B12 - Time Tourist Black Vinyl Edition
Time Tourist Black Vinyl Edition
2LP | 2018 | UK | Original (Warp)
25,99 €*
Release:2018 / UK – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Warp travel back to the lost futures of 1996 with this first-ever reissue of Time Tourist, the second album from the pioneering ambient techno producers B12.

Housed in an evocative Designer’s Republic sleeve based on a classic Trevor Webb airbrush painting, the sleevenotes of Time Tourist elude to the project as soundtracking a dystopian future society that’s looking back at the primitive past, evident from its strong references to Blade Runner, Philip K. Dick and Star Wars.

Each track on Time Tourist continues the outer edge excavations that made B12’s debut album, the Detroit inspired science fiction of Electro-Soma (album 4 in Warp's Artificial Intelligence series) such a mind-warping experience, yet the concepts here are arguably stronger with the album originally made as an educational soundtrack designed by the 22nd-century company “B12 Systems”.

Upon its original release, Time Tourist looked further out than most of B12’s AI peers to the outer space narratives that played such important role within the origins of techno that were built within the late 80's and early 90's landscape of Detroit. As such, they reached levels of science fiction escapism that few others have.

As a cultural document, Time Tourist is an evocative reminder of a time when electronic music really did hold the keys to the future. Yet with this newly reissued edition, we'd say there has never been a better time to take a tour of B12’s truly, timeless techno.

UK techno founders B12 return! The duo's history famously started in the early 90's with their music appearing under a plethora of monikers under the "B12 Records" umbrella - 12" vinyl with notorious cryptic messages engraved in the run-out grooves, before being collected into album form and release on Warp. After a hiatus in the late 90's, the pair resurfaced briefly for some live shows, a flurry of hugely sought-after 12"s and a 7-part CD anthology. They then abruptly disappeared again - this is their first appearance in 5 years, fittingly on Glaswegian imprint Soma. (Their seminal Warp Records album was named Electro there a connection?) The Bokide 325 EP Is it a planet to be explored, or the journey through a personal hell? Only a few know for sure but at the end of this voyage expressed in the best way B12 know how, layers of sounds, beats, synths, lush pads, and seductive melodies the hope of a whole new reality is reached. It conjures up foreboding, planetary soundscapes - rooted in the more ambient, filmic side of their output, is it a reflection of recent turmoil within/ the artists personal lives? The EP opens with "Into the Void", whose simple but emotive synth line weaves its way across a variety of beats and sounds, and takes the listener into the depths where the true journey can commence. Onwards, darker and more mysterious notes loom up throughout "Descension" and "Unsound Mind", with pounding bass throbbing underneath, leading further into the world of shadows where the alarming awareness that something isn't quite right never truly leaves you. It concludes with Terra Incognita, the final track of the EP - an unknown place, left to be discovered and completed by the listener.
B12 - BrokenUnBroken

Release:2016 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
FireScope Records is the new sub label of the legendary B12 Records. A label core to the UK techno scene with roots starting in the early 90’s launched by Michael Golding and Steven Rutter. FireScope Records is here to exist in conjunction with B12 Records and with the same ethos, quality music, quality packaging, without compromise and a product that will stand the test of time. FireScope will diversify somewhat, not just deep meaningful techno, but also techno with vocals, real songs with real meaning.

The first release is by B12, UK techno at its finest. Established early 90’s with a multitude of releases appearing on Warp Records UK, B12 Records, Soma Records, Delsin Records, ART

B12 became active again in 2015 with the Soma release “Bokide 325” and the Delsin release “Orbiting Souls” and this year on DeTuned “Transient Life”

The EP entitled BrokenUnBroken: A moody down tempo risky start for a first release on a new label, however its enigmatic beauty, sounds, artwork and themes make it the only natural choice.

“In Pieces” is enough to tear at the heart strings, it is an emotion loaded audio picture of sadness and despair. The producer conveys these feelings with a disturbingly natural ease and is an indication of a mental state he makes no secret of sharing. Sublime pads weave over subtle beats and crashes until joined by a hypnotic bassline.

“Over !Hear!” is an old school vibe featuring a fetal doppler recording. Warm pads and bassline presents familiarity and rolls along conjuring up a safe place to be.

“Battle Within” is a slow track there is no real drive forward but a multitude of entwined sounds and shapes that represent a whole piece. A piece constantly pulled out of shape. With a dual meaning originally inspired by the producers visit to a war torn city. An attempt to put into music almost from a child like perspective the mixed emotions and confusion that are felt when suffering.

“There Is No Escape” is a Sci Fi dub style track. A driving break inspired beat and drooling bassline are joined by a constant abstract dialogue. Escape from where ? Escape from oneself ?
