2LP | 2019 | EU | Original (Strut)

Release:2019 / EU – Original
Genre:Organic Grooves
As part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations, Strut present the first new volume in their pioneering ‘Nigeria 70’ series for over 8 years, bringing together rare highlife, Afro-funk and juju from the ‘70s and early ‘80s. Compiled by collector and DJ Duncan Brooker, this new selection of tracks is receiving its first international release outside of Nigeria.

The compilation returns to a fertile heyday in Nigerian music when established styles like highlife and juju became infused with elements of Western jazz, soul and funk and musicians brought a proud new message post-independence. Brooker places the spotlight particularly on some of the incredible Ukwuani musicians from the Delta State region as guitarist Rogana Ottah and Steady Arobby’s International Brothers Band forged their own fluid brand of highlife and soulman Don Bruce drew on the US R&B greats for a series of great albums and explosive stage shows at his residency at Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

Elsewhere, the album explores the close connection between Nigeria and Benin’s music, most famously through Sir Victor Uwaifo, appearing here with a killer mid‘80s ekassa jam, as well as highlife hitmaker Osayamore Joseph on ‘Obonogbozu’ (Joseph made headlines in Nigeria for very different reasons in 2017, surviving a one month kidnapping ordeal).

Other tracks include ‘Sickness’ a 1979 lament on how all countries share troubles by Prince Nico Mbarga, the Nigerian / Camerounian star behind the smash hit ‘Sweet Mother’; reggae singer Felixson Ngasia switches to funk and disco for a heavy workout with potent lyrics around black identity; another major highlife great Etubom Rex Williams unleashes a punchy psych funk gem with ‘Psychedelic Shoes’ and Africa 70 member Pax Nicholas vocals a simmering Afrobeat groove from Jacob Lee’s Saxon Lee & The Shadows International Band.

Georgia-born Blind Willie McTell defies all definitions of the prototype blues musician from the 1920s and 1930s. Unlike his contemporaries, McTell performed in various musical styles, including blues, ragtime, religious songs and hokum. He mastered the 12-string guitar with a unique and fluid, syncopated fingerstyle and superb slide technique, and maintained a smooth, laid-back tenor which distinguished him from the harsher sounding Delta singers. As such, McTell was able to model his approach while performing for a diverse audience of all races, whether on the streets or in a venue. An itinerant musician after leaving home, Blind Willie was discovered by an A&R man for prominent blues labels Okeh and Victor Records, and brought to Atlanta to record two sessions. One of these sessions produced what would become his signature song: “Statesboro Blues”, which has been widely celebrated and covered by the likes of the Allman Brothers, Taj Mahal, and the Youngbloods, and was inducted into the National Recording Registry for cultural significance in 2016. McTell continued to record and perform throughout Atlanta utilizing a variety of aliases throughout the 1920s and 1950s. He was interviewed for the Library of Congress by famed musicologist and folklorist John Lomax in 1940, and after decades with little commercial success, would pass in 1959. Since his death his influence has been felt and his songs covered across a slew of artists, from Bob Dylan to Ry Cooder to the White Stripes.

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes and Pressed on MoFi SuperVinyl: Texas Flood UD1S 180g 45RPM 2LP Box Set Is the Ultimate Version of Stevie Ray Vaughan's 1983 Debut. Lavish Packaging Includes Opulent Box, Foil-Stamped Jackets, and MoFi SuperVinyl LPs: Deluxe Audiophile Pressing Strictly Limited to 7,000 Numbered Copies. The Mesmerizing Arrival of a Guitar God: Texas Flood Features White-Hot Passion, Sparks-Flying Blues, and the Uptempo Hits "Pride and Joy" and "Love Struck Baby". Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble's Texas Flood announces the arrival of a truly special talent – namely, the last major blues guitarist to emerge with a voice all his own, an immediately distinctive style, and a soulfulness you feel inside the depths of your existence. Not for nothing is Vaughan frequently mentioned in the same breath as his closest musical cousin, Jimi Hendrix, and ranked the 12th Greatest Guitarist in history by Rolling Stone. This 1983 debut started it all. Strictly limited to 7,000 numbered copies and pressed on MoFi SuperVinyl at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's ultra-hi-fi UltraDisc One-Step collector's edition 180g 45RPM 2LP box set brings Vaughan and Co. into your listening room and places them at your feet. You'll enjoy deep-black backgrounds, pointillist details, staggering dynamics, and arguably, the most lifelike tonalities and nuances ever committed to vinyl. Experienced via UD1S, Vaughan's scrunched-up face, closed-eyes appearance, quick-draw fingers, and cowboy hat into pristine focus. More importantly, the searing tones from his Fender Stratocaster and every touch of his pick on the strings are captured with extreme delicacy. You won't miss a note. The soundstage is deep and wide, and the microdynamics pop. This is the closest you will ever come to hearing Vaughan perform in Antone's, circa 1982.

The lavish packaging and beautiful presentation of Mobile Fidelity's Texas Flood UD1S pressing befit its extremely select status. Housed in a deluxe box, this UD1S version contains special foil-stamped jackets and faithful-to-the-original graphics that illuminate the splendor of the recording. No expense has been spared. Aurally and visually, this reissue exists a curatorial artifact meant to be preserved, poured over, touched, and examined. It is made for discerning listeners that prize sound quality and creativity, and who desire to fully immerse themselves in the art – and everything involved with the album, from the images to the textures.

Born of hot, sweaty bars and years of woodshedding in front of demanding crowds, Texas Flood is rooted in Austin's rich musical heritage – as well as Vaughan's tenure in Paul Ray & the Cobras, recipient of the "Best Band" award in the city's first-ever music poll. After getting his feet underneath him, Vaughan formed Triple Threat, the ensemble that morphed into Double Trouble, with which he'd perform with for the remainder of his career. Having evolved from a quintet to a trio, extra demands were placed on Vaughan's role and playing – requirements he was more than comfortable to accommodate. The evidence is scattered throughout Texas Flood, which single-handedly resuscitated a long-dormant genre. Spending more than half a year on the Billboard charts, the record pays homage to influences (Hendrix, Albert King, Larry Davis) and ripples with a freshness that joins contemporary Texas blues and muscular rock at the hip. Vaughan's playing prizes emotion and pace, whether he's lighting it up on the jumpy "Love Struck Baby" or bursting with enthusiasm on the sparks-shooting "Pride and Joy." The trio proves equally mesmerizing on slow numbers, with covers of Howlin' Wolf's "Tell Me" and Davis' "Texas Flood" weeping with longing. And as if to insure his name is etched in history, Vaughan takes a jazzy stroll with the instrumental tribute "Lenny," covering all the bases in less than 40 minutes. On par with anything recorded by Eric Clapton, Paul Butterfield, John Mayall, Johnny Winter, and the like, Texas Flood remains legion.

More About Mobile Fidelity UltraDisc One-Step and Why It Is Superior

Instead of utilizing the industry-standard three-step lacquer process, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's new UltraDisc One-Step (UD1S) uses only one step, bypassing two processes of generational loss. While three-step processing is designed for optimum yield and efficiency, UD1S is created for the ultimate in sound quality. Just as Mobile Fidelity pioneered the UHQR (Ultra High-Quality Record) with JVC in the 1980s, UD1S again represents another state-of-the-art advance in the record-manufacturing process. MFSL engineers begin with the original master tapes and meticulously cut a set of lacquers. These lacquers are used to create a very fragile, pristine UD1S stamper called a "convert." Delicate "converts" are then formed into the actual record stampers, producing a final product that literally and figuratively brings you closer to the music. By skipping the additional steps of pulling another positive and an additional negative, as done in the three-step process used in standard pressings, UD1S produces a final LP with the lowest noise floor possible today. The removal of the additional two steps of generational loss in the plating process reveals tremendous amounts of extra musical detail and dynamics, which are otherwise lost due to the standard copying process. The exclusive nature of these very limited pressings guarantees that every UD1S pressing serves as an immaculate replica of the lacquer sourced directly from the original master tape. Every conceivable aspect of vinyl production is optimized to produce the most perfect record album available today.

MoFi SuperVinyl: The World’s Quietest Surfaces and Cleanest Grooves

MoFi SuperVinyl is a new proprietary compound developed by NEOTECH and RTI to address two specific areas of improvement: noise floor reduction and enhanced groove definition. The vinyl composition features a new carbonless dye (hold the disc up to the light and see) and produces the world’s quietest surfaces. This high-definition formula also allows for the creation of cleaner grooves that are indistinguishable from the original lacquer. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab feels MoFi SuperVinyl provides the closest approximation of what we hear in the mastering lab.

The impact of “The King Of The Delta Blues Singers” Robert Johnson's combined intense vocals, outstanding guitar skills and songwriting talent introduced a musical and lyrical vocabulary that formed the foundation of modern blues and blues rock that influenced generations of musicians including Muddy Waters, Elmore James, The Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton who is quoted as saying: “Robert Johnson to me is the most important blues musician who ever lived.” Born in Hazlehurt, Mississippi in 1911, Robert Johnson’s major ambition as a youth was to master the guitar, idolizing contemporaries such as Son House and Willie Brown. His abilities were deemed inadequate at the time, and he was discouraged from continuing to perform. Driven by the negative response, Johnson disappeared for a year or two, only to return a master of the Mississippi Delta blues style, surpassing his peers in craft, technique, and vocal expression. (The legend goes that Johnson received this skill via a Faustian crossroads pact with Satan to sell his soul for guitar acumen.) Robert Johnson quickly acquired a growing reputation, earning him a recording contract with ARC/Vocalion. On November 23, 1936 Johnson recorded his first session that included his only popular release “Terraplane Blues” which took cues from popular, and similarly risqué works by Blind Boy Fuller and Bo Carter. It sold only 5,000 copies, enough to encourage ARC to release 11 additional 78s with limited impact. “Terraplane Blues” backed with “Kind Hearted Woman Blues” was released in March of 1937. After various other recording sessions for Vocalion, Johnson would spend the last year of his life on the road traveling and performing with contemporaries like Howlin’ Wolf and Elmore James, before his untimely death in 1939, due to strychnine poisoning.

It's that time again. The skies are calling and its time to board our trusty jet for the 5th outing of Africa Seven's premiere class compilation Africa Airways. For volume 5 its time to brace yourselves for 10 slices of Afro boogie goodness.

We up the boogie time groove with The Black Bells Group (the first band of lead singer Sidney 'Patrick Duteil' who went on to become the godfather of French hip-hop and a well know TV presenter. Here the groove is swinging... the perfect opener. Next up is German-based Cameroonian musician and cousin of Manu Dibango, Charly Kingson with this bass-synth boogie stomper. Big brass and jazzy trumpets add layers of sparkle too.

Next its time for some highlife inspired boogie from Ghanian Gyedu Blay Amboley. Highlife fused with reggae, disco, boogie and jazz just as the lyrics say.

Next we pair up with Africa Seven friend Eko once more under his Dikalo guise. The Cameroonian master musician is on fine form with his heavy brass and deep percussion with a driving afro boogie groove. To round off Side A its off to Cameroon again to groove with Jean 'Mekongo President'. Think Bernard 'Chic' Edwards on the bass with some African style and you can see it's the bottom end groove and afrobeat drums that power this gem along.

We open the second side slowly and purposefully with the highly sought after 'French Girl' from Fotso. Drippy bass synth grooves and a wondrous percussion and drum shuffle pair with piano riffs to make this a unique sounding track. Our friend Tala AM is next with the foot-stomping 'Sugar Lump'. JK Mandengue is next with most definitely the catchiest chorus you will hear today. Nigerian Jide Obe gets synth and clavinet rich with his doe to sensible dating advice 'Too Young'. We close off the album with a track from label good friend Jo Bisso under his Mulamba guise. Sounding like a long lost TV theme from a late night TV show circa 1977. Let's get down and boogie with the brand new dance in town folks... the Dashiki.

Until Volume Six takes flight it is time to unbuckle those seat belts folks.

Though her late career was marred by addiction and personal issues, and her chipper voice had grown raspy and hardened by the years and the pain, Lady Sings The Blues has come to be regarded as one of the finest albums of her career, despite a lack of critical enthusiasm at the time. Originally released in 1956, concurrently with her autobiography, Holiday was joined for these sessions by tenor saxophonist Paul Quinichette, trumpeters Charlie Shavers and Harry Edison, pianist Wynton Kelly, and guitarists Kenny Burrell and Barney Kessel. A beautiful, smoky, and slow-burning piece of jazz vocal history. Essential.

Recorded at Sam Phillips’ Memphis Recording Service at the recommendation of Ike Turner in July 1951, this incredibly influential single is the first ever 7'' from legendary bluesman Howlin’ Wolf. Interestingly enough, the A-side ''How Many More Years'' was cited by T. Bone Burnett as ''in some ways...the first rock and roll song''. The single was later referenced by British blues pioneers Led Zeppelin, both in the title and in Plant’s vocals, on their debut album track ''How Many More Years.'' The B-side ''Moaning at Midnight'' is as heavy as it gets, described by Phillips as ''the most different record I ever heard.''

Blues pianist Eddie Boyd’s 7936 South Rhodes was recorded in London
in January 1968 with three members of the early line-up of Fleetwood Mac:
Peter Green (guitar), John McVie (bass), and Mick Fleetwood (drums). It’s a
tantalizing setting for Boyd’s straight up Chicago piano Blues, going heavier on
the slow-to-mid-tempo numbers than the high-spirited ones.
During the Sixties’ Blues revival, Boyd toured Europe with Buddy Guy’s band,
and he toured and recorded with Fleetwood Mac and John Mayall and the
Bluesbreakers. Tired of the racial discrimination he experienced in the United
States, he first moved to Belgium where he recorded with Dutch Blues band
Cuby & The Blizzards. Boyd died in 1994 in Helsinki, Finland, just a few months
before Eric Clapton released the chart-topping blues album, From The Cradle
that included Boyd’s “Five Long Years” and “Third Degree”.

Son House was one of the most influential delta blues
singers and was famous for his emotional style of signing
and slide guitar playing. Father of Folk Blues presented
him to the public during the 60s folk revival. The roughness
of his voice and intensity of the metal sounds from his
guitar are prominent on the album. Nine tracks which can
be considered as gems and all telling the story of a hard
working man and the intrigues of life. The blues comes
alive in subjects as women, religion, war and crime. The
album features guitarist and harmonica player Al Wilson,
a founding member of Canned Heat. This release is an
original 1965 re-issue.
During his early 20s Son House turned to the blues after
working as a preacher and pastor. He developed his own
unique playing style, full of emotional layers and rhythmic
melodies. During the American folk music revival he began
performing for young audiences and became known as
the Father of Folk Blues.

Analog Africa's 9th release of their Limited Edition Serie. A fantastic dancefloor, summer cocktail of Highlife, Funk and synths in a 4 Track-LP from the ghanaian bandleader Gyedu-Blay Ambolley.

Prepare yourself for new directions in Afro-funk. During the 1980s, ghanaian bandleader Gyedu-Blay Ambolley began to experiment with electronic instruments, and the result was a potent cocktail of highlife, funk, exploratory synths and righteous vocals, the sound of a restless genius intent on pushing the traditional sounds of highlife into a brave new future. On July 20 Analog Africa will release a album containing four of Ambolley’s hardest-driving excursions to the outer limits of eighties funk.

By the end of the 1970s, Ambolley was already a legendary figure on the ghanaian music scene. A drummer, turned guitarist, turned bassist, turned lead vocalist, he rose to prominence during the late 1960s, serving with countryman Ebo Taylor in the Stargazers and the Uhuru Dance Band before launching his own career with ‘Simigwa-do’, the 1972 hit that propelled him to West African stardom. As a founding member of the Apagya Show Band and the Complex Soundz, he stretched the boundaries of highlife with electric instruments, funky rhythms and socially charged lyrics in Fante and English.

If he had retired in 1978, Ambolley’s place in the history of ghanaian music would have been secure. Instead, he dissolved the Complex Soundz and embraced the synthesizer. With a new band, Zantoda Mak III, he recorded ‘The Message’, a seven minute funk workout built on a highlife foundation, and decorated with shimmering synths. Recorded in 1980, the song became a hit that would change the direction of Ambolley’s music: over the next decade, electronic instruments played a much larger role in his sonic experiments.

‘The Message’ receives a long overdue re-release on this album along with three other peaks from Ambolley’s eighties output. The futuristic funk of ‘Akoko Ba’ strips down the rhythm, raises the intensity of the vocals, and adds a dose of serpentine saxophone. On the B-side, ‘Simigwa Soca’ sets classic highlife horns against an unshakable bass groove, while the incredible ‘Burkina Faso’ is Ghana’s great lost electro-funk gem, a sleek construction of robotic bass, call-and-response vocals, and fat stabs of slippery synth.

Difficult, if not impossible to find for decades, Analog Africa is proud to make Gyedu-Blay Ambolley’s extraordinary eighties recordings available to a wider audience.

A favorite off the recommended list by The Absolute Sound magazine, and, as expressed in the liner notes, Harry Belafonte's favorite recording. Belafonte has never before sung on records as he does in this album. He is freer, more earthy, more exultantly identified with his material than ever before. He has always communicated an often ferocious power as well as lyrical sensitivity, but in this collection he achieves a unity of emotional strength in and understanding of his material that marks an important stage in his evolution as an artist.
Includes classic songs "Cotton Fields", "God Bless' The Child", "Hallelujah I Love Her So". Recorded in New York City in January and March 1958, and in Hollywood, California, in June 1958.
As the liner notes by Nat Hentoff state, there is not much to say about the individual performances that is not entirely clear on hearing them. Truly a classic for discerning audiophiles, "Belafonte Sings The Blues" was the first Belafonte album recorded in stereo. The sound is incredible, and the dead-silent backgrounds of QRP 200-gram vinyl preserve every exquisite detail! This is one of Belafonte's most satisfying set of performances.

This album features many of his best known songs including "Candy Man Blues", "Salty Dog", "Spike Driver Blues", "Louis Collins", "Spanish Fandango" and "Avalon Blues." Mississippi John accompanies his gentle, mellow singing with acoustic guitar and, on one tune, harmonica.

Recorded in 1963 at the peak of the folk revival, Muddy Waters entered the studio to record an all-acoustic set. Known for his distinctive electric blues style this recording was definitely a departure for Waters, but the results are historically great. A beautiful album from start to finish, featuring the great Buddy Guy on guitar, and Willie Dixon on bass (he also produced the album), this has come to be known as one of Waters' best albums. A great piece of acoustic blues from one of the legends of the genre.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe is often referred to as "the godmother of rock and roll" for her pioneering guitar technique, use of distortion/reverb, and a 1963 UK tour with Muddy Waters that has been cited as a huge influence by Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and Jeff Beck. Though she reached more widespread notoriety across the world in the '50s and '60s thanks to the folk/blues revival and her beloved status among UK blues and rock musicians, it's her early recordings from the late '30s and early-mid '40s that are the most brilliant, visceral, and emotional of her career. This excellent collection compiles 18 of those amazing gospel and R&B sides into one place. Essential.

Blind Lemon Jefferson, “The Father of Texas Blues,” was the best-selling male blues
artist of the 1920's, recording 92 sides for Paramount Records and one released 78 for
Okeh Records: “Black Snake Moan / Matchbox Blues”.
Jefferson produced an original, driving, unpredictably advanced guitar style and
a distinctive booming high-pitched, two-octave voice that no one could imitate.
Legends of his prowess as a bluesman abounded among the musicians who heard
him, and sightings of Jefferson in different regions of the United States were plentiful.
B.B. King stated, “His touch is different from anybody on the guitar—still is. He was
majestic and played just a regular little six-string guitar with a little round hole. It was
unbelievable to hear him play. And the way he played with his rhythm patterns, he was
way before his time, in my opinion. Blind Lemon was my idol.”
A special Schwarzer Freitag Record Store Day 2018 offering of Blind Lemon Jefferson’s 1927 Okeh recording
of “Black Snake Moan” / “Matchbox Blues” is reproduced on the original label with an
Okeh sleeve as a 10-inch 78 RPM microgroove single.

Lightnin' (The Blues Of Lightnin' Hopkins) was originally released in 1960. Featuring, as usual, his brilliant acoustic guitar work, Hopkins is accompanied here by a low key rhythm section of acoustic bass and mostly brushed drumming. The results of this minimal sound is some of the purest and most engaging blues music of the early 1960s. Though Hopkins had been recording blues and R&B for labels like Modern and Aladdin for over a decade, it was not until the folk revival firmly implanted itself into America's psyche that he crossed over to a larger audience. This is one of Hopkins earliest albums following his breakout onto the national stage and it's one of his finest performances of all-time.

Though released in 1959, The House Of The Blues collects John Lee Hooker’s early 1950s shellac singles for the legendary Chicago blues label Chess Records. Born sometime in the 1910s or early 1920s in rural Mississippi, Hooker moved to Detroit in 1943 to work at the Ford Motor Company and soon began frequenting the city’s blues clubs. Hooker recorded for many labels throughout the 1950s but it was with Chess that he cut his most memorable and famous sides. This album is the beginning of that fruitful relationship and features simply Hooker’s beautiful blues vocals, raw guitar playing, and foot stomping to keep the beat. There’s no more raw and real blues than right here on this here LP!

Fresh Nigerian synth-funk from Burkina Faso, recorded sometime between the late '70s and early '80s. These groovy dancing sounds, killer keys and slow burners will kill you softly. Pierre Sandwidi stands as one of the finest Voltaic artists from the 1970s. He belonged to an unsung elite of Francophone artists such as Francis Bebey, G.G. Vickey, Amédée Pierre, André-Marie Tala, Pierre Tchana or Mamo Lagbema. His entire released output consists of less than ten 7 inches, two LPs and a bunch of cassettes. A man from the provinces, he always favored social engagement and carefully crafted lyrics over instant fame. His words and music challenged General Lamizana's dreary presidency, which ruled the country from 1966 to 1980.

As a continuing collaboration with Chess Records/Universal Records and the estate of Muddy Waters, Third Man Records is proud to announce the reissue of Muddy Waters' fifth studio album Electric Mud.

Electric Mud, which Chess originally released in 1968 has not seen a legitimate domestic vinyl release since 2002, despite its enormous influence on generations of blues rockers. It features members of Rotary Connection as Muddy's backing band and was very controversial upon its release for its fusion of electric blues with psychedelic elements. The album is now recognized as a forward-thinking classic, sampled extensively by artists like The Black Keys and Gorillaz.

Originally recorded as the sequel to Muddy Waters' and Willie Dixon's 1954 hit Hootchie Cootchie Man and simultaneously as the response to Bo Diddley's 1955 groover I'm A Man, the A-side Manish Boy itself has since become a blues standard, covered by anyone from Erykah Badu to The Band. This song is a staple in the Chicago blues subgenre and also served as a particularly important inspiration for loads of young British musicians, leading up to what would become the British Invasion of the 1960s.

Notably, this is the only recording not featuring frequent collaborator Little Walter on harmonica (but was one of the few recordings with Junior Wells) during what was arguably Waters' most fruitful creative period for single blues hits. The swelling, adoring screams of women during the chorus makes this the ideal version. The B-side Young Fashioned Ways was written by friend and bandmate Willie Dixon and is another essential collaboration between the two pillars of the Chicago blues scene. Great title too!

Danny Offia’s Funk With Me is a prime slab of Nigerian Boogie. Sinewy and urbane, it’s the soundtrack of Lagos in the early eighties. The city was awash with oil money, clubs were booming and every night was a party night – the perfect place for a man with a great voice, a white suit and seductively-clutched packet of B&H Golds. Funk With Me was recorded in London with a crack team of session musicians. Drummer Blair Cunningham was from Memphis and had played with Robert Johnson. Sax player Ray Carless was regarded as the London jazz scene’s best-kept secret. Engineer Duncan Bridgeman would go on to work with Duran Duran. Danny Offia brought the songs and the Lagos attitude. ‘Funk With Me’ is a certified party starter. ’10 Years In Love’ and ‘Weak For You’ are sophisticated groovers. ‘Sat Nite (Is A Party Nite)’ is guaranteed to get any girl on the dancefloor, while ‘Don’t Make Me Cry’ is smooth enough take her home. Funk With Me is Lagos in an album – cosmopolitan, sexy and witty with an energy and spirit, all of its own. - Peter Moore

Having almost single-handedly resurrected the blues movement via his Hendrix-esque guitar work, powerful vocals and perfectly crafted songs, the trials and tribulations of Stevie Ray Vaughan are well documented. Despite his premature passing, recordings such as the one included on this LP help to keep the Stevie Ray Vaughan flame alive. Taken from a radio broadcast aired by WMMR FM, of a show performed at the Mann Music Centre in Philadelphia on 30th June 1987, this set clearly demonstrates why the legend of Stevie Ray and Double Trouble has been so enduring. Touring seven months after the release of his then last album, Live Alive - a live album which Vaughan himself was admittedly dissatisfied with due to its poor recording, lacklustre playing and countless overdubs – this show finds the band on absolute top form. In addition, this is almost certainly the finest quality live audio recording available by this quite extraordinary performer.

Music is signed by the great guitar players and composers Angelo Baroncini and Bruno Battisti D'Amario, unmissable guitar man of Maestro Ennio Morricone. CRAZY early Fuzz beats with fast Western swings, Experimental Rock distractions, musical rhythmic movements with totally insane acid guitar & sitar riffs and a huge Underground Psychedelic mood. A truly inspired and deep session recorded for some impossible TV synchronisation purpose. Holy grail alert and original sleazy STEREO recording restored sound.
