymour duo from the time they met in 1967 until the release of their Top 20 debut “hit” single for “I’m On Fire” in 1975. The two “halves” of the Oister formed a whole, and a tight friendship and performing partnership took flight, and with Dwight’s incredible songs in hand, the two were off an running. Recording at home with one of the first (commercially-available to the public) multi-track Teac home tape machines, the Oister DIY ethic was locked in early, and just exploded with an endless stream of ethereal pop magic, most of which has never been re-recorded by the Dwight Twilley Band, remaining frozen in time. The pair were cranking out an impressive amount of original material and pressing small batches of their own acetate LPs locally in Tulsa to sell to their friends at school, of which, this 2xLP collection rounds up 20 of their finest tracks, finally available to the public after over 40 years. First edition of 500 copies. Includes a download.

Out in the Storm is the blazing result of a woman reawakened. Her most autobiographical and honest album to date, Out in the Storm is a self-reflective anchor in the story of both ws songwriting and her life. The album tells the story of taking control of a volatile situation, embracing flaws, and exploring a new sonic freedom. The album was tracked at Miner Street Recordings in Philadelphia with John Agnello, known for working with some of the most iconic musicians of the last 25 years, including Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. Agnello and Crutchfield worked together for most of December 2016, along with the band: sister Allison Crutchfield on keyboards and percussion, KATHERINE SIMONETTI on bass, and Ashley Arnwine on drums; Katie Harkin, touring guitarist with Sleater-Kinney, also contributed lead guitar. At Agnello’s suggestion, the group recorded most of the music live to enhance their unity in a way that gives the album a fuller sound compared to past releases, resulting in one of Waxahatchee’s most guitar-driven releases to date. Crutchfield’s voice oscillates between effortless grace and commanding righteousness, taking the listener with her on an explicitly personal journey. CD packaged in 4-panel uncoated digipak with foil stamp and printed insert. Regular LP version in uncoated jackets with foil stamp, black dust sleeve, a poster and download. Deluxe LP version in uncoated gatefold jackets with silver foil detail, black dust sleeve, full fold-out poster, downlaod and a bonus ten track disc pressed on white vinyl.

On Mike Krol Is Never Dead: The First Two Records, we catch up—with the past, that is. Indeed, Turkey, released in 2015, is Chapter 3 of the Krol saga; here, finally, are its long-lost predecessors. Self-released in 2011, I Hate Jazz was the opening salvo of World War Krol. Only 500 copies were pressed; they were given away to anyone who showed interest (and many who showed none whatsoever). Including Krol classics like “Fifteen Minutes” and “Like a Star,” the record has long been unavailable. Trust Fund followed in 2013; its 500 copies sold out on the ensuing tour, fueling a mini-mania that would elevate it to cult status. This set includes both records on freshly pressed Merge vinyl; an illuminating selection of digital outtakes, demos, and B-sides; and a fold-out poster showcasing a selection of Mike Krol ephemera. Cut at 45 prm and packaged with an oversize full-color poster and download.

The breathtaking second vinyl album (and fourth full-length) from Oakland's Ragana, a female two-piece whose members alternate duties on drums, guitar, and vocals to produce some of the most unique and affecting dark music being made today. Originally coming together in the DIY punk scene of Olympia, Washington, Ragana draw upon a number of influences from the flora and fauna of their Pacific Northwest origins to the darkly nostalgic folk of Mt. Eerie and, yes, their Olympian forebearers Wolves In The Throne Room, synthesizing them into an experimental, highly idiosyncratic take on black metal. Held together by an intense focus on raw emotion and haunting atmospherics, Ragana shifts seamlessly from tender, mesmerizing vocal harmonies to piercing, heart-ripping shrieks and back again. Heavy, dark, beautiful and punishing.

Swedish noise agitator Dan Johannsson bothers his good pals at iDEAL with a brilliant new LP following his Aska split album with Puce Mary in 2013. Malign by nature and intent, his overdue return to Joachim Nordwall’s label is a sorely strung out and decayed thing, a dank space hankering to be inhabited by listeners who want or need to be pushed into uncomfortable headspaces. If you're into anything from Jandek to Wolf Eyes to The Caretaker - this one's for you.Malign trades in a sense of depression and negativity that draws strength from the vacuum behind hope, vacillating forlorn, Loren Connors-like guitar melodies and rubbled shellac samples that recall The Caretaker with passages of fierce distortion and slurried atmospheric textures that project hellish images of waterboarding and abject terror on the mind. The guitar pieces are almost Jandek-like in their awkwardness, often morphing mid sentence into the kind of shuddering knots that Aaron Dilloway would be proud of, steadily toeing away hope in favour of full depressive immersion and feelings from the brink.Ultimately, though, the record wouldn’t be so convincing without its severe sense of sincerity, honestly conveying that pall of darkness without any ironic distance. It’s a proper downer in the best way.

For the first time since 2009, the third and final part of Leyland Kirby’s hauntological masterpiece Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was is available on vinyl again. The synthetic lustre of Memories Live Longer Than Dreams already appeared deliciously cracked and damaged the first time around, and in 2017 its phosphorescent glow remains a beacon of shelter for contemplation and secluded mind-drift, offering a surreal, nostalgic night-light to the gloomy and confused world it diagnosed and predicted nearly ten years ago. Written during James Leyland Kirby’s forlorn purgatorial years spent in Berlin during the period which shaped the modern world as we know it - a time when global financial institutions collapsed, YouTube’s all-encompassing archive was beginning to spill over, and Facebook and Twitter were starting to enmesh the entire planet - this final instalment finds Kirby channelling osmotically absorbed visions of the future, as spelt out by Vangelis, Lynch & Badalamenti, Eno and Kirby’s own The Caretekar alter ego, into a waking dream sequence of quietly anguished sound poems for the contemporary echo chamber, relinquishing a traversal of the hive mind’s private fears and shared nightmares rendered in ghostly scrolls of synth noise and sweepingly emotive cinematic gestures. It effectively diagnoses a sort of cultural malaise that was perhaps embryonic in 2009, as the golden age of dance/pop form and optimism which resulted in radical acts such as V/Vm and the Ccru was now left shimmering in the rearview, with the momentous energy of its accumulated, independent scenes being diffused into institutions or calcifying into hyper commercialism;- leaving little or no room for ambiguity, irony or subversively socialist thought within its increasingly binary wake; a wake which has now bifurcated into extreme left and right-leaning politics with a gulf of misunderstanding in between.Keening and reeling away his own thoughts on the matter in that interzone of negative space, Kirby draws on ever tightening coils of cultural feedback loops and the infidelity of memory to parse, process and secrete a slow, plasmic ooze of melancholic musical form that perhaps best represents the feelings of our age; of our shared future occluded by an inglorious or illusive past that promised much, yet never paid up.

St. Joe Louis emcees, Elete Wright, Michael Cardigan and Tommie Chase bound lyrically through each track, serving as narrators and Greek Chorus on this concept album.According to Michael Cardigan, “Coral Cadavers” is a “neo-noir psychological thriller about a woman’s descent into moral ambiguities against the backdrop of Los Angeles.”Guest emcees serve to add notable character exposition to the album including Roc Marciano (on “Driven”), Stalley (on “30,000”) Rah Digga (on “Duck Duck Goose”), Phonte & Tamisha Waden (on “Invitation”) respectively. This album is the culmination of a musical partnership that began in 2010 with the release of the New High 7'. St. Joe Louis was also featured heavily on the JR&PH7 “My Favourite Demons EP” in 2012 (along with other NJ crew, Brokn English).JR&PH7 have been working on music together for a decade. Among their work is numerous full-length producer albums (“The Standard”, “The Update”, “The Good Life” and “Noir”) which features appearances from notable emcees including Willie The Kid, Phonte, Sean Price and Roc Marciano. In 2015 Below System Records released “The South Sac Mack”, their full-length album with Sacramento emcee Chuuwee.

Reissue from this soul/jazz-funk fusion album originally released in 1982 on Poet Records. 500 copy LTD edition! This sought-after album is an amazing and unique creative project produced and composed by David Eric Tillman including outstanding performances by some of the highest-level musicians whose common thread was their ability to kill up tempo and modal bop and excel in this jazz-funk/fusion style thanks to their up bop think quick knowledge. This gem contains nothing but brilliant tracks like “…Space…Rapture”, “Love Is How”, “New Anniversary Waltz”, “It Must Be E.S.P.” and “(Sing) A Simple Song Of Praise”. Incredible golden lead and backing vocals, a super tight rhythm section, forward thinking arrangements, and an amazing combination of piano, Rhodes and various remarkable synthesizers makes this recording timelessly fresh. The beautiful “Time Is Love”, a tune of positive outlook written during her jazz composition studies, is performed by the one and only Carmen. Killer from the beginning to the end, one of our all-time favorite soul/jazz-funk LPs.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Riccardo Sinigaglia, with Gabin Dabiré and Walter Maioli, made up one third of Futuro Antico - one of the most important collaborations to emerge from the 1970’s and 80’s Italian avant-garde. The project, whose name literally translates to ancient future, joined traditional sounds and instrumental from around world, with electronic music - the sonic past, present, and future as one. Recorded shortly after the collective’s most prolific period and released in 1986, while more singular and more idiosyncratic, Sinigaglia’s Riflessi caries these very concerns at its core. Built from field recording, collaged samples, synthesis, and instrumentation - shifting from hypnotic rhythm to radical and displacing structures, it establishes a remarkable link between ancient and non-western musics and efforts emerging from studios like Groupe de Recherches Musicales. A work of staggering rhythm, texture, beauty, Riflessi builds a world with almost no parallel - imbuing electronic music with touch, tactility, and humanity, while sacrificing none its challenges and intellectual heights. Rattling sonorous wonder, emerging for the first time on any format since its original pressing, before us is a historic moment - a lost piece of the puzzle of the wondrous Italian avant-garde.

"The Loa of Music" is the debut recording project of Milanese composer and musician Roberto Musci inspired by Voodoo Religion; Vever (the magical voodoo paintings) and Loas, the dark and magic spirits. The deep charm of non-Western music has led him to travel for many years across Africa, India and Asia, studying rhythms, scales, performance and interpretation of the most varied traditional and indigenous music, as well he make many field recordings and collected ethnic instruments that would then be combined with synthesizers and electronics in The Loa of Music.Recorded in 1983, the project originally had 80 minutes of music but only half was released on original LP. SOAVE has pressed for the first time the Complete Recording Session from original tapes of this phenomenally ambitious masterpiece that entirely refuses the well trod path - distilling a remarkable range of sonic reference and reality. A work of field recording, musique concrète, electronics, synthesis, and instrumentation, pulling from countless musics from across the globe, the result is nothing short of brilliant and stunningly beautiful. A near perfect work - an egoless gesture, which rather than attempting to find consensus, offers every voice equity and cohabitation - harnessing the history music, with all of its cultural diversity, as a vision for a more ideal future. Geographies and their sounds intertwine, while Musci’s interventions and instrumentation thread a path. Ambiences ripple, sounds and voices converse in a vision of unity that may only exist within sonic realms. Unquestionably seminal, and one of the most important works to emerge from Italy in the last 50 years. Never before issued on vinyl since it’s original release, and surely not to be around for long, this is one not to miss.

Squadra Omega is one of the bands which best represents the vast spectrum of the Italian underground. Psychedelic, avant-garde, jazz-rock, improvisation, kraut-rock, rock in opposition and ethno-tribalism blend seamlessly into the work of a collective that moves and expands depending on the urgency of the moment, focused around a core that rotates around the two members OmegaMatt and OmegaG8. In the band's wide discography we find compositional freedom, improvised jam-sessions in and a amplitude of references, all of which move between different spaces and times.Materia Oscura (Dark matter) offers a glimpse at the same time the soil of the "rock" matter as well as the alien, seen from multiple points of view, neighbors and materials distant and mysterious. Three tracks that stretch their eyes at Orient or Africa as well as into the depths of the cosmos, landing on the side of the art-rock of the '70s and towards some psychedelic, visionary, cinematic drives then explode into a real ecstatic trip. Inputs from Coltrane, Canterburian jazz-rock, Grateful Dead and Synthy-Space views are melted into free-form landings until they discover their own personal form of prog. Different Universes collide and coexist in the band in a constant mutation, maintaining faith in one single ideal: "music for the third eye”.The album comes in a thick carton cover and with a central hole.

As the title, Robert Zimmerman Plays Bob Dylan, implies, these recordings show the young man we all now know as Dylan finding his way in NYC after bumming a ride from Madison in the early months of 1961. Featuring songs that were left off of his first two Columbia LPs, Bob Dylan and The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, as well as other assorted demos and unreleased recordings, this essential LP of early recordings perfectly captures his growth from traditional folk music interpreter into what he would become: America’s greatest living songwriter, pressed on a limited edition picture disc.

This LP brings together for the first time, HIP HARP and IN A MINOR GROOVE, the two albums recorded in 1958 by the legendary jazz harpist and polistrumentist Dorothy Ashby. Dorothy Ashby had a unique soul jazz harp sound, and although the instrument she used is probably more thought of in terms of bedtime lullabies, she actually makes it swing nicely, and with a soulful sound that draws back to traditions of African stringed instruments. Ashby was part of the same scene as Yusef Lateef, and like Lateef, she managed to use odd instrumentation in new contexts, to get a very unique jazz sound.“In HIP HARP in addition to the interpretations of standards like Moonlight In Vermont, Dancing In The Dark, Charmaine and There’s A Small Hotel, Dorothy and Frank work out on three Ashby tunes: Pawky, a minor-key blues, Back Talk, major-key blues and Jollity, a medium-up original. Dorothy Ashby has added to the basic territory that the harp previously occupied. In fusing her sometimes guitar-like, swinging line to the expected harp effects, she has added another step to the instrument-scope of jazz(...) (from the original liner notes) “IN A MINOR GROOVE is so named because all of the tunes are set in that particular mode. They represent a mixture of standards, jazz originals and one fairly recent pop song. Like the first set featuring Dorothy Ashby and Frank Wess (Hip Harp), this is not rock ‘em, sock ‘em jazz; it is far from the cloying effects of the kind of performances often associated with jazz of a low decibel nature” (from the original liner notes)Numbered first press of 500 copies.

A masterpiece of suspense and no-holds barred action, Puppet on a Chain wasadapted from Alistair Maclean's 1969 novel and released in 1971. Directed byGeoffrey Reeve and starring a granite-jawed Sven-Bertil Taube, the film's signatureboat chase (lasting eight minutes!) along the canals of Amsterdam was rumoured tobe the inspiration for the similar sequence in Bond's Live and Let Die. The action isunderpinned by Italian soundtrack maestro Piero Piccioni's blistering Hammondheavyscore. Piccioni composed around 300 soundtracks over four decades, but wasmost prolific during the 60's and 70's, when he was sought out by directors includingFrancesco Rosi, Mario Monicelli, Alberto Lattuada, Luchino Visconti, BernardoBertolucci, Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica and Lina Wertmuller. A talentedself-taught jazz musician, Piccioni's soundtrack to Puppet on a Chain retainseffortless style, portraying a decadent 1970's Amsterdam overrun with drugs andorganised crime.

Profusion (noun): an abundance of something rich - The sonic partnership of K15 and Emeson originated in the days of MySpace. A future of combining their skills was inevitable, and now in 2017, it's time to unleash their debut studio album into the ether. The solo-projects of Tottenham-raised Kieron Ifill (aka K15) date back a decade, but were truly kick-started on labels such as Kyle Hall's Wild Oats and WotNot Music, with a number of genre-crossing releases dropping ever since, including the WU15 project (along with Yussef Kamaal's Henry Wu, on Eglo Records). Additionally to his production work, he has established himself internationally as a DJ, from the Jazz Cafe to the CoOp parties. Partner in Profusion, Emeson, has many skills to his bow - singing, songwriting, producing, promoting, DJing (under the alias Ed Nice) and acting. As a musician, his varied skill-set has seen him work with Chico Hamilton, Carla Duke, Karmasound, Uzo Madu and Chris Jerome. A frontman for soul-jazz groups LifeSize, The One and Saturn's Children, he has featured on releases for BBE and Tokyo Dawn, and appeared live on stage at the likes of Ronnie Scott's. The debut single was supported by tastemaker blogs Wonderland, XLR8R and Stamp The Wax, has been bumped by selectors such as Lefto and Jazzie B, and played on NTS, Worldwide FM, Mi-Soul, LeMellotron, Balamii Radio, Itch FM, Invader FM, Soho Radio and various stations across Europe and the US. This album is full to the brim with summery sun-soaked synths, drifting across the warmest of basslines and heavyweight beats. Emeson's rich vocals gracefully ride atop of K15's delectably bruk twist on neo-soul sonics and electronics, this is some seriously classy contemporary London soul music, that manages to incorporate flashes of various dance music techniques, sound-system etiquette and jazz-tinged rhythms. As future-thinking as it is subtly retrospective, it doesn't lend itself to one genre, it intentionally embodies the best of many. An array of everything that is great about British black music in 2017. The message the album conveys itself couldn't have come at a more poignant time. Where do we begin?Profusion - an abundance of something rich indeed.

Bob Shad was one of the greatest music producers of the 20th century, having worked with all the music giants you can think of, from Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie to Sarah Vaughan, Lightnin' Hopkins, The Platters and Janis Joplin to name just a few. "Bobby Shad was a legend in our family" says his grandson Judd Apatow who, together with his sister Mia, still looks after Shad's back catalogue, Mainstream Records.Like his peers, jazz producers Creed Taylor and Bob Thiele, Shad went independent in the 60s and by the early 70s, he was producing a string of superb albums mixing Spiritual Jazz with Funk and Soul. These albums are now being rediscovered by new generation of Soul and Jazz lovers hooked on the music of Kamasi Washington and Shabaka Hutchings.Recorded between 1971 and 73, the Fender-Rhodes-drenched tracks on INNER PEACE showcase Shad's unique Deep Jazz sound. They feature such revered musicians as Harold Land, Roy Haynes and Frank Foster, together with a younger generation of talented musicians led by Buddy Terry, Dave Hubbard and LaMont Johnson. Here they are accompanied by the cream of 70s jazz session musicians including Bernard Purdie, Buster Williams, Eddie Henderson, Mtume, Stanley Clarke, and Cecil Bridgewater. The Mainstream catalogue has been sampled by a long list of revered DJs and Hip Hop producers over the years. Roy Haynes’ ‘Senyah’ was sampled by De La Soul on ‘Pony Ride’ and Shelly Manne’s short outro, ‘Infinity’ forms the unmissable backbone of Jeru The Damaja’s all-time Hip Hop classic, ‘Come Clean’. A fitting tribute to the supreme sound of producer Bob Shad.

Cementing his reputation as the star toaster with the small but popular El Paso sound system, based in the Waltham Park area, Dennis Alcapone was one of the first deejays to rise to prominence following U Roy’s breakthrough in the late 1960s. Born Dennis Smith in the rural district of Culloden, he became immersed in sound system culture after settling in western Kingston. Once El Paso became big on the sound system circuit, dental technician-turned-producer Keith Hudson brought him into the studio for his debut recordings, which led to a debut album for Studio One and hit material for Duke Reid, some cut in concert with his deejay sparring partner, Lizzy. Alcapone’s longstanding links with Bunny Lee yielded the excellent Guns Don’t Argue album, first issued in 1972, on which the toaster raps with style over some of Lee’s all-time greatest rhythms, including Delroy Wilson’s ‘Better Must Come,’ John Holt’s ‘Left With A Broken Heart’ and Slim Smith’s rendition of the Temptations’ soul classic ‘Ain’t Too Proud To Beg.’

During the mid-1970s, the Aggrovators could do no wrong. This ace team of session musicians that was forged as an off-shoot of the Soul Syndicate were responsible for some of the biggest hits of the decade, recorded with Bunny Lee’s rising stars, such as Johnnie Clarke and his rival, Cornell Campbell. Following on from the great Shalom Dub set of 1975, Rasta Dub ’76 is another truly magnificent dub set culled from Aggrovators hits (by Johnny Clarke, Cornell Campbell and others); this time, the entire album was given a scintillating mix-down at King Tubby’s studio by the great Prince Jammy, and the sonic excellence has stood the test of time. Another must-have for all connoisseurs of dub.

Born Roy Samuel Reid in Saint Thomas in 1944, I Roy was one of Jamaica’s all-time greatest deejays. A natural-born toaster, his rhyming raps always sounded effortless, whether describing the harsh realities of the inner city, or making light of nonsense nursery rhymes. A former employee at Customs and Excise, he was first active on a sound system called Soul Bunnies in the rock steady era, moving to Son’s Junior in 1968, and later, to the legendary Supreme Ruler of Sound, defecting to the rival Stereo sound system after that. Hits for Harry Mudie and other producers soon followed, and after the killer debut album Presenting I Roy impacted overseas, the toaster began spending frequent periods in London. His longstanding working relationship with hit-making producer Bunny Lee led to some of his most noteworthy albums during the mid-1970s; the 1977 set Can’t Conquer Rasta is a superb ‘showcase’-style album, on which the toaster blows hard lyrics over five of Lee’s killer ‘rockers’ rhythms (recorded with the likes of Johnny Clarke), each complete with a corresponding Aggrovators dub on the flip, all mixed by Prince Jammy at King Tubby’s studio.

One of Jamaica’s most highly-rated vocalists, Alton Ellis made an incredible contribution to the island’s popular music. Blessed with a particularly emotive voice that brings shivers to the spine whether singing original material or cover tunes, Ellis was born and raised in Trench Town, the west Kingston ghetto area that gave rise to Bob Marley and the Wailers and countless other singers. Ellis and singing partner Eddie Parkins hit big in 1961 with the ballad ‘Muriel’ for Coxsone Dodd, and after Parkins moved to the USA, Ellis teamed briefly with John Holt, and then began fronting the Flames harmony group. He excelled in the rock steady style, christening the genre with ‘Rock Steady’ and ‘I Have Got A Date,’ bouncing between Studio One and Treasure Isle for a number of years. From 1971, he spent increasing period in London, but continued to record hits in Jamaica for various producers. The 1979 release Love To Share was arranged by the great Studio One keyboardist, Jackie Mittoo, who co-produced the album with Junior Lincoln, founder of the London-based Bamboo label; the disc straddles the line between lover’s rock and roots reggae, remaining a lesser-known classic.

Oliver Ho's Broken English Club project delivers 12 tracks of decayed electronics and metallic techno finding a very fitting home on Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. imprint. TIP!Titled, "The english beach" the album is a sonic portrait of the strange and barren east coast town in england, called dungeness. Known as the only desert in the uk, abandoned buildings and wreckage litter the landscape. Overlooked by a nuclear power station, it feels lost in time.Created during time spent staying in a converted old fog singal building, situated right on the seashore of this desert landscape, this new album is the next step in the project, following the suburban hunting lp released on veronica vasicka's label cititrax.Exploring the empty concrete soul of this english beach, the Twisted metal ruins and crumbling buildings are drenched in dread and drip with a very english desolate romance. Dungeness is almost the physical manifestation of the broken english club sound. To compliment the album, oliver has compiled a book of Photographs of the area that also features burroughs inspired cut up word collages.

Moniquea established herself as one of the foremost female artists in the modern funk scene with her 2014 MoFunk Records debut album Yes No Maybe. For her followup, she continues exploring and expanding upon the boogie/modern soul sound of her debut, and at the same time, ventures bravely into a new sound inspired by the new wave and synthpop sounds of the 80’s. Thus, the album title: "Blackwavefunk".Listening to "Blackwavefunk" feels like sweeping across a spectrum of sounds and feels. The lead single, “Checkin’ Out,” channels the ‘street funk’ sound that Moniquea’s native California is known for, while “I Just Don’t Know” slows the pace and mood to offer up one of the few true downtempo love songs of the genre. “When You Are Away,” “Make You Feel My Love” (feat. Brian Ellis) and “Why Can’t You See” offer sleek, sexy modern soul soundscapes while the Turquoise Summers-produced “Knew It” thumps with a menacing g-funk bounce. Finally, the wave in "Blackwavefunk" reveals itself on the eccentric “Check Your Sources,” an anthem about sordid speculation and grievous gossip, over a musical backdrop that sounds like 1999-era Prince and DPG somehow achieved perfect sonic fusion. The album’s closer, “Famous,” takes it further and gives a glimpse of what it might sound like if Bernie Worrell played synth basslines for OMD or Pet Shop Boys.

Recorded on the 1st of January, 1962, in London, this is maybe the most famous audition tape in popular music history, an audition that altered the course of 20th century rock music. The Beatles, in their Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Best incarnation, recorded these 12 rollicking covers for the Decca label in just under an hour. They were eventually rejected by the label and went on to sign with EMI subsidiary, Parlophone, and the rest, as they say, is history. Had they signed with the label in the winter of 1962, would they have become the band that changed the world? Who knows... but what is clear is that this was a great band, even in infancy, and these great rock and roll covers not only show their potential, they're a damn fun listen in their own right. Reissued on 180 gram LP with download card.

Desiderii Marginis long out of print debut album from 1997 “Songs Over Ruins” is given a proper re-issue, carefully remastered by Johan Levin himself and with new artworks as CD and limited edition LP. A landmark in the genre, with it’s desolate, minimalistic and grief stricken odes to religious and spiritual burdens. A foray through abandoned ruins and a reflection on the passing of time and the impermanence of all things physical. Outstanding in quality and production skills, this mesmerizing and foreboding journey is at times tranquil and melodic and also dives into more martial like percussive elements and industrial atmospheres. Classics like these definitely need to be discovered still and also rediscovered, and it’s with great pleasure that we make it available once again.
