Afro and Rock: now that’s a pretty good combination any day of the week chez LoveLee but in the masterful hands of John Cameron (founder of ace Brit Prog outfit CCS, composer of the cult sound tracks to Kes and Psycomania, and musical arranger for the likes of Donovan, Hot Chocolate, Heatwave and David Essex) and Alan Parker (erm, he wrote the theme to Angels. Note to Alan – ask John who made his website for him) the juxtaposition of these two words kicks up a boat load more breaks and funky atmospherics than can safely be navigated up the Zambezi, with or without Audrey Hepburn A quick word of warning; if you’re the kind of crate digger who’s heart misses a beat at phrases like “repetitive forceful riffs” and “aggressive Afro rhythms” you had better pre-book an ambulance before slipping this baby in to your compact disc player and dealing with the ensuing onslaught of nasty wah wah guitars, fiery conga work outs, heavy harps (really), spacey electric piano, far out flutes and lots and lots of drums. Tim “Love” Lee.

First ever reissue of the sought after album FOURTH SENSATION, originally released in 1970. The band was formed by Ares Tavolazzi (I Giganti, Area) - who later was an active session musician as well as being a leading figure in the Italian jazz scene, accompanying Gil Evans, Steve Lacy, Max Roach, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Enrico Rava, Stefano Bollani, Franco D'Andrea and many others - on guitar, Ellade Bandini on drums, keyboardist Vince Tempera - who, a few years later formed the progressive supergroup Il Volo with Mario Lavezzi and Alberto Radius and, in the late '70s, composed a myriad of memorable TV and Cartoon themes - and Angelo Vaggi on bass.Musically, the project is precisely within the context of the year it was released, which coincided in Italy with the decline of the Beat and the advent of the Underground and Psychedelic movements; in the Italian scene it inaugurated a trend of records of this type such as The Underground Set (1970), Blue Phantom "Distortions" (1971), Psycheground Group (1971), Chimenti “Droga" (1972) and others, still objects of worship by collectors worldwide. The composers of the songs are known to Library Music lovers, namely they are Stefano Torossi, Giuliano Sorgini, Massimo Catalano and Sandro Brugnolini. Musically it is undeniable the technical skill of the 4 interpreters in the 10 tracks here, all curiously titled with the names of women, they are alternately a mix of acid blues, soul jazz, funk and psychedelia, with the Hammond organ of Tempera in the foreground.

Limited edition for Record Store Day 2017!Fred Lincoln ‘Link’ Wray, Jr. (1929-2005) born of Shawnee Native American parents was an American rock and roll guitarist, songwriter and vocalist who became popular in the late 1950s. Though he began in country music, his musical style went on to consist primarily of rock and roll, rockabilly and instrumental rock. Building on the distorted electric guitar sound of early records, his 1958 instrumental hit "Rumble" (banned in New York and Boston for fear it would incite teenage gang violence) popularized "the power chord” which laid the foundation to modern rock music.Link’s previous releases had proven the man's versatility with influences coming from many different genres including R&B, country, blues, and, of course, rock. ‘Be What You Want To’ continues this trend: a thick stew of boogie-rock, country-funk and Americana with lots of soul.Wray employed a huge number of musicians to play on ‘Be What You Want To’, including Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia, Thomas Jefferson Kaye & Commander Cody. Of course, the main part of the talent comes from Link Wray himself. His amazing ability as lyricist, songwriter, and musician is noticeably brought to the fore on this album.Originally released on Polydor, this is the first time the album gets the vinyl treatment since 1973. Now available as a gorgeously packaged deluxe vinyl edition, exclusively for Record Store Day 2017.

Im Sogwasser des im Frühjahr 2016 veröffentlichten Albums "Know Where To Run" schiebt Barry Adamsoneine sechs Songs fassende EP hinterher.

Bluesman. Sharecropper. Church deacon. Civil Rights activist. Hayes McMullan should be a name on every Blues aficionados’ short-list and thanks to the preservation fieldwork carried out by one of the genre’s greatest researchers some 50 years ago – it might soon be.Born in 1902, Hayes McMullan was discovered by the renowned American roots scholar, collector and documentarian Gayle Dean Wardlow. Wardlow, author of the seminal blues anthology „Chasin' That Devil Music“ - Searching for the Blues, may be most famous for uncovering Robert Johnson's death certificate in 1968, finally revealing clues to the bluesman’s mysterious and much disputed demise. Moreover, in his tireless and committed mission to preserve the Blues for future generations, he captured McMullan’s raw talent on tape and on paper. Wardlow recorded these sessions, transcribed the songs and now, writes the sleeve-notes for this landmark release.Wardlow and McMullan met by chance on one of the former’s record-hunting trips, in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, in 1967. Having introduced himself to McMullan on a hunch, it turned out this unassuming elderly man had not only heard of Wardlow’s idol, Charley Patton, but had played alongside him in the 1920s, as part of a brief musical journey that took him from the plantation to the open roads and juke joints of the Depression-era South. Striking up a friendship that was deemed unorthodox in 1960’s Mississippi, Wardlow traveled to McMullan’s sharecropper’s shack and convinced him to play guitar for the first time since he quit the Blues for the Church in the 30’s. “Hayes was playing like no one I had ever heard,” Wardlow writes with amazement.Wardlow visited McMullan on a handful of occasions, always taking his recorder, a guitar and some whiskey with him. It was during these visits that Wardlow captured – with surprising clarity – the songs that make up Everyday Seem Like Murder Here.Hayes McMullan passed away at the age of 84 in 1986, his talent and legacy largely unknown. “Reflecting now on our brief time together, I marvel at the small glimpse of something much larger I was lucky to have captured,” writes Wardlow. “The few old snapshots I took, the handful of tunes we recorded, and his brilliant performance of “Hurry Sundown” captured on film are all that’s left of the musical legacy of Hayes McMullan, sharecropper, deacon, and—unbeknownst to so many for so long—reluctant bluesman.”All tracks are previously unreleased except track #3. All audio got remastered from original tapesThis 2LP is housed in a beautiful deluxe gatefold Stoughton tip-on jacket and comes with liner notes by blues historians Gayle Dean Wardlow & John Miller and unseen photos.

“Super Super Blues Band” started out merely as “Super Blues”, a conglomerate of blues pillars Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters and Little Walter. When Little Walter bowed out and was replaced by Howlin’ Wolf, they rightfully threw another Super on the name, and went on to release this burning, irreverent and even sometimes hilarious set of drunken, wild-eyed electric blues. Long form jams roll on in a trance as the trio of blues legends flex egos, talking shit to each other, trading off leads and ducking blasts of unexpected wah-wah guitar lines. Songs are peppered with an incredible level of banter between the trio of bandleaders that predicts the call and response sing- talking of early hip hop, laced with random screams in the background that teeter between celebration and danger. That these three ever got into the same room together is a miracle, and that they produced something so intense, energetic and weird is another almost unbelievable feat. The record is special enough as a stand-alone document of this meeting/melting of the minds before you find out the backing band consists of Hubert Sumlin, Otis Spann and freaking Buddy Guy. Lordy. Might have needed one more “super” in there. The record is pressed on limited colored vinyl.

Sam 'Lightnin’' Hopkins, a true poet who invented most of his lyrics on the spot and never seemed to run out of new ideas, was a blues giant of post-war blues whose style was rooted in pre-war Texas traditions. While he cranked up his amp to fierce proportions when performing for his friends at Houston juke joints, producers who recorded him for the so-called folk-blues market usually insisted that he use an acoustic guitar for more 'authentic' results. Either way, Lightnin’ seldom made a bad record, and this June 4, 1963, session on which he played acoustic was among his finest, thanks much to the sensitive support of bassist Leonard Gaskin and drummer Herbie Lovelle, who did a remarkable job of following his irregular bar patterns and abrupt song endings.

There are a handful of landmark albums in any genre. In the blues, one of them is Muddy Waters' "Folk Singer". Originally released in 1964, "Folk Singer" was the only acoustic album Waters ever recorded, thus becoming the first and perhaps best blues concept album ever. Muddy of course started out playing acoustic blues in the Delta, and he's clearly very comfortable in this return to his roots, which was designed to appeal to the mid-1960s surge of interest in folk music.Muddy's supporting cast includes a very young Buddy Guy on guitar, Willie Dixon at the upright bass and Clifton James on drums. This recording has enormous presence with ample room for Muddy's booming voice to resonate.

On their first full-length Limboos sharpen and expand on the sound defined on their single debut. That release presented a mixture of R&B and Latin rhythms, aptly described as "exotic Rhythm and Blues", which continues to prevail here. However, these twelve songs stretch out into deeper territory, including old school New Orleans second line, or gutbucket '50s Texas Blues ('Rockin'') combined with Cuban rhythms (the title track) or Brazilian Cumbia ('Brownie'). All beautifully thrown into a blender, making it the national cocktail of a place you would damn sure want to live, if that place even existed.

A beautiful example of the precursor to the mass-recording era, this limited 7” pressing of blues legend Son House provides a rare glimpse into real American folk music. Before every facet of our musical world was commodified and marketable, working people’s lives were predominately narrated by song, the central nerve center of consciousness, history & culture. Haunted by slavery, segregation and racial hatred, black communities of the South nurtured the blues into existence from a deep psychic pain that demanded an especially rigorous cultural processing, using song as a positive affirmation of existence and power. These prototypical recordings of Son House’s weathered, sorrowful blues standards, sung without instrumentation, are two of the most stunning examples of the urgent imperative of early blues music. Tinged with a tangible sadness and the knowledge of a veritable sage, these songs testify to the cathartic power of a music created for far more than the decadent superficialities of modern industrial societies, providing a historical document of the foundations of so much American music to follow and suggesting that the infinite possibilities provided by technology have not expanded on the basic purpose of music and artistic expression.

Songwriter. Guitarist. Singer. Bandleader. At only 20 years of age, Marcus King’s dazzling musical ability is evident throughout The Marcus King Band, the young phenom’s 2nd full-length LP. Raised in Greenville, South Carolina, King was brought up on the blues, playing shows as a pre-teen sideman with his father—bluesman Marvin King, who himself was the son of a regionally-known guitarist—before striking out on his own. Operating within the fiery brand of American roots music that King calls "soul-influenced psychedelic southern rock," the album highlights King’s gorgeous, rough-hewn vocals, soaring guitar work and heartfelt songwriting all amidst a group of masterful musicians who, together, are quickly becoming one of the country’s most sought after live acts.

With his astonishingly accomplished guitar playing, Stevie Ray Vaughan ignited the blues revival of the '80s. Vaughan drew equally from bluesmen like Albert King, Otis Rush and Hubert Sumlin and rock 'n' roll players like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, as well as the stray jazz guitarist like Kenny Burrell, developing a uniquely eclectic and fiery style that sounded like no other guitarist, regardless of genre. The "Sky Is Crying" was released after SRV's 1990 helicopter crash that took his life. The posthumously assembled 10-track outtakes collection actually proves to be one of Vaughan's most consistent albums, rivaling "In Step" as the best outside of the Greatest Hits collection. These songs were recorded in sessions spanning from 1984's "Couldn't Stand The Weather" to 1989's "In Step" and were left off of the LPs for whatever reason (or, in the case of "Soul To Soul's" "Empty Arms", a different version was used). What makes the record work is its eclectic diversity — Vaughan plays slide guitar on "Boot Hill" and acoustic on "Life By The Drop"; he smokes on the slow blues of "May I Have A Talk With You" and the title track just as much as on the up-tempo Lonnie Mack cover, "Wham"; and he shows the jazzy side of his playing on Hendrix's "Little Wing" and Kenny Burrell's "Chitlins Con Carne".»Check out Vaughan's jazz chops on Kenny Burrell's "Chitlins Con Carne", and Hendrix's "Little Wing", arguably this collection's most staggering achievement, alternately whisper-sweet and screamingly fierce«, says The Absolute Sound. Other tips of the hat are to Muddy Waters, Lonnie Mack ("Wham"), Elmore James, and Albert King (the title track), yet each song is pure, unleashed SRV. The sound is big, bold, up front, and clean as a whistle. Vaughan's different tonal shadings — from warmly purring, to raggedly distorted, to wasp-tailed sting, plus a rare acoustic turn on the gorgeous closer, "Life By The Drop" — are all superbly captured, and the drums and bass have plenty of clarity and wallop. As TAS says, »A brilliant musical document … if a sad reminder.«As we did with our vaunted box set reissues, "Texas Hurricane", again Analogue Productions is bringing you the finest-sounding Stevie Ray Vaughan collections ever preserved on 200-gram vinyl. Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound cut the lacquers for the LPs using the ultimate VMS 80 cutting lathe. Gary Salstrom handled the plating and the vinyl was pressed of course at Quality Record Pressings. There's not a link in this chain that wasn't absolute first-rate. The absolute best that money can buy. We're passionate about the blues and Stevie Ray and the passion shows up here in spades.

There was an unknown, hardworking 24-year-old gunslinger named Little Stevie Vaughan, learning his craft the hard way in the trenches of the Austin Texas clubs, trying his darndest to get out of the shadow of his famous older brother Jimmie. It wouldn't be long.Anyone lucky enough to have been in the audience at this early live show, on April Fools Day in 1980, could have told you that. Young Stevie Vaughan (he had yet to become Stevie Ray) blasted the hometown crowd with a style that was already very well-formed. With Chris Layton on drums and bassist Jackie Newhouse (Tommy Shannon would join up a year later), his basic sound was already in place, albeit still in need of some polishing.Taken from the surviving two-track master, Vaughan's guitar is raw and in your face every note of the way. His takes on Freddie King's "In The Open" and the lengthy "Tin Pan Alley" are the real highlights here.As we did with our vaunted box set reissues, "Texas Hurricane", again Analogue Productions is bringing you the finest-sounding Stevie Ray Vaughan collections ever preserved on 200-gram vinyl. John E. Tinsley was born in 1920 in Chestnut Mountain, Virginia and later moved to Henry County in an area just outside of Martinsville. According to the liner notes of Smithsonian Folkways Compilation Virginia Traditions: West Piedmont Blues, which featured two John Tinsley recordings, Tinsley began playing guitar at the age of 15, at the behest of his neighbor. He would go on to be influenced by other Piedmont and East Coast bluesmen such as Blind Boy Fuller, Josh White and Buddy Moss. However, it wasn't until 1952 that Tinsley and friend, Fred Holland, first recorded any of Tinsley's repertoire. Bassett, Virginia's Mutual Records released “Truble Blues” and “Keep Your Hands Off Her” as a 78 that year. Following the poor sales of the “Truble Blues” 78, a discouraged Tinsley briefly left the world of secular music behind, playing religious music exclusively in the mid-1950s and 60s. Yet, flash forward to 1978 to find Tinsley recording the session featured on this reissue of “Country Blues Roots Revived” for the primarily Bluegrass label Outlet Recordings, accompanied on most cuts by his son William on piano and J.P. Young on harmonica. This recording has not been available since the 70s and is a rarity treasured by lovers of the Piedmont blues style. This co-release by Manufactured Recordings and Steady Sounds also includes his lone 78 release on Mutual as a Bonus 7”.

Harvey Mandel is among the most innovative guitarists to emerge from the Chicago blues scene of the late 1960s. His career began at Twist City and other local hotspots, sharing stages with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Buddy Guy. He came up in that scene alongside Charlie Musselwhite, Mike Bloomfield, Barry Goldberg and Steve Miller, leading to an invitation from Bill Graham to open for Cream at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium in August 1967. Mandel was a member of Canned Heat, appearing with them at Woodstock. He played on numerous John Mayall albums, and on the Rolling Stones' 1975 LP Black and Blue ("Hot Stuff", "Memory Motel"), having auditioned for Mick Taylor's job, which ultimately went to Ron Wood. Known for his "tapping" technique and sinewy, sustain-driven phrasing (thus his nickname, "The Snake"), Mandel's solo albums such as Cristo Redentor, Baby Batter and Righteous have been sampled and drooled over by guitar geeks, DJ's, and fans of funky, soulful, otherworldly composition. Harvey's fifteenth studio LP and his first widely distributed album in 20 years, Snake Pit was recorded in two days at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA. Harvey teamed with fellow Chicago-based musicians Ben Boye (keys), Ryan Jewell (drums), Brian Sulpizio (guitar), and Anton Hatwich (bass), who have all played with singer/songwriter Ryley Walker, among their many other musical pursuits. Harvey and the band had not met previously, nor had they rehearsed. He played snippets of song ideas for the band on his iPhone, and then they would lay down a track in one or two takes. Hard to believe when you hear the album, but that's exactly how it went down. Minimal overdubs with strings and percussion were added, but mostly what you hear is what happened spontaneously in the studio. The album contains six new original compositions by Mandel and two revisited songs : "Baby Batter" from his 1971 Janus LP of the same name, and "Before Six" by Larry Frazier, which appears on his first album, Cristo Redentor. Snake Pit marks a spirited return in a career that now spans six decades -- all the more intense and poignant given Harvey's recent battle with cancer.

Sonthaya Kalasin was the male lead singer in in the molam section of legendary producer/impresario Surin Paksiri's beloved musical troupe Tidso Lam Phloen; his female counterpart was Phairin Phonphibun. These recordings, the very best of Kalasin's work with Paksiri, cover the period from the mid-70s to the early 80s and showcase Kalasin's mastery of the traditional male molam lower vocal range. Also highlighted here are Paksiri's production skills and his penchant for pushing the boundaries of standard molam arrangements and instrumentation, always trying to fuse new ideas with tradition. An uncredited Phairin Phonphibun makes an appearance on a few tracks here, giving lucky listeners a glimpse of the singers' Tidso Lam Phloen dynamism: Paksiri's genius, a long-standing backing band, and simpatico vocal styles honed in the crucible of performance. This is the first CD release of any music from Sonthaya's years with Surin Paksiri and as such represent a valuable document, with accompanying English lyric translations; but more than a document, "Grade A Guy" is grade A music.

The self-titled album was recorded in a makeshift motel room studio in the winter of 1969, and self-released in a micro-edition in 1970. This folk-rock gem must be counted among the earliest self-produced "private press" LPs. With its stripped-down production, and basement tapes atmosphere, Bill Jerpe's album offers listeners an unvarnished glimpse into the Hudson River Valley's vibrant music scene in 1970. Top shelf DIY psych folk for fans of Late '60's Dylan, The Band, Jackson Frank, and F.J. McMahon's "Spirit Of The Golden Juice". Virtually unheard for 45 years, this first-ever vinyl reissue is long overdue. All material got re-mastered from original LP and pressed to 180-gram vinyl. The records are housed in a heavyweight gatefold jacket featuring liner notes by guitarist Bart Barbour and also song lyrics. This limited edition of 500 includes a digital download code.
