The Northman songwriter and actor, and former Heilung singer Jonas Lorentzen releases the debut full-length album of his solo project Nebala: “Lustuz Laþu Wōþuz Alu” on through By Norse Music! After being involved with Heilung for two years, and more recently with the worldwide-acclaimed movie The Northman as songwriter and actor, Jonas Lorentzen decided to focus on his own musical expression, based on a reimagination of Nordic Folk and spiritually driven music. The result is Nebala, spearheaded by Jonas Lorentzen, but assisted and graced by powerful talents such as Sebastian Gainsbourough (Vessel, The Northman, Manchester Collective), Kjell Braaten (Wardruna, Origami Galaktika) as well as non-musician minds assisting in the conceptual development, Doctor Mathias Nordvig (Professor of Pre-Christian Religion at CU Boulder) and Philosopher Naina Gupta (University of Kingston). “Lustuz Laþu Wōþuz Alu” is Nebala’s first full-length studio album and invites the listeners to dive into Old Norse Mythology. Nebala in Proto-Germanic means “the void”; the void through which all life originates. Sexuality is the essence of all life form. Through this album Nebala initiates sexuality into a space of sacredness. Using traditional frame drums, lyre, tagelharpa, Tibetan singing bowls, and throat singing, Jonas Lorentzen has developed a unique Indo-Nordic sound for Nebala that toys with timescapes, soundscapes, and cultural boundaries to bring you back to the primordial experience of music itself. He comments on the album: “When you let yourself be taken by desire and lust, you will be consumed by what the ancient Germanic peoples called Laþu. The ancestor of our modern word “to let,” laþu suggests giving into natural desire and emotion. When Wōdan sought the deepest knowledge of the cosmos he had to brave the dangers of the deep caves in Hnitbjörg and let himself be taken by the desire of Gunlaþu, the forceful goddess of the underworld.”

Jo Quail is an internationally acclaimed composer and virtuoso cellist from London, UK. Equally at home on stage solo, with bands – or in collaboration with choir and orchestra – she combines an eloquent mastery of her instrument with innovative looping techniques, to realise her complex, evocative music for audiences worldwide. Inspired by the visual arts as much as by fellow composers, Jo cites Barbara Hepworth and Georgia O’Keefe as key influences, alongside the diverse music of Debussy, Pärt, Tool, and Cardiacs. As a result, she freely crosses the boundaries between genres, awakening listener emotions, and taking audiences into uncharted territory with each concert. Her exuberant, celebratory performance style has won her a fanbase in the contemporary classical world as well as among enthusiasts of post-rock, metal and electronica. Now at a stage where she is touring throughout Europe and internationally, Jo enters 2022 with composition and performance uniting in her most ambitious project yet: April will see her take on the prestigious Roadburn Festival’s “Commissioned Music” project performing her new work The Cartographer – an honour bestowed only on artists who have the vision to create something truly unique. Jo received the PRS ‘Women Make Music’ award to record this work in Holland with the full ensemble at Groenland Studios, and, following the premiere, will release this in 2022. An incredible landmark, but one from which there is so much more coming into view for the future.

Kalandra release “Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands Soundtrack (Extended)”: the extended and newly mixed soundtrack they composed for the game and its new world called Norse Lands! Out on April 8th on CD Digipack and Digital – June 24th on vinyl.
Composed as the original soundtrack for the game Kingdom Two Crowns and its new world called Norse Lands, “Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands Soundtrack (Extended)” is Kalandra’s second studio album and comes as a very unique and different project from their debut album “The Line” (2020, By Norse Music). Released to players on the16th of November 2021, Norse Lands takes place in an environment inspired by Norse Viking culture from year 1000 C.E. Players can unleash abilities drawn upon Norse Gods, control powerful forces, building Viking-inspired armaments, solving challenging puzzles etc.
To transform the original game soundtrack into this new album, the band has extended some tracks and given them a new mix, for the purpose of giving the listener (and non-players) a more holistic experience of the music. The band has collaborated with local Norwegian Folk musicians such as John Stenersen and Kenneth Lien, using old instruments like Hurdy-Gurdy, Nyckelharpa and Moraharpa.
Kalandra states: “We’ve long been interested in taking on a project like this, and we were intrigued by the possibility to expand our musical horizons. This has been an immensely fun project to be a part of, and we've embraced all the challenges that came with trying to fit our own sound into a game series with an already solid fanbase and existing mythos. We hope both new and old listeners will enjoy our contribution as much as we've enjoyed making it".

The astonishing new layout was done by Z. Bielak (Ghost, Mayhem, etc.), and includes four brand new illustrations specially made for this legendary album. Z. Bielak has stayed true to the ideals of the era (it was originally scheduled for release on vinyl in 1993); this 2LP Gatefold with illustrated pockets has been respectfully remastered for vinyl by Iver Sandøy; preserving every bit of original dynamics. Enslaved`s 1st full-length album was co-produced with the legendary Pytten in the world famous Grieghallen Studio in Bergen, Norway. It was originally released on Deathlike Silence Productions, an Oslo based independent record label founded in the late 1980s. The infamous label was run by Euronymous, the late mastermind and guitarist behind Black Metal pioneers Mayhem. This album has lyrics in Icelandic, and is a tribute to the Norse landscape, history and mythology. The compositions and production matches these themes with long horizontal songscapes, dense atmospheres and winds from the past. Enslaved was formed in 1991 by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson, and did their first demo “Yggdrasill” in the summer of 1992, while the legendary mini-album “Hordanes Land” was released the year after in 1993. “Vikingligr Veldi” came in the spring of 1994 and is Enslaved’s landmark debut album.

After the success of their previous collaboration "Skuggsjá"; Ivar Bjørnson (Enslaved) and Einar Selvik (Wardruna) are now following up with an imposing new piece entitled "Hugsjá". The word ‘Hugsjá’ means to see with, or within, the mind, and it reflects the idea that one’s mind has the potential to see further than the eyes can reach. By weaving together indigenous and contemporary thoughts, sounds and instruments, they are inviting you on a vivid journey, exploring the distant history and traditions along coastal Norway. The album is set for release through Norwegian label By Norse Music on April 20th 2018. Hugsjá was first commissioned by, and performed at, Bergen International Festival in 2017, as part a series of concerts named Nordvegen (“the northern road”); inspired by local history and traditions in each of the places visited. The Nordvegen concerts created an acoustic and intimate basis for the grandiose commissioned work, “Hugsjá”. The piece received its world premiere in Bergen’s premiere concert hall Grieghallen, and ultimately the material was recorded and became this full-length album. Roadburn 2018 will be both the release party and international live debut of “Hugsjá”, the album.
