Nerve Collect co-founder Gamma Intel follows up label partner Identified Patient's inaugural release with his thrilling E.M. EP. Across six club-ready cuts, the Dutchman explores the spaces where bass, techno, electro and acid all intersect.

Laurens van de Werken is Gamma Intel, a project that has roamed through a number of different worlds since debuting in 2017. From early outings of chugging techno and dark wave on brokntoys to more inventive rhythmic explorations and futuristic sound designs on Pinkman via deconstructed jungle on Mechatronica, it is impossible to define what he does. What unifies it, though, is his ability to twist and contort sound in surprising new ways. For proof, listen to him spread his sonic wings on Rotterdam’s Operator Radio, or play at some of the hidden underground gems around Europe that deal only in forward-thinking sounds and you will get more insight into his love of leftfield electronics. It's the same story with the Elektrostaat collective he is part of: they host musically adventurous club nights in Rotterdam that offer a different take on electro, acid and techno. It's best to forget handy genre tags, though, because as this EP proves Gamma Intel is always on the move.

'Little Mirror Man' opens up with an elastic but thumping broken beat. A flurry of jungle drums rain down next to scratched metal stabs, bleep-techno melodies and all underpinned with heavy bass rumbles. 'Save Pair of Hands' doesn't let up, with knick-snapping hits and earth-shattering bass weight. As heavy as the groove might be, there is still plenty of room for deft synth designs to bring plenty of emotion. On '5am-sbm' you are tugged in many directions at once - nimble drums dart about beneath prickly percussion and flaming hits that have a mind of their own. Although the low end is distorted, the details up top are well-defined and given plenty of space to make their mark.

The flipside takes off on turbocharged techno-electro fusion 'Sleep & Cry.' It's a devastating and visceral drum track that also packs an emotional punch as celestial chords suspend you at the doors of heaven. 'Panthera Leo' soundtracks the end of the world as acid lashes about amidst controlled but unrelenting drum chaos and finally, the drilling bass and frantic drum programming of 'Trust' is another all-powerful club track. Its dark energy sucks you in for a white-knuckle ride to remember.

This EP finds Gamma Intel pulling off plenty of unusual tricks and twists on his way to conquering the dance floor.

"The whole idea of an artist album of drum and bass music was pretty rare at that time and it was really a total gamble to put a whole years worth of songs together into one release but both Ed and Optical felt it was the right thing to do and that the music all felt right as a journey through what they were trying to create.

Recorded between 1997 and 1998, the album was released on the16th November 1998 on Virus Recordings, in vinyl and CD formats
The CD edition was a double disc, the second disc containing an hour-long continuous mix while the LP was a five-disc boxset, with a single track per side

The recordings were produced and mixed in Optical's custom built studio, based in Rob Playford's Moving Shadow offices, St Anne's Court, SOHO, London
The final mastering was done by Stuart Hawkes at Metropolis Studios in Chiswick, London.

Arriving on Cheeky Sneakers and bringing the essence of UK rave with him is UK based producer Ravetrx who deliver four huge cuts of breakbeat, jungle and trance-licked hardcore for the masses. 'Run 'N' Hide' begins with fairly familiar territory for the producer. Sitting somewhere between techno, breaks and speed garage, this peak-time warper is a sure-fire party starter, before 'Show Me' transitions into breakbeat completely; it's deafening bass-kicks, euphoric builds and jungle-percussion providing a throwback to a golden era for dance music. The familiar chords of the M1 ring out on 'Mind Games' - a classic trance love-cry brimming with emotion - before the 160bpm jungle riddims of 'Shebeen' provide a lairy and screwface-inducing climax.

An album had been finished by the spring of ’95 and all recorded onto DAT and placed in a box. K&D pressed up 10 copies and gave 4 away to some suitably eccentric individuals.
Then the room’s doors opened and in a tremendously big cloud of smoke time rushed in, K&D rushed out, and the years went rolling by. The days got filled with remixes, touring and life.

Then in early 2020 that chance moving of a box at the back of a room exposed the DATs and their time transporting properties. As K&D went through them they ended up comfortable and back in the room and that wonderful haze of 1995.

Tongue-in-cheek as usual, belleter Niklas Wandt melts up pianos, acid lines and bass heavy breaks as raw material for Die Glocke (The Bell). When the hunchback pours the lead of three decades of rave culture onto your lost souls, it’s too late for shelter. Fantastic Twins evaporates not just the bell but the whole bell tower into particles of peak time madness for the mental cases.

On the flip Bodyzeit heats up on an even more old schoolish tip with breaks that definitely win the bumper car dancefloor. Very sorry for the spilt drinks, thrown fags, popped pills, ripped shirts and funny faces trying to sing along these german vocoder phrases. Borusiade doing some serious bodywork, shifting gears down in her lowrider manner, modding this burner into a dreamish but deep wee-hour masterride.

Potatoheadz Records come back, out of nowhere, with JCow’s ‘in my elem3nt7’. Often spotted cycling about town, it’s no secret that JCow is diligently & quietly (and not so quietly) crafting big tunes. This release is the sound of that inevitable 2020’s shut-in inspiration. Written during those periods, they are finally seeing the light of day. With focused time in the studio, some serious imagined musical landscapes are the result. Tracks designed for dance-floor breakouts and closed-eye catharsis. We’ve heard these tracks come a long way from inception. Cerebral and kinetic, each track has a unique character, functional yet bound to stand out in any set. Tracks like ‘a complex range of human emojis’ pay-no-mind in referencing the past with a sly smirk and an updated twist. Are we hacking? While the title track ‘in my elem3nt7’ conjures a certain mystical atmos - the tracks bold narrative shift midway is one hell of a notable payoff. Swerving boldly into new territory, the beats fade and return from new angles, sounds cutting and slicing through the speaker like angelic machine gun fire. The drum programming is truly used like a weapon in this one, with those majestic horn samples like calls from the ether. Exaels ‘swampbuggy’ reworking of title track on the B2 provides the perfect alternate universe, working its way from a sparse ambience into an inspired IDM-leaning breakbeat epilogue.

Raito, known for his work in the tech house genre and recordings on Deadmau5' Mau5trap, showcases his love for the UK bass scene with his latest EP, "Black Tracksuit." This collection of tracks draws on influences across the hardcore continuum, delivering a unique and genre-defying sound.

"Black Tracksuit" is a hard-edged mix of grime, jungle and UK garage with a UK influence that sets the tone for the EP. The A-side also features "Foresight," a psychedelic jungle track that constantly evolves, keeping listeners on their toes.

The B-side opens with "Junk Dog," a roughneck hardcore tune that harkens back to the sound of 1992. Rounding out the EP is a remix of "Junk Dog" by London-based producer Basic Rhythm. This straight up drum and bass track strips down the original and transforms it into a bass-heavy drum and bass stepper straight out of 1999.

Picking up on the launch of Marie Montexier’s Paryìa label with a trippy EP by a.b.u.3.0.3., the second release comes from the Dublin based shooting star Small Crab. The Skin & Blister founding member delivers three percussive breaky tracks that highlight a wide range of her musical influences. Combining smooth textures with tribal rhythms the ’Flowing with Honey’ EP perfectly rounds off with a bass heavy remix by London based producer Talik, who recently gained attention through highly acclaimed releases on 3024 and Intercept.

Belfast-born, Rotterdam-based producer Kessler is back by popular demand. Endless EP - his second SNF release - sees him continue in the spirit of the previous one, deftly capturing moods and building worlds through breaks.

Some of these enchanting worlds are cushioned by warm tonal melodies and an instrumental quality ("Endless"). Others are harder to navigate, with skittish drum workouts which clatter around an already-complex soundscape ("Mare's Nest").

On "Aspect", things get emotional, not a far cry from the provocative nature of Overmono's music. Speaking of which, Belfast producer Optmst is drafted in to close proceedings, reimagining the title track and continuing in the same vein with emotive pads and pitched-up vocal licks.

Born October 1966. Break Dancer in 1984, under the moniker Mad Max, started a crew named the Back Street Warriors, Busking all over the UK at places such as Covent Garden/Leicester Square Performing on stage & in clubs. They once jammed with the Rock Steady Crew in Camden Palace in front of an audience.

Then in 1987 he became a DJ, playing all genres of music, he first played on RJR Radio, playing Electro, Hip Hop, Soul, R&B & Reggae. Moving forward he started playing Acid House & Four to the Floor Music styles, by the early 90s he played on Weekend Rush and then went onto Defection, Touchdown, Don & Passion FM, playing Acid & Hardcore Jungle.

In the early days MixMaster Max was one of the Innovators of Jungle music by mixing Hardcore, Reggae & Hip Hop together, helping others to produce, fuse & gain ideas in the music industry. He was by Far the most Original, Innovative, DJ anybody had ever heard.

In 1991 he played alongside John Saunderson at the Camden Palace on a Friday night, he also played at the famous Hacienda club in Manchester. He was the First DJ to create the Topsy Turvey, which is one turntable on top of the other, he came runner up in the DMC world championships in the early 90s.

He played at some of the Biggest Raves back in the day, Pirate club 93, Fantazia 92, Dungeons 91/92, Turnmills 92, to mention a few. He also played on Avenues FM & People's Choice, which were legal Radio Stations, not forgetting Kool fm & Centreforce.

He performed on stage with the We Papa Girl Rappers in 1990 at the Notting Hill Carnival. This Legendary Cult figure is a Master of the Nunchuckers & TurnTables! His innovative Mixes were ‘legendary’ he was a pioneer precursor to the Art form known as Jungle Music, not to mention his Scratching abilities, which was ‘extraordinary’!

For those that listened to pirate radio back in the day, he was the legendary cult figure that inspired us all, giving us the freshest musical styles that had never been heard before!

He can still be heard on OriginUK.Net Radio today... What an inspiration this unsung hero has been to us All!

Since 2014 Stones Taro has been delivering his own take on the UK sound, heavily influenced by rave, jungle, garage and breakbeat. Now the Kyoto, Japan based artist makes his Cheeky Music Group debut with four intricately laced cuts on August 20th, continuing to break the mould and recontextualize his own sonic palette. ‘Again’ opens proceedings with deep wobbling bass that finds its way from your ears and down to your toes, coupled with dub style chords and vibey vocal loops, to help keep the steppers moving to the early hours. ‘Come Over Me’ picks up where ‘Again’ left off with glossy lipped vocals and oscillating snare drums, resulting in a track perfect for warming up the dance floor. Glistening synths sparkle just above choppy breaks and spacious bass in ‘Yakusugi’ - as it’s ethereal sensibility adds a different dynamic altogether to Stones Taro’s ever evolving sonic armour. Every sound in closing track ‘Rare’ is carefully placed and nuanced; as one tone reflects off the next in auditory delight - suited for those late-night dwellers.

Brazilian-born, USA-based record label Concreta Sala arrives to the scene in 2021 with a celebration of Brazilian Bass and the culmination of 25 years of research and digging through their EP compilation series Proibidœ. This inaugural volume showcases an original and remastered 20-year-old techno track by the intentionally elusive multi-instrumentalist El Presidente Hi-Fi. Initially released in the year 2000, the aggressive but precise rhythms of “Drop Your Guns” are reworked by three emerging Brazilian artists: Sisto, Mau Maioli, and Hugo Frasa. With the original press limited to 150 copies and instrumental stems lost to the wind back in 2002, Concreta Sala is incredibly proud to bring this release to a new generation of dance floors and headphones via three unique remixes. The original track is transformed into a certified weapon, remastered and repressed in a limited run of only 300 vinyl copies with the highest audio quality. From a listener’s perspective, both sides of Proibidœ VOL. I are loaded with ammunition for any given moment.

Multidisciplinary artists Lex Rütten and Jana Kerima Stolzer alias A2iCE & BO3 are the faces behind Paryìa records’ fourth release – further manifesting Paryìa's role as a genre-bending entity while also expanding the artist’s respective portfolio. Aka big beats are the best, a notion the directly honest final track ‘Made (Drums)’ follows, bringing a twisted jack attack logic to a deranged assembly of samples, a manic orchestra of tumbling drums who have conspired to freak out, albeit with cute bubbles underneath to revel in the allure of sonic mania.

Following 2 heavy reissues of “Silver Mirror Of Her Eyes” and “Heavy Water” from original works on D*Fusion Records in 1994-1997, Howard Dodd aka Anoesis returns to physical in 2023 for a new full feature-length album via Australian based imprint Paper-Cuts. Selected works between 2010-2022 “Memory On Memory” offers a modern take from the underground UK artist, spanning refined breaks, playful tech-house and modular experiments stretched across this 9-track LP.

In this new chapter of Lab, the two minds behind the label collaborate on a record that represents the two souls of the label. The break-techno-ish dance-oriented Slak vision, and Datafive introspective sonic adventures. The ep has two tracks from each producer and one collaboration by them. On one side, we can see the evolution of the Slak sound where he evolves from a dubby and lightful identity from the first ep to a new darker and solid sound. Pressure and Under Control, two dark and groovy UK break-techno missiles. Dark atmosphere and powerful drums ready for the dancefloor. Flipping the record, we find two eclectic tracks by Datafive. Plenty of influences here: electronic, glitch, IDM, hip-hop, dubstep, to name a few. The first track of the side is Outsiders, a journey into the artist’s feelings. Mysterious pads, mid-tempo syncopated drums, warm basses, dreamy chopped vocals, and more. The Hive instead explores the territories of the classic UK-step heritage. Vibrant sub-bass, ethereal textures, and solid stepper beats. The last track is Patience, a collaboration between Datafive and Slak. Meditative, yet powerful cyber trip-hop. We have dark-dub pads and stabs with sharp broken beats which portray a desolating landscape of a lost future.

San Francisco based DJ and bass extraordinaire Farsight knows how to make an entrance, first bursting onto the scene with his adventurous and daring EP 'Wisdom' back in 2016. At the time Farsight's music sounded like it had been beamed from another planet and has played an important role in the crosspollination of genres we've seen in recent years. Farsight has gone on to release on Scuffed Recordings, Maloca and Noire State, remaining firmly fixed on the future of club music. Now his blend of trap, jersey club, reggaeton and dancehall makes its way across the Atlantic with six mind-sizzling cuts for Brakes 'N' Pieces vol. 23.

Opening track 'Triangulation' combines rolling drums with party-starting vocal samples and steady whistles, letting listeners know we're really off! 'Mr Right' then enters the fray with throbbing subs, ravey stabs and a vocal that sits halfway between fun and outright menacing. The A side comes to a close with 'Leaving Las Vegas' a dubstep infused cut of choppy breaks and wide-eyed melodies. A masterclass in raising tension, this track will shut down any club, please use wisely.

'Lesser Light' shows Farsight's love for bass exploration; it's looming shadow pressing amongst some of the darkest corners of electronic. A unique brand of grime infused techno. 'Water Margin' delves even further, adopting a more measured pace for those heads down moments. The record comes to a close with 'Fulminous Edge' and is a reflection of the artist's darkest material. The drums still have a familiar spring in their step but the track's melodic bassline is mesmerizing; resulting in a melancholy trance that deserves a second play.

This autumn Ludwig A.F. aveils his first full-length album project. It is a very personal collection of ten pieces inspired by a special location near his home in the Taunus region of Germany. He recorded the songs as soon as he returned to his studio, inspired by the atmosphere of the place. He has been collating the pieces over the course of almost a decade. “Air“ is an atmospheric and ambiguous collection of music that at times is rhythm and sound design driven but mainly focuses on the home listener with its picturesque melodies and ambiances.

Whether it's through broken drum phrases, acid melodies, dark garage atmospherics or ice clips borrowed from grime, 4AM EP skillfully builds moods without sacrificing an inch of danceability.

The Jaffa Kid's prolific music-making is well known at this point, with a wide-ranging palette that takes in the full range of electronic genres, from jungle to techno to ambient.

But here on his second EP for Gated - appropriately titled Second Frequencies - the boy named after a biscuit (or is it a cake?) goes deep. Really deep. Kicking off with the beatless but driving Phased For Days, the EP has a kind of relentless hypnotism to it, with Trinian's almost 7 minutes of spaced out electro.

Flip to the B and the acid comes to the fore, with War On Words and its addictive 303 line pulsing over the Kid's signature pads.
Tangential throws in some breaks under gritty acid, and Not The Way rounds out the EP with a truly poignant melodic beatdown.

Club Glow co-founder Denham Audio is no stranger to linking up with friends. Running the label alongside fellow breaksmiths Mani Festo, LMajor and Borai, the rave-focused producer has established the imprint as one of a leading name in acid hooks, lairy basslines and whiplash-inducing breakbeats, and here - on Cheeky Sneakers - he readies the release of five varied cuts of lowend pressure and sky-high euphoria alongside Swankout, Thugwidow and Coco Bryce. 'Good Time' does what it says. A cut of happy-hardcore inspired breaks beamed straight from the Midlands; there is just enough headsy energy to keep the chin-stokers entertained, whilst inspiring an emotional, smiling release for those whose infatuations lie closer to ravey keys and Bangface Weekenders. Swankouts second collaboration - 'Keep On' - is a growling slab of screw-face electro and breaks, highlighting both producers' knack for finding the sweet spot between varying forms of UK music - fast, hardcore and dutty, it's a surefire party starter. Thugwidow is introduced on 'Testing My Patience'; the producer has been making a name for himself with some excellent releases on Sneaker Social Club and Circadian Rhythms, and here he and Denham Audio combine on a chugging steamroller of malfunctioning, soulful riddims. It's a dreamy meet on 'Close 2 Me' - Coco Bryce recently collaborated with Amy Dabbs on an excellent jungle EP which received support from BBC Radio 1 and more, and here the Netherlands produce brings his native hardcore spirit to the surface on a pitched-vocal cut of jungle-techno. Seeing out the release is a remix from emerging producer Ravetrx, who has recently enjoyed sessions on Rinse FM and NTS alongside Roni and Hooversound Recordings co-label head Sherelle.

Continuing its journey between decades, this time Repeat Repeat Repeat pays homage to Jason Goodings' - half of the pioneering jungle / drum & bass duo Hidden Agenda - sought-after Basics EP which originally came out under his NOS alias in 2001 on the Swiss record label Straight Ahead. Genre-wise, the EP itself was compiled with a good sense of proportion, including elements of breakbeat and garage, chilled house sound, tight drum & bass rhythms and warm downtempo moments.

Benoit B aka Terra Utopia breaks out into another auspicious alias for Step Ball Chain, Blu:sh - metamorphosed; coming in hot and heavy, sexy and sophisticated. Bass down, *ss up! The ambitious 6 tracker “Lovebite” fuses forms of dance; reworking elements from niche corners of the Step stratosphere that can result in freaky combustion. Breathing life and lust into every phrase, we are fortunate to be offered an intimate glimpse into a complex world of sound, filled with bold and brash inspired statements, rhythmically rolling the dice with snap lock precision. If you’ve ever wanted to hear more acid in garage, the epic bubbling 303 breakdown of two-step opener ‘Tender’ answers your prayers, its ghostly lead out-emoting even Four Tet. ‘Loose Tooth’ then lands in clubbier territory, dubby rave synths again deployed with a canny melodic ear. On the flip, ‘Metamorphic’ is noir electro, UV bleeps and infrared bass cutting through its heavy, murky atmosphere. Working her trademark magic on the remix, Naive boss Violet bumps up the tempo, turning in a cut of booming, bottom-heavy machine-funk, a dub siren and half-time section nodding to the influence of UK rave culture.

Arpanet needs no introduction for those who know. Hydrostatic Equilibrium EP is a reissue of the 2 tracks released by 30D Records from the Detroit artist back in 2018 (cat# 30d-006), now presented together in a special limited edition single sided 12" vinyl. The EP includes the original tracks Supernova Remnant and Main Sequence Star, being the only two tracks produced by Arpanet since 2006. Presented with a new artwork, designed by Arpanet himself, and this time on 30D Records sub label ExoPlanets, Hydrostatic Equilibrium EP becomes an instant collectors must have, especially after the quick sell out that followed the 2018 release and the numerous reissue requests received since then.

Nikki Nair is fast becoming one of the most diverse and forward-thinking artists in electronic music, flying the flag for increasingly hybridized methods and doing it your own way. His sound is inimitable and cannot be defined; readily bottling a multitude of emotions in a relatively short space of time.

Nikki’s meteoric rise has come in the form of eclectic releases like his ‘More is Different’ EP on Dirtybird to the downright filthy and party-starting ‘Trying To’ on Bristol’s Scuffed Recordings - Influenced by anything from Detroit techno, to lush ambient soundscapes and Florida breaks. The Knoxville born, Atlanta based producer continues his journey through shape shifting universes on his debut for Lobster Theremin, with five different but equally impressive tracks.

‘ Shufflin’ kick starts the EP in Nikki’s signature, unpredictable style; as squelchy bass-lines growl at heavily swung drums and low pitched vocal loops, before ‘wwc’ - an off-kilter minimal stepper, walks the tight-rope between entropy and synchronized dance.

‘ ‘I Can’t Stop’ meanders from kinky bass & breaks, to deconstructed dubstep and trap; causing more facial expressions in six minutes than ever thought possible. Nair’s hybridized methods continue to shine through in ‘Yoland And His Tortoise’ - a trippy and colourful dream told through nuance in sound. The EP then closes off with the laid-back grooves of ‘Urquoise’ - a hypnotising ritual best practiced in nature.

Well who would have bloody thought it. 20 releases on Holding Hands. That is bananas to be typing that out. It’s been a hell of a ride and I am over the moon to be able to confidently sit here and say that I still absolutely love every single release that has been put out since the first back in 2017. What a bunch of absolute slammers!

Heavy, effective 1990s UK Hardcore/ UKG revival cuts from Soundbwoy Killah on his debut Sneaker Social Club 12"

It’s important to rewind and understand how we got here in the first place… Belgian electronic music giant Mathlovsky has continued his constant evolution, with new live performance with a live drummer. Celebrating and promoting this new partnership, the album Yassssin​ (​4 S’s if you want to make it easy on yourself)​ ​is being released on double vinyl by Ohm Resistance this Spring. With 3 video singles, we decided to make a special one-off, limited Fire Red 7” to go along with the first single. Since 2019, Mathlovsky has invited drummer Gregory Simons to perform at his live shows, to add another layer of punk & funk fueled acoustic drums. Not replacing the electronic heavy hitting beats but by looking at his drumset as another instrument, Mathlovsky’s music has entered another realm. As such, a new era has begun. Yassssin, the first album with Simons’ acoustic drums as an added weapon of dancefloor destruction, is the perfect representation of what Mathlovsky live is all about. After ten years of dwelling in the rave scene and band scene alike, Mathlovsky has fused all his influences and tastes into one cohesive album. Inviting his talented Belgian music friends to contribute a voice, an instrument and overall energy, this album is a ride to never forget. For both ravers and moshers, Mathlovsky has crossed boundaries between worlds and begins this decade with a massive bang.

Over the past year or so I have watched as the releases on Holding Hands got more and more intense. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. Intense and straight to the face was always the plan for the label. At the same time I do have slightly more varied taste and I had been getting sent a decent amount of incredible music that didn’t quite fit on the original outlet. My first love when it comes to electronic music is dark, eyes down, bass heavy and so it seemed like now was the perfect time to create a label with a slightly deeper angle to accommodate this sort of thing.

Gallegos is one of my all time favourite producers. Absolutely no question. He has a completely unique sound that to me sounds like it comes partly from his incredible sample digging as well as his one of a kind drum sampling. It’s hard to say for sure what it is but all I know is that I can hear one of this tracks from a mile out. There is an incredible balance of weird shit mixed with super catchy motifs and big time grooves. I wish every day was a Gallegos day!

Second installment of the Parisians Get a Room! on Insane Dances label. This time the duo deliver two original tracks on the A side and have given the task of two remixes to I:Cube on the B side.

An album had been finished by the spring of ’95 and all recorded onto DAT and placed in a box. K&D pressed up 10 copies and gave 4 away to some suitably eccentric individuals.
Then the room’s doors opened and in a tremendously big cloud of smoke time rushed in, K&D rushed out, and the years went rolling by. The days got filled with remixes, touring and life.

Then in early 2020 that chance moving of a box at the back of a room exposed the DATs and their time transporting properties. As K&D went through them they ended up comfortable and back in the room and that wonderful haze of 1995.

Fabio & Grooverider have been at the forefront of UK dance music for over 3 decades. This is the roots of their story told through music. The 2 London DJ's are part of the DNA of the global Jungle / D&B movement and they have remained relevant, cutting edge, authoritative and essential to this truly underground art-form since it's inception. RAGE could arguably be the ground zero of Jungle. The party was started at London's cavernous Heaven club by Fabio & Grooverider in 1988, at the height of Acid House fever that was making it's way up and down the motorways, slip-roads, fields and warehouses of the M25 and further beyond every weekend, troubling the nation, the police, your parents and the press as it went. RAGE was a different beast, it certainly channelled some of that Acid energy but pitted it against the new and exciting sounds emanating from Belgium, Amsterdam, Detroit, Sheffield, Essex and Hackney and in turn created a new style, a new sonic attitude and energy in the process. Rumbling bass-lines, narcotic synth rushes and roughly chopped and sped-up breakbeats all merged into a style that we now know as Jungle. Nothing like this had been heard before, this was a brand new style and it was coming out of London's West End and Fabio & Grooverider were the people firmly behind it.

Hellfish and Bryan Fury, the Axe Gabba Murda Mob, are two of the biggest innovators in hardcore techno. Both have been pushing the genre in all kinds of directions for over two decades providing the pulse for thousands of parties around the globe. So with this in mind, we are honoured to present ‘Baby Eaters’, an earth shaking joyride to the very edge of the human psyche and beyond.

The eponymous A-side strikes terror into the hearts of men, splitting brain cells like atoms with destructive chain reactions of radical distortion and soul-stripping screams. Pure demonic catharsis, sound frequencies don’t get more violent than this. The B side ‘Acid Abyss’ is an LSD stained hardcore techno anthem where eerily cold voices are strangled by crunchy bellowing kick drums and bleeding 303s. Despite still being cranked up, the precision of the fills in this track offsets the chaotic kicks of the A-side, coming off almost subtle in comparison.

This single is for connoisseurs coming lovingly housed with artwork by the wonderful Jim’ll’Paint it, depicting the deadly duo conducting some rather grizzly research in their underworld studio.

An absolute timeless classic from a golden era of greatness, Lazer Worshippers - Lazer Worshippers Theme is one of those gems that has transcended generations, with a demand and price tag for the original that sees it trade hands for £100+. Produced in 1993 by Damon Wild and Tim Taylor it was first released on NY’s pioneering EX or Experimental Records, yet this is the first vinyl reissue since its original release. This unique 12 Inch contains all three versions of the title track compiled from 2 separate EX releases - Ex-03 and Ex-19.

Ecstatic Editions is the new label by Eris Drew. Due to changes in the industry, the cost of production, and the wait times for manufacturing, the renowned vinyl-only deejay laments not having more of her favorite producers’ music on vinyl, so she decided to start a label for special vinyl editions, as well as archival releases. The first volume of Ecstatic Editions is an anthology of work previously unavailable on vinyl by the Xi’an-born and Toronto-based musician, Ciel. Her work was the impetus of the label because many of her amazing productions, collaborations and remixes have never been pressed to vinyl. As a producer, DJ, pianist and radio presenter, Ciel’s work is not only prolific and compelling, it involves an international network of individuals, labels, projects and artists; a musical meeting-place of positive intentions and creative interactions. This volume is needed not only because it makes these incredible original productions and remixes available to vinyl DJs, enthusiasts and collectors for the first time, but also because it tells a cohesive story, in a physical object, of an artist with a truly unique rhythmic, melodic and psychedelic style.

Included here are three tracks from The Trojan Horse EP, a track from Naive’s “No Justice No Peace” compilation and fund-raising effort, Ciel’s remix for the Stockholm-based band Off the Meds, a track by Psychedelic Budz (a collaboration between Ciel and fellow Canadian D. Tiffany), a track from the Montreal Bass Coast Music festival’s annual digital-only compilation titled 12 Days, a remix of Toronto's downtempo soul saviors, the electronic duo LAL, and Ciel’s remix for Japanese artist Cuushe, which originally came out digitally on Tokyo’s Flau.

The sixth UFOs outing is another intergalactic adventure in sonic form and this time at the buttons it's New Balaance, a Mexican artist at the heart of a new wave. Space Jungle though is an apt title for this EP, which kicks off with some stylish breaks and nimble basslines overlaid with lush cosmic arps. 'Space Jungle' (feat Parallax Modulators brings a more pensive mood thanks to the sustained chords and deeper grooves, but subtle acid and chattery perc bring it to life. 'Grantourismo' is a lively and dynamic cut with more swirling synth work while 'Redemption' closes down this quartet of excellent explorations with a mix of 90s prog, techno and breakbeats all imbued with plenty of colour.

Artesian Sounds welcomes Cicada Ensemble to the label with his debut EP 'Murmuration Clip', featuring a remix from London-based producer Otik.
The title track is light and nimble, swelling with shimmering arps, weighty subs and no kick drum in sight. 'Kepler' layers intricate sound design with head-spinning breaks and an aggressive bassline. 'Buchla & C7' is a five minute epic, patiently building to its climax for almost half of the runtime - a true exercise in tension and restraint. Gab002 sees Gimme A Break Records keep things local with a rowdy EP from Leeds-based DJ and producer Beerus. Over the last six months, Beerus has demonstrated his production power through two bodacious releases on Gunfinger Food’s new sub-label, Booty Frooty Records. Fusing UK styles including hardcore, acid and jungle with US staples such as electro, juke and footwork, Beerus has established a playful sound primed for the dancefloor.

Beerus’s “9000” EP opens with a hardcore weapon which combines rave stabs with Dragon Ball samples and an acid line threatening to spiral out of control at any given moment. “Play This Shit” sees the EP take a sensual turn as Beerus channels the sounds of Chicago with an enticing juke number. “Booty Acid” follows suit, offering up a particularly self-explanatory track title: luscious electro meets 303s. “Love4U” is Beerus’s love letter to the happy hardcore scene as a thumping 4x4 bassline collides with melancholic vocals and piano lunacy. Finally, Beerus rounds off Gab002 in style with the junglist mediation “DO U Want ME”.

Across the collection you’ll find lesser-celebrated gems from significant figures in the scene (Unique 3’s long-overlooked ‘Digicality’, rare tracks from 4 Hero side projects R-Solution and Tek9); surprise bass-heavy excursions from popular outfits of the period (A Man Called Adam, A Certain Ratio and The KLF’s ‘What Time Is Love’ as remixed by The Moody Boys); significant but frequently forgotten underground anthems (outings from Boneshakerz, Hypersonic, Ubik and Kcc); secret weapons (Three Sons, Heychild, Techno Excursion); and even a sub-heavy classic from Norwegian ambient legend Biosphere. It all adds up to a significant celebration of one of the most fertile periods in the development of dance music with bleeps, breaks and bass.

Dedicated 21st Century polymath Kay Logan continues to expand her soundworld in every direction at once with her Helena Celle alias. A maximalist internal landscape of broken Jungle patterns, distorted synths and heavily warped instrumentation bent out of cognisance, »If You Can’t Handle You At Your Worst, Then I Don’t Deserve Me At My Best« is Logan’s most danceable, most fun and most gloriously congealed record to date.

Conceived in part as a response to her 2016 debut release »If I Can’t Handle Me At My Best, You Don’t Deserve You At Your Worst,« 2023’s update employs similar principles (degrading technology, the joy of chance, an outsider’s gaze onto the dance floor, an embracing of the occult) to delirious effect. If »I Can’t Handle« was lo fi and fragile in its technoid recasting of dance music, here Logan’s confidence allows a frantic playfulness that retains the spontaneity of all her output. It’s the work of a creative spirit revelling in the possibilities of sound, rhythm, texture and pattern.

Helena Celle’s music opens up psychic space in front of the listener and invites them in. In this world, sounds and tropes once recognisable are rendered fractal, spectral and continually melting in and out of recognition. Simply put, Helena Celle might be detouring Drum & Bass, Techno and Breakbeat with a prankster’s grin but the result is pure ecstasy crushed into a part of the listener’s consciousness hitherto untroubled.

Since her 2016 debut, Logan has released music as Time Binding Ensemble, Otherworld, in groups Anxiety and Herbert Powell and myriad variations on the Helena Celle moniker. This album is a riposte to her debut and updates its principles. Joyful, degraded Jungle breaks, Cyberpunk synth meltdown, noise solos, true head music, like the furthest Aphex Twin being deep friend in a Glasgow backwater.

"Papa Nugs joins the Space Dust cohort with the 5 tracker “ It Came From The West” transcending various styles and shades of sound. With a more tripped out take on a traditional jacking pallette, the title track kicks off proceedings with a propulsive drumbeat and rumbling bassline providing the perfect bedrock for the acidic squelches above. “Brooklyn Duck” continues the US-indebted styles adding an earworm vocal to the mix.

On the flip a barrage of drums and glassy oscillations form “Be Anew” with the relentless programming carrying through “Knobbly Knees” taking us firmly into electro territory with robotic vocals and a mechanic drum pattern that shows no sign of waning . Closer “Groove Nxt” sees out the EP in energetic fashion with well tuned snares trading blows with crystalline synth work."

Fresh from DOTT’s “Puppy Luv EP” and Rudoh’s “Vinland In Space EP”, Jugaar Records is back and this time with a full-length, double-pack vinyl, and digital compilation bringing together friends from Asia and Europe. The record is testament to the healthy place the Asian electronic music landscape finds itself in and those intrepid producers who are willing to explore new scenes and sounds. It's energy-crew from the off - with UK beatmaker Joe Koshin’s “Astro Wax”, a techy electro work-out that conjures images of futuristic cityscapes and dense urban mazes. Up next, Pakistan-born and label co-boss Rudoh maintains the electro vibe with cut-up hip-hop vocals sprinkled on top of a pulsating bassline in his “kof”. His records are being picked up by global tastemakers from Emerald to Roza Terenzi to DJ Masda. Don’t sleep!

Moving to the B-side, German-born, London mainstay Voigtmann shuffles and deals a steppy drum pattern and intricate synth-work, with a bassline drenched in that particular brand of funk to get the party going even at the most ungodly hour. Observatory resident Nic Ford closes this disk with an ambient excursion that summons spiritual rave voices from the deep laid atop a lilting synth loop. It’s typical of his ambient performances which have gained much notoriety in Vietnam of late.

Opening the second record is Egyptian gem Hassan Abou Alam whose recent outings on Naïve and Banoffee Pies have gained him much and well-deserved attention. Here, his “Gloom” combines twinkling IDM modes with heavy sub bass experiments primed to stop the most idiosyncratic dancefloors in their tracks. Up on C2, the Version, 3024 and Phonica Records graduate Yak adds breaks to the equation. His “Disk Full” brings together a haunting gated synth and razor-sharp beat programming to devastating effect. Melbourne based, Salt Mines Records honcho Shedbug concludes this side with his hopeful “A Lil Piece” whose soaring synth line will hit all the right emotional chords at all the right times.

On the final side Bangkokian Chalo reminds us why he is one of the masters of this increasingly fully formed scene. His Depth Charge is a muggy dub-laden, electro jam capable of rattling the weightiest sound systems in some of the most twisted raves at the end of some of the darkest Sois. The record is completed by New Delhi linchpin and Boxout.fm resident Monophonik, whose techno/electro “Tumbi” journeys out of the night into a euphoric sunrise moment that will be setting the dancefloors alight come festival season.

After we have been rolling out three singles and two remixes, it’s time to present to you the full album by the Belgium duo Pelace, titled ‘Echoes’. The digital version drops October 7 and to make it even better, the album will appear on vinyl too at end the of 2022, which will be the first ever vinyl release on Infinite Depth. The album represents the energetic sound of Pelace (Jordy Cosemans & Janick Warnier), hailing from Hasselt. Besides being Pelace they are very good friends in life, which is playing big part in their tracks. They dug deep into their own experiences and emotions that have been influencing their lives and this resulted in the album. The careful composed collection of tracks forms a 10-track story of uncompromising breaks, deep and compelling melodies and beautiful repetitive vocals. The album starts off with ‘Trapped Forever’. An ambient intro to immediately show their characteristic raw and uplifting synthwork. When it stops it makes sure you want to carry on listening. After the intro, ‘Deep Sea Dreaming’ follows, through which they bring forward their strong breakbeats and firm basslines. Where ‘Deep Sea Dreaming’ is pretty low-key, the next one titled ‘Patterns’ is one of the more compelling tracks on the album. Long-stretched bass lines are forming a solid base, on top of which uplifting arps and pads are making this track very lively. The fourth track ‘Kali’ goes a bit deeper. The track was written and produced when there was the news that clubs were allowed to open in Belgium again. A hard 4×4 kick, raw percussion elements and a driven bass are the key elements. After this it goes through to ‘Forever Together’. This one is about always being Pelace together. It’s a break track with a suppressed, but also very special energy. ‘Break Ups’ represents the more calm and dreamy side of the album. The regular beat gets broken up by a breakbeat, after which it continues in its lo-fi focused four-the-floor pattern. Throughout the track harmonious pads are melting together with high pitched synths, giving you a hopeful and warm feeling. The main song ‘Echoes From The Past’ defines the signature sound of Pelace, a blend of all kinds of electronica. Broken beats, intertwining synths, an appealing repetitive vocal and a reese bass, combined to evoke intense moments on the dancefloor. The eighth track is called ‘Floating’ and refers to old-school no-nonsense electronica. A pulsing and stabby synth, a powerful jungle kick and the up-tempo rhythm are providing a powerful energy. ‘Pushing You Away’ brings us back to the duo’s characteristic drum parts and vocal use, but with a deeper lower part and a somewhat trancey and ravey higher part. Then the cooling-down begins in the form of the outro ‘I Won’t Hesitate’. A very hopeful end to this story told by Pelace.

UK-based producer Yak is one of the strongest talents in percussive, bass-heavy club music. His debut record Mido, which appeared on Version in 2017, remains an ultimate DJ weapon (Hard Wax) up until this day and is still tearing up clubs and festivals everywhere. After releases on Martyn's 3024 and the es-teemed R&S label, Yak delivers his third record (vinyl & digital) on Version, Balmora Blue/Swex. This is a proper double A-sider that will surely get your dance bubbling. Swex and Balmora Blue are future rave anthems coming with earth-shattering sub, warm, elevating synths - and the trademark Yak drums to resurrect a dead soundboy's nana. Both tracks range around 120 bpm, but will sound as crisp at high-er/slower pitch or rpm too, making them versatile tools in every DJ's chest. Another essential bit from Yak and Version. Played by Vladimir Ivkovic, Moxy, Madam X, Or:la & Breaka.

Taiwanese label JIN records enters autumn 2022, with a new promising release by South Korea’s Yetsuby. As always searching for gems in the pan-Asian domain, JIN is delighted to have Yetsuby for its latest/6th release. On this EP, one-half of the ambient duo Salamanda, Yetsuby showcases her expertise in mood setting soundscapes, taking listeners on a sound journey across a wide array of musical spectra. Opening on A1, Yetsuby reinterprets a traditional Korean folk story of a bear devouring garlic and green onions, transforming the animal into a human being. Aptly named ” Bear Becomes The Human,” she transforms the transformed, turning the bear into a buzzing modern drum & bass-fused energetic tune. It turns out garlic is a powerful source after all. B1’s “Jelly” showcases Yetsuby’s talent for stripped-back glitch music: With a minimal bass and drum pattern, the track gently muddles along and presents itself as well suited warm-up track for the earlier hours of any party. For the remix sides, Cleveland delivers a vinyl only remix of “Bear Becomes The Human” with a futuristic house tune filled with jungle like drum pattern and techy yet smooth atmosphere on A2. On B2, New Zealand’s Eden Burns takes an entirely different path on his reinterpretation of Jelly. Embarking from the original pattern, he turns the original into a slow brewing psychedelic trance cracker that seems most suited for the early morning after hours that need an energy boost.

Dusky’s music has always been built on the pleasure principle, but JOY – as the title makes absolutely clear – takes that to new levels of purity and intensity. Looking back to more innocent times and to rave music’s halcyon days, the duo of Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman have tapped into that special moment when raving was still a voyage into the unknown.

This project is a distillation of the spirit of people coming together in hard times, forgetting their troubles and celebrating life. All of the core elements here are familiar from the peak rave era and the birth of hardcore – the cascading pianos, the infectious bleep melodies, the Chicago and Detroit grooves, the rugged Belgian techno riffs, and the proto-jungle break beats – but retooled, rewired, and refreshed for this brave new world.

It’s both a natural development and noticeable evolution from the pair’s previous work. Natural, because these musical elements have always been apparent in Dusky’s sound, but a clear evolution in they way they are presented, with such an unreserved and joyous tone.

The result is a celebration - and expression - of the communal ecstasy of the dance floor experience. An expression of 18 months yearning to be back out there communing and celebrating. An expression of everything that dance music - and dance culture - is about at its very best.

JOY brings together all the finesse and subtlety that Dusky have honed while traversing the various corners of clubland over the past decade, all their understanding of fundamental dance floor dynamics, and channels it all to a single, unified purpose. At a time when we’ve all suffered, we’ve all struggled, and we’re all uncertain, we’ve never needed this sense of unity more. All the release we’ve so badly wanted is here: we all need JOY. credits
