V.A. - Katanga! / Ahbe Casabe
Katanga! / Ahbe Casabe
LP | 2016 | EU | Original (Captain High)
19,99 €*
Release:2016 / EU – Original
Genre:Organic Grooves, Rock / Indie
This LP combines the first two volumes of the 'Exotic Blues & Rhythm' compilation series named 'Katanga!' and 'Ahbe Casabe'. This album is like a colourful garden of delights, consisting of r'n'b and rock'n'roll based songs from the 1940s to the early 1960s that all have this slightly exotic, dark and mystical feeling, due to the melody structures and instrumentation. Most of these tunes sound astonishingly fresh and timeless.
Martin Denny - Exotica
Martin Denny
LP | 1956 | EU | Reissue (Captain High)
19,99 €*
Release:1956 / EU – Reissue
Genre:Organic Grooves, Rock / Indie
This album by prolific legend Martin Denny gave an entire genre its name! Originally released in 1956, the importance of 'Exotica' is more than just historical, f.i. since the songs are all outstanding. Based on jazz and folk, this is an early example of mind altering music. The rhythmical base is rooted in Latin music, from mambo via samba to bossa nova, and you find all the Latin American forms of dance music combined with bebop elements, as well as Asian percussion and harmonies. There are colourful tunes that make you think of Japanese folk, but you will also recognize melodies that would be suitable for American western movie soundtracks. The easy listening sound of the '50s comes as the last ingredient and is the icing on the cake.
Dick Hyman & Mary Mayo - Moon Gas

Moon Gas
LP | 1963 | US (Captain High)
20,99 €*
Release:1963 / US
Genre:Organic Grooves
There is a distinct possibility that this is the greatest record ever recorded prior to 1968. Space age bachelor pad music meets concrete music. 1963 was the recording date! Unbelievable. Strange synths, oscillators and custom made electric guitars with help of the lowrey organ. No words can really describe this record. Dick Hyman was prolific and was known to be able to play any style of music on any given keyboard instrument. He had a million selling record playing a harpsichord (if you can do that you're pretty great!). Mary Mayo did some back up vocals and a few solo records, but nothing quite as famous as this one here. This album has been sampled several times and never been credited anywhere, coveted by J Dilla, DJ Shadow, A Tribe called Quest etc. It comes in a thick cardboard sleeve just like the original sleeve from 1963, on black 180 gram vinyl. Only 300 pressed!
