Originally released in 2014, Luciano's ‘The Great Amael' is an enchanting and endearing trip; a lo-fi bubbling groove and dusted Hammond organs that hustle along whilst live percussion cuts through the oceanic atmospherics. Two years on, and Cadenza Music call upon a brace of remixers to provide fresh and unique interpretations of this hidden gem in Luciano's catalogue. Having recently released his first album in over 10 years, Matthew Dear AKA Audion boldly steps up to the mantle and stamps his intelligent techno sound all over ‘Amael' in the first of our remixes. Cutting a sprightly pace from the off, Audion melts stuttering sine waves and bulging tones over concrete beats, tweaking in the original organ riff and fathoms deep pads whilst adding additional vocal refrains as he playfully teases the arrangement before dropping a superb riff in his ‘Backward Melody' Remix, which takes a most psychedelic and unexpected twist! Two other musical heavyweights collaborate on the second of the remixes; Phil Moffa and Seth Troxler are no studio strangers, having released a joint project on the British Hypercolour label last year, and remixed for Tiga a few months back. Their LSOS LOVE/GOD Remix builds from ambient beginnings, save for a rhythm carved out of spongy electronics, a sturdy beat kicking in and setting the controls destination unknown, as the duo steer through breathy vocal cuts and propelling bass, stripping the remix back before leaping back into hyperspace with some adventurous and dubbed out vibes, before coming back down for landing with those unmistakable pads from Luciano's original.

Electronic music has always had a special affiliation with space, and the sounds of the cosmos. An inherent love of all things sci-fi, galactic and otherworldy has always been a common thread, especially with techno producers, and so it’s always a pleasure to come into greater contact with the science of these sounds when creating new music. Project ALMA is a new collaboration between Luciano’s Cadenza Records label and the ALMA Sounds initiative that bridges two sets of individual passions; that of Luciano’s love for music, and ALMA astronomer Antonio Hales’ love of the universe. Their 20 years + relationship has finally had the opportunity to cross paths, and Luciano, alongside fellow producers Felipe Venegas and Diego Errázuriz, have produced this special release using sounds collected from the ALMA resource library. Each producer worked with various source sounds, incorporating these planetary samples into their compositions; Luciano takes us on a trip to Orion in his own inimitable style, whilst Felipe Venegas goes deeper with a truly spatial piece. Diego Errázuriz opts for a beatless excursion that marrys soft and atmospheric piano to the planetary tones. The ALMA observatory is an astronomical interferometer of radio telescopes in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. The collection of 66 telescopes provides an insight into star birth, and detailed imaging of local star and planet formations, by observing millimeter and submilimeter wavelengths. ALMA Sounds is an initiative that seeks to interpret and decode the frequencies of the Universe, transforming them into sounds that can then be used by artists around the world to compose, share and create a community united around a search that has captivated humans for thousands of years.

You can guarantee that Luciano always comes through with a signature tune once a year, and of late has leisurely road tested singles like ‘Rise Of Angel and ‘Cachai at clubs, festivals and at his Ibiza residencies for full seasons, before releasing the fruits of his labor. And so 2015 throws up “7directions” featuring JAW on the vocal, a mesmerizing and low-slung track thats already getting pole position in Lucianos sets, ending his momentous off-Sonar show at El Poble Espanyol with it, as well as becoming a staple at his weekly Vagabundos residency at Space in Ibiza this season. New York house royalty, Dennis Ferrer, sprinkles the track with his own inimitable style, a sound that has crafted hit records and undergound bombs since the 90s, for labels like Nite Grooves, Defected, Ibadan and his own Objektivity label. And to complete this huge package, Matthew Herbert joins the party with a head scrambling “One Direction Dub” mix. The UK sound designer has mesmerized and innovated over the last two decades with some stunning music on his own Accidental label as well as remixes for the likes of Moloko, Jamie XX, Björk and a host of others. On the Original Mix, brooding pads and spikey synths linger over a spacious drum pattern, live drum fills and claps bouncing off the bass pulses, as wandering keys usher in the unmistakable tones of JAW AKA Jonathan Illel, the musician and vocalist extraordinaire who plys his trade with the French electronic group DOP and as a guest on recordings from artists like Mirko Loko and Guillaume & The Coutu Dumounts amongst many others.

Cadenza Records displays a deft touch in showcasing new talent, just as much as it leans on its core of established producers. The ‘Split' EP shines a bright light on the musical endeavors of Enrico Gasperini AKA gAs, and fellow Italian, Lino Pugliese. One side of vinyl each, and gAs opens up Side A with ‘Rack Attack', its woody hits and scattering hi-hats holding a solid groove whilst gentle keys entwine a melodic touch with a stuttering synth riff that's designed to circulate around the brain. Splashes of cymbals and white noise provide the all important drama as the track rises to a crescendo. Enrico's second contribution, ‘Agogo', keeps up the ante with another slice of exquisite house grooves. The inner-city street ambience opening gives way to an undeniably funky rhythm track, incessant spongy stabs and frenzied percussion that makes this one a sure fire winner. Over on Side B, Lino Pugliese gets to flex his sonic palette after recent releases on Cadenza Lab and Memento. ‘Banging On Your Door' takes its time to unfurl; a percussive swing not too dissimilar to the Stones' ‘Sympathy For The Devil' sets the tone magnificently, as low frequency synth sweeps and distant vocal effects build, the kick drum jolting the track into life with bursts of furry snares and handclaps. More ambient soaked business on ‘Aniwama' as Lino forges melodious piano and clanging ride cymbals with low end sonics as the track deconstructs as quickly as it builds, tearing up the arrangement rule books to create a unique cut that can perform as a mood-setting piece just as well as a peak time genre-shifter.

Across two pieces of vinyl, and five tracks, Eduardo flexes his unique sound design of minimal and soulful grooves. Heavily indebted to the classic sounds of the Detroit techno visionaries, Eduardo has built up a solid reputation through his Analog Solutions label. A staunch supporter of all things analogue, Eduardo manages to tease out some highly emotive and melancholic music from the machines.

Aiming to go somewhat deeper and darker than his debut album, on "Some Kind Of Sign" Ernesto endevours to go beyond the obvious and easily cliched elements of an electronic LP, capturing the world within the spaces, using otherworldly modulars and field recordings to take the listener to the outer reaches of the album's very heart and soul. "Some Kind Of Sign" is an album full of elasticated beats and liquid electronics, every track built around highly inventive drum programming and micro-samples. Album opener, "Still Waiting", sets the tone with bustling, yet understated, percussion, the soaring strings unfurling at the end of each phrase. It's a long player filled with colour; "Cristal Clear' feels like a Middle Eastern travelogue, the track awash with an almost street scene like ambience, the purposeful percussion really transporting the listener to another space & time. "Astral" chugs along at almost a skanking pace, the shakers and drum fills keeping it a dancefloor piece whilst the modular synths bend and worm around the kicks. On tracks like "Underwater Lies" the synths rain down onto a dubbed out & sultry female vocal, whilst the propelling electro beat and huge sub-bass carve out a most enjoyable aural (subaquatic) ride. Ferreyra really shows what he is capable of in the deep melancholy of "The Friend I've Lost", the saddest of pianos riffs grips your heart and gives it a good tight crush, douses you in reverb and pins you up against epic, taut strings…releasing you after its two short minutes to get back to the dance on "Hide No More". The album closes on "Beluga Dance", a riotous and infectious space ride, and a fitting end to an album that most certainly finds Ferreyra stepping up another level.
