Michael Claus - memory Protect
Michael Claus
memory Protect
Tape | 2017 | US | Original (100% Silk)
8,99 €*
Release:2017 / US – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Bay Area beacon Michael Claus operates from an overtly Pacific perspective in his house and techno constructs, shaping fog and bass along shorelines of elusive rhythm. Though active since 2004 he’s only in the past few years begun issuing tracks under his own name to the public domain, the latest collection of which goes furthest in embedding amorphous acid and cloud-soft synths into introspective coastal jack. Memory Protect maps eight hazed designs sourced from three years of work, misting the difference between movement and meditation, atmosphere and anticipation. Past collabs with Nackt hinted at a subtle touch for hypnosis and heightened sensory environment but here Claus captures his essence in its freest, most fluid state. Bodies of water, oceans of memory – what collects, continues. Recorded in San Francisco, 2014-2017. Mastered by Matt Tammariello.
Cherushii - Memory Of Water

Memory Of Water
Tape | 2015 | US | Original (100% Silk)
9,99 €*
Release:2015 / US – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Released in tandem with her Far Away So Close 12” though recorded almost a year later, Memory Of Water pools together eight dazed Cherushii excursions through sci-fi opera house, digital dolphin scapes, cloud city slowgrind, ultraviolet synthwave, and ambient quicksand. Distinctly her least DJ-dedicated collection, exploring all kinds of sprawls and sketches and planetarium textures not intended for dancefloor consumption– although ex-tour sister MARIA MINERVA does cameo on “Thin Line,” a prize pearl of Estonian discotheque-pop about “trembling on a tightrope caught between sweet seduction and mass destruction.” But in general this is Cherushii in research-and-development mode, vibing rich veins out of new wiring schemes, chilled champagne, and Mission memories. A revealing cross-section of diverse designs, down its own side street. Pro-dubbed tapes in label J-cards. Mastered by Matt Tammariello.
Inner Self - O.E. Outside Experience
Inner Self
O.E. Outside Experience
Tape | 2017 | US | Original (100% Silk)
8,99 €*
Release:2017 / US – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
New York producer Andrew Stefano’s freshest guise reflects the different headspace he was seeking last fall, shifting gears from his ongoing jungle fusion project, Trust Image. O.E. Outside Experience finds him flexing more muted and melancholic shades of broken beat, jazz techno, and high-stepping warehouse hybrids, inspired by notions of internalization and exploration – plus “a lot of Detroit shit.” The seven tracks traverse therapeutic contrasts of rhythm and reflection, solitude and celebration, crisp percussion offset with smeared synths, vaporous texture, and acidic bass. A decade of music making has honed Stefano’s instincts for motion, melody, and atmosphere, which he wields here with a distinct, dynamic touch. The Self speaks. Recorded at his home studio in Brooklyn on a mix of hardware and software in late 2016. Mastered by Matt Tammariello.
Nackt - Virex

Virex
Tape | 2015 | US | Original (100% Silk)
9,99 €*
Release:2015 / US – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Over a decade of Bay Area nightlife and warehouse culture has boiled Johnny Igaz’s production methodology as Nackt down to its rubbery, resinous husk. Virex captures the project in its most stripped and purist form, all live, all hardware, traced in strict acid. The fluid genesis of each track allows for a curvature of mood from fog machine nightstalk (“Full Coat,” “Ford”) to grooved mothership jack (“Black Widow,” “Trash Brothers”), prone to mutation and variance. Outpost party co-founder CM-4 shares much of the writing and production credit, and joins Nackt on stage for live hardware PA performances. A squad of other SF house associates also contribute cameos — Michael Claus (Outpost), Jason Key (Rotation), Doc Sleep (Jacktone)—pitching in on drum patterns, 303, and additional production duties. Both alone and in collaboration, Nackt conjures his own distinct sonic corridor: liquid metal, insectoid, mechanized rubber sculptures strobe-lit above the speaker cabinets.

Wayfaring American producer / DJ Deeper Kenz named his project in homage to the “cinematically intense” Northeast Philly hood where he resided intermittently for nearly eight years. Surrounded by dive bars and decrepit lots, he turned inward and crafted a set of recordings “designed as tools to light up a small but intimate community of dancers and lovers.” The A side skews lean and linear, crisp percussion laced with shaded bass and violet textures, while the flip goes more mirror ball delirium, sweat and heat and disco samples “chained up and grooving to the unceasing rhythms of the big city machine.” Indulge, internalize; motion is meaning. Recorded in Kensington, Philadelphia, 2013-2016.

To commemorate the label’s catalog centennial 100% Silk spread its threads coast to coast and station to station for 11 faded blazers and future classics from a fresh cast of characters spanning Okayama to Berlin, England to Echo Park, Boston to British Columbia. Despite such distances the rhythms run parallel: lithe, low-lit, lush, and lost in sense memory. Sensate Silk swirls 75 minutes of smeared neon house, glitter decadence, skyscraper shuffle, flatliner acid, lovesick loops, mutant pulse, rave reverie, and tactile electronics into an expansive voyage of motion, mood, and meaning. Roster includes: Keita Sano, Cromie, Sage Caswell, Inoue Shirabe, Jack Novin, Donny, Badia, PARC, Helios Mode, Nackt, Westcoast Goddess. Defend the dream; feel the feeling. Mastered by Alex Nagle.

12" | 2016 | US | Original (100% Silk)

Release:2016 / US – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Impressionistic dub-house devotee Hubert Clarke Jr. fluctuates through several deviations of Sydney afterhours circuit specialties on his debut, Al Dente. Alternately wired and unwound, classic and contempo, vibed soul and lean house, the EP threads soft-focus funk into longform live voyages, naturalist emotion, dance as relaxed delirium. The vocal samples evoke a mood of reflective idealism, spirits undiminished, hope in spite of it all. Dusted with memories and reveries of Heavenly, Picnic, and Mad Racket parties, hallucinated Omar-S demos, newer Sex Tags sides, and various nations under a groove, HJC’s 4 originals (plus a remix by Adelaide vibe squad MBM) feel like a beginning, a submerged energy swelling to the surface. Black vinyl 12 inches in stickered sleeves designed by Peta Farago with smiley meatball illustrations by John-Henry Pajak and Geordie Cargill.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
San Fran synth sensei Ben Winans, a.k.a. Roche, ventures further into his arcane hardware labyrinths on Stillhope, his second slab of mind-wired Pacific house for 100% Silk. As always, there’s a great sense of spaciousness and flow, coastal fog billowing around Alcatraz and over Land’s End, invisible currents taking control.“Stillhope” and “The Medicine” skew more toward the hazed and zen, cliffside smoke seances rendered through samplers and circuitry, percussion patterns ghosting under hidden lunar cycles, while “Change” brings back the bass, riding an acid-funked electric slide into a chorus of street soul chanting. Closer “Theme for Ikaros” leaves the Bay (and Earth) behind, a techno spy theme for hijacking a distant moon base, filtered arpeggios ramping the suspense against a steady stalker’s pulse until it all dissolves in dubby echoes, a stark clap and a sample whispering about “the essence of life.” Even in deepest space, there’s Stillhope.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Before birthing his blasted acid house identity, Bobby Draino drummed for various synth-punked groups around Vancouver, and some of that scorched-earth live energy bleeds through the five primordial bangers comprising his vinyl debut Brain Drain. Tracked live through one channel of a space echo straight to his computer, Draino’s overdriven drum machines, fried acid grit, bass damage and blown-tone sequencer patterns are fused into a radical and weird debased mutant house. The EP’s five tracks are the culmination of two years of demo workshopping, TR-606 and 303 autodidacticism and warehouse party spelunks—all savvy tactics for developing a shredding, progressively singular style, which Draino has in spades. Brain Drain is one of the most awesomely wrecked and raw Silk slabs to date from a West Coast wiz worth watching.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Scotland-born Parisian Paradise 100 (a.k.a. DJ Africa, a.k.a. Graham Peel) has been percolating stripped-back, bouncy-castle house constructs onto the web for a few years but never locked them in wax until now. High time. Following his minimalist dictum “more than three tracks on a song is just indulgence,” his debut EP’s four cuts share a sleek, spare design, jigsawing slinky bass, classic keys, lean drum programming and flashes of synth mirage into fluid, aerodynamic patterns. Touches of melodic acid and crossover new wave color the mood an exotic, hedonistic hue (further evinced by titles like “The Loin King” and “French Kissing in the House of Love”). His own vision of the project is appropriately fantastical: “The image in my mind is of tropical forests at night, torchlight, distant sounds of tribal ritual dance and ghosts.” Regal music for pleasure domes.

Melbournian multi-hyphenate LUKE BROWN has his hands in a lot of pots, having dug deep in his DJ duo with Ricardo Ramos, LESLIE SALVADOR, as well as his ongoing death-disco / dark-synth revisionist twosome, NEGATIV MAGICK. But the past few years have found him exploring more classic, scruffed-up analog house terrain via his latest alias LES LEVEL, and his six-track debut is purist uncut club gold. Bookended by a pair of mixes of the stellar neo-Chicago anthem "House of Need," the rest of the tracks prowl through a host of suave, shuffling, Strictly Rhythmic variations, from the 3 AM skyline seducer "Smooth Sailing" to the pumping, jazzy jack-groove "Working Nights." An expert assemblage by a nuanced craftsman with style to burn. Limited edition of 450 copies.

Not Pharaoh-one guy, one MIDI controller-but PHARAOHS, plural: a dance band and magical rarity amid the lorn 'Lesis landscape of solo producers and desktop DJs. Bunkered between an arrangement of stackable synths, the Pharaohs squad jams workshop-style, an endearing, funky, spirited live-thrive. Replicant Moods is one part airy coastal jazz, that Ibeatha-meets-Madchester baggy style the group melted soles with on their first 12-inch Uhh Uhh, and two parts sci-fi soar into the new age, complete with Philip K. Dick winks, tech-know wonks and sleek Daft Punk-choreographed boogies. A MARIA MINERVA guest soft spot on the ESG / Weymouth bass bust "Miraculous Feet" lends another sweet shuffle to the clone conga line of Technics tracks. Replicant Moods is sensual-like a slinky Shakira-bot booty shake-and also considered, a nuanced composition slowly evolving into a compelling layer dip of star-stretching get-down.

House is at home with BOBBY BROWSER, who is Still Browsing after 2012's Just Browsing EP, but these four tracks feel like he's finally splurged on the pleasure-purchase. Never afraid to fuse sad Soul II Soul-isms with flute-floozy Milan model-walk wonders, or blue lipstick, platform dance with classic groove-back ogle-voguing, Browser remains a San Fran late-night-on-Haight-night Latin legend. He's known for DJing gel-gems like "Bad Bad Boys" and other, mostly forgotten, romantic thrift store singles, and as producer he's got the same no-boundaries deep-'preciation for all that can be stirred in his stoopid stew. Howard Jones meets Earth, Wind, and Fire meets N'dea Davenport meets Sade meets Frankie Knuckles but not at all straightforward, and nothing short of silky slip-peeling. Always lovely and light, sleek and chic, Bobby Browser's bought a spot on your yacht. It's going to be a smooth cruise.

Octo Octa adds the melancholy to LA Vampires infinite fadness on Freedom 2K, their reachin'/preachin' 50/50 collaboration on 100% Silk. Here LaVamps has traded her cheap n' chic booty-budget grooves for sleek n' chic haunted house. With lyrical references to Minnie Riperton, Arthur Russell, and Evelyn Champagne King, vocalist Amanda Brown reappropriates realms of romance, skewing them into fresh sonic moods. Her wash n' rinse sing/speak is backed by Nick Malkin's keys-like-skippin'-stones, Britt Brown's Tex-Mix dub-bumps, and Brian Foote's sense and sexpertise, which are all just spit and shine for Octo Octa's moonlit piano naive melodies. Gloss and glow design by aesthetic-elevator Bobby Houlihan, with silver and pink toned drop-of-androgeny photography by Ashley Anthony, will push your candy buttons. Freedom 2K provides dance-or-be-danced-on anthems for the 21st Century, with a diagonal devotion to our generation's gay nineties. "We were living in a fantasy"-George Michael, Freedom 90.
