Limited to 1.000 copies only! This 1967 Yé-Yé debut album is as scarce as gold dust and fetches high prices among collectors if they may score a copy in good condition. Tunisia born Jacqueline did fairly well with her music over the past 50 years and here we witness her more than adequate start into the world of chanson and pop. Her intense brand of fiery late 60s beat refined with tinges of garage rock can be considered as an ear candy for 60s aficionados. Some rather lightweight tunes twang around you like flock of colourful butterflies and could easily have been a great success for the one or another star of the American West Coast pop scene. Melancholic ballads straddle into this chequered round dance and seize your heart. The waking call happens instantly with well placed gruff beat tunes you would not expect from such a tender and angelic young lady. It feels like an innocent girl slipping out of her cocoon and become a proud woman. In the next moment a passionate French chanson drags you back to the opposite side. From well-behaved to cheeky and even charming... And due to the very memorable and substantial compositions this jewel of late 60s pop music is a classic among fans of such greats as ROLLING STONES or The Shocking Blue.

The 12-track coloured vinyl LP format opens with Brunetta’s prized dancefloor-filler ‘Baluba Shake’ and closes with ‘Pà Diglielo A Mà’, a dramatic ballad by big-voiced Nada. The prolific Mina - queen bee of Italy’s female singers - gets two tracks: folk rock nugget ‘No’ and ‘Se Telefonando’, a sophisto-pop epic courtesy of maestro Ennio Morricone. Other highlights include the sitar-embellished ‘Il Mio Posto Qual’È’ by Ornella Vanoni, a convincing cover of ‘Baby Please Don’t Go’ by beat girl Caterina Caselli, the pounding ‘Il Geghegè’ by petite dynamo Rita Pavone and breathy-voiced actress Catherine Spaak’s bossa-imbued ‘La Notte È Fatta Per Rubare’.

Picking up where they left off on the 2007 compilation 'Lost & Found – Rockabilly & Jump Blues', Keb Darge & Cut Chemist join forces once again, this time to explore the wonderful world of 1960s Garage music. While Rockabilly could be defined as a DIY emulation of the music of Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran and others by young American artists, Garage was heavily influenced by British bands of the day like The Beatles, Kinks & Rolling Stones. Simple drum kits, guitars and the occasional organ keep the sound honest and raw, retaining a palpable sense of excitement even to this day. With a multitude of bands springing up all over the USA, many of these wonderful records were released in tiny numbers, making certain titles almost impossible to find.Keb Darge’s love affair with this intriguing genre happened almost by accident, while on the hunt for obscure Northern Soul records. "DJ Shadow told me I would like Garage years ago, but I didn’t listen." Hearing a few records he liked and being assured by collectors that they were classified as ‘Garage’ got him hooked, so for the last years he’s beendigging obsessively for the stuff. Knowing Cut Chemist was a collector, he suggested they collaborate on a compilation, and'The Dark Side' was born. 30 obscure records, some of which change hands for frightening amounts of money, all with wonderful stories attached as told in Keb’s encyclopedic and entertaining liner notes.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1965, The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band was considered by many to be Calfornia's answer to the Velvet Underground. The group created psych/rock music that was both fragile and dreamy. 'Part One' (the band's second LP!) was originally released in 1967 on Frank Sinatra's Reprise Records. Though band leader Bob Markley and his companions didn't achieve the fame or notoriety of other bands from the area, they have nonetheless achieved cult status among collectors. For the first time, this legendary records gets reissued in MONO, with sound from the original master tapes.

Having officially disbanded in late 1967 following a hugely successful career in the UK, The Walker Brothers were persuaded by management to undertake a short tour of Japan together in the opening month of 1968. The songs performed can be described best as a motley collection of numbers from the group’s back catalogue, plus a single strike from Scott and a rag-bag selection of covers. That being said, the results prove to be a thoroughly enjoyable live run through of both the big hits and some of the finest cuts from the Brothers’ four, often underrated, albums together.

A seminal album of the French ye-ye era, Françoise Hardy’s self-titled debut (known in the US as The “Yeh-Yeh” Girl From Paris!) was released shortly after her debut single “Oh Oh Chéri” in 1962. The success of this album, along with its hit “Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles”, made the eighteen-year-old French bombshell a huge star in Europe and an icon of the French fashion and music industries. Along with other ye-ye girls of the sixties, like Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot, France Gall, and Sylvie Vartan, Hardy exuded a kind of sexy innocence that made French women the most liberated and the most desired in the world.

A profile of a rugged Dean Martin by the fireplace with a cigarette adorns the jacket of this very interesting concept album. As Stan Cornyn's liner notes explain, »his longtime accompanist« on piano, Ken Lane, with »three of Hollywood's most thoughtful rhythm men« — those being drummer Irv Cottler, bassist Red Mitchell, and guitarist Barney Kessel — do create a mood, Dean Martin performing as if he were a lounge singer at 1:15 a.m. as the Saturday night crowd is dwindling. His signature tune, "Everybody Loves Somebody“, is here in a laid-back style, produced by Jimmy Bowen, who would go on to produce Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers & the First Edition, and so many others, also the same man who was behind the 1964 No. 1 smash. This album with the original Martin recording was released after the hit single version and on the same day as the "Everybody Loves Somebody“ LP, but how many times does the audience get a different studio reading of a seminal hit record? Not only that, but the version that preceded the hit. The backing is so sparse it is almost a cappella, with Kessel's guitar noodlings and Ken Lane's piano. The bass is mostly invisible, coming in only when needed. It's a slow and sultry version that caps off side one.Martin is just crooning away, and if the album has one drawback, it is that the 12 songs are incessant in their providing the same atmosphere. The backing quartet does not deviate from their job, nor does producer Jimmy Bowen add any technique, other than putting Martin's voice way out in the mix. It sounds as if they tracked the album in one afternoon, and it is not only a very pleasant listening experience, it shows what a tremendous vocalist Dean Martin truly was.Now "Dream With Dean — The Intimate Dean Martin“ is back bigger and better than ever! We've gone the deluxe Analogue Productions route — remastered from the original analog tape by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound, cut at 45 RPM, plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings. Then packaged in deluxe tip-on gatefold jackets from Stoughton Printing. A great title, a brilliant reissue. Exceptional!

The "Beach Boys Today!" was the first LP for which they only delivered a mono master. The stereo editions of "Surfin' USA", "Surfer Girl", "Little Deuce Coupe", "Shut Down" Vol. 2, "All Summer Long", "Beach Boys Christmas Album" and "Beach Boys Concert" were all mixed in stereo by their own preferred engineer, Chuck Britz, ostensibly under the group's supervision.»Brian may or may not have been present for those mixing sessions — evidence suggests that he trusted Chuck's skills enough to let him prepare those mixes on his own — but the group held onto their multitrack tapes and delivered stereo masters to Capitol, rather than allowing Capitol to prepare their own stereo versions. Later, when Brian was only delivering mono masters, Capitol would prepare the Duophonic pseudo stereo editions for the stereo market,« says Alan Boyd, producer and Beach Boys' archivist. The Beach Boys' practice of double-tracking their vocals really lends itself to stereo mixes. Split left and right, as they are on a lot of those early stereo versions, those doubled vocal parts can really envelop the listener, surrounding them with Wilsons, Loves and Jardines! All of the newer stereo mixes on these remastered albums ("The Beach Boys Today!", "Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!)", "The Beach Boys' Party", "Pet Sounds" and "Smiley Smile") were all done by Mark Linett on behalf of the Beach Boys.

Heroes Symphony is a symphony (also known as Symphony No. 4 "Heroes") composed by American composer Philip Glass in 1996 based on the album "Heroes" by David Bowie. Glass also based his earlier Low Symphony [MOVCL009] on the David Bowie album, Low. Heroes was one of David Bowie's most experimental and avant-garde records, so it made sense that Philip Glass would follow the Low Symphony with the "Heroes" Symphony, adapting Bowie and Brian Eno's original, minimalistic synthesized sketches for full orchestra.180g vinyl.

"Little Deuce Coupe" expanded the band's subject matter to encompass 1963 America's burgeoning love affair with hot rods, surrounding previously released cuts such as the title track, "409", and others with strong new material (much of it cowritten by Wilson and a DJ, Roger Christian). A highpoint: the a cappella James Dean tribute "A Young Man Is Gone" (a reworking of Bobby Troup's beautiful "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring"), a prime example of Wilson's arranging genius and the band's vocal prowess. "Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring" had been a standard for the vocal group The Four Freshmen, whose lush and distinctive jazz-based vocal arrangements had a huge influence on Brian's musical development.Apart from "Surfin' Safari", which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. Presented in 'old school' Stoughton tip-on jackets, these time honored favorites shine brighter than the originals! The first "Shut Down" was a hugely successful Capitol Records Various Artists compilation LP that had included a pair of Beach Boys tracks. Whereas their previous album "Little Deuce Coupe" had been a full-on car themed concept album, the Beach Boys' "Shut Down Volume 2" was pretty much evenly split between songs with car themes and various high school and summertime-themed tunes. The album sought to further the Beach Boys beyond its ironic sea-and-sun fetish (none but Dennis Wilson ever surfed) into the burgeoning hot-rod subculture.Apart from "Surfin' Safari", which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. To meet the standards of Analogue Productions, our Beach Boys album reissues had a mission to achieve: Present the band's music the way that Brian Wilson — famed co-founder, songwriter and arranger — intended. Mono mixes created under Wilson’s supervision were how the surf rockin’ California crew rose to fame! And we’ve got ‘em!For the early part of the Beach Boys career, all of their singles were mixed and mastered and released only in the mono format — they didn't release a single in stereo until 1968. In those days, hits were made on AM radio in mono. And the mono of those times worked well for Wilson, who suffers from partial deafness. Still, apart from "Surfin' Safari", which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. The "Beach Boys Today!" was the first LP for which they only delivered a mono master.Bottom line, the mono mixes were where Brian Wilson paid intense attention, and the dedication paid off! We’ve taken 10 of the most classic, best-sounding Beach Boy titles ever and restored them to their mono glory! But there’s no disputing that the close harmonies and one-of-a-kind rhythms of hits like “Surfer Girl”, “In My Room”, “Little Deuce Coupe” and more lend themselves naturally to stereo. So we’ve got your 2-channel needs covered with prime stereo mix versions as well. Mastered by Kevin Gray, most from the original master tapes, and plated and pressed by Quality Record Pressings, the finest LP pressing facility in the world, these are awesome recordings to experience. And the look of each album befits its sonic superiority! Presented in 'old school' Stoughton tip-on jackets, these time honored favorites shine brighter than the originals!"Surfer Girl", the Beach Boys' third album for Capitol Records, was the first produced by Brian Wilson on his own (the previous two, "Surfin Safari" and "Surfin USA" (Mono & Stereo Remasters), were co-produced by the late Capitol A&R man, Nik Venet). This album was The Boys' first really great effort; there's not a bad track in the lot, including the title song, "Catch A Wave", "In My Room", "Hawaii", "Our Car Club", "Little Deuce Coupe", "Your Summer Dream", and more.

If you are curious how Japanese pop music sounded in the early 60s, here is one of the most popular examples. So this reissue will hopefully open new channels for fans of abundantly orchestrated 60s pop to listen to Kyu Sakamoto, who sadly perished in an aircraft accident in 1985, which is up to now the biggest event of its kind in flight history. Anyway, what do we get to hear from this man, very young but already experienced at the time? Mysterious, soulful songs with big orchestral arrangements, tunes that show elements of latin music such as bossa nova, typical elegant Doo Wop and pop ballads of the day with a heartwarming melodies, some exotic tunes that draw influence from what western people might consider Japanese music, real or fictional. The most popular tune that became a hit all over the world is certainly „Sukiyaki“, which was a big success in a German language version by The Blue Diamonds, a Dutch band of Indonesian origin. He did not spare any style popular in the 50s up to the early 60s. You'll hear elements of chanson among many others. The whole album is relaxed and beautiful with a friendly expression. The orchestra, the big band, whoever accompanies Kyu Sakamoto dresses all the compositions sung with passion and a pliable voice into a garment of absolute elegance. This album definitely gets you to feel great and joyful and fluffy. The use of Japanese language for the lyrics might more appeal to native speakers and those with a fondness for exotic aspects coming with albums but it just makes this record even more outstanding. It's a colorful and memorable effort.

This follow-up to our recent “Love Hit Me! Decca Beat Girls” and “Scratch My Back! Pye Beat Girls” releases comprises superior 60s she-pop from the EMI group of record labels – Parlophone, Columbia and HMV – headquartered in Marylebone in the heart of London’s West End.The LP edition is pressed on 180g orange vinyl in a heavy duty sleeve with comprehensive notes and rare photos on the inner bag. Most of the female acts signed by EMI were teenagers completely tuned in to the current pop trends. Scottish duo the McKinleys, R&B club habituée Julie Driscoll (cover star of the vinyl version), talent show winner Billie Davis (the CD cover girl) and Midlands pub singer Beverley Jones took original material from London’s Tin Pan Alley and American covers and gave them an abrasive, vigorous kick that made for fabulous 45s. They may not have had quite the polish of their US counterparts, but the rough’n’ready sound of the Marylebone Beat Girl was precisely her appeal. Among the many highlights are ‘Dancing Yet’, a Dobie Gray-style discotheque number by Liza & the Jet Set; ‘Like The Big Man Said’ by Toni Daly, a cover of Italian star Caterina Caselli’s ‘L’uomo D’oro’ with edgy English lyrics by Peter Callander; and Billie Davis’ groovy gender-switched update of Chuck Willis’ R&B nugget ‘Whatcha’ Gonna Do’. Compilation and notes by Ace Records’ in-house girl-pop buffs Mick Patrick and Sheila Burgel.

To define in a nutshell the music of Harry Nilsson in accordance with his personality can easily become a fiasco. The American singer-songwriter might well share his reputation as a multi-talented eccentric with a number of other musicians. However, his highly unusual style and his »satirical catchy pop songs [composed] with the sparkling eye of a cynic and the tearful eye of a nostalgic« (rororo Rock Lexicon) cannot be pigeonholed. Nilsson packaged derisive lines, spiced with a pinch of self-irony, in suspiciously pleasing yet carefully selected tunes. His cultivated and astonishingly supple voice basked to the full in bittersweet phrases, aided by elaborate, melting, slushy arrangements with strings and winds. Several of the wonderfully fresh numbers from "Aerial Ballet" reached top places in the charts. "Everybody’s Talkin’" became world-famous through its use in the film "Asphalt Cowboy" and brought Nilsson his first Grammy award. The song "One" soared to the top ten of the charts. The other light and airy songs now invite you to create your very own hit list. Every single number makes great listening! This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. All royalties and mechanical rights have been paid.Recording: 1967 and 1968 in RCA Victor's Music Center Of The World, HollywoodProduction: Rick Jarrad

Donovan Philip Leitch may well share a proletarian origin with several of the folk bards of his time. But comparisons with the top dog Dylan have worn thin and are not worth the effort since Donovan never was neither vocally nor thematically brusque – and moreover he created his own standards. He quickly converted the pacifist message of "The Universal Soldier" into positive thoughts and his poetry was concerned with history, sagas, myths and magic. »Lord, kiss me once more, fill me with song« he prays in "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", and if this makes you sentimental then you are on the right wavelength. However, the »seller of hope« (Donovan on Donovan) triggers off a few psychedelic nerve tracts: whether it be a personal experience in echo form ("Sun") or the 'sprechgesang' and whistling of a vocal group ("Little Boy In Corduroy") – light, gentle but perceptibly formed. That Donovan set far more than cheerful texts to the guitar is proven by the use of sawing stationary sound of the organ, low-register string passages and subtle rhythms, which raises his song repertoire miles above routine. A nice 'folksy guy' who merely loves the sun, moon and stars just cannot exist in times of war. This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. Few would argue with Frank Sinatra’s pole position in popular music. From the dark days of World War II to the fall of the Berlin Wall, Sinatra’s voice has always been there as the soundtrack to our lives. Such was his pre-eminence as icon and actor, that Sinatra’s status as a pop star is often overlooked. That omission is rectified here, with the release of The Singles Collection - 42 tracks bookending a decade of Sinatra hits, covering the period 1953-1962. Enjoy this magnificent compilation including "Three Coins In The Fountain", "Sentimental Journey" and "Young At Heart".

Limited edition of 500, lime-green colored seven inch vinyl pressing. The early 1980s saw the Monkees enjoy a big revival in Japan, partly due to "Daydream Believer" being used in a popular national TV ad. Concert promoters were quick to organize solo tours for Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz, who all ended up touring Japan individually. Featured here, and available for the first time ever on this limited edition single, are two of the songs Dolenz performed on his 1982 Tour of Japan - "Sunny Girlfriend" and"Zor And Zam".

Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien OBE (16 April 1939 – 2 March 1999), known professionally as Dusty Springfield, was an English pop singer and record producer whose career extended from the late 1950s to the 1990s. With her distinctive sensual mezzo-soprano sound, she was an important blue-eyed soul singer and at her peak was one of the most successful British female performers, with six top 20 singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 and sixteen on the UK Singles Chart from 1963 to 1989. She is a member of the US Rock and Roll and UK Music Halls of Fame. International polls have named Springfield among the best female rock artists of all time. Her image, supported by a peroxide blonde bouffant hairstyle, evening gowns, and heavy make-up, as well as her flamboyant performances made her an icon of the Swinging Sixties.

By the time this album was released in the US, the ‘princess of pout’ had already had men flocking to her films for than a decade, hoping for a glimpse of BB in a bikini. Her 1963 vocal debut, featuring Serge Gainsbourg’s “L’Appareil A Sous,” not only added to her sultry allure, but also boosted her pop icon status.

The Ace catalogue has traditionally focused on American music. But our compilers have never shied from venturing worldwide in their quest for good sounds, as evident from our popular collections spotlighting the female vocalists of 1960s Japan, France and Italy (not forgetting the UK). Now it’s the turn of Sweden. Our smörgåsbord of Swedish she-pop opens with early solo sides by the lead singers of the nation’s greatest pop music export, ABBA: Agnetha Fältskog with ‘Ge Dej Till Tåls’ (a highlight of her second album) and Anni-Frid Lyngstad with ‘Så Synd Du Måste Gå’ (a song popularised by Françoise Hardy as ‘Comment Te Dire Adieu’). Other featured well-known names include national treasure Lill-Babs with her cover of Dusty Springfield’s ‘Little By Little’ and chart star Mona Wessman with a version of ‘Music To Watch Girls By’. But it wasn’t all cover versions in mid-60s Sweden. Dig, for example, Eleanor Bodel’s title track, ‘Don’t’ by cult favourite Doris (who also appears as lead vocalist of the group Plums), au pair duo Bella & Me’s groovy ‘Help Me Break This Habit’ and Britt Bergström’s Ivy League-penned ‘You Really Have Started Something’. Cherry-picked tracks by the Plommons and cover stars MAK Les Soeurs illustrate the country also produced its fair share of all-girl groups.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme is the third studio album by American music duo Simon & Garfunkel. Produced by Bob Johnston, the album was originally released in October 1966. Following the success of their debut single "The Sound of Silence", Simon & Garfunkel regrouped after a time apart while Columbia issued their second album, a rushed collection titled Sounds of Silence. For their third album, the duo spent almost three months in the studio, for the first time extending a perfectionist nature both in terms of instrumentation and production.
