Mercury Prize and Brit Award winner Arlo Parks first came to the attention of

music press with her debut single ‘Cola’. It’s a breath-taking, tender, poetic

and confessional introduction to an artist just eighteen at the time of its

release.

The then London based singer demonstrated soul beyond her years and with

'Cola' the submissive tones of her powerful voice are laid atop slow guitar

melodies that beckon you to stop what you're doing and just listen. The track

is written about bad love - in Arlo’s words, "Cola is a reminder that betrayal is

inevitable when it comes to pretty people that think flowers fix everything".

‘george’, an ode to poet Byron was released in 2019 just weeks before signing

to Transgressive Records and set Arlo on the path to being one of the most

critically acclaimed artists of the year.

Nina Kraviz returns with a new EP inspired by 70-80s music she loves so much. On "Skyscrapers" she explores a new, more traditional approach to her songwriting. Uncovering her talent as a singer and performer, the song is a melancholic, pop-leaning anthem, showing a side of Nina Kraviz we didn't quite expect.

generation” Arlo Parks released her second track in January 2019.

At the time of release Arlo told Clash Magazine:

Both tracks of this 7” reveal Franco Esse as a refined musician with a reserved personality, an almost minimalist approach to lyric-writing, and a strongly cinematic synth-pop style that is in line with the musical trends of the time and gives a nod to the soundtracks of Fabio Liberatori, falling somewhere in between slow-wave and new-romantic. These two ballads would have been the perfect soundtrack to cold winter nights in the early 80s, with snowflakes floating down on ski slopes, people clad in puffy down jackets, and music pouring into headphones from walkmans kept in back jean pockets.

Woo-hoo! Two of the best Italian rare grooves ever are finally back on 7’’ for the first time since their original French release on the format! Both are from that most iconic film soundtrack of the Italian 70s (the LP is now a holy grail for collectors), Armando Trovajoli’s score to Dino Risi’s anthology sex comedy Sessomatto (1973) starring Laura Antonelli and Giancarlo Giannini. In the title track the influence of Manu Dibango’s afro-funk hit “Soul Makossa” is filtered through, and enriched by, an exquisitely Italian approach, with a sweet ’n’ groovy funk base (the terrific mid-song drum break has been a DJ favorite for decades) over which Edda Dell’Orso seductively laughs and repeats the words ‘sesso’ and ‘matto’ again and again. The wild and fun electronic samba “Kinky Peanuts” on side B is a wonderful example of ‘strange incredible music’, with infectiously quirky Moog themes and runs.

January 20, 2020 saw the surprise release of David Lynch's short What Did Jack Do? on Netflix. If you watched the grainy, police procedural over the last few days, you most likely found yourself saying aloud `who is Jack Cruz and how can I get more of his music?' Sacred Bones is announcing the release of the short's featured original song "True Love's Flame" by the primate star crooner of yesteryear; Jack Cruz. Not much is known about Cruz's career prior to his involvement with Lynch, but fortunately, we have not just one song, but two: 'Dancin' in the World of Love' is the B-side to the short's single_uncovered recently and an excellent example of Cruz's emotional prowess and magical, gold-dipped vocal cords. Both songs were written by Lynch and Dean Hurley with artwork carefully crafted by Lynch himself.

Now sharing a dual cover set - Bob Dylan's `It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' and Nina Simone's `Be My Husband' - she casts a subtler, but no less powerful incantation towards change. The original tracks dating to 1965, a year marked by the Selma marches, the Watts Rebellion, and the landmark Voting Rights Act, illuminate the eerily parallel struggles of this year. Anohni's rendition of `It's All Over Now_' reads as a hopeful, future goodbye to times dominated by oppression. With `Be My Husband," textually woven with marital submission and want for acceptance, she examines our reliance on the very systems that fail us. In borrowing these songs, Anohni adopts their history along with her contemporary interpretations, respecting the lineage of the people's movement while calling for its continuance today. "When Biden said `Americans don't want revolution, they want a return to decency,' he was wrong," she explained. "We all know deep down that the continuation of our civilizations for much longer will require seismic change." On `It's All Over Now, Baby Blue', Anohni explained: "I recorded It's All Over Now, Baby Blue with Kevin Barker one afternoon a few years ago. I listened to it recently and it reminded me of Now, a nausea of nostalgia for the suffering of the present, or even the future. I did a couple of songs by Bob Dylan at that time, encouraged by Hal Willner, the producer who we lost to Covid 19 in April. I hope that this period, and this repugnant presidency, will be over soon, and that these bigots and apocalyptic capitalists and evangelicals will crawl back into their rotten little holes. But how can this happen unless the American media and social media are forced to tell the truth? I am glad to see the mobilization of Black Lives Matter and the re-emergence of the Occupy movement. When Biden said "Americans don't want revolution, they want a return to decency," he was wrong. We all know deep down that the continuation of our civilizations for much longer will require seismic change." On `Be My Husband', Anohni said: "I saw Nina Simone perform at Carnegie Hall in 1991 while I was still in college. The concert was not properly publicized, and the theater was only half full. I think it may have been her first time back in NYC in many years. She was rumored to be volatile and unpredictable. That night she sang and played with such dignity, so incredibly, and she did 5 or 6 encores. For me, she was the greatest musician of the 20th Century. She didn't write many songs, but the ones she wrote were among the most profound of the era. Be My Husband was one such song. The lyrics spin a paradox of romantic assertion and submission. This live version of the song was recorded at an Antony and the Johnsons concert at the Knitting Factory in NYC in 1999."

Japanese folk trio Minmoa succeed where few others have. Inspired by laid back 60’s psych-folk, it’s clear that their sound is indebted to the likes of Fairport Convention and Virgin Insanity, but they stand out by updating that sound, breathing new life into a sound that’s become almost cliche.

Pictured Resort will release the 7-inch "Your Song On The Radio" on Japanese RSD Saturday, April 22.

Pictured Resort is a solo unit of Koji Takagi, whose sound passes through neoacoustic, AOR, city pop, dream pop, and disco. Last July 2022, they released their third and latest album "Once Upon A Season".

The A-side is "Your Song On The Radio," a mellow and sweet pop song with the melodic sense that is the essence of Pictured Resort, and the B-side is a soft 70s-inspired song that was released last year at the end of 2022 and has become a hot topic. The B-side includes "2012," a soft rock tune with a 70's vibe that was released last year at the end of 2022 and became a hot topic.

The cover of the album features a new illustration by Kachinatsumi, who has created many of Pictured Resort's works, and is a perfect example of Pictured Resort's unique style.

‘ooh DO U Fink U R’ is a gloriously sunny, optimistic and defiant Motown and ‘60’s R&B influenced stomper drawing on Suggs and Weller’s upbringing in Britain’s 1970’s comprehensive school system in London and Woking respectively. This picture disc is a Record Store Day 2023 exclusive, following from the sold out limited 7” release from June ’22. Having known each other on-and-off over the last four decades, the seeds of this collaboration emerged in 2019 when Weller joined Suggs on his Radio Four series ‘Love Letters To London’ to talk about an ever changing Soho. As the world subsequently went into lockdown in 2020, the pair started chatting more and more frequently about music, clothes and football, eventually exchanging half finished songs, demos and sketches of lyrics. With its working class aesthetic, Motown influenced stomp, and uplifting brass, it’s an intuitive collaboration that sits neatly as a welcome addition to both men’s great songbooks.

Since her debut in 2003, G.RINA has written lyrics and composed her own music, provided lyrics and music for other artists, produced sound, remixed songs, and DJ'd the latest dance music. In addition to her work as a member of the hip-hop unit Fncy, G.RINA has also released a 7-inch remix of the popular song "Charm" from her solo album "Tolerance," released in 2021. The Island Ver. is a slow-tempo mellow reggae version of the disco-style original, and the Daydream Ver. evokes the current trends of trap and ambient R&B. This is a must-have for analogue fans.

Lisa Halim, a singer-songwriter representing the Japanese surf music scene, and Cunimondo Takiguchi, one of the most important figures in the city pop/city music scene, have collaborated for the first time!! In 2021, the single "Kimi to Blue" produced by Cunimondo Takiguchi was released and became a hit among fans of sea-oriented city pop music, which led to this collaboration with Ryusenkei!! "Love is Jealousy" is an extremely pleasant fusion of Hawaiian AOR and city music. Perfectly matched groove of Ryusenkei's performance and Lisa's gentle vocal.

The 7" includes Original Love's "It's a Wonderful World" featuring Maharajan on vocals and guitar, and a cover of Hiromi Go's "In the Cove". Original Love released this soulful masterpiece in 1994. This is a brilliant cover produced by Yudai Ohi (SANABAGUN.). The B-side is "In the Cove" from Hiromi Go's masterpiece album "super Drive" released in 1979. The mellow groove directly related to City POP composed by Tetsuji Hayashi is brilliantly interpreted in the 2020s!

The A-side "Velvel Motel" (written by Takashi Matsumoto / produced by Eiichi Ohtaki) was a part of the long-seller masterpiece album "Long Vacation" by Eiichi Ohtaki, originally released in 1981. The B-side "Komugiiro No Mermaid" (written by Takashi Matsumoto / produced by Karuho Kureda a.k.a Yumi Matsutoya) is Seiko Matsuda's 10th single, originally released in 1982. Born in Tokyo in 1973 and raised in Kyoto. He made his debut in 1997 as the singer and main songwriter of the band Nona Reeves, which he formed while as a student at Waseda University. Since then, he has been involved in many productions and artists as a music producer, songwriter and composer. As an "80's music researcher," he has written official liner notes for Michael Jackson, Prince, and others, and many of his books have become bestsellers.

Stefan Schwander aka A Rocket IN DUB has been producing electronic music in Düsseldorf since the mid-1990s. He releases under a variety of pseudonyms such as Antonelli, Repeat Orchestra, Rhythm Maker, Harmonious Thelonious and While My Sequencer Gently Weeps. His music draws influences from techno, disco music (especially Giorgio Moroder), new wave, dub, abstract electronica and African music. In 2002, he released "Rocket No. 3", an old-school dub house classic with a distinctive vocoder voice. 20 years later, he has re-recorded the track together with JAN Delay on vocals. Both musicians share a great passion for dub music. Jan's great voice is just as distinctive as the vocoder 20 years ago and adds a touch of humanity to the original. The collaboration is released as a limited 7" single with artwork by Hendrik Krawen.
