“I’m grateful for the abundance of good that there is in the world and I feel privileged to experience it every day.” These words, from the liner notes of Ernesto Cervini’s new Turboprop album, Abundance, describe the feeling and purpose behind the Canadian drummer’s new release.

Gratitude is on full display, as Cervini again features all of his band members as instrumentalists, featured soloists and composer/arrangers in this gorgeous collection of 8 songs. As Cervini states, “although I am the band-leader, Turboprop truly feels like a collective due to the passion, commitment, and love everybody brings to each performance.”

Following the critical success and JUNO nomination of the group’s sophomore release, Rev, this album cleverly mixes three standards (including an incredible new arrangement of pianist Geoff Keezer's tour de force solo performance of Harold Arlen's My Shining Hour) and original material written by the band, including 2 by Cervini himself. Those 2 originals are both dedications: Gramps, for Cervini’s late grandfather; and Song for Cito - that’s Cito Gaston, the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays’ back to back World Series winning teams from the early 1990’s.

On the heels of his studio album “Little Black Bird” (Anzic), Ernesto Cervini takes his band on the road for a tour across Canada. The album was recorded over two sold-out performances at Cory Weeds’ Cellar Jazz Club in Vancouver, and features this strong ensemble at its very lively best. Cervini continues to “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” (Downbeat) in a program of originals by himself and his band mates (Joel Frahm on Sax, Farrugia on Piano and Loomis on Bass), as well as a stellar inventive treatment of the standard Secret Love.

An intimate and lyrical duo recording by Saxophonist Yuval Cohen (3 Cohens) and Pianist Shai Maestro (Avishai Cohen - Bass). The two virtuosos explore the delicate beauty of sensitive chamber playing in a program of standards and originals. There are plenty of fragile moments of splendor, and strong emotional statements in this simple, yet powerful musical statement.

Sure-footed swing, sweet-toned harmony and ever-insouciant charm are embodied in the new jazz vocal trio Duchess, featuring notable New York singers Amy Cervini, Hilary Gardner and Melissa Stylianou. The group’s debut album – Duchess, channels the 1930s inspiration of the virtuosic Boswell Sisters into a wonderfully entertaining and contemporary package. Produced and arranged by Oded Lev-Ari, who helmed previous acclaimed Anzic releases by Cervini and Stylianou, Duchess pairs the vocal trio with an ace New York band: pianist Michael Cabe, bassist Paul Sikivie and drummer Matt Wilson, plus saxophonist Jeff Lederer and guitarist Jessie Lewis. The songs of Duchess range from the Peggy Lee number “I Love Being Here With You” and Johnny Mercer’s “P.S. I Love You” to new twists on “Que Sera, Sera” and the indelible standard “I’ll Be Seeing You.” There’s a playful Gershwin rarity with “Blah, Blah, Blah” and a direct Boswell Sisters homage with their arrangement of “Heebie Jeebies.” And there are solo spots for each of the Duchess ladies with “My Brooklyn Love Song” (Gardner), “A Doodlin’ Song” (Cervini) and “Humming to Myself” (Stylianou). A blend of the vintage and the fresh, Duchess is a fizzing cocktail of an album.

Innovative and electrifying, Toronto jazz drummer Ernesto Cervini has energy to burn, whether radiating it from behind his kit or working on any number of musical and educational projects. Turboprop features Cervini’s regular quartet with Joel Frahm on Tenor Saxophone, Adrean Farrugia on Piano, Dan Loomis on Bass and Cervini on Drums, and adds Tara Davidson on Alto Saxophone and William Carn on Trombone. The band's sound is reminiscent to the hard swinging Jazz Messenger bands of Art Blakey, although they tackle a wide range of music from Charlie Parker to Claude Debussy to Radiohead, as well as originals from all the band members.

There was an era in American popular culture when pop music was something completely different than what it has become today; when an outstanding instrumentalist could be a pop star no less than a vocalist; when even headlining singers were expected to be complete musicians and instrumentalists were expected to be entertainers.

YO! BOBBY is evidence that this performance ethic hasn’t entirely been lost to time. The members of the band revel in the joy that comes from the combination of jazz, showmanship and the Great American Songbook. The band lineup includes saxophonists Anat Cohen and Joel Frahm, trumpeter Avishai Cohen, keyboardists Jason Lindner and Manuel Valera, who share duties on various keyboards (piano and Wurlitzer electric piano), bassist Barak Mori and drummer Daniel Freedman. Scott Robinson (Baritone Sax) and Vic Juris (Guitar) make guest appearances
