Drawing inspiration from the "Action Direct" expanded guitar performances of Masayuki Takayanagi, Fusinato places the guitar at the centre of his work. A few crudely played strings provide the impetus for a long chain of electronics which obliterate the original signal and leaves us with a hyper-kinetic wall of full frequency spectrum noise. Like the piano in David Tudor early 1960's performances of Cage's Variations II, in Fusinato's work, the guitar is the object of a dialectic of simultaneous adulation and annihilation. This LP presents 5 pieces demonstrating various possibilities of Fusinato's current interface between the guitar and electronics, from rapid-fire cut-ups that mimic the dynamics of classic musique concrète, to slowly building mass projections, in which layers of sound gradually rise to the surface, tussling for space at the top until they reach a near unbearable density. Presented mostly in crisp and detailed fidelity, one piece exploits the recording potential of the iPhone to achieve a harsh room-tone reminiscent of the works of Fusinato's comrade Bruce Russell. L'Origine/TEMA is Fusinato's most advanced work to date, moving beyond the startling juxtapositions of sound and silence found on his Spring Press LP to reach new dynamic complexities, new ambiguities between indeterminacy and intention, new relations between instrumental performance and its effacement. () Francis Plagne. Mastering: Casey Rice. Edition of 300 copies.

Paal Nilssen-Love, battery of total limb annihilation. Massimo Pupillo, low-end bowel chainsaw. Lasse Marhaug, electronic torture devices. "[...] Two sides of some excellent free improvised noise music. Loud, vicious and unrelentness. And curiously: it doesn't sound like good ol' industrial music, but more like good ol' free jazz from a very noise end of the spectrum. Think Borbetomagus but then without the saxophone and lots of drums. An ear cleansing exercise. Excellent." () Frans de Waard, Vital Weekly

Its that we know that Bocian Records is from Poland, but if we would just look at the roster of artists they release, it could seem that they are from Australia. Here we have two more musicians from down under, James Rushford and Joe Talia, who have collaborated before with Jon Rose and Oren Ambarchi. Armed with a whole bunch of instruments they recorded their work in different places (Melbourne and Rotterdam, The Netherlands).

Resistance recorded live in 2013 is an expected performance of unforeseen music. That said, it boosts Vandermark's stock (not that he needs it) as a soloist. He has, of late, stepped out of his role as composer, arranger, and organizer of ensembles to perform solo and in improvising duos with Nate Wooley, Agustí Fernandez, Mats Gustafsson, and Tim Daisy. Freed from all the duties associated with large ensembles, he can focus on improvising. Here his saxophone and various clarinets weave, bounce, and at times, collide with Lonberg-Holm's cello and electronics. The music here, all improvised, fills a gap in both their discographies, and it was a long time coming

Much time has passed since the release of "Can't Illumination" in 2003, and Anna Zaradny and Burkhard Stangl meet yet again, now on each side of a vinyl record on the Bocian Records label. There were, however, many various encounters in various circumstances in between those two official events, and one of them is shown in the photos on the cover. This is hardly a chance meeting as the two compositions have more in common than it might seem at first sight. Take the misguiding beginnings, for instance. Zaradny's "Octopus" leads off with sounds that might seem to be either of electronic origin or laboriously selected vocal samples. Incidentally, a choral work by Anna, if she ever writes one, might make quite an intriguing listen. Stangl's "Crédit" opens ambiguously too, as it makes you wonder if it might not be a cover of one of the pieces off Neil Young's soundtrack to Jim Jarmusch's "Dead Man" movie. But this is not about games and tricks. That this is in fact a more serious affair is proved when you listen more carefully to its complex rhythm structure. In Stangl's piece, elongated guitar lines and noises are countered with abrupt regular knocks. Zaradny's polyrhythms can be oppressive enough for you to feel almost relieved with the arrival of a less complicated section, which by the way is reminiscent of the latest efforts from Byetone.

The record is an attempt to document a sound installation by Konrad Smole ski presented in at the Polish Pavillion at the 55th Venice Biennale 2013. The sound sculpture is based primarily on the manipulation of the tolling of a bell. Through the process of transforming this familiar tone of traditional bells, Smole ski also changes its meaning: a sound that evokes a variety of associations is given an abstract frequency that seems devoid of connotations. Not only does the artist free the sound from its source by recording it in real time and then processing it, but he also resorts to the use of delay and reverberation. As a result, the enormous speakers retransmit the acoustic waves that accumulate, providing the broadcast sound with a force that affects all persons and objects in its vicinity. It appears that the acoustic signal can move the molecules of both animate and inanimate objects with an equal force.About music: The two tracks represent two different approaches to the composition. Micha Kupicz prepared a mix of the recording of the installation that rather focuses on the overall atmosphere of the piece than represents it. It is an intensive composition that punctuates the ascending qualities of the sound sculpture. A work of music on its own terms, this studio mix also reworks a piece, which spatializes the mixing board, thus Smole ski's work is taken by Kupicz into another level. The second is a recording of a performance by Mats Gustafsson on baritone saxophone. The sound of the saxophone became another instrument taking part in the process. Thus the procedure allows Gustafsson to improvise with the sounds that were recorded just a moment before. The juxtaposition of the fiery and dynamic improvisation and a preprogrammed minimal composition recreates the tension present at the venue. Limited edition of 400.

Zeitkratzer releasing songs ? Isn't zeitkratzer a contemporary music group ? Or a noise band ? Songs ? These songs actually have been developed over several years and evolved from a fashion show zeitkratzer was making the music for. Marc Weiser a.k.a. rechenzentrum, since then a member of zeitkratzer, sings. Marc has already caused some furore as Mark Markowitch, singing fake songs in fake languages in some hidden Berlin bars. So now all of those together: zeitkratzer's noise, zeitkratzer's unfathomable electro-like sound layers and Mark's voice, flying above, croaking, reciting, disappearing inside the noise, singing the falsetto or just floating on a repetitive prepared piano loop... What a beautiful goodbye to Pop - back to the real song, the real air, with orchestral density and minimalistic sound layers: Songs ! zeitkratzer directed by Reinhold Friedl. Marc Weiser (voice), Burkhard Schlothauer (violin), Anton Lukoszevieze (violoncello), Ulrich Phillipp doublebass), Frank Gratkowski (reeds), Hild Sofie Tafjord (french horn), Hilary Jeffery (trombone), Reinhold Friedl (piano), Christian Lillinger (drums, percussion).

Jérôme Noetinger is an improviser and composer of electroacoustic music based in Rives (near Grenoble), France. He plays Revox, tapes and radio. SEC_ is the moniker of Mimmo Napolitano, an electronic musician and sound engineer from Naples, Italy. He plays Revox, no-input feedback, laptop, electronic devices. Together these two play the kind of improvised electronic mayhem that put Europe on the map. Testcoda features two separate recordings of shapeshifting electronics. One side recorded at Oblomova, Napoli (Italy) on 12.04 2011, the other at Le102, Grenoble (France) on 07.12.2011. All recordings were then edited and mixed by SEC_ and mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi. "Surfing the entire sonic palette, these two titans of the mid-electronic age have the kind of rapport that comes with the best improvised music. Overlapping gestures and inter-twining sonic debris results in the kind of playful extremity that is impossible to ignore. No gear worship here, just the glory of free electronic sound, 21st Century style. A staggering display of reconstructed utopia". (-) Mark Harwood

As fans of the music will recognize, this is inevitably a hard-hitting group. The unabashed energy of Rempis and Nilssen-Love, coupled with the electrified cello antics of Lonberg-Holm, make for a powerful listening experience that combines driving grooves with noisy textures and occasional melodic interjections. These sliding and overlapping rhythms often give the music a feeling as if a rug is slowly being pulled out from underneath the listener while the music still maintains a strong forward momentum. Reference points include the Julius Hemphill groups of the 70's and 80's featuring Abdul Wadud, Ornette Coleman's Prime Time, and the early 70's explorations of Miles Davis' electric bands."

Recorded, mixed, edited at Pathetic Bubble Studio 2009-2012. Source material for Repetitive Algae recorded in 2007. Spectral editing and time domain consultation on Repetitive Algae by Russell Haswell. "[...] The two side long pieces here seem to be two different sides of the same coin. 'Rediki' is a piece of electronics, loud at times, swirling-beating-oscillating most of the times and piercing right through your ears, without mercy, but it's also, at the same time, not y'r typical noise record. The deep end has a menacing/treating/oppressing sound that adds a lot of tension to the piece. Here is where the true power of the piece lies, and what sets the great composer aside from those who try their hands at noise. But alright it's a noise indeed, and for me the really great/even better piece of music is on the other side, 'Reptitive Algae', which seems to me all acoustic, and perhaps if not all, then at least for a greater part. Maybe it's here where Drumm got the idea for the title of the record. One side is crowded with buzzing and ringing of tones and on the other it's just crowded with sounds. Multi-layered with tons and tons (it seems) of acoustic sounds, rubbing against each other. Sound source: unknown. There is a bit of electronica in there, but don't ask me how this works. Well, perhaps I could guess: lots of loops of different lengths playing at the same time, so that they hardly make the same connection very soon again. Music with a great deal of tension, like a horror movie soundtrack. The graveyard shakes and all the bodies rise like one man, rattling their cages. This record is reminder I should play some Kevin Drumm soon again." (-) Frans de Waard, Vital Weekly.
